Okay, I won't pretend I'm not bitterly disappointed that lying evil worm Joe Lieberman managed to pull a win out of his ass. We all worked so hard together to try and push Lamont over the top, and we came very close. Now we have six more years of Holy Joe's sanctimonious ass on the Hill doing everything he can to undermine real Democrats and spread his poison like some kind of Amazonian toad. Hell, he'll probably push through the Stevens bill just to be the hateful bitch we know that he is. Dwarf troll from hell. Little trail of cat-sick. If the balance of power in the Senate actually goes to the Dems, he'll probably cross the aisle and declare himself a Republican. I wouldn't be surprised. Would you?
The Senate is still up in the air at the time of this writing (11:55 EST), but I am peeing myself with joy that we took the fucking House. And we all know what that means. Let's say it together, shall we?
SPEAKER PELOSI!!
SPEAKER PELOSI!!
SPEAKER PELOSIIIIIII!!!
Suck it, Reich Wingers!! Cos now that means we'll have some real honest-to-god oversight in Washington. Subpoena powers! Go, John Conyers!! Give em hell!!
Here at Tryst, the cigars have been lit and an air of boozy conviviality is reigning. I've strapped on my over-the-ear headphones so I can concentrate on my message to you kids. It's been a roller-coaster week. I can't believe that tomorrow will only have been a week since I came out on this mission. It seems like a million things have happened. I was telling my Dad and step-mom about voting last Monday and I had to stop myself because I was describing it as two weeks ago, then I realized it was only a week.
I was just on CNN pipeline talking about Blue America and the tremendous headway progressives have made just in the last few weeks. Pinch me. Is this real? This is the first Demcratic House since 1994. Ohhhhh, it's going to be a whole new world in Washington. I hope and pray we can take the Senate as well, but I could go home now and feel like we've accomplished enough to make it worth the price of admission.
So, take a bow, gentle readers. You've all been a part of this, whether you've donated time, money, encouragement, or pumpkin muffins. (Thanks, egregious!! They were delicious, and a huge hit tonight. I ate three.)
Gawd, my brain is melting and flowing out of my ears. When I get home, I'm going to sleep for a week. I can't wait to see my kitties. I know they're probably missing me as much as I miss them.
Once again, I want to thank everyone who contributed to this trip. One day maybe I can find a way to repay you all for all the great things you've done for me and for this blog. I was talking to Abbi Tatton for Pipeline and she asked me for the quick and dirty story of FDL and how I came to be one of the gang. I told her about how I was a blogger in 2003 at the outset of the Iraq War and how blogging at that time was basically an extension of Right Wing Talk Radio and how after a couple of years I rode into the blogging sunset with one middle finger raised behind me and swore that I was through with Blogistan forever. Through! DONE! FUCK 'EM!!
And then in the fall of 2005, I came to the shores of the Lake.
"Oh, my god," I thought, "I'm NOT crazy! There's people who feel just like me! Oh, thank god."
I hung out in the comments section and then during Yearly Kos, Jane handed me the mic and said, "You're on, kid!" and the rest, as they say, is hysteria.
But even then, I couldn't have predicted how utterly thrilling my life would become as the result of my involvement with FDL. I mean, I'm not the kind of guy who does these things, who charges off to other parts of the country at the drop of a hat and meets new people and does things I've never done before. It may seem like small potatoes to many of you, but this is a whole new person who's walking around in my shoes to me. It's nothing short of a miracle. I'm a deeply lazy man who haaaaates to get off the sofa, but not anymore. I'm a world-travelling, jet-setting famous writer. And that's all because of you guys.
So, once more, I have to thank you. And you, Jane, Christy, and Pach. You're my angels. You're helping me become a braver, better, stronger man. This blog has changed my life, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Okay, I'm getting a little verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves.
Good night.

Yes, LJ/A, but MY congresswoman is TEH SPEAKER
There are some disappointments, but there are some real joys in this evening. I guess some bitter to make the sweet all the sweeter.
I’m so glad I decided to read a book through most of the evening. The election suspense would have given me a coronary by now otherwise.
Now, you have to make Lierman’s life HELL.
Investigate him first. You can get rid of him before six years if you can put the fucker in jail.
The commentary and analysis here on the Va race has been great! Not only damn interesting, it was right on the mark. Is there anyone here that has that kind of nuts and bolts information on MO?
McCaskill ahead says who?
Missouri says:

I’ve gotta move back to the Bay Area.
I mentioned Nancy to my husband the other day, and do you know what that shit did? Tilted his head to the side and said: Pelosi? Nancy Pelosi? Is she from San Francisco?” (My husband is NOT political at all).
I was like, “DUH! Of course she is! You grew up there, why don’t you know?”
“Oh. I just didn’t know she was that powerful. She was always so ordinary.”
“Huh?”
“Oh, her husband’s family and my grandparents were friends. They used to attend the same church…”
I wanted to slap him.

Testaroo’s got it down now for MO. :)
Warn a person before closing a thread, willya?LOL
hey TRex – Joe’s gettin’ kinda old… you never know what might happen to an old guy like him…
Tee those subpoenas high, and let them fly!

Is anyone else incredibly surprised we haven’t been hearing reports of machine fraud? or would that take a day or two to come out?
Mark my words. Tomorrow morning, Schumer, Emmanuel and Reid will claim total credit for these big Dem victories!

I’ve got VA, MO and MT going now. I’m nuts…
And we are soooo glad that TRex is here!
HEAR HEAR!!!
But . . . . does Ned the fighting koi have a week-long fish feeder pellet????
So, have the VA poll worksers gone to bed? No more updates tonight? Same with MO?
Looks like Tester is maintaining a solid lead.
I noticed the t.v. calling MO for Talent while the percentage was only 1% and mucho vote to count. I wonder why they’d do that when we’ve been hearing forever that it’s 50-50? Oh well, they’ve been wrong about almost all their calls so far. Remember, “The race is tightening!”?
Woo hoo!
I don’t know TN politics. Is it truly possible they’re calling that one for Corker too early?
The blue tsunami is sweeping over the House and I have to say Nancy Pelosi was truly beaming tonight. It’s a great House victory.
Now we wait for the slower results and close races to sort out.
Where the hell is Webb??????
get out there and decare victory
Lets not forget what a nice new shiny item this evening represents on KKKarl Rove’s CV.
LJ/Aquaria @ 1
My hat is off to you. You have been doing a GREAT job of keeping us all on top of VA. Thanks so much!!!
First subpoena I’d like to see, a small one:
A full listing of Cheney’s staff.
People would be incredulous that it’s now known now, and he’d look even more ridiculous if he fought it.
Betcha Bushboy’s asleep thru all this!
What’s the direct MT link?
Wait for it on McCaskill. According to CNN’s county-by-county breakdown, most of urban Kansas City has yet to come in, and she should take it by a wide margin. Most of the rural precincts are already in, which is Talent’s base.
I have mixed feelings about Tennessee. I wanted to see Corker lose, and I didn’t. But I also wanted to see Ford lose, so at least I got that. Frankly, if we take the Senate without Ford, that would be my almost-ideal scenario. (The ideal scenario was taking the Senate without Ford or Lieberman.)
Jane Hamsher @ 20
I did. And Christy screamed it with me!
Gah. Watching Olberman and that… entity sitting next to him all night and seeing the difference in style and classiness is making me a bit queasy. I keep thinking of the commentators in the movie Best in Show.
Neener neener neener can’t steal a landslide…

Sorry to intrude with a simple, but possible stupid question….but I kept hearing about how many people voted absentee or advance voting. Are those votes already included in the vote counts that we are seeing? Or do they need to be added yet?
Virginia is not in the bag. Missouri is far from it right now.
EvilDrPuma: We can, and we will ! The power of the grassroots!
Thanks, Jane and Christy!
Election lawyers, try this on for size:
Dems win Missouri and Montana, giving them 50 US Senators.
Republicans are limited to 49.
Virginia race goes through a recount and a slight, squeaking victory goes to (either candidate), but (opposing party’s) lawyers contest it in court, holding up the certification to the Clerk of the US Senate.
All other US Senate elections are certified. Then we get to this:
Article I, section 5, of the US Constitution:
The Senate, lacking a Senator from Virginia, votes 50-49 to recognize Webb.
The case races up to the US Supreme Court and guess what they would do . . . .
PS, was that the back of your head, Redd?

Prof – that would work, but I’m guessing the Senate would use the currently sitting Senate, wouldn’t they?
Watching CNN. They keep saying how divided the country is. But look at all of the seats the Dems picked up in the house. And with the seats decided in the Senate, what is the percent of people represented by the Dems 48 seats vs. the Repugs 49 seats? Must be over 60% of the population. That is not so divided to me.

Jane-
I imagine you’re way ahead of me on this, bu I wonder if you wouldn’t do well to go through the comments over the past month or so and collect all the examples of people going out and working on the ground. Even better if you can collect pix from folks. It would be good for Blue Army morale to collect it all in one place, and it would also be good for building a portfolio that you can use to make the case to Democratic leadership that blogs like yours really have the power to put boots on the ground, and made special contributions to the victory tonight.
Anything that gives them reason to listen to you is something we should do.
Holy cow! I must type reaaaaalllly slow!

There is no way Rahm and Chuck are going to pass on any credit for this win.
The one, overriding reason, for them to be gone.
After tonight, there are a lot of progressive people who deserve a long, hot soak. While they are at it, think about the real effectiveness of the DNCC in this election. Then pat yourselves on the back, knowing you did far more for Democracy this past year than the establishment did. The old paradigm is no more. Just ask Karl.

Hours ago, Tweety mentioned Sen. Kohl (D-WI). I think Tweety is pretty intimidated, because he tried to squeeze in that Kohl owns the Milwaukee “Bulls”. In Virginia, Fairfax County – Central Absentee Precinct (C011) is not yet reporting. That precinct had 23,808 votes in 2004 Pres race. It went 54-45 in favor of Kerry.
Turnout in the other two Fairfax County absentee precincts is down 50% so we shouldn’t count on more than 14,000 voters there in CO11. The Dems gained 4-6 percentage points in the other two absentee districts this year. That could be nice for Webb.
Additionally, Richmond city precinct 0212 still isn’t reporting. It ought to be good for 175-200 votes for Webb.

Ned won. And thank you so much for our victory tonight.
Lieberman is done. Lieberman’s entire political schtick depended on his public piety and his helicopter politics (hovering above the fray). But the only reason he got any airplay with his act, is that he was a Demorcrat siding with Republicans – in a Republican owned world. Lamont ended Joe’s mock Democrat bit. Joe’s an elected offical of a party of one, Connecticut for Himself. Republic operatives can’t use him for bipartisan cover, and we can form an effective opposition.

They need the illusion of a horse race to (1) excite you and keep you tuned in so you don’t click over to a game show or Laker game or bit of drama/comedy fluff, and (2) keep the advertisers and corporate management happy. Gotta stay neutral, that’s the name of the media’s game, so you can pitch ads to everyone and anyone, and you don’t catch shit at the shareholder’s meeting.

Webb’s claiming victory. Good for him, don’t let Allen frame the debate.
Webb looks wiped out.
Webb on MSNBC
We WON!@!@!!!!!!!!
Kerrist, cnn cut away from webb after one sentance, after letting Allen ramble on and on. Fortunatly the one sentence Webb managed before being cut was “the votes have been counted, and We’ve WON” Lots of cheering! Tester is looking good and I think missouri will go blue. Hello Majority leader Reid!
Webb says he one and Wolf cut him off. Classy.
When can we vote him off of CNN?
Webb just declared victory!!
And what a class guy JC Watts is. Best QBack the Ottawa Roughriders ever had.
Well, Webb was on MSNBC.

They’re finding their support in the same place as McCaskill, in about the same percentages. If she wins, so will the stem cell issue. If she goes down, so will they.
Don’t waste grief on Joe’s win. He’s toast. This is a pyrrhic victory if ever there was one. He’s not going to be the tie-breaker, and he burned his bridges with the Dem establishment by double-crossing them in the past and taking thug money for the future. The Thugs are on their way out, and he’s going to be squeezed out in 2008 when we pick up the extra seats.
I feel bad for Ned Lamont, but he ran a good race and if he wants to keep going, there will be a place for him. He has a future if he wants it, just like Hackworth. He did his duty as an American. Would we all be able to say that.

Good question: Does a Senator keep his/her seat until replaced?
If so, then we have a different scenario:
Webb narrowly wins; Allen refuses to recognize that victory; and the current Senate Republican majority refuses to recognize any of the new Democrats unless Allen is also seated as part of the package.
I guess CNN’s coverage is moving to the West Coast.

Nov. 7, 2006 — ABC News has learned that an informal winner in the Virginia Senate race between Republican incumbent George Allen and Democrat James Webb will likely be declared within the hour.
“You’re going to have an informal winner based on numbers tonight, probably within the hour or so,” James Alcorn, policy advisor to the Virginia Board of Elections, told ABC News at midnight.
Along with Senate races in Tennessee, Missouri and Montana, the Virginia race is one of the closest in the 2006 election.
While an informal winner will be announced shortly, the winner of the race will not be certified until Nov. 27. A canvas will take place over the course of the next seven days in which provisional ballots will be counted.
