CNN and CBS call it for Joe Lieberman. As Kos says, both the White House and warmongers everywhere rejoice.
But the wave of Democratic victory that is happening across the country would not be happening if the Lamont campaign did not step forward and change the narrative for Democrats. Despite the fact that Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and Bill and Hillary Clinton planted a big, fat knife in Lamont's back and sneered at Democratic voters, the the blue victories that are happening are a direct result of this battle. The genie came out of the bottle and they could not put it back in.
It was a damn good fight and I'm proud to have been a part of it.

I hope Reid and Co. show Joe the door.
ROOTZ!
Lamont was a catalyst. The fight goes on.
What are the numbers?
Ahhhh!!! NOOOO!!!!
I’m not willing to concede. The numbers are small.
Jane, you and all the FDL’ers rock. No regrets!
Lieberman is still a loser.
Isn’t it a little too early to call? I am wishful and hopeful. If indeed it is so, I will be very sad. What are these people thinking? or not…
In any case, CT needs a good Democratic Governor!
Howard Dean!!!
And many, many are proud with you … even though you may not know who we are, we are here with you shoulder to shoulder and we will not surrender now.. no way.
Don’t throw in the towel on Ned yet. Remember that the projections are based on your standard 2-party race algorithm. The race for CT is nothing like a standard one.
I’m gonna give that one a couple of hours before I concede, personally.
Democrat John Yarmuth has knocked off Anne Northup here in Louisville (KY-3). Yarmuth is a true liberal and will make a great representative for those of us in Louisville. Just wanted to spread the word that it’s official.
Hell Jane, a part of it?
You carried the damn flag.
Damn! Now we will have to find out what Joe promised the Republicans in exchange for their millions. Big thanks, though, to everyone who worked so hard for Ned. Your work is making the difference across the country tonight.
The courant update has Ned at 46.62 and Lieberman at 44.36%
I’m still going to hold out that this isn’t done yet. Joe has just been so … undeserving of this. If it was found out for example that he did buy votes or intimidate voters… what then?
It ain’t over til it’s over.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/f…..N=POLITICS
I’m not conceding either. Last numbers i saw were 47/45 Lieberman. I’ll wait till there all counted.
Even if stripping Joe of his seniority and Committees causes him to bolt and turn the Senate the the repubs that will mean that the Dems have the strength to filibuster any more Alitos, if they have the spine.
If it makes it 50 – 50 with Cheney holding the decider, then the same as above.
If the Dems have it outright and Joe Lierman can be cast overboard, so much the better. He is genuinely a disgusting creature and the Dems ought to make plain they will not suck up to him.
Gaaaaaa
the rest looks great!!!!!
ROOTS
No worries. Let’s make Joe suffer when we take the fucking Senate.
We have only begun.
At the very least, we need to get Webb close enough for a recount.
DO NOT GIVE UP YET. It ain’t over til it’s over, and this one ain’t over.
Valley Girl @ 18
Link above is to Courant site. Maybe Jane has some inside info from the Lamont campaign, but the are still a lot of precincts unreported where Ned won in the primary.
VA is a nail-biter
Precincts Reporting: 2050 of 2443 (83.91%)
Registered Voters: 4,555,751 Total Voting: 1,897,638 Voter Turnout: 41.65 %

J H Webb Jr Democratic 933,605 49.20%
Ned’s giving his concession speech soon. I’ll be on Air America at 9:45 ET and Christy is going to be on CNN soon being interviewed with Abbi.
Jane, you fought the good fight. And I agree that the Lamont movement was of-a-piece with a national surge against the Republicans and how they’ve damaged our country.
Nice try Ned. Lieberman will walk and quack like a lame duck for the rest of his political career thanks to you.
Rob Zuber @

He’s at .4 What’s the margin there?
Jane,
You have so much to be proud of and we all stand in awe of how much of an impact this Lamont effort has had and you played a major part in leading.
That being said, this blog has benefits over the days of the”Dewey Defeats Truman” printing press… you can
striketroughand republish if necessary!-Monk
I saw somebody call Maryland for Cardin (D).
Things are going terrific so far.
CNN’s site has only 10% reporting and Ned’s ahead-
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/20…..states/CT/
Telling numbers from Connecticut exit poll
WHO DO YOU WANT TO CONTROL SENATE?
Democrats-58%
Republicans-27%
Does Not Matter-14%
Of those who want the GOP to control (27%), 76% voted for Lieberman and 19% for Schlesinger (5% Lamont?).
Of those who wanted the Democrats to control (58%), Lamont wins 68% to 27% (3 for Schlesinger?).
If you are a calculating Republican, you butter your bread w/Joe. No matter where he claims he will caucus, Republicans trust their “control” over him.
I’m still waiting for the last vote on this one.
cl
I’m still going to hold the towel for us all here.
At the very least, Ned should make Joe wait until the last precinct is counted before conceding.
Goddammit! But Ned lit a fire, and you helped him, Jane. You did a lot to make this night possible.
I wouldn’t concede, either.
Folks, hang in there. There is always one upset.
That aside, it is looking damn good.
-GSD
You fought the good fight. Rock on. It made a difference in the rest of the country even if CT is lost.
Jane- is conceding based on Lamont campaign tallies? the AP stuff at the Courant obviously gives a more hopeful picture.
“But the wave of Democratic victory that is happening across the country would not be happening if the Lamont campaign did not step forward and change the narrative for Democrats. “
I really liked this comment and agree wholeheartedly. It shows us how much better off we will be if Lieberman bolts. I really hope he does.
congrats firepups… the race is long and this is one part of it.
keep fighting.
NED: NO Concessions. RE-COUNT. We’ll hit the streets for you.
Dammmm. O well.
I love the good energy here at FDL.
Hill, Bill, Schumer, Reid. I will NOT forget. You got that Hillary? The objectives are clear.
Ned, pleeease don’t concede till all the votes are in
Looks like RI just dumped Chafee
On a happy note.
Am sitting here in Vermont watching Bernie Sanders give a knock out victory speech excoriating Bush/Cheney and the corrupt GOP bastards running the Congress and telling the crowd this election is about voters demanding that the troops come home now.
cl
We can hold out hope that it’s not over till it’s over.
But regardless … the netroots are pumped and Bill Bennett is bloviating and not making sense, and we’re going to keep growing. This is the beginning.
And Ned is always going to be a hero to us. He’s certainly a hero to me. I hope he’s Senator-Elect Hero, but regardless he’s been a tremendous inspiration.
Valley Girl @

that’s only with 10% of the pcts. sorrrrrrryyyyyyyy
I’m in the blogger room at Lamont HQ. Needless to say the mood is not what it was in August!
Why? I simply do not understand why Ned is about to concede. Let all the votes be counted, d*mn it! Aaaarrrggghhhhhh.
It was the good fight, and it was the right fight. Your energy meant a lot–this blog pulses with your commitment, and you brought it to Connecticut. It turned heads in a big, big way. Forward!
Well bennett just said LIeberman was for the war in Iraq. That will surprise lots of connecticut voters I suppose. So somehow that means the war is popular somehow.
In short, I really don’t understand why he is conceding so early.
hcethatsme @

Kind words and deeply appreciated.
You don’t go from a Rubber Stamp Republic to a fully accountable House and Senate in one election. Bill and Hillary and Chuck have painted themselves into a corner. I don’t think they – and Rahm Emmanuel – understand that something is changing that they can’t control.
As for Joe — “keep your friends close, your enemies even closer.” And we should make darned sure that Lieberman’s colleagues in the Senate understand that we are watching them w/r/t their actions.
VA Senate again

Note that Webb would be in really good shape right now without that bottom result.

Who wants to answer “yes” to the following question?
Have you ever voted for a pedophile?
What malacandra said.
Joe hasn’t earned any kind of respect from Ned, make him wait for every last vote to be properly counted before he gets a concession. No reason to rush it.
aah tonight, so sweet sour…
RevDEb- okay- is this based on internal Lamont info?
Looks as though the Republicans turned out for Lieberman….38% Republicansas compared to 26% Democrats voting for Lieberman. Lieberman didn’t get elected by Dems, he was elected by Republicans.
Just goes to show how far the loyalists will goosestep to the rhythm of the cowboy march.
Court Challenge! Nothing is over unless we say its over! we may lose but we have long memories big pharma you are on notice Socialized Medicine, Halbitron and the war proffiteers we are going to not only pull out of Iraq we are going to cancel your big contacts in favor of spending the money on bullet proof vests and armoured humvees you know things we should have had before the war. Exxon from now on only oil taxes will pay for the military!
No concessions! We need Ned!
Fitz?
right now….Lamont 46 lieberman 45
Lamont was the catalyst for everything that is happening. IT WAS WAY WORTH IT.
It’s too early for a concession speech.
I hope Ned waits until more of the precincts are in. Every vote counts.
It is not over… I refuse to accept that and I hope Ned doesn’t either until the last vote is counted. The Liebs belongs on the bottom of my shoe like so much toadie poop.
Those numbers are WAAAAYYY too close for concession!
If you have his ear, Jane, beg him to hold on a while!!!!!!
It ain’t over til it is over!!!! Lets hope that Ned will still pull this out. It all depends on how many voles Alan gets.
Please don’t concede, Ned. WAIT!!! Let the votes be counted.
NO, NED, DON’T CONCEDE!!!!!!!!
I’ve been at the VA site so much, I know when I’m about to get some new numbers. Can we say “hang time?”
I knew that you could.
Data as soon as this frickin page opens.
Valley Girl @ 62
It’s based on the counts coming in—reported pcts.
I’d love to be able to give you all more hope, but it’s not happening here :-(
Ned no giving up!
Concede? With 10% of votes counted? I don’t get it.
Webb may be running out of time, but calling CT for Lieberman looks to be very premature. What, did Joedeo call in a favor or something?
Look, you gave it a good shot. But it could be worse. We’re winning in lots of places tonight. The party is just beginning. Speaker Pelosi soon. Maybe Majority Leader Reid, too.
Jane Hamsher @ 26
That would be a big mistake. His supporters deserve better.
I hope Lamont to holds off on the concession for a bit longer. Check out http://tinyurl.com/ylft77
No shit, can you imagine the play by play guy calling it for the team he thinks is gonna win in the middle of the 4th quarter?
Shall we start taking bets, as to when Holy announces that he’s caucusing with the R’s?
Okay, I’ll start the odds: TONIGHT. “What??? He lied???”
You know, if we do not take the Senate, I sincerely hope he does caucus with the Republicans! No, I mean it. It will mean nothing that there’s one more R, but the good citizens of CT who voted for their precious “moderate Dem” will be mighty steamed that they got played. That will be worth watching.
And they have earned the privilege. And when their sons, fathers, husbands, wives, girlfriends are sent over to, but don’t come back from, That Place… I do not want to see so much as one tear from Lieberman-voting families. Tonight, they’ve forfeited those.
In every way, these people will reap what they’ve sowed. My honor and admiration to all you CT citizens who worked so hard to make this atrocity right. Have faith that in the end, it will all somehow balance out.

Looks the VA site is getting hammered.
Thanks for reporting on this race from the very start. You’re right — the blue wave started in CT.
There would have been no GOP investment required in Connecticut were it not for NED LAMONT. Without NED, the War Party had a walk in Connecticut — and the War Party had a majority in the Senate.
Plus an enabler on Faux News.
In that regard, Democrats in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey ( and stay tuned ) have NED LAMONT to thank for his investment in opposition to the status quo.
Without Ned’s time, energy, and heart, we would have a GOP Senate. Now that depends on RGJoe’s conscience.

RagingGurrl @ 80
AMEN!
Fern @ 77
There’s more than 40% reported.
that’s gonna be one painful victory lap by that piece of shit Lieberman.
Just watched Yarmuth’s eloquent victory speech. He’ll walk the walk. My heart could burst.
DO NOT CONCEDE, NED!! IT IS TOO EARLY!!!
Nate @ 87
Yeah, I echo that, and WTF, I’m gonna make a zig.
DebCT -
If Ned’s staff hears the bloggers, I hope they’ll hear how important it is for Ned to be patient tonight.
The progressives and netroots who have pulled out all the stops for Ned need to see it mattered.
For Ned to pull a Kerry and concede early will demoralize so many Ned has inspired.
I hope Ned will wait to decide until at least the majority of precincts are counted.
Republicans will not concede any close races without a fight. Democrats must not concede early. No one can rightfully fault them for sticking it out. Showing some backbone will be respected. In retrospect, everybody was upset with Kerry for his early concession.
Here’s what I wrote:
He voted for torture. Joe Lieberman is going to be the power-broker of the Democratic senate, if I am not mistaken. Joe could defect to the Republicans, after all he is an independent (Vanity) senator now. And if the split is 49 Republicans plus Lieberman then Dick Cheney breaks ties and the Republicans keep power. So watch the Democratic party give Lieberman whatever he wants to caucus.
And I will say then what needs to be said, but for now it is speculation until the rest of the results are reported, which may have little or nothing to do with how people actually voted.
I’m going with the Woodford Reserve. It’s gonna taste gooooood.
Kentucky Woman @ 90
Funny that a “blue” state gives him a landslide in “religious/church goers”, where everywhere else in red states, etc they voters who attend church are rejecting the Republicans and their values.
Its to bad, its a bit odd. But I guess Republicans smelled a victory since they knew some Dems (~30% would stay with Joe loser).
70% or Republican voters, and I guess most independents.
Is it true that Lamont is conceeding? I want to know why also. Haven’t we all had enough of these goddamn losers that throw away an election before all the votes are counted? What is the advantage of conceeding? Am I missing something?
Please, please, please do not concede. Wait until New Haven and the other big ones come in….
Let us believe for a little while longer…. even if you won’t.
As a general lurker I once de-lurked here to ask if all the Democrats HAD SWORN NOT TO CONCEDE UNTIL ALL THE VOTES WERE COUNTED. I can’t believe Ned is doing it! WTF, 40% is only 40%!!! I just don’t get it.
Something smells on 99
Can someone help me with this wrt the Senate? Dems have won OH,PA and RI. If we take MT, VAorTN, MD, MO, that’s SEVEN. I think that puts Dems at 52. That really limits Lieberman4Lieberman’s leverage.
Wow. Look at all the concern trolls and why didn’t you put energy into someone who had even a bigger snowball’s chance in hell than Lamont trolls.
Webb now only about 5200 behind with 85% reporting.
Cleanup on aisle 91…?
do not quote trolls, please
NED!
Don’t conceed until all the hard numbers are in! Please–you’ve still got a shot!
New Jersey loves you!!
C-Span’s AP results showed:
Lamont 30,449 47%
Lieb. 28,973 44%
With an X next to Lieberman. With Lamont leading how is it they called it for Lieberman? Why is there no questioning of this call?
You on the scene, please tell Ned not to concede. Wait for the count. Anything within the exit poll’s MoE, DEMAND A RECOUNT! I don’t mean to yell, but we should hang on until the votes are actually counted.
you go girl!

How ’bout publishing the IP address of Gene at 100?

Neither acknowledge nor “Quote” them please, ‘pups.
Alert time at hand.
Don’t feed. Don’t engage.
Why do they concede? Why did John Kerry concede?

Tryst coming up on CNN!

This sucks. In CT, they haven’t even come close to reporting on half the precincts.
