So, how's your morning? I'm off to get myself some coffee…but first, this lovely tune for your listening and viewing pleasure.
And may I say, thank you so much for every bit of work you all put into getting out our vote, canvassing, working for the various campaigns around the country, fundraising and contacting representatives about all of the issues we all feel are important. Every seat the Democrats won is your victory. Without your votes and your hard work, none of this would have happened. So give yourself a a big round of applause.
You guys RAWK!

Finally! Morning Christy!
Ha! Yet another Zero!
Welcome to the New America, Firepups!
Tester’s barely hanging on in MT.

FDL!
HEH IN_FUCKIN-DEEDY!
This is totally my favorite hangover.
YEAHHHHHH! And, what a beautiful blue sky beach. Just perfect.
This was the most important election of my lifetime.
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Greatest respect, thanks, and congratulations to each and every one of you.
To our hosts, look what you’ve done! Incredible job.
OK, who’s next?
LJ –
Thanks for the reports, it’s such a damned nailbiter.
Those last numbers, they’re not final, are they?
Balrog @ 8
Who’s next? Rahm and Chuckie need a good slap-down.
Thanks to all of you there at FDL. I have been energized and motivated by what I have read. I gave money, made calls, did visibility, drove to two other states to help out all because of what I read. It was amazing knowing I wasn’t alone in my corner!
Are there any plans under way to set-up an official “thanks Ned” mechanism? Without him the day wouldn’t look so bright (metaphorically speaking – it’s actually all gray and rainy here).
Burns doesn’t have enough in Yellowstone County to close the gap!
Morning all — very bleary-eyed here this morning. For some reason, I’m just freaking exhausted. *g* (But in a good way…)
Christy, can we have a post detailing responses from some of our favorite ReThugs?
It would be fun to read how this is being spun by the chatterati.
Looks very, very good for Tester. He’s up by over 1,500 with 99% reporting.
let the impeachment begin

Here’s a new diary at dKos, somebody yelling for help in Montana –
http://www.dailykos.com/storyo…..51248/1653
I don’t know what to think about this all, it seems somehow hinky.
My morning is nighttime — nice chilly night here
ready for a long bath, and then some dreams of
even more good things for the planet,
before I wake up tomorrow and hear HH the DL
address the kids at my school — wooooHOOO!
SO MANY HUGE GYNORMOUS THANKS
to all your hardworking Firepups,
esp Christy and Jane and Trex for all the
fantastic updating live! Y’all WAY RAWK!
Do you think it would be horribly tacky of me to go down in the elevator in my cozy jammies and robe to get some coffee? No room service here and I’m dying for coffee service, but I cannot face shoes and clothes yet. Blergh.
OMFG. I think Tester’s going to pull it out, even though Burns will probably (and would be a fool not to) demand a recount.
3 hours sleep & I’ve never felt more invigorated, go Tester & Webb!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 19
nope, you’re beautiful enough to do it! you will make everybody’s day!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 19
Room Service?
Tester said on CNN that his lawyers don’t think anything dubious was going on and that he’s confident that he’s going to win. I have to say, it looks like he was right, at least about winning.
tim @
16
YEEE HAW and amen!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 19
Not in the least. Put slippers on, though. Wouldn’t wanna be a *barefoot* blogger.
Yeah, that’s weird about Yellowstone and Silver Bow being so far declined.
I don’t know who to contact up there to get this going. DKos would probably have better resources there.
Good Morning My Beloved Insurrectionists !
LJ – great to see you still at it – you were a standout last night – all up in the mutha
Tommy Yum – heartening to hear Esten is well, so very sad about kitteh – just went through it with my best friend – you are doing the right thing
Moon Womyn – a big phat FDL Good On Ya !!! your comment confirms that there was indeed an army of us out there – welcome to DeLurkville !
Christy – have that same “but in a good way feeling” myself – more coffee babies ?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 19
I asked you for something before coffee?
Bad Balrog. Bad naughty Balrog.
If there’s a breakfast delivery joint send me their number and your preferred menu and breakfast is on me.
We did it! What a glorious day. Call room service for that coffee!
Truly a new and beautiful Morning here in America!
God bless America and all FirePups for helping get us back on the path!
A NEW Day indeed!
I see AZ rejected the gay marriage ban and South Dakota rejected the abortion ban.
I would love to see a post with our gps route for correcting teh damage that has been done
gonna be a long hard path and with no doubt, witout us the democrats will not get it done
What source are people using for the Montana numbers? I’m looking at the Montana Sec. of State site and it will has Tester up by 3K.
LJ/Aquaria @ 27
I haven’t rummaged through the comments in that diary yet. My eyes are so bleary, but maybe I’ll brave it, even if sooner or later I gotta conk out here.
Boosting this up from below because I feel the same:
GrandmaJ @ 418
LJ/A Thank you so much for staying on top of the Tester race! Did I just see a nice jump?
I’ve been waiting for it. Deadly for me. I think I used up at least a third of my allotted internet minutes for the month just for yesterday through today. I need sleep, but I’m too wired for it.
NH turned bright blue!
This is one of the busiest mornings at FDL that I can remember.
Audrey —
Same here, about being wired. And that’s even AFTER I took some melatonin. Talk about bein’ a political JUNKIE.
morning, pups!
coffee’s ready and I’m sure it’s strong – hold out your cups…
Thank you so much, Christie, Jane, TRex, Pach, Howie, and so many others.
No, not thank you for your website, although it truly rocks (in Left Blogistan, only you have realized that excellent pictures and superlative writing are so important, to go along with breathtaking analysis).
Thank you for a Democratic House and Senate.
And thanks for all in the FDLosphere, Kososphere, AmericaBlogosphere, MyDDosphere, etc.-osphere — hundreds of thousands of action-minded progressives — who got out their checkbooks and later got out the vote.
Did FDL, Blue America, and others make a difference. Just look at the margins. If we weren’t there, the Republicans would be in control:
Montana, 1,500 votes
Virginia, 8,000 votes
Missouri, 42,000 votes
We are at the progressive table, and we have a right to be listened to in Democratic councils. WE WON.
Fox’s Shep Smith – ‘Virginia is for lawyers.’
-via thinkprogress
This is the best that I have felt in six long years since Bushie and the Supremos stole Florida.
What they did to our America is so tragic that for the first time in my life, I questioned whether democracy exists.
It does… The Nation spoke and the wave spread from the East to West coast.
I know I’ve got issues, but the Libby case on January 17th is my next landmark.
What they did to smear Ambassador Wilson and how they knowingly mislead this nation to war is in my opinion treason.
Did I say High Treason.
We will see if a court agrees and whether the DNA convicts those liars…
I know it sounds harsh but well, it is…
Thanks for being there to hear my rantings…
Thank you God for Keith Olbermann
Jack
I can’t seem to wipe the smile off my face.
Coffee is on the house, a fine Colombian brew with a taste of French Vanilla added in.
Blue America has become Blue America!
Thank god for Lamont and the blog push – They pressed the Dems to wake up and change course in time to win the election.
Thank god for Howard Dean and the 50 state strategy
Thank god for K.O., John Stewart, and others for speaking truth and sanity to corruption and power. Also – Murtoch, Clinton, Pelosi and other Dems who finally got the courage to push back against Fox and the right wing media.
Thank god for those courageous gays who decided to out (and move out) the morally bankrupt minority still in the closet who were content to eat their own for political gain – beginning with those who pressed against the continued abuse in the Foley case.
Thank god for the liberal blog masters (Jane, Christy and everyone else) who kept pressing us to give the best of ourselves for the best of the country.
I need to cry and I can’t. I feel so elated with the tide having turned across the country…
But so very sad that many important races and initiatives failed, particularly on a state and local level.
Two of our candidates for state legislature didn’t make it, with one of the votes only just now being called within the hour.
And 58% of Michigan voters upended affirmative action.
Wish they could have spoken with that female voter in one of my precincts who’d asked for a job application at a lawn care firm, only to be asked by the company, “Oh, is this for your husband?”
And Lamont — I am so very sorry that democratic (little d) process failed him.
[sigh]
Is this for real? Could it really be? Am I dreaming? Someone pinch me. No– someone shoot me in the face. Dick, where are you when I need you?
BWA HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA. How awesome is this? Georgie must have a pile in his pants about now. What was that about the math you were looking at, Karl? You sorry suckholes are GOING DOWN!
I’m tempted to hit every wingnut site with gloating comments. Sean Hannity, you’re first!
Christy, you looked great last night in turquoise. Have to admit I watched MSNBC all night, couldn’t pass up KO. I thought they did a great job & old Tweety really hung in there, though he really pissed off Joe Scarborough. This AM Imus was criticizing both of them in his own inimitable way. Can’t remember a more exciting election night.
Burns did NOT get enough for Yellowstone to close the gap. I’m crunching the numbers, but he needed at least 1500 more votes from there than he had early, and he didn’t even get that many more in the entire county!
Tester’s got it.
Great morning! Not as good in KY as I would have hoped, but at least Anne is gone!
…but the MOST important story from yesterday was:
After two years, Britney has had enough
why do all the repugs on the tv seem so subdued?
and, what’s that funny feeling in my chest?
oh yeah… it is HOPE!
LJ/Aquaria @ 49
And if the 50%-47% is an indicator, Burns will get only about a net increase of about 90 votes I think. TESTER!
I’m using a combination of sites. The MT state site is way behind what CBS has, and they’re more in tune with what the actual county election boards have posted.
I’m calling it for Tester.
The Yellowstone numbers CBS is using are the FINAL numbers, as per the Yellowstone county website. There aren’t 4 precincts waiting for results in Yellowstone. It’s DONE.
That leaves Meagher county.
We got the Senate, too!
LJ!
woo-hoo! great job last night – thank you…
what in the world are you doing up so early again today?
For those who don’t know, Meagher is very small, and very rural.
Old Coast:
I work graveyard shift. Night is my “day!”
I feel a little different than at this time in 2004…..Watching Imus, and he’s actually funny !
What a great day !
Tom DeLay’s seat went Democrat :) The roach has been exterminated.
LJ/Aquaria @ 55
So. Very. Sweet.
And now, despite the alarm clock that just went off here… I sleep. A very good night, all!
As I sit here, all the major news organizations show the Senate tied 49-49, assuming that the two “Independents” will caucus with the Democrats. Also at this time, the vote counts show Webb beating Tester by 1744 votes in MT, and Webb taking Virginia by 7874 votes. If the totals hold, the Dems will then theoretically hold 51 seats and the Senate. It is at that point that we will see the results of the failure of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Harry Reid and other Democrats to offer more than lip service and a few token $ to Ned Lamont and actively get out and campaign for him, as Joe Liarman repays Karl Rove, Cheney, and the accidental president and stabs the Dems in the back in the guise of “bipartisanship” and hands the Senate to the Rethuglicans. And what will they all say then as there surely will be hell to pay….
LJ –
Thank you so much! I tried plowing through all the comment on Kos, but the sleep-deprivation is making me stupid.
Bless you for helping us keep up with what’s what. Guess I can finally turn in.
Christie, go for the goods! Travel and necessity makes us bold. TAke it on, dear woman! Still harbaring wins here and grieving the losses. Grey and dreary start to the day.
It’s cold and rainy here, and it’s the nicest day in a long time!
I’m up early after another night of too little sleep because our phone line has been wonky since Friday and today was the earliest they could fix it. (My volunteers had trouble calling me — I hate the fact that this country is in a state where I even think this could be part of a dirty trick.)
Incidentally, if anyone’s the least bit worried about a Webb-Allen recount, don’t be. This is where no-paper-trail electronic voting bites them in the ass. I was involved in the recount for the attorney general’s race last year, and unless they can show malfeasance (and there won’t be any on the Dem side), it’ll consist of checking that the totals from all the voting machines were recorded right and add up in each precinct. In the AG race, we had less than fifty votes shift out of two million, and less than 100 between the unofficial election-night count and the certified count.
For those who wish to do a wee bit more…ummm…gloating, now’s probably the very best time to visit those sites inhabited by our dearly departed. *g*
You know, the places like Little Green Falafels or “We’ve Lost Power”line.
I can guarantee that you will find most of the trollish residents lying stunned upon their keisters, gibberishly moaning for Rapture to alleviate their suffering.
Today, and for many, many days hereafter, the resident wingnuts will be lost in mutual delirious navel-gazing with nothing of sustenance found but second-hand lint.
If you’re even mildly interested, you might survey just how many choose to remain aboard SS Titanic and how many now would sell their souls for a seat on a Lifeboat.
Please, send them my regards. Bon voyage, mes ami! Tootle-loo!
Now I’m so happy that I can cry!
Somebody please tell me if we actually took the Senate, or if it’s so much wishful thinking.
Do we have to win MT AND VA to take control?
Thanks for the comment Redshift and all your hard work!
On Lieberman – He is such a nasty, self-interested little man, I don’t think that the Repugs can count on him for any real support.I bet pretty soon he will line up with the neo-Cons who are condemning Bush and his people for messing up the Iraq “opportunity.”
I like studying this new reality turdblossom! This means you must be working on a new one, howabout Prez Nancy?
Christy — that seems like perfectly polite hotel behavior to me.
Mad Dogs @ 66
Cue the implosion. These people are going to eat each other alive.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!1!!one!!
Both are won, pending recounts. Democrats control the Senate unless recounts reverse one of those races.
Rayne @ 46
word is the big D Democrats’ process, namely Charles Schumer, failed him too. I’m sure you guys already went over this (I’m in Europe hiding from the last campaign commercials) but Lamont named Schumer. Sooner rather than later, the Dem Establishment’s double-cross of Lamont is gonna bite them on the ass. Either when JoMo goes SecDef and Jodi Rell appoints Shays to his seat, or when Bush nominates Janice Rogers Brown and Lieberman calls a press conference with the rest of the torture-dead armadillo caucus (Salazar, Landrieu, Prior, etc) to announce his full support for this noble and historic appointment.
The only reason I won’t find this funny is that we’re are the ones who will have to pay for the Schumer/Clinton/Reid stupidity and duplicity in CT.
I was glad to keep track of stuff. Most people are tired when the hot stuff comes over the transom, but I’m wide awake.
The only bright spot in Texas is that Bonilla has yet to reach 50% to win his seat.
I hope Ciro steamrolls him next month!
tommy yum @ 68
Yes!
MT and VA bring us to 51 (with Lieberman).
Richmond @ 45
Amen
LJ/Aquaria-
Have you slept yet?!? the last time I left you, it was after 0100 EST.
Thanks for the morning update, and what happened in Yellowstone and Silver Bow? Have a friend in Helena…waiting until it is not so early to call him for on-the-ground details.
LJ/Aquaria @ 55
Having just posted my own victory cheer for all our squeakers, now a note of caution.
Not yet fully counted (in Montana, in Virginia, in some other squeakers):
Absentee ballots.
Provisional ballots.
Apparently Montana absentees are not all counted, and the COP (Corrupt Old Party) has had a big push for them most everywhere.
As for provisionals, I want to hope that they are more for our side than for the other side in, for example, Virginia. Why’s that? Because the R’s are the ones who are interested in vote suppression, so when voters are challenged at a poll and then vote a provisional ballot (under the terms of HAVA), maybe there are more D provisionals than R provisionals.
Anyone know the likelihoods on both?
Jim Webb!
Thank you Redshift @ 65!
Bring the troops home and stop the bloodshed.
I am eternally grateful to all of the FDLers who helped make history here in CA-11. Howie, Christy, Jane, Pach, TRex and everyone here who cheered us on, helped us call voters. I am just on cloud nine today. NO MORE POMBO!!!
Yesterday I checked back into the headquarters briefly to pick up another volunteer for the precinct I was working and there was Jerry McNerney himself. He walked right up to us and thanked us personally for all the work we had done, shaking each one of our hands. I was touched yesterday and am floating on air today.
Thankyouthankyouthankyouthanyou Firedogs!!!
Tester has won. Webb has won.
Burns will challenge. Allen probably won’t.
John Casper @ 77
Do you think K. Harris will be able to finish her tell-all book before her tragic accident?
Watch out for W appointing JoMo as DecDef and Rell appointing a repuke…
Watched clips of “macaca” boy’s rally on Monday eve and the crowd was dismally small, I was shocked at how little noise they made as he sauntered off stage, phony smile painted on, football as prop in hand. Heard that Webb had thousands upon thousands of enthusiastic supporters on hand for his.
I refuse to believe that VA has that many bigots/fools. There is a lot of BS going on in Virginia right now. The Dems need to TAKE that fucking seat from these criminals. Enough is enough!
Hmmm. Christy’s not responding. I think she’s on her way to get the coffee quick and come back up.
I know how cranky I get without morning coffee. Our Redd is much more polite than I am, I’m sure.
Lamont is a good man. We need people like him. If Montana and Virginia don’t end up Democratic, is it really a Dem Senate with Lieberman (I can’t even stand the thought of him!)
Yes!
Now we just have to be patient to the end of the month for the ‘official’ VA recount.
Oh, not entirely off-topic, but as I was falling asleep on Monday night, I thought about the Cheney “top executive branch officials don’t have to respond to subpoenas” comment, and realized the perfect paraphrase of Orwell to describe Cheney’s worldview:
“All three branches are co-equal, but some are more co-equal than others.”
Also watch out for the lame-duck fire sale.
They’re gonna pad their asses thick, to try and make the subpoenas bounce off.
Damn. You all are too fast for me this am.
TESTER!!!
Well, even with Lieberman, we get to assign chairs and set agendas, which is a big plus.
The Yellowstone guy gave away how the system works in MT. If I’m reading it right, the Absentee ballots are included in the totals for each county, as per the Billings Gazette. They’re loaded at the end, but they’re all there.
It’s down to provisionals in MT, and Meagher (meager–how appropriate!) County.
I call Tester.
Is the press going to ask Miss Piggy Rover what happened to “THE MATH”?
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
Karl is the Architect of one of the BIGGEST GOPper losses.
again
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
LJ/Aquaria @ 83
A recount is automatic in Virginia and paid by the state, if the loser asks.
Of course Allen will. The entire corrupt enterprise of this Administration rests on it.
ADVENTURES IN POLL WATCHING
A Poll Watcher watches the polls-I just recorded names and marked off voters on our Democrats List. The Election workers had more work to do but they were very friendly. A few Rethuglicans did correctly sense that I was there to destroy their NEW WORLD ORDER.
“What are you doing?” with animal hatred in their eyes.
“I am a poll watcher. You should try it.” said snarky me. I was working for a Democratic challenger who is up by ONE PERCENT!. Several races are as close as can be but I presume the “advanced voting” and Absentees are going our way for recounts. It was fun although after about nine hours I started making mistakes due to sleep deprivation.
Poll Watching-you should try it!
DefJef @ 86
No way will No-Joe leave his Senate seat. Remember his V-P run? He needs the drug money his wife brings in.
Last night Mrs. Greenspan was in shock what with Lieberman winning when all the big-name Democrats supported Lamont. Not. She stated Hillary campaigned for Lamont. Is she knowingly misstating or just ignorant? If only we could vote out the media pundits. When Cokie showed up on ABC this morning, I was happy to be able to shut her down with a click.
tfitznc @ 90
Well, I have already sharpened Jim’s pencils and will give him a new briefcase ASAP.
Oh my goodness, VA has a democratic Senator with a brain!
DefJef @ 86
This is the conventioal wisdom. Rummy has to go, and Bush now knows it. The RNC is intent on contolling the Senate (hence the large sonations to LfL).
Slo-Mo Joe then defects to the Sec Def position, rell appoints a Rove lackey. and now it is 50-50 with Blinside Cheney in the catbird seat.
I hat that fucker Lieberman.
Is it too early to worry about what Holy Joe’s demands will be to not turn Republican?
I have to think that the Repugs will ask him to switch so that the Shooter’s vote will be the tie-breaker.
The Liarman has a lot of leverage here!
We need a South Africa style truth commission Amnesty for war profiteering to indivduals (no corporations ) but Amnesty only for the stuff you confess and make part of the public record. Preferably with evidence of some sort backing up your claims so instead of lengthy trials we get people with guilty consciences talking and when the truly guilty see how many people are talking they will talk too! First because they fear being named and second its cheaper than paying a lawyer PLUS ITS A SURE TICKET TO STAY OUT OF JAIL. What is the aim of this action? To nail the corporations who committed war proffiteering and to quickly and cheaply handle this matter, while getting this very damaging to the GOP information out to the public quickly while our election irons are still hot!
Prof @ 98
I don’t think he will, to be honest. He’ll huff and puff for a while. But he won’t.
Burns has a good case: There’s barely 1500 votes separating them.
Webb has anywhere from 8-12K votes. It’s a lot harder to find votes for you when that many are against you.
Oh by the way here is KKKArl’s email in case you want to congratulate him.
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
karl_c._rove@who.eop.gov
IIRC, Immanentize had a very interesting comment last night about Lieberman4Lieberman. In 2008, a lot of GOP Senate seats come up, so it’s very possible, that the Dems will gain in the Senate. At that point, the Dems may reassign some of Joe’s Committee assignments,
put him in charge of the Page program.Mrs. K8 @ 39
I thought I was bad before the Internet. Good grief. I’m afraid it will be even worse for me now that we have actual progressives in office.
I bet Russ Feingold is happy today. He’ll have more like-minded company! :)
BTW: Christy should know that the owner of the Tryst said that bloggers are better looking than he thought. (Not sure what he expected though.)
DefJef @ 86
That, of course, is the real danger. Let’s not forget when, for a brief moment a few years ago, we got the Senate back due to a defection to our side. It can happen the other way around.
There is an old saying: “He may be an SOB, but he’s our SOB.”
I am as pissed at Rape Gurney Joe as anyone, but now — sad to say — we need to keep him. He is part of our (it really gags me to say it) thin margin of victory in the US Senate.
Gawd, how I hate to write that.
Yeah, I know you guys are reloading this one like mad too,
but it does look like we are closing in on the gold in MT
Tester 190,486 49%
Burns 188,900 48%
99% of precincts reporting
Looks like we are up 2500 more or less …
Now for a long hot immersion, and maybe when I emerge, this one will be solid BLUE …
Good morning to all, on remaining county to be counted in Montana senate race.
via google on Meagher County, Montana:
http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin…..ndex=22330
“Meagher County is one of 56 counties in Montana. The estimated population in 2004 was 1,977. This was an increase of 2.33% from the 2000 census.”
oddball @ 103
Prof @ 80
It is my understanding that they count the absentee ballots before the regular votes (actually, this is what led to the snafu with the machines and the manual recount). I also heard on CNN a couple hours ago that there are about 500 absentee ballots that are illegible and will take some time to analyze.
But that doesn’t seem like enough to make a serious dent in Tester’s lead. Provisional…
Franco @ 107
I would be afraid of getting a virus or STD. I wouldn’t go near that fork in the tube.
LJ – let me add my thanks to your great persistance in following these races. Your comments as you watched the numbers come in for Webb would have been funny if my stomach wasn’t in knots waiting for it to finally flip our way.
Standing up clapping for you. Great work. And I will believe you calling the race for Tester rather than waiting for Candy Crowley calling the race. Yuk, all the second guessing and mewing going on in the T.V. this a.m.
Prof @ 110
It’s not up to us to keep him. His mind is made up. I didn’t hear his speech, but apparently he said he is beholden to no party? and he said on Imus last week, more or less, that he is staying with the Dems to protect his own seniority. He’s out for revenge. And he’ll get it. Probably a lot of it. Probably in a few different ways. Schumer and Hillary and Harry have only themselves to blame, but we have to suffer for it.
Toobin on CNN says Tester’s lead is currently larger than the auto-recount in MT.
Dover Bitch @ 118
Fuck yeah!
Thanks to all at FDL!
It’s raining and gray and couldn’t be a more beautiful morning.
Singin’ in the rain!
Rawk on!
Well, as I said last night, I think y’all know where I usually ended up on campaigns–trolling for precinct data and analyzing it. It was my very favorite thing to do. :)
a headline on MSNBC.com:
Scandals hurt GOP more than war.
meme-shift alert. Level 4.
1,326 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen Hardin Smith and the Firepup Patriots:
JEEzus H. ceeRIST on a god damned crutch…can anybody point me in the direction of the final numbers in the House of Representatives??!!! Where the hell are all the sites with trackin maps??!! What is the total pick-up number??!!
Now, before y’all go pass out on the furlined seat in the outhouse, remember that we gotta start organizin’ an army behind Nancy Pelosi in the House. If ya wanna take the glow offa the victory, take a look at who she has breathin’ down ‘er neck in the House leadership…Steny Fuckin’ Hoyer, Rahm the Snake Emmanuel, and John the Good ol’ Boy Murtha!! I don’t know about you, but the picture of those 3 fuckers jumpin’ Nancy in the cloakroom keeps my eyes wide open!
And jest ta keep yer attention…Mrs. Clinton is gunna see to it that her house boy, Joe Lieberman, votes for her as Senate leader …I thought that might getcher attention. It ain’t too early ta get started on bringin’ Al Gore up from the reserves…we gotta stop Clinton right now!!!
Oh and Reddhedd, Freya Catherine ROCKS!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE FUCKIN’ AMMUNITION, THE NEXT BATTLE HAS JEST STARTED!!
A million thanks to all and sundry at fdl and their friends and family around the progressive world. Yes, I am gloating today. But also I am giving thanks. Not only did you all throw a snarky lifeline in our nation’s hour of deepest despair, but you fabulous folks really helped me look at politics differently — much much more critically. I am in your debt.
arc parser @ 74
Come on DNC send lawyers guns and money to VA.
Damn shame that scum like LIEberman and Corker won.
Tester’s lead just increased to 1,735 (via CNN).
Hey Norske-
Forgot to say it yesterday…BIG CONGRATULATIONS!
Love the name Freya.
NorskeFlamethrower @ 123
Right now, our bootylicious takedown in the House is 26.
Several more states are facing recounts for house races. VA and MT will assuredly have them for Senate, since I now understand that VA has CANVASS, or whatever it’s called.
But we’re looking very good this morning.
People on T.V. early this a.m. were ruminating about Hillary possibly wanting the Senate leadership gig instead of prez. Actually, I would have no serious problem with her in that arena, altho she does like acting the hawk and could very well be willing to start a war or 2 by herself, but still…
Let us all prepare to savor Clusterfuck’s presser this afternoon. Let his public meltdown begin.
Oh, and Norske: We probably have the Senate.
Chaffee, Santorum, DeWine, and Talent–GONE.
Burns and Allen most likely gone, too, pending recount.
And hopefully Burns and Allen gone too. :)
If JoMo is really in Rove’s corner he will do the deed. Rove doesn’t care about Rummy…he care’s about power and this is how he will get the last laugh.
I wouldn’t doubt that this was a deal put to JoeMo in exchange for the repuke support against Lamont.
JoMo is the trojan horse.. He will lead them into Iran.
Desparate people do desparate things.
Dems MUST investigate HARD HARD HARD.. OVERSIGHT with an electron microscope. It’s our only chance against the creeps.
LJ/Aquaria @ 132
Damn shame. I like them. Especially when Gracie gets George all caught up in stories about her relatives.
Just repeating what you said LJ.
LJ – seems Montana must have more than .4% to recount and the numbers Allen has to overcome are too great – fingers crossed – maybe no recount!
Even with dirty tricks and outright falsehoods, the GOP lost the Md governor and couldn’t claim a senate seat. Even with the rain, this is a beautiful day for the Old Line State. No more selling off the state parks to cronies. No more purging career state gov’t employees solely based on their political affiliation. No more kissing GWB’s backside.
Four years ago, we didn’t so much elect a Repub governor as we collectively voted against Townsend and it got us four UGLY years. No more. Steele tried to run primarily on the fact that he’s an African-American, not on the issues. We’re too smart to fall for that, thank goodness.
I feel like we’ve just woken up from a four year hangover.
tommy yum @ 130
will he grovel?
will he be defiant?
will he say he wants to work together?
will he first say he wants to work together and then attack the democrats?
predictions please…a short essay would be nice, take your time, will not be graded
Methinks it behooves G. Felix Allen to NOT contest the election, to concede instead.
Why? Because he’s gonna hope that if he goes quietly maybe, just maybe he can shake the FBI investigators who are breathing down his campaign’s neck.
Prof @ 98
Actually it isn’t automatic. It’s allowed if (and only if) the vote difference is less than one percent of the total vote cast, but the losing candidate still has to request it. If the difference is less than .5%, the state pays for the recount, if it’s more than that, the petitioning candidate pays for it, unless he/she wins after the recount.
Mrs. K8 @ 140
LOL
That, too. I’d forgotten about that.
Clusterfuck will be very defiant. He thinks he’s Jeebus’s Preznint. I foresee lots of semicoherent I’m the decider petulance
WOW!
Stunning!
Senate still in play- apparently Yellowstone county is going to get a total recount cause the local election guy totally fucked up the softwarw. It may be weeks before we know who won the senate- and some time after that until we know what Lieberman will do.
He would be crazy to give up a senate seat he just won for a two year gig as secretary of defense in the most hated administration in recent history- and to be the sacraficial lamb for a failed war.
We’ll see. The risk of the Lamont run all along was that dems would lose the seat- but Z hope it won’t happen.
Re Bush’s presser – it will be short, he will say he will work with dems (hahahahahaha) and hopes that the dems will work with him.
Cheney has already announced that if subpoenaed, he will NOT testify, so there. And they have the SCT to back them up. But it will be a doozy of a fight and maybe we can give them a black eye anyway.
perris @ 139
Will he say – We are workin’ fer a peeance freeance Murika?
I’m just kvelling to read what our good Freeper friends are saying about their special night:
Free Republic
…The finest in neoconservatism on the march.
;>)
Congratulations, progressive America.
And as for Joe? Welcome to 6 years of enforced recreational proctology, Senator.
The only reasonable thing for Clusterfuck to say is:
“The american people have spoken and I will work with the congress the people have elected”.
I have to share this -
“But the Republicans thought the voters would greet them as liberators…”

The canvass is really just what they call process of certification of the official results.
I’m hoping shrubya stands up this afternoon and sez, I quit! I don’t want to play any more! I’m taking my ball and going home! then he turns around and kicks Karl and Ken in the knees…
a notoriously bad loser… he will be flipping us the bird in many different ways…
Good news that both Montana and Virginia have dem governors- I don’t know about the secretaries of state. Amyone know?
This ain’t over people.
Is the FBI still investigating ALLEN for voter suppression?
I am bleary eyed but up. My wife was up most of the night and is probably going to sleep till noon. You guys are magnificant!
OK, we are out of beta, and we found out that this sucker has a nitro powered engine. The tires are still smoking, and we now have to tweak the steering and navigation system. That will come in due time.
Howie did a fantastic job of targeting, and all of you did a phenomenal [I just can’t use enough superlatives] job of on the ground work. Akk, need more coffee before I can think straight. Congrats all; back soon … more coffee.
Even if, as it looks like now, Webb is certified as the winner of Virginia, I hope he continues to pursue the complaint he filed with the DOJ. I mean, PUSH them to get to the bottom of it. Talk about democracy and the need to make our elections clean, free and fair.
Webb has all the marbles right now to make this work for the dem party – not to mention for America’s sake.
Good mornin’, Christy and pups! A quick note and then back to read the comments:
A couple races still to be settled for the Senate and a big question for Senate republicans this morning.
Huzzah! for the Democrats this morning. And salut to Ned Lamont, who led a noble fight. He is the Gene McCarthy of our times.
Senate Republicans will now have to take a sober look at this election and decide whether they–facing elections again in 2 years–want to stick with the status quo symbol of division and corruption politics or make some changes themselves to protect their vulnerable seats in the next election. Mitch McConnell–same old, same old. Or?
We’ll be watching. And planning.
But this morning, well deserved kudos to you, Christy, and Jane and Pach and TRex and All your team. Our village is strong….
Mehlman thinks the Democrats should do what the Republicans wouldn’t do–share the power in a bipartisan way to make for a better America, blah, blah, blah.
RH, Jane and Pach: this is your victory.
On To The Next Task
Not that it’s news to our leaders here, but as I see it, there are four big tasks that need to happen right away; the media narrative will start taking hold very soon:
1. Establishing that there was a mandate last night
2. Establishing that the netroots and progressives were the key to the victory
3. Preparing for challenges in VA/MT
4. The Hoyer / Murtha battle for Majority Leader
For point 1: Chris at mydd has a nice post. Let me add to it that we won the popular Senate vote by over 12 points nationally, 56.2-43.8 . I’ve not added up the House but it looks like about 54-46 nationally there. Then, as Chris notes: we shut them out in the Congress, which has never happened before; and in governorships. It’s really not possible to have a more complete victory.
For point 2: we would do well to collect all the pictures and comments of fdl’ers putting boots on the ground; every site on our side would do well to do the same. The Blue America victory rate was very high; should be compared to the DCCC rate.
For point 3: can we do anything other than raise money? (i.e. should we be thinking about pitchforks?) I think in both cases the candidates know how much the netroots meant to them early, and will appreciate seeing us support them right through their final victory. We win if there are people in the Senate who feel we were instrumental in their victories.
For point 4: we should be calling our reps today.

Recount already done, RW. They did it last night.
From the Billings Gazette:
They finished that project about an hour or so ago.
Any changes to Yellowstone’s totals now are provisionals.
How does the Authoratrian personality react to failure besides denial? I know that they assume all right thinking people think as they do conformity is the ideal. Also they project THEIR greatest fears of themselves onto their enemies (nonconformists and/or people outside their group). But outside of denial how else do they react to failure?

Ken Mehlman can kiss my ass.
This is punishment to him, because I’m a woman.
LJ–Thanks- I was apparently reading an old story.
Yes, America has had enough.
Funny story. I could not get one girl to vote although she was registered. Her polling place is 1/3 mile from work. This morning I was explaining that if there is a tie in the Senate, Dick Cheney will have to be brought in to vote. Here’s the money quote…she says, real serious, “Is he a Republican?”
Dear lord….
Well guys, I can’t say I am not disappointed that HoJoe won after so many phone calls, plus standing in the miserable rain for hours yesterday. But I do believe that the Lamont campaign brought a new awareness to CT voters. I am not going to have any schadenfreude if things turn bad with HoJoe–it sends a pit to my stomach–all that miserable thuggery during the campaign, the slush fund and general lack of principles and morality. But as I said on the Lamont blog, I think we built a grassroots movement. Everyone got to know each other and there are a lot out of progressive minded folks in CT for sure who are dissatisfied with the lies and the torture. What I and others noticed: People who voted for Ned walked out of the polls looking sprightly, whatever the age. People who probably voted for Liarman slinked out of the polls. Viva Ned!
LJ/Aquaria @ 142
BTW, I had two people just among my twenty or so precinct volunteers who’d gotten hit by the repeat-robocall dirty trick.
At the top of Atrios’ site he has this one simple comment:
To Montana Election Officials, Cheney is nearby and he is armed.
Laughed out loud until the cat went into the other room.
Independents, women, and young people went Democratic according to George Steph.
I waited until this morning to find out the results of yesterday’s election. At 8 a.m. I turned on NPR, and I cried… Out of relief, out of gratitude, out of sheer joy… The nightmare is finally over. We can finally start taking our country back.
Sally @ 168
Staph–Master of the Obvious.
did that yucky Marilyn Musgrove lose in CO?
oh, I hope so!
I remeber some commenters saying firedoglake and a few other liberal blogs were banned from our troops in Iraq the maybe Christy can talk to Nancy about getting this problem fixed!
lol Mrs. K-8 at@26. We need to buy Christy some little kittie bloggie jamas.
1,326 dayz and the killin jest goez on and on and…
Citizen K8:
What a wonderful mornin’ now that yer in it…I think your analysis of Allen in Virginia is spot on. Furthermore, I think that the institutional response of the FBI and the professionals in the Justice Dept durin’ this election cycle has exposed a split in the governing institutions that may very well save our democracy not unlike the dynamic that got rid of Tricky Dick Nixon. Towit…the FBI and Justice Dept as well as the career CIA have all showen up to stop fascist extra-electoral and extra-legal advances. I don’t think that Rove and the oligarcy have enough control of any of the policing elements in government to cover the corruption anymore or to steal elections in broad daylight.
You are right…we haven’t seen the last of the fascist scandals, voter fraud and suppression are gunna bump Republican pedophiles from the headlines. I jest hope the Democratic leadership wakes up and makes election protection and vote-security an issue…time for another Voting Rights Act!
And K8, didja hear about the new Norske feminst, her name is Freya Catherine and she’s 8lbs and more’n an ounce now…grandkids ROCK!!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND DON’T LET THE BASTARDS UP!!
“How does the Authoratrian personality react to failure besides denial?”
ANSWER: they cheat lie, steal to get what they want.
before everyone exhales, you better step up to save the senate. republicans don’t go down easy – if there is an opportunity to steal the senate, rove and his minions will surely create it/take it.
Good Morning All,
I am so happy, so relieved, and so grateful.
THANK You Jane, Christy, Pach, Trex, Howie, and all you wonderful rabid patriots!
Does anyone know how Rodriguez made out?
Can you spell F R O G M A R C H ????
Go Blue and good morning everybody! I awoke to a beautiful sight this morning, and the battle to take back our country has been won. But Joey’s victory lap is gonna be painful.
Eat shit and die you Republican cowards! How did that one taste?
Christy,
FWIW, you looked great on CNN last night. What a big night. Claire McCaskill’s victory was especially sweet. I’m looking for major movement on stem cell legislation next year. Looks like we may have the votes to override a veto.
An important message that we should be sending that the corporate-owned media is not sending:
THE 50-STATE STRATEGY WORKED.
The punditocracy and the DLC’rs and the still-entrenched Beltway and old-school state party powergods have yet to admit this.
Howard Dean was our lightning rod, the man who reminded us that we had the power to take our country back.
The man who told us we exercise that power in our own backyards, in our neighborhoods, all across these 50-states.
Howard took his orders from US, the grassroots, when he chose to be the candidate for DNC chair; he could easily have saved his fire for a 2008 race or to start a third party, both options having been viable in the dark days of November 2004. But he heeded our advice, took on the mantle of servant-leader to the REAL Democratic Party, the rank-and-file membership out here and not the Beltway.
We owe an enormous debt to the man who sacrificed his own personal ambitions to help us empower ourselves to take back our country.
Thank you eternally, Howard Dean.

The young Democrats are especially good news. When I voted, a young man was told he couldn’t vote because he wasn’t registered. I had to wonder how he would have voted.
…and just two days ago, this headline would have either been from the Twilight Zone or The Onion:
South Dakota rejects tough abortion law
Ariz. won’t ban gay marriage; Mo. OKs measure backing stem cell research
Senator Tester
Senator Webb
Senator McCaskill
Senator Casey
Senator Brown
Senator Whitehouse
Senate Majority Leader Reid
New thread, gang.

Regarding Imus, I saw him on MSNBC for the first time this morning. My god, what in god’s name is going on with him. He looked like he had died and his wife had him stuffed for the social security check every month. And that hat! He was sitting in front of a dias decked out in patriotic pastels. Someone needs to lay him down.

IF Dems all vote together and IF we can get enough Republicans to join in. Takes about 290 votes in the house to override, and 67 in the Senate. If I remember my civics right.
Now that’s funny maddogs. “
For those who wish to do a wee bit more…ummm…gloating, now’s probably the very best time to visit those sites inhabited by our dearly departed. *g*
You know, the places like Little Green Falafels or “We’ve Lost Power”line.
This morning at work, I was daydreaming. The daydream morphed into a fantasy. Ostensibly the fantasy was nonsexual but then as the sheer beauty of the fantasy washed over me it came right to the verge of sexual in the feeling it induced. The fantasy? Well, it starts with the fact that Pelosi is the first woman Speaker of the House in US history. I was imagining the wondrous investigations to come and, at first, angerly thinking about Pelosi’s pre-election declarations that “impeachment is off the table”. This thought then became focused on this fact: sometimes the decision isn’t under anyone’s real control.
Let us say that the forthcoming investigations uncover so much illegality on the part of the Administration, top to bottom, that it is well nigh impossible to NOT impeach. Not just impeach Bush, but also Cheney. I have no doubt that there IS sufficient illegal and unconstitutional conduct to be found that this is feasible. Pelosi, in spite of her declaration would be forced to oversee an impeachment of both Bush and Cheney. BOOM! Another historic first! A President AND Vice President impeached and removed from office! But wait! There’s more! From THIS historic first comes yet another historic first: Pelosi becomes the first woman president of the United States.
A confluence of historical threads come together and weave, beyond the control of any one person, a fantastic historic tapestry that puts Pelosi at the core of the biggest historical storm in our nation’s history. First Speaker of the House, first to impeach a Prez and VP, and the first woman president.
A guy can (and will) fantasize. Wont you all join me for a moment?
rwcole @ 152
Secretary of State isn’t an elected position in Virginia, and isn’t in charge of elections. The three-member State Board of Elections is in charge, and I believe they are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the legislature. So we’re okay there.
Possibly the worst moment in Allen’s non-concession speech last night (and there were plenty — it’s hard to find a single sentence in it that wasn’t the height of hypocrisy) was his repeated references to the fact that the Republican Attorney General was there, clearly implying that if this went to litigation, the refs would be on his side. To his credit, the AG stayed out of sight, and when Allen on-camer kept “looking” for him, and eventually someone whispered something to Allen and he had to admit that the AG was “in the back” (behind the curtains.)
DefJef @ 134
Someone mentioned last night that if indictments come down (and we know some are pending) against a Rep Sen, then all Rove/Liebermann sneakiness goes to shit. Are there likely Senators that this could happen to?
Pssst…hot stock tip…sell Haliburton short…and Bechtel…and Blackwater…and oh btw, Exxon-Mobil, BP, and any other Oil thingies.
Pssst…another hot tip…buy Defense Attorneys…demand exceeds supply.
Subpoenas, big tax bites and jail-time heading their way pronto.
Norske, my dear patriot friend!
What happy news about Freya Catherine! Your first grandchild?
Thank you for telling me. Today we’ve gotten new life for the country with this election — but you’ve also got new life in the family to nurture, and that will always make your work to save the Republic even MORE meaningful than before.
Congratulations to you and your whole family — especially little Freya Catherine. I’m sending love and prayers of gratitude in your direction.
Halliburton (nyse: HAL – news – people ), Wal-Mart (nyse: WMT – news – people ) and other companies Democrats believe are bilking taxpayers or workers will be hauled before Congress. Executive compensation and hedge funds will come under fire.
“There will be a much greater antipathy to corporate interests to getting their way in the lobby process,” argues Robert Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for America’s Future, an outside group that works on behalf of Democratic candidates.
Democrats won’t hesitate to pass legislation that is headed for a presidential veto as long as it sharpens the distinction between them and Bush.
Straight out of the gate, a Democratic Congress will repeal tax breaks for the oil and gas industry, raise the minimum wage and hand the federal government the power to haggle with drug companies on behalf of Medicare beneficiaries.

Don’t forget the signing statements. He seems to think he can change a law to mean whatever he wants to say it means, and there’s no check or balance to his statement. Who needs Congress?
I just saw Tom Delay on MSNBC and boy does he look beat!!! It was utterly delicious. He whined and bitched and proclaimed his innocence of everything. But he demeanor was like he had just been beaten on the head with a baseball bat.
Wheee!
It’s a great start, for sure! And I want to add something on the Lamont vs. Lie-berman race in CT.
The calling out of Lieberman and really stopping him would have had to come from the top, the party leadership, it didn’t. Even so, Ned came in very strong and the party leaders have hurt themselves for their fecklessness, believe me.
The Dems LOST a seat in the Senate with their asshat strategy of not supporting Ned and dissing Lieberman. Joey is an Independent and a very untrustworthy one at that. If you want to see a real independent who will caucus with the Dems when it counts, look at Bernie Sanders of VT.
As for CT, it really has to look itself in the mirror after putting that shit Lieberman back in power. I know a lot of Dems voted for Ned, but enough also voted for Lieberman. Still, my real hopes out of all this are:
* Ned stays in Dem politics, shaping the party in CT.
* Lieberman turns more into Emperor Palpatine, or goes down in flames on campaign fraud, and CT goes even bluer the next round.
There is a positive from CT Senate race, and it is not Lieberman!!
And a very very huge standing ovation to Howie Klein. Howie may have been the difference. Thank you Howie!!
Holy Crap! I almost forgot what it felt like to win, not to mention kick ass. Aside from the red in blue clothing LIEberman, everything’ss coming up roses. I just can’t stop singing!
