Many others have commented on this, but I was particularly impressed with Wesley Clark’s efforts in this election cycle. He has earned some serious points with me and hopefully others.

Ken @ 82

gee, are you hostile towards Dean in general? or just because the 50-state strategy that he and many others advocated is being proven to be successful, unlike the DLC/Emanuel ‘contest 20-ish to win 15 for a bare majority’ plan?

I can tell you here in New Mexico, the most mundane things like a regularly updated state Dem web page and having phone lists that were mostly current was a great improvement over what I saw here 2 years ago, let alone 14 years ago. In ‘92, we didn’t even have phone lists in Santa Fe county. I brought my own chair, paper and land-line phone and wire to jack into the office phones, then me and few others scavenged phone books from home to use in cross-checking old poll lists.

The DNC hired 4 people to work on the state party operations, three of them from New Mexico. There’s still a lot of work to be done, lots of county level reform and revitalization to achieve. Bill Richardson is casting a huge shadow over the entire state, Jeff Bingaman is a back bencher, and as of this morning there was still no final count in the Madrid-WIlson race in NM-1. Every election cycle can be an opportunity now.

It’ll be a long haul, but I have seen with my own two eyes what a difference the 50-state devolvement of power and distribution of money has meant in states that had a state party frozen in amber, dying from a lack of funds and staff.

So I’m gonna share some love with Dean and the folks at FDL and throughout the netroots, the unions and the local and state parties who have done the work to get us this far. I congratulate those who have participated, contributed, and advocated for the progressive wing of the Democratic party. My mother and the matriarchs taught me a few manners, and thanking people for helping is one of those basics that I try to adhere to, even when I talk/write like a salty sailor.

Thanks Folks! I’m proud of all of us, and appreciate all that each and every one of you has done to start taking our country back from the robber barons and the Constitution-rapers. I love this country, and hope we can continue our success in the years to come to restore what’s the best in America, and make right the wrongs we have caused so many here and around the world.

RAH! RAH! DEAN! NED! FDL! RAH RAH! RAH!

I’m going to particularly spotlight this to the Hartford Courant. They said:

Moments later, the partisan crowd erupted. Courtney received a bear hug from Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., the architect of the party’s House victory. “It was really more of a cross-body block,” Courtney said. “He almost knocked me over.” The three other Democrats in the next Connecticut delegation met him with hugs and handshakes.

Emphasis mine. Grrrr.

Hartford Courant = Chicago Tribune. Owned by Tribune Media Syndicate. No difference from the article the Trib ran a couple days ago, tongue-bathing Rahmbo.
But I do want to quote americablog on the Rahm issue. Something aravosis said gave me a perspective that allows me to tolerate the nine-fingered ballet dancer more than I did:
“But today we’re talking about Rahm. The guy is an asshole, to be sure. But he’s our asshole. And it’s about time we had one.”

No matter what anyone tells us…..we all vote for our own personal reasons. Me, I grew up in the 60’s….I remember everything! Our future lies in lessons learned……not in leaders that refuse to learn!

Now I just wanted to steer you to a good book review about an oral history of 29 of our soldiers in Iraq..its gruesome..it just hurts to read. BTW over 1M soldiers have rotated in and out of Iraq….who knew? We are asleep no longer……..we are now pissed!

bg—Dean is great- just what we need.

I agree with you fully about Howard Dean and his efforts to empower Dems in ALL 50 states!

And, if you’d like to say “Thank you, Howard” or “Happy Birthday, Howard” (his birthday’s in a few days), go to DNC.com, and donate some amount using “29″ and “6″, which, of course, are the seats we regained in Congress.

You don’t even have to leave a message; the amounts coming into the DNC will speak for themselves.

Please, if you have any money left from the cycle just passed, please thank Dr Dean!

OOPS, it should be “dnc.org”. Please go and say “thanks” to Howard!

Thank you so much for this post! I am so sick to death of the msm pounding the DC conventional wisdom is my head over and over and over. The centrists won blah blah blah…rahm blah blah blah… They are so scared to death that the progressive hordes are going to overrun them and take their little empires away from them that they have to do whatever they can to twist and spin every bit of information the american people get. The Democratic status quo is just as bad as the rest. I am starting to loathe the entire DC scene (pols, media, etc) more than the conservatives ever did. They make lobbyists look good, at least they declare whose payroll they are on.

As far as the scope of Cheney’s duties, the Constitution only mentions his role as presiding officer of the senate. He has taken on the rest of his duties by delegation from the president. I would be interested in seeing the paperwork that specifies those delegations, all of them. Any thing not authorized in writing by the President would need very strenuous argument to support a claim that is was within the scope of his duties.

I’m sure that any competent bureaucrat could fashion a delegation document favorable to Cheney, so they may be willing to produce one despite their general unwillingness in matters of cooperation.

Thanks. Probably so. That situation is absolutely intolerable. Appreciate your alert that it’s being tackled at last.

Sorry to dither in public. I’ve been out of touch with details, sporadically, trying to get on with life after the election. Oh heck, admittedly, I’ve been out-of-touch with the rest of life since somewhat over 6 years ago(!) I’ll be decompressing for some time to come, along with a lotta other folk, I spect. ;->

Way back at #11, Christy, you commissurated with some AZ voters having to wait so long to get a decent congressperson.

Related: What can be done about FL 13??

THOSE poor people! Will they suffer forever for spawning the citrus canker queen of voting theft and skullduggery?

Do you know of anyone with the power to tackle their problems, so they can eventually vote with some confidence in the system? Seems to me they’ve been disenfranchised for 6yrs & still counting. no?

Hasn’t the dem party sent a team of lawyers?
