Christy on CNN talks about Lieberman/Lamont (C&L has the video):
Jacquie Schechner: What are your thoughts right now after hearing Lieberman eked out a victory over Lamont?
Christy Hardin-Smith: Obviously it's disappointing, but at the same time I think that all the Democratic candidates that won tonight owe Ned Lamont a thank-you. He changed the conversation with his win in the primary to the failures and the lack of accountability in Iraq, he changed the conversation to the fact that there needed to be less rubber stamping in the US congress, and more oversight and more checks and balances and I think that that's something that Americans voted on this evening.
It's early in the evening and already three of the progressive candidates from our Blue America page — Mike Arcuri, Kristen Gillibrand and Joe Sestak have picked off their Republican opponents. Somebody might want to wake Mike Krempasky up and let him know he's just taken a 32 seat ass-waxing, because he doesn't seem to realize that a bunch of Democratic House committee chairs have just become his beloved President's worst nightmare come true.

CHRISTY!
“ass-waxing”
made my night.
Took the House.
Christy & Jane. Joan of Arc.
What with all the ass-waxing and closeted Republicans, the metrosexual vibe is very strong with this one.
It has been quite some time since I got a No. 1. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Sweet.
Did south Dakota really say we wont ban abortions? Do I have that ight?
We’re going to need to push back against the insidious meme (just heard Anderson Cooper repeat it) that this is a result of the “Let’s Run Republican-Lite Democrats” strategy.
I’ll take Heath Shuler’s win, sure. But the under-the-radar progressives are the real story, not the conventional wisdom of running milquetoast moderates. Or of concentrating on a limited number of races (paging Rahm Emmanuel …)
And you know what? They can’t ignore the blogs and netroots anymore. Stories are jumping from the blogs into the MSM.
Ken Mehlman looks like he just got ran over by a bus.
This comment fits better here:
Eyes on the prize people, we have WON THE HOUSE, which means Speaker Pelosi, investigations, and subpoena power.
MANY of the candidates we have supported in BlueAmerica are winning. The Lamont primary victory electrified progressive races across the nation. Tonight’s victory is in large part due to his courage in battling the current pro-war, pro-stay the course Congress.
I don’t remember who they spoke with from Redstate, but he was arrogant, pompous, and smug. Too bad he hadn’t spoken aloud earlier in the campaign. Lieberman wouldn’t have got even 1 vote.
Christy, OTOH, was gracious, intelligent and really well spoken. Not a smug bone in Redd’s body.
Christy!
We owe Lamont more than we ever can give him.
EFP reply to dab from CT:
((((dab from Ct))))
I agree with your comments. Ned was a fine candidate, and I was proud to be part of the volunteers. The man is total class; a thoroughly decent man. And I have no criticisms of his campaign. He ran an honest, decent and intelligent campaign, and if that’s not enough to win against a dishonest whiner, then we should look at the entire set of factors — the media, the pundits, the campaign laws, and most of all, the pathetic lack of character and courage in the stab-in-the-back Democratic leaderhsip — that prevented a decent man who was right on the issues from winning against someone who was pathetitcally wrong on the most important issue of our time. The Dems have much to answer for, and we’re going to start asking the questions. We’ll start that post mortem soon.
I also agree with Jane that Lamont liberated the debate about Iraq and made it possible for other Dems to focus on that issue and use it to win. The Demo victories across the country are partly the result of Lamont — and the blogs — and yeah, Dorothy, you helped do that. You did this.
I just want to say to all my Connecticut friends (and fdl frieds here) — thanks for the opportunity to contribute to this movement. You’re all great and I’d join with you to do it again in a heartbeat — in fact, I think we should start planning the next fdl get together for 2008, maybe in New Hampshire?
Finally, I just want to say thanks to Jane and Christy, and to Howie, Trex, Pachacutec, and the whole firedoglake army. Our ladies of lake and their phenomenal friends are a force, and they’re just getting started.
Just watching CNN, look at the clowns we have to watch — Carville, Begala, Bennett and JC — what losers. The next time, we want to see Jane and Christy and Glenn and their peers — they are the new heroes. This year they got to be seen at some internet cafe — next time, they’ll be the lead panelists. They are the future.
“watch this supeona”
I think we are going to see a lot more of Christy on CNN. She was fabulous!
shooogarp @ 12
Ken, if Steele is such a success story for the Republican party, why did he have those blue bumperstickers with “Steele Democrat” or why did they distribute those fake sample ballots showing him as a Democrat?
Christy is just so vibrant and succint and intelligent. Jane and Christy are really setting the tone for the face of the proggresive bloggers and we couldn’t be in better hands. Firedoglake is a force to be reconned with.
We ain’t heard the last of Lamont.
He’ll be back fighting, and none too soon.

I’ll never forgive the Clintons and the DLC crowd for not backing Ned when it’s so obvious they could’ve turned the tide.
It’s miraculous that we have the House — but it’s crystal clear that we have to hold Emanuel and co’s feet to the fucking fire for the next couple years.
Win or lose, two things are still true: Ned Lamont is good-hearted gentleman, and Joe Lieberman is nasty, ankle-biting, little man who voted for torture and the decrepitation of the Constitution.

And Chairmen Rangel and Waxman will no doubt agree with you.
One of the questions that just occurred to me is next week, when all the dust has settled and everyone has had some well-deserved sleep, it might be fruitful to look at those races that Repugs held. Did they win by percentages that were as large as they were the last time they ran, or are we making headway? I think, just a gut feeling here, that this may be telling.

Webb within 3000!
Ned was great, and he provided a spark, but, really, if you want to know how to thank for waking up America, look around you right now. That’s right. It was US.
Now I don’t want to sound like sour grapes but I get a strong feeling Joe will end up leaving the Senate in disgrace sooner than later. It is after all the current Republican way and Joe has definatly proved who’s team he really plays on…

Christy and Jane,
thank you so much for everything you do. Ned Lamont’s campaign has been an inspiration all across the country, even here in the red South. You two are genuine heroes for true democracy–rule by the PEOPLE, not by the few and the powerful. You may not realize it, but you have permanently changed American politics for the better. Now even isolated individuals have a place to meet, to speak freely, and to create a community that never stops reminding those powerful few that we are watching, and that we love our nation too much to let them destroy it. Thank you.

LJ/Aquaria @ 185
Thanks for all your work tonite LJ. Who needs CNN when I’ve got FDL?
Hi. Go Dems!

Arlington and Fairfax…big counties w/ precincts out…but Webb is winning in both.
Damn
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 178
They can call it all they want. I’m looking at what VA actually shows for vote counts.
And here are the latest numbers:
Precincts Reporting: 2423 of 2443 (99.18%)
Registered Voters: 4,555,672 Total Voting: 2,309,512 Voter Turnout: 50.70 %

G F Allen Republican 1,141,753 49.44%
J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,139,885 49.36%
dharmarific @ 182
Frankly, a 50/50 split wouldn’t bother me. We’d get to know where the Shooter is most of the time.
punaise @ 187
That would be the theme from “Pombo the Falling Elephant?”
owe Ned Lamont a thank-you
List starts here:
1. Senator-elect Brown (ex-alumnus Blue America)
2. Senator-elect Casey (honorable mention Dan Savage)
3. Senator-elect Whitehouse
4. Speaker-elect Pelosi
Fundraiser to be sure NED’s kids get through college: priceless
We definately won’t know this for afew days, but man is it great drama with numbers!
Lol at MSN with switching webb’s name with allans on the numbers, someone get a screenshot!
Guitar_Playing_Bastard @ 167
throw Rahm under the porcelain bus
Webb still down 1757 with .9% remaining.
Talent, Jim REP 620,430__________51.0%
McCaskill, Claire DEM 553,027____45.4%
Lamont diary on Kos recommended as per request. Great diary too. How can a party not support the candidate that won the primary. Well, it would seem that many candidates got little or nothing from Schumer and Rahm.
Ned, please link up with Dean. You two would make a great team.
ember @ 175
Here, here! I second that emotion. I appreciate your updates LJ!
It’s time for Rove to press that magic 25,000 button again. :)
Tweety must want to rip KO’s ears off tonite. He is a big sore loser acting like he is siding with the Dems. Cocktail weenies do funny things to men in power.
Okay, this will probably be EPU’d but I have to say that reflecting on the Lamont result (which frankly made me want to climb into bed and put the covers over my head) I said to my husband that one of the best things to come from the Lamont challenge was that at least it finally got Lieberman out of the party–yeah yeah he claims he’ll caucus with the dems–but he is no longer a Dem, and IMO that is a very good thing!
punaise @ 187
Act Blue looms large.
Heck, y’all, all I’m doing is keeping one window open with the VA website, and refreshing it every couple of minutes…
And to think–I’ve never even been to Virginia!
One thing I like about politics, though, is that you get to learn a lot about a place if you get involved in one of their political races. I’ve learned where places are and who lives where tonight. Fun!
VA State office still doesn’t reflect these results re: Webb.
One other thing… WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MISSOURI?
CNN projects 30 pickups in the House.
That means 233 to 202 — a comfortable margin.
Rob Zuber @ 203
It’s like a cheat code for a video game, isn’t it?
testaroo @ 208
I think the rurals are turning in first, urbans will appear later. That’s the theory. We’ll see.
McCaskill is a lot further down than Webb was, though.
egregious @ 164
I had to make coffee. Want some?
testaroo @ 208
I think the VA website froze. I doubt CNN would be posting bogus numbers.
Patrick 4/4- where should I look for the CA-25 results? I don’t expect a win there, this time around, though that would be great. I wonder what % would constitute a “shocker” in terms of good showing by RR, and enough to get him to run again in 2 years. Any ideas?
missouri will tighten. urban districts. heavily democratic.
Shumer’s behind Reid, wearing a the biggest shit-eating grin.
What’s that great big sucking sound I hear? Is it Santa? No, it’s the air coming out of the helium balloons at George Allen’s campaign headquarters…
Allen lead up to 1868.

Um… Yeah they would. Did you ever think they’d pump fake info to get a war on?
Alen campaing already has lawyers on the ground…
Goodnight all. Wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else tonite. Thanks for helping take our country back. GO BLUE!
Harry Reid giving a great speech.
Why in the hell are reid, schumer and pelosi wearing purple?
It’s electric BLUE tonight.
Take no shit. Make no compromises. Take no prisoners.
UptownNYChick @ 221
I hope they’re just as dumb as he is.
One out in Arlington/ 3 out in Fairfax
ABC is reporting that the absentee votes for VA may not be in. So it really is too early to call, I’m afraid…
egregious @ 164
well then, I want what you’re on. =)
T- @ 224
purple is the color of change, the color of transition… very appropriate!
Frank Probst @ 213
Thanks, first time I’ve laughed in about an hour
gaaah msnbc just say they cant get a recount till the election is certified, and that takes 10 days, so we wont know for TWO WEEKS
how the hell are we supposed to make press releases on what we’re going to hold the MAJORITY accountable for if we dont know if theyre a majority FOR TWO MORE WEEKS?!
gives us more time to draft one i guess…
MarcLord @ 228
calm in from the culled
Four out in Richmond
Blub @ 227
A vote this close, I wouldn’t call until 100% of the precincts were in.
And a recount was done.

Posted this before, but a friend of mine in NY (environmental activist) said: “POMBO! That’s the sound of a congressman hitting the windshield.”
apparenty if it’s within 11,000 votes the commonweath of Va. will pay for the recount. If not, the loser has to foot the bill.

Sweet.
NPR reporting on the vote discrepancy between media sites and the state site in Virginia. They are saying there will be a recount no matter what.

Hey, Kansas Kitty! I’m in KS too, and I think she has it in the bag. Happy days are here again.
I’VE HAD ENOUGH!!!
Y’all will know someone was getting hinky with the votes in VA if we hit 100% and Allen is up by >1%.
Let’s not forget our big drum to beat on tomorrow.
ROVE has ruined the Republicans.
Karl Rove is the big loser tonight. He nationalized the election, he tied the rotted carcass of G.W. Bush around the neck of every Republican.
Rove, genius?
Haaa…He’s a fucking Loooooooooser!

Guitar_Playing_Bastard @ 183
I’m taking it we went with the rum. Good choice! I went singlemalt, personally, but it was in the cupboard.
I’m in complete agreement on many levels. The race with Lamont was there two, three weeks ago. You could taste it, I started a blog over the issue last night: moprop.blogspot.com
I guess I should update it but I’m a little depressed. The House was a marvelous victory, in general, but the State of Minnesota is sending Michelle Bachmann–the most hateful little thing that will have walked those hallowed halls in many, many years.
Well, I’m disappointed by the CT voters, but overall this is a great victory tonight and yes, the Pyrat Rum I spoke of earlier, sure is tasty.
Still Lamont losing – Heartbreak…it’s hurtin me, it’s hurtin me…
I do not know if anyone mentioned this, but we may have failed in the GOTV. Or the GOP suppression machine worked in Hartford. A city of several hundred thousand with a turnout of 16,000?????
Jeez!!
OC – not the way I see it.
It’s an olive branch.
Red and blue make purple.
There’s a new thread in town.
I feel sick, but I have hope for the future.
Our country may be recovering. Look at the breakdown…

LJ/Aquaria @ 211
Hugh @ 239
Oh, definitely. At this point, it would take something illegal or close to it, for this to break big for one candidate or another.
GSD – and let’s not forget Mehlman – no wonder he looks so sick!
*praying to the gods above*
Please let this bode well and get Pombo out of the House here in CA…that anti-ESA dog just can’t hunt anymore!!!
russert is such an a&&
Valley Girl @ 214
I don’t know what the margin would be that will put a scare into Buck Buck. I think Robert has some huge potential – either in this district in another two years or in an assembly or state senate race.
I’m going to keep in touch with his peeps, though and support him wherever he goes.
T- @ 247
I know what I’d like to do with their damned olive branch…
LJ/Aquaria @ 207
I graduated from Mrs. Bell’s kintergarden in Falls Church, a long time ago.
GSD @ 243
I keep waiting for KO to compare lard butts “math” to the MSNBC math.
Steve-O @ 246
That’s ludicrous, insane! It can’t be true?
NY-19 John Hall (D): 51% Kelly (R): 49% 95% reporting
Can’t wait to see the breakdown on Blue America candidates. Really seems like they’re kickin much ass. Howie Klein is “Still the One” of many around here bringing Democracy back to the ol’ USofA! We’re just getting our own Wurlitzer tuned up and we’ll be making alot of music for years to come. THANK YOU ALL!
punaise @ 231
Back in 1957
We had to dance a foot apart
And they hawk-eyed us from the sidelines
Holding their rulers without a heart
And so with just a touch of our fingers
I could make our circuitry explode
All we ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold
Joni Mitchell, ‘Come in from the Cold’
JohnSwifty @ 259
Depends on the voter registration. What percentage of registered voters voted?
Thanks, LJ/Aquaria. Wondering how / if these discrepancies are going to shake out.
I still see:
G F Allen Republican 1,141,753 49.44%
J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,139,885 49.36%
bonkers @ 260
Hall was one victimized by the false flag robo-calls. The evil doers need to be brought to justice.
Steve-O @ 246
I wondered about this earlier; Same with New Haven, and all the other big cities in CT.
Am so disappointded that Patty did not win but thank all the stars in the sky that Bachman will be in the minority.
JohnSwifty @ 244
Yes suh, went with the Pyrat. Damn tasty rum. Bevmo is five blocks away so it was an easy trip. Haven’t mixed it with anything, I’m drinking it straight. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.
I know there are those who won’t agree, but the Democratic party needs to be purged of ALL PRO-WAR peple.
Barbara Boxer is pro-war. Russ Feingold is pro-war (if you support Lieberman, even if it’s by NOT supporting Ned, you are PRO-WAR). Every single Dem who did not give full-throated support for Ned Lamont needs to be expelled from the party. Leave not a single traitor in our midst.
Most dems are pro-war. Kerry came out to support Ned. Wes Clark suppported Ned. Anybody who didn’t should be a target and attacked from every possible side.
As muchas I hate repukes, I’d rather have a repuke I could trust to be a felonious asshole than a self-described Dem who betrayed us. At least with the repuke, you know where they stand.
Well, while we wait for them to stop dithering in VA, it looks like Talent is slowly slipping to 50% in MO….

good morning all. one huge debt of gratitude to jane and christy. strong women of class and great distinction. thank you for leading us so well. and to all of the rest of the women and men who give this blog it’s special, intelligent, feisty character.
it looks like a great victory for the people of America and the rest of the world. may it continue to look so as the late precincts are accounted for. don’t give an inch and keep fighting those arrogant bastards toe to toe. be gracious in victory, but keep kicking ass.
i have to say, though, that ned’s projected loss makes for one sad memory, but even in that loss he made a fantastic contribution to the bigger victory. we owe him and should really let him know how much we respect him for what he did..
and, yes, count every vote in Connecticut. let’s see just what the final tally looks like …….
Hey all, we are closing out threads as soon as a new one appears, just to make it easier for the mods, and to keep the site running at top spead. Thanks for your patience.
