Hugh #100 — you know what? after hearing the latest scuttlebutt from perris(me2me) about Rover, I think what I saw today was a preemptive attack on the truth. The party line right now is not that they didn’t lie, or that they had to go to war on the truth they had, but that the lies-I mean, facts–were only a little bit of the reason.

Bet you they are setting up Cheney and Rover both as firewalls to Shrub.

EvilDrPuma — hey, I reported what I heard. Usually modifying parsing of thought on the part of the talking head so as not to sound “unbalanced”…or factual.

Hugh @
92

I enjoyed this from Digby:

This could be the most fertile time for investigative reporting since Watergate — Republicans are talking out of school for the first time in six long years. And the Democrats have the investigative tools to get to information that’s been hidden. It should be great moment for DC journalism if DC journalism actually existed. Instead we are already back in the truthiness and fake news business

As Christy and Digby were saying in the last post, the media that we have now is the same media that has rolled over to have its tummy rubbed by the Bush Daily Disaster Squad every day for the last 6 years. So we can expect them to continue to suck up to Republicans, belittle Democrats, and investigate nothing.

In my brief moments of optimism I think okay they just have some bad habits that will have to be broken due to the demands of popularity/ratings of the D party. Then I realize that many in MSM (television) may no longer have investigative skills. They also have lost any reliance on real news for programming so it will take someone who is ready to experiment with money and effort, creating a real news format from scratch in most situations. /end optimism

In regards to the GOP’s election of House leadership:

“In some ways, it’s “meet the new bosses, same as the old bosses”.”

…”some” ways?…

Any specification as to what ways it isn’t?

rat

Well it’s going to be a very bad two years in my opinion. We haven’t seen the bottom in the housing bubble fiasco–the deficit is going to grow- and whatever happens if Iraq is going to piss most everyone off- so an argument can be made that as far as long term political prosperity is concerned- the dems would have been better off letting the goopers take the credit for the next two years. (of course an argument can be made the other direction as well).
