Fox has a show coming out next year that’s a conservative version of The Daily Show called This Just In. Limbaugh has talked about it and it’s being produced Joe Surnow, the guy who created 24.

It’s been so long, but I think you must be a closeted German philosopher. You’ve described the inevitable downward spiral of authoritarianism in terms of Nietschze’s nihilism. And the conceptualization that you long for seems reminiscent of Kant’s ideas of perception; that we are a “tabula rasa” ready to be active participants in our own descriptions of society rather than encumbered by misrepresented verbiage.

I have also argued (usually over a glass of scotch or two) that it is silly to try and represent the human experience as a single linear aspect of right/left, liberal/conservative. And, I think that you are exactly right in pointing out that Aristotle’s “golden mean” of those poorly framed constructs leads to heavy leaden results. Even to expand a mental image of the human condition and say that the ‘mean’ is a central hub, like spokes in a bicycle tire, and each paired spoke is a description of some element of the human psyche, isn’t that still really two dimensional and noticeably finite?

Expand this poor physical model to a third dimension and make it a koosh ball. Doesn’t it still lack nuance and romance and magic in it’s limited capacity.

If we can believe string theorists, there are mathematical proofs for 10 physical dimensions of our reality; and, Ed Witten provides the truly golden key to show a combining, intertwining eleventh in what we think of as our ‘physical’ reality. Now, I can’t think in those terms, but I would like to imagine that the magic of the human condition, as endowed by the creator, is even beyond those physical barriers.

Call me a romantic (or a raving fool, both apply), but in terms of compressing the chaos of all aspects of human thought and emotion and nuance and love into a single linear concept of “left” and “right” well, I think that’s just freakin’ hilarious!

I am mysteriously drawn to B.C. in the Sunday paper — I guess I try to discern the Fundie dog-whistle message — but I just don’t get it. Its humorlessness is quite impenetrable –much beyond Nancy, and about on par with Henry (but utterly lacking the great charm of those great strips of days gone by).

Oddly, I remember B.C. being funny in its early days. It (or its author) just got steadily crankier and weirder as time went on.

Coming from you, Teddy, that’s a real compliment.

And it makes me feel less useless than I would otherwise feel, being cut off as I am from lots of the mix-it-up of daily social interaction and general hub-bub, which I still miss a lot.

Now I’m going to wrestle on my wetsuit so I can have a late night p.t. session in the pool — but while working out there it will make me smile inside to think that ideas shared through this mysterious medium can constitute a real connection with others (tho’ paradoxically just “virtual”!) in this human condition we all struggle with.
