Even in the battleground states, they overlooked a ton of districts that are viable races despite them. Can’t wait to see Mean Jean go down in flames. Ditto Marilyn Musgrave.

If it were always about policy, the Republicans would have withered up and died, long ago. They haven’t had a viable policy platform in 30 years. They did have a formidable infrastructure and plenty of money. That has been enough to carry them across the finished line, hobbled and bleeding.

The Dems have had the policy down cold during that same time, but they had a woeful infrastructure and a shaky fundraising system. I’m sorry, but you cannot win elections on policy alone. If today we had continued to concentrate on the battle-ground strategy and letting our platform stand for itself, if we didn’t have the netroots, this party would be DOA in this election. We would have lost seats, not gained, no matter how exalted and popular our policies.

For pity’s sake, the American public consistently has long polled in favor of every single Democratic domestic issue, in overwhelming numbers, and we could not win. When massive support of policies is not resulting in election victories, you have to examine why. The most obvious answer is the answer.

this weekend i met some other grassroots volunteers. i think i’m gonna agree to become a precinct chair. i bet i can find the time to get the libs and moderates in my neighborhood to stir some more.

i met three women who pooled their resources to run ‘together’ for two state house seats and one state senate seat. they were wonderful – just regular folks who got tired of politics as usual and decided to take a stand. While studying my sample ballot i realized that there wasn’t a democrat running for the state house in MY district. I’m seriously thinking that I should take a stand and run in MY district for the state house.

and when it’s time for food hit Diner, Mezze, or Meskerem – and down Columbia to the West there’s some pretty decent Salvadoreno and since it is a political night you really ought to check out Chief Ike’s (as in Eisenhower) Mambo Room (assuming it’s open) on Columbia East of 18th – I think – sorry don’t live up that way these days…

They’re not losing today b/c they couldn’t raise enough money, they’re losing b/c their incompetent and their policies don’t represent a majority viewpoint.

And the grassroots isn’t powerful b/c it can outraise the repugs, it’s powerful b/c it got people interested in what they’re gov’t is doing in their name and getting them to care.

Even if repugs had limitless funds, they’d still be losing b/c fundamentally (no pun intended), they don’t represent a good majority of the public, and the public now knows that.

People here in Washington are either elated or dazed/confused/angry, depending on their party. It’s a funny turn of events. At least I find it amusing. The chattering class is going to have to find a new spin for their fairy tales.
