Who’s cooking for T’giving? Me, I ordered most of what I need from a local BBQ joint, and I’ll get it on Wednesday p.m. Don’t look at me that way. Y’all haven’t had Rudy’s smoked turkey. YUM. Worth every penny. And their stuffing tastes just like my grandmother’s. All I have to do is make the green bean casserole, and get the cranberry goo. Oh, and the cheapie rolls. I don’t understand my husband–he insists on having that cranberry goo and the cheapie rolls, every T’giving. I didn’t use it one year, and he pouted for days.

Yet this was a man who was divorced twice — the first time when his wife was hospitalized for cancer treatment, the second time after an affair was revealed.

Gingrich made his bones in the party by relentlessly attacking Democratic corruption, yet he was hounded from office because of a series of serious ethics questions. He posed as a reformer of the House, yet championed a series of deforms that made the legislative process more closed, more conducive to hiding special interest favors and less a forum for genuine debate.

And he did it all with epic sanctimony.

The Repubs are going to dust off the Democrat=Immoral Jackal schtick ASAP. It’s enevitable. What else have they got? They’re not very creative and they typically fall back on things that have worked in the past. Dems better be prepared to respond when they crank up the politics of personal destruction theme. It always struck me how seemingly timid Democrats were in the 1990’s in response to scandals. I never sensed the outrage and we were always on the defensive.

I’m betting that one of the many investigations that has been conducted already by folks like Conyers, Waxman and Levin yielded fruit that didn’t get the right amount of attention the first time around under a Repug-majority that could hold the media down under its thumb.
