Am I missing something? I don’t see anything. Wiping glasses
It’s probably a YouTube that hasn’t settled yet.
That was quick!
someone’s already wearing the new drapes
It is unfortunate that the actor who plays Milton also was part of the cast of “Path to 9/11″.
this is great stuff!
I LOVE the part of

Stephen Root. He was the eccentric station owner in “NewsRadio”. He asked George Clooney to “sing into the can” in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
I am positive he was hoodwinked into the “Path to 9/11″
Oklahoma kiddo @ 9
In order to win more seats and the presidency in 2008, all we have to do is ensure that the truth comes out about what the Republicans have been up to over the past 6 years. Let the inquiries commence.
Kentucky Woman @ 10
I hope you’re right. I really want to like him.

Can we also retire Cheney and Bush? ‘Cause they’re also very tiresome.

I must be tired because I read tiresome as threesome. I need to go get these damn eyes checked.
here’s what I heard John King say: he’s had that gerbil feel, where one of his good friends put it, for well in excess of six years now and he’s tired…
Love this story. Go Rangel! The Dems will outRove Rove and win a long-term majority IF they play tough like Charle. They don’t need to be assholes nor overly partisan, just straight-forward gunslingers.
I haven’t seen any analysis that changes my mind about this: put forward good popular middle class and security-based legislation and make Bush sign it or veto it.
Meanwhile let Waxman, Conyers, Rangel, etc. go to work on the corruption that is/was the GOP. Shine a bright light in every nook and cranny. “Just the facts, mam.” Play hardball politically, but do so with the liberally-biased reality of truth, competence and integrity.
RIP Ed Bradley!
The next 24 mos. are going to be majorly exciting. I have much to do.
Jane, you are my inspiration. Christy and my friends at the Lake, too.
(so are my Mom and Dad and sibs!)
smart and impassioned folks, all.
Here’s an amusing quote from the CNN article regarding Mehlman’s likely departure.
“Two sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Mehlman has made clear to close associates for some time he was likely to leave after the 2006 elections — and that there is no dissatisfaction with his performance in the midterm cycle.”
Has it sunk in yet? Gawd, my fingers are still bleeding.
yeah, baby!
I am just wondering. Bush joked yesterday about Rove not working as hard as he had on the campaign.
Can someone explain to me if Rove was working on the campaign on the taxpayers dime or not?
Mehlmen leaving?
Republicans cleaining out their closets?
Weren’t they getting ready to out top gay repug staffers before the election? Perhaps they’ve found their scapegoat AND a way to bring the evangelicals home to the GOP.
McCaskill just said she would support the Bolton nomination on Tweety. Sigh.
Coming soon:

Return of the Golden Fleece Award
Agh. Claire McCaskill on Hardball; first question from Tweety is bad.
Should Bolton’s nomination be approved?
She says she hasn’t checked his record, but yes, he should.

I’m as happy as a clam.
kristinejoy — I should have just left the viewing of that mess to you.

Bionic @ 25
Maybe we can have a congressional investigation about that, eh?
Bolton. Perhaps Mr. Chafee’s final act in the Senate would be a lovely little “hold.”
Note to Rangell:
You will have to turn the coffin on its side to fit it through the office door. Febreeze is your friend.
McCaskill hasn’t gotten the word yet:
Bolton’s nomination was KILLED this afternoon by Lincoln Chafee.
See Steve Clemons’ last two posts at http://www.thewashingtonnote.com.
Buh-bye Walrus!
Rayne @ 29
Wrong answer. Nancy: Call Claire.
And somebody should tell Tweety about that, too.
Rayne @ 31
Tester was good. McCaskill was not expecting that question, and it showed.
Hey! When do these new senators get their email boxes set up, eh?
I mean, where do we send an email to Claire, to gently suggest she needs to know whereof she speaks before she comments?
The Bush Administration. The domino effect.
I also really must go get some work done, but I had to post this link to a post from no-so-far back: What They Fear.
Just too good not to relive.
Normally, I would tut tut tut about doing someting like kicking him out of hi office space and label it childish.
Not this time. Making Cheney feel impotent is my idea of a good time.
Charlie Rangel is from my glorious empire state of New York.

FWIW, Stephen Root is a comic genius. I could watch him and the late Phil Hartman on News Radio for hours and never get tired of it. And this stapler bit — and the scene where he talks about the frolicking squirrels? Brilliant…just brilliant.
TPM saying that Cambone is resigning from DOJ. He then states “someone secure the files.” Wow. Is he leaving the country for Paraguay or something?
Bionic @ 25
He was. This has been another episode in our series, “simple answers to simple questions” (see Atrios).
Yep wingnuts, it’s going to be real sweet watching both Charlie Rangel and Madame Speaker deservedly measuring those drapes.
Speaking of congressmen with guts, I want to call John Conyers’ office, and ask a staffer to deliver a message in person. Since he’s going to be very busy, I’ll keep it short and sweet: “Go get ‘em.”
Do I have the consensus of the FDL community to offer this message on behalf of the blog?
Did Jack Cafferty dis The Beard a while ago? Blitz was gushing over how great their capitol hill reporter was (John King) and was pushing Jack to agree.
Jack replied (my paraphrase) “Wolf, you’re such a kiss ass, you could give lessons. I won’t be taking any though.”
Harry. You call Claire. Too.
I believe you have my iron lung…
I have been out of the Lake a lot recently doing Election Monitoring stuff and then trying to catch up on my court appearances, but has anybody posted this link about our new Sec Def to be?
http://www.fas.org/irp/offdocs/walsh/chap_16.htm
This links to LArry Walsh’s Special Counsel report from Iran Countra. Read it.
And then take note that the Irving Libby “I can’t rememeber” defense has been tried before and got a prior Special Counsel to back down.
Larry Walsh was one heck of a good lawyer, but nobody does it like our Fitz.
GrandmaJ @ 44
Grandma, your post confused me for a moment, until I realized you had a typo.
Steve Cambone resigned from the DOD, not the DOJ.
That’s really, really good news. Thanks for posting that info!

Mrs. K8 – thanks for figuring it out. DOD – DOJ – I was just amazed at how fast they are leaving the site of their crimes. Do you think they want to be far away when the investigations start?
One of the great clips. Damn, it’s nice to have some fun. It’s like the second week of a vacation–when you realize how wound up you’ve been. I’ve been wound up like that since Joe Wilson said I was lied to. And because of him, and you, Jane and Christy, it’s come to this: I can smile. Thanks, all of ya.
Pulled this gem from Nancy Pelosi’s speech to the 2005 AIPAC Policy Conference, in May, 2005:
“There are those who contend that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is all about Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. This is absolute nonsense. In truth, the history of the conflict is not over occupation, and never has been: it is over the fundamental right of Israel to exist.
“The greatest threat to Israel’s right to exist, with the prospect of devastating violence, now comes from Iran. For too long, leaders of both political parties in the United States have not done nearly enough to confront the Russians and the Chinese, who have supplied Iran as it has plowed ahead with its nuclear and missile technology.

That would not be illogical. Rudy is one of the few national Republicans who not afraid to be seen with know homoseulas. He is really quite good that way.
However, considering Rudy’s problems with Berni Kerick (look for more to come) and with the pedophile priest guy on his staff (who hires a priest to wrk in their private, for profit company? So, weird) I don’t think Rudy can afford anymore people with negative baggage around him.
But with the Rude Dude, ya just nevah know.

Yes I know. But sometimes I think there is safety in ‘numbers’. :) Besides I trust Pelosi. And the jury is still out on Reid. For me. :)
GrandmaJ @ 65
Grandma — That and the fact that the neocons will be eaten alive by the uniformed brass without Rummy there to protect them. Seriously. I think there are folks over there who would love to clean Cambone’s clock with brass knuckles.
Remember too — Cambone’s position was “Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence” at the Pentagon. Those are the intelligence cookers in his dept., the heirs of the Office of Special Plans.
I hope this is a sign that the huge shift of intelligence control over to the Pentagon is going to get dismantled soon.
Thanks Peterr – I ran so fast back to FDL with my little bit of news, I got too excited and tripped on my typing, and forgot to mind my manners (link).

Did you see Mehlman on CNN on election eve? He looked like he had been partying for several days with no sleep. He looked BAD.
Thank you Peterr. I have been, and still am buried under an avalanche, but I really missed being here.

And I’m sure that’s unrelated to Maher re-outing him on Larry King, even if they did scrub it from the later showing.
Edward Teller – that speech and the slap she made to Howard Dean about being “evanhanded” in the Middle East are the 2 reasons I do not trust Pelosi. Everyone seems to be excited about her and she has come forward to the community but she can stab people in the back with the best.
We shall see. But she is not going to allow anyone to be ‘evanhanded’ with Israel.

Here’s a thought. How about when we contribute to a candidate’s campaign it’s a *conditional loan*, repayable at any time if they screw up before the end of their term.
I hope we can watch a clip soon of the blog piece on CNN a bit ago called “Netroots’ Net Gains”. It highlighted the new power of the blogosphere, showed ActBlue and how it raised over $17 million for this election, showed Kos’ webpage. I saw the FDL name on the screen briefly. For the wingers they quoted a paltry $300,000 in fundraising. The wingers can’t do anything right.
shooogarp @ 61
But look at this polling data:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/20…..lls.0.html
It at least shows that white women voted more for Webb than white men did. I have to find hope where I can.
why am I in moderation @ 82?
Cujo359 @ 81
Yes, that’s exactly how he looked.
The obnoxious Suzanne M. at CNN just reported to Lou Dobbs that not only did Joe Biden slap down Bolton for the next Senate session, but that “Republicans are saying they’re unlikely to take up Bolton in this session.”
That includes Lincoln Chafee and his bold press conference today, the message of which was “IX-NAY ON OLTON-BAY.”
Still looking to see if I can find video or at least a clip from his press conference.
Raph Levien @ 47
I just called his Washington office and spoke to a very friendly staffer. I explained about firedoglake, and she seemed very impressed by the approx. 100,000 page views per day we’ve been getting the last week (check the site meter). She confirmed that Congressman Conyers is indeed busy, but seemed to appreciate the message for him. At the end of the call, she took my name and ended by saying, “you’re a doll.”
One more tiny action in support of real voice-of-the-voter democracy. It’s my belief that they all add up, somehow.

Um, let me clarify.
Suzanne’s report is good news.
Calling her “obnoxious” doesn’t reflect this bit of news, but rather her as a talking head in general. She IS obnoxious. But the news IS good.
Ed*ard Teller @ 67
Russia, China. Yes. The U.S.,(under Bush primarily) abrogation of responsibility in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict figures heavily into the mix. :)
I think Mehlman wore too much “flair”.
GrandmaJ @

If you’re referring to Dean’s comment re Israel and the Palestinians back in March of 2004, his “evenhanded” comment at that time was more pivotal than the manufactured “scream.” Within 48 hours of his comment re I/P relations, the press turned on him and donations other than those from his own apparatus dried down to a trickle.
If this Dem victory is going to have much to do with “justice” on an international level, “evenhanded” needs to be resurrected….

Information at your fingertips.
This morning on NPR, they had a story about a 95 year old women who had been voting since 1930 without fail. Anyway, Tuesday she couldn’t find anyone to drive her (how did we miss her?) so she called 911. The emergency workers then called her polling place and they came and picked her up and she voted. I love stories like this on NPR.
If only the MSM would snap out of their thinking that people are turned on by the stupid stories they present. I also love the NPR Nature bytes and I don’t think I’m alone.

HotFlash @ 101
:))))
PROVIDENCE, R.I. –Two days after losing a bid for a second term in an election seen as a referendum on President Bush and the Republican Party, Sen. Lincoln Chafee said he was unsure whether he’d remain a Republican. “I haven’t made any decisions. I just haven’t even thought about where my place is,” Chafee said at a news conference Thursday when asked whether he would stick with the Republican Party or switch to be an independent or Democrat.
When asked if his comments meant he thought he might not belong in the Republican Party, he replied: “That’s fair.”
Chafee, 53, is the most liberal Republican in the Senate and was the sole Senate Republican to vote against the war in Iraq. That was not enough to save his seat against the winner, Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse, who shared many of Chafee’s views but was a member of the dominant party in a state where Democrats far outnumber Republicans.”

Mel Gibson
ccmask @ 116
Her name is Anna Urban, from Reading, PA. I read that story yesterday. Actually, being 95, I think the first election she voted in was 1932 (she was 21 yrs old then) for FDR. She’s been a registered Democrat ever since.
That was a story which brought tears to my eyes. Even telling Mr. K8 about it later last night, I couldn’t spill it out without crying. What a beautiful thing!
Anna Urban said on Tuesday, “You can’t be a good citizen unless you vote.”
Raph Levien @ 112
I thought it was obvious that I was only speaking for myself. I can’t imagine anyone here objecting to what Ralph suggested.
rwcole @ 120
I saw another clip from that story over at Democratic Underground (in the Latest Breaking News forum).
When asked if he thought his loss was a good thing for the nation, Chafee said, “To be honest, yes.”
That’s classy!
Although he would have done less damage if he’d shifted parties much, much earlier. He could’ve been an Independent caucusing with Dems, if he didn’t want to go all the way to Dem.
If he’d done that, he’d still have his seat. Very sad.
If Chafee had switched parties six months ago, he’d still have a job.

Yep- I was thinking the same thing during the campaign. It was the perfect time for him to switch. He must have considered it- but he would have had to win the primary in the dem party.
By historical standards:
This wasn’t much of a loss
Iraq isn’t much of a war
And Clusterfuck isn’t much of a president.
HotFlash @ 128
Yes – supposedly there were only 16,000 vote cast New Haven – which doesn’t make sense at all.
rwcole @ 129

rw cole –
Chafee should’ve switched, let’s say, to Independent at least six months ago.
If he had caucused with the Dems at that point, he wouldn’t have needed to win the Dem primary. And he’d still have his job. The party in Rhode Island wouldn’t have gone out to defeat him. Maybe he wouldn’ve even been running unopposed by a Dem.
Now, there would’ve been a GOP wingnut running against him, but that wingnut would’ve lost, don’t you think?

Now that the republicans are truly cutting and running when will the Democrats start focusing on real issues of consequence to humanity and the planet?
1-Climate change and American corporations moronic delusions and non-response about it.
2-America’s tawdry, disgusting, love affair with constant war and mayhem, and interFEARance in other nations existence via our overwhelming supply of death weapons and willingness to use them indiscriminately and sell them to just about anyone.
3-Impeaching the men who would destroy the Constitution, the 1st, the 4th, the 5th, and the 8th amendments in particular, raid the treasury, and tyrannically seek to destroy peoples lives and despoil their resources.
Or is this too much to ask of the people we worked so hard to elect?

I was thinking today about Ed Bradley’s death.
I wonder if he let go in his fight against leukemia once he saw that the deathgrip of tyranny was broken on Tuesday.
Just for myself and my own little health problems — I’m freakin’ exhausted! In a collapsed state — that adrenal gland got such a work-out of anxiety leading up to hearing the results.

I feel the same way you do. Why would Connecticut be so different from the rest of the nation? Makes no sense.
Hey HotFlash — you out there?
Caught your comment about the 501-type organization. It’s possible, but we’d have to do a 501(c)3, I think.
Ideally, a 527 each for state-local and a 527 for national-state are established in each county. They rent space from the 501, which may include use of other resources like computers and printers.
A 501(c)4 is set up for voter education; it can’t endorse a candidate, but that’s what the 527’s are for. It can support initiatives. The 501(c)4 handles issues like teaching folks how to become more effective activists, trains candidates in how to run effective and legal campaigns, trains poll workers on how to keep elections clean.
A 501(c)3 is the service vehicle that provides assistance to community members. It can’t endorse candidates either, but it can support initiatives that serve their clientele.
There, I think I laid out the structure. As little as 2, as many as 4 organizations required to fulfill the objectives of permanent Democratic bases on American soil. Heh.
Mrs. K8 @ 150
I wonder about that, too,
RIP, Mr. Bradley and family.

Ha ha. I watched cable chat today for the first time in years and was astounded by Carlson. I know everyone has been calling him an idiot but honest to god, HE REALLY IS AN IDIOT!
He had a dem strategist on and a repub one too (Stone?) and they were both agreeing on everything – that Bush was a selfish dumfuck on his timing to fire Rumsfeld and on the whole conduct of this Iraq debacle. The dem (who was great) even said laughingly he was going to cede his time to the repub because agreed with everything he said.
And Tucker just started arguing with both of them!!! Defending the war, talking about brown people coming to get us. It was insane!

I know. If Joe had been honest about being a Republican he would have been gone in a heartbeat. But he was allowed to call himself an Independent Dem (with seniority and all that good stuff) and, of course, Clinton broadcast that whether Ned or Joe won it was cool, because either way there would be a Dem senator from CT.
Then Joe lied about every single campaign issue – saying he was anti-war, would NEVER privatize social security, etc.
He took away everything that Ned could use to get traction.
New thread, gang. Fresh meat.
Mr. Teller at 94 – I totally agree. The shouting after that comment of Dean’s reached proportions of absurdity – and more.
And that conflict was just about the beginning of the end of my participation on the DFA blog. We were split about half/half on that comment. But people were piling into the website with comments not fit to print.
DFA was the very first website I found after I got my computer for Mother’s day. My son-in-law plugged it in, set it up, and said “yell at the computer about Bush, not us”.

Yes. Precisely. That was what I saw. Tucker ought to leave cable teevee now that he’s getting so pudgy — and go on wingnut welfare.
Maybe he can be an editor over at NewsMax or something.
ruffian: Thanks for the Nanny story. That was great!
Joining late, but let me mention…. Bill Maher is (supposedly) going to out Ken Mehlman tomorrow night on his show…or is that old news?
Re HotFlash @ 128:
Sorry not to post a link to DU, in my comment in the preceding thread about the exit polls in Virginia and Montana.
‘autorank’ at DU is the commenter who posted TIA’s analysis and numbers. The comment is at 12:58 p.m. today, 11/9, in the latest Discussion Threads (the headlines you see when you enter DU after the front page). It’s also in their Election Reform forum, I believe. I don’t believe links to DU work, for some reason, but in case they now do, here it is:

[I’ll post this comment in the new thread as well, in hopes you’ll catch it.]

Go away George.
We just don’t believe you.
Nancy’s in charge now.
Moment of silence for Ed Bradley. One of the best. He stood for what we can be in America.
