I saw the video Tim shot earlier this week in the Ninth, and it amazes me the amount of devastation that still exists down there. I know this country has the means to do more than it currently is doing, seeing as how we’re throwing $2 billion/week on that bonfire we started in Iraq.

How many more election cycles will it take before we get enough people in office who will actually DO something about this?

It is not just the ninth ward. South Plaquemines Parish is totally devestated, as is St. Bernard Parish. South Cameron Parish has also been wiped out.

Blanco did all she could, and many of us understand the administration dragged its feet to humiliate her. Lakeview is basically empty, and blue tarpulines still serves as roofs along the I-10 corridor. I cry every time I drive into New Orleans; it is just not right. It has been over a year, and very little has happened. The lower nine is just the beginning. Perhaps you should come and see for yourself.

If I ever get to visit my friend who lives near Hammond, I’ll get a chance to see for myself.

petedownunder – where do you go? I’m headed to Seattle. I’ll be testifying about something that happened on Oct. 3, 1979.

I go to San Francisco, I have a home in Marin County, my mum lives in Sacramento so I’ll see her as well.

I think the US has gone to bed dreaming of sugar plums or turkeys or something.

I’m a lawyer myself (both US and OZ ) so good luck with your testimony. Be sure to read that deposition twice before you testify.

There is a bonus, however. I never thought I would see my mother again, and I will stop in Ca and see her once more (if she lives another two weeks that is). She won’t know it is me, but she will know that I am someone that she loves and that, my friends, is Christmas and Thanksgiving and more.

NZ Expat, I’m back to the States next week too, but more used to re-entry as I do it every six weeks. The Christmas hype is hard to take. Received an X-Mas card last year of Santa in swimmers on surf board at Sufer’s Paradise, that’s the way to go.
