Mrs. K8 @ 111

I know I’m getting here late in the day,…
“Sister — If God can’t resurrect people when their bodies become ashes, does that mean that anybody in the world who dies in a horrible fire can’t get to heaven?”

The silence hung in the air for a long moment. Then she said, simply “Sit down.”

Then we were told to open our geography books and turn to page something-or-other.

I sat down. Opened my geography book That was the day I knew for certain that there were at least SOME holes in the story they were telling us.

I knew that God would never, ever be that cruel.

That is a hell of a story, Mrs. K8! I’m proud of the little girl you were. I always wondered about the ones vaporized in Hiroshima & Nagasaki.

I know I’m getting here late in the day, but after reading all the great stories about inconvenient questions asked during religious education, I had to add mine here.

When I was in grade school (Catholic) my teacher (a nun) was explaining why the Catholic church forbade cremation (now that’s no longer the case).

She said it was because once the body was totally destroyed by fire, God would no longer be able to raise the person — during the universal “resurrection of the body” before the Day of Judgement at the end of time.

This made my little hand fly up:

Floozy patch, eh? That’s kind of like the language I hadn’t heard in a while, until Laura Schelssinger came on the air, admonishing her listeners not to “shackup” . . .
O/T. Looks like the wingnuts are all over Scarlet Johanssen for speaking out against the American theocraacy. Amazing how an outspoken “female” can bring out the woman-hater in some of these nut-wingers: Ace of Spades.

Goldberg actually found a bride?

Now, again I should make with the full disclosure. My bride, Jessica the Fair, is a consultant for Newt. And I suppose at some point I’ll be able to ask him about all this personally. Regardless, as for my own biases and preferences for ‘08, I’m still on the fence and I won’t let the incandescent brilliance of Newt’s intellect — displayed so powerfully in his hiring decisions — influence me in any way.

A new Democracy Corps poll finds that, in conservative-held congressional districts nationwide, “liberals” and “progressives” are viewed more favorably than Rush Limbaugh. On a scale of warm (100) to cold (0), here was the breakdown: progressives 45.0; liberals 40.1; Rush Limbaugh 33.0.

(Via Think Progress) My bold.

What I couldn’t get my young head around was how a Christian could ever kill someone. Either they were killing a fellow believer (a “brother or sister” in Christ) OR they were killing an unbeliever and sending them to hell and weren’t we supposed to be converting them and sending them on up to heaven on that particular gravy train. It seemed terribly illogical and inconsistent to the young me.

“How about we get our heads out of someone else’s coochie and back into the business of actually governing — at least in the public square?”

Wow. Haven’t tried that one–well, since birth I guess. Though we might just have found the explaination for Bolton’s toupee.

I’m starting to lose faith in America if wingnuts keep writing crap like this. It’s unbelievable.

I guess they think the rest of us are as dumb as they are.
