Christy on CNN talks about Lieberman/Lamont (C&L has the video):
Jacquie Schechner: What are your thoughts right now after hearing Lieberman eked out a victory over Lamont?Christy Hardin-Smith: Obviously it's disappointing, but at the same time I think that all the Democratic candidates that won tonight owe Ned Lamont a thank-you. He changed the conversation with his win in the primary to the failures and the lack of accountability in Iraq, he changed the conversation to the fact that there needed to be less rubber stamping in the US congress, and more oversight and more checks and balances and I think that that's something that Americans voted on this evening.
It's early in the evening and already three of the progressive candidates from our Blue America page -- Mike Arcuri, Kristen Gillibrand and Joe Sestak have picked off their Republican opponents. Somebody might want to wake Mike Krempasky up and let him know he's just taken a 32 seat ass-waxing, because he doesn't seem to realize that a bunch of Democratic House committee chairs have just become his beloved President's worst nightmare come true.

I remember when FDL was attacting 500 people a day. Look what WE have done!!

CHRISTY!
“ass-waxing”
made my night.
Took the House.
Christy & Jane. Joan of Arc.
What with all the ass-waxing and closeted Republicans, the metrosexual vibe is very strong with this one.
It has been quite some time since I got a No. 1. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Sweet.
Did south Dakota really say we wont ban abortions? Do I have that ight?
We’re going to need to push back against the insidious meme (just heard Anderson Cooper repeat it) that this is a result of the “Let’s Run Republican-Lite Democrats” strategy.
I’ll take Heath Shuler’s win, sure. But the under-the-radar progressives are the real story, not the conventional wisdom of running milquetoast moderates. Or of concentrating on a limited number of races (paging Rahm Emmanuel …)
And you know what? They can’t ignore the blogs and netroots anymore. Stories are jumping from the blogs into the MSM.
Ken Mehlman looks like he just got ran over by a bus.
This comment fits better here:
Eyes on the prize people, we have WON THE HOUSE, which means Speaker Pelosi, investigations, and subpoena power.
MANY of the candidates we have supported in BlueAmerica are winning. The Lamont primary victory electrified progressive races across the nation. Tonight’s victory is in large part due to his courage in battling the current pro-war, pro-stay the course Congress.
I don’t remember who they spoke with from Redstate, but he was arrogant, pompous, and smug. Too bad he hadn’t spoken aloud earlier in the campaign. Lieberman wouldn’t have got even 1 vote.
Christy, OTOH, was gracious, intelligent and really well spoken. Not a smug bone in Redd’s body.
Christy!
We owe Lamont more than we ever can give him.
EFP reply to dab from CT:
((((dab from Ct))))
I agree with your comments. Ned was a fine candidate, and I was proud to be part of the volunteers. The man is total class; a thoroughly decent man. And I have no criticisms of his campaign. He ran an honest, decent and intelligent campaign, and if that’s not enough to win against a dishonest whiner, then we should look at the entire set of factors — the media, the pundits, the campaign laws, and most of all, the pathetic lack of character and courage in the stab-in-the-back Democratic leaderhsip — that prevented a decent man who was right on the issues from winning against someone who was pathetitcally wrong on the most important issue of our time. The Dems have much to answer for, and we’re going to start asking the questions. We’ll start that post mortem soon.
I also agree with Jane that Lamont liberated the debate about Iraq and made it possible for other Dems to focus on that issue and use it to win. The Demo victories across the country are partly the result of Lamont — and the blogs — and yeah, Dorothy, you helped do that. You did this.
I just want to say to all my Connecticut friends (and fdl frieds here) — thanks for the opportunity to contribute to this movement. You’re all great and I’d join with you to do it again in a heartbeat — in fact, I think we should start planning the next fdl get together for 2008, maybe in New Hampshire?
Finally, I just want to say thanks to Jane and Christy, and to Howie, Trex, Pachacutec, and the whole firedoglake army. Our ladies of lake and their phenomenal friends are a force, and they’re just getting started.
Just watching CNN, look at the clowns we have to watch — Carville, Begala, Bennett and JC — what losers. The next time, we want to see Jane and Christy and Glenn and their peers — they are the new heroes. This year they got to be seen at some internet cafe — next time, they’ll be the lead panelists. They are the future.
“watch this supeona”
I think we are going to see a lot more of Christy on CNN. She was fabulous!
shooogarp @ 12
Ken, if Steele is such a success story for the Republican party, why did he have those blue bumperstickers with “Steele Democrat” or why did they distribute those fake sample ballots showing him as a Democrat?
Christy is just so vibrant and succint and intelligent. Jane and Christy are really setting the tone for the face of the proggresive bloggers and we couldn’t be in better hands. Firedoglake is a force to be reconned with.
We ain’t heard the last of Lamont.
He’ll be back fighting, and none too soon.

The blogs and netroots are the point of a spear. The New Deal Dims lost control of Congress, and they’re not getting it back. Rahm is old guard. The future is passing to the Progressitives.

I’ll never forgive the Clintons and the DLC crowd for not backing Ned when it’s so obvious they could’ve turned the tide.
It’s miraculous that we have the House — but it’s crystal clear that we have to hold Emanuel and co’s feet to the fucking fire for the next couple years.
Win or lose, two things are still true: Ned Lamont is good-hearted gentleman, and Joe Lieberman is nasty, ankle-biting, little man who voted for torture and the decrepitation of the Constitution.

Great comments, Christy!
And Chairmen Rangel and Waxman will no doubt agree with you.
One of the questions that just occurred to me is next week, when all the dust has settled and everyone has had some well-deserved sleep, it might be fruitful to look at those races that Repugs held. Did they win by percentages that were as large as they were the last time they ran, or are we making headway? I think, just a gut feeling here, that this may be telling.

You know, I’m starting to think (adjusts tin foil hat ears) the Gop just got together and decided to give us the keys to everything since things are such a mess and they stole all the money and everything. They did it so that they can nail us in 2008.
Webb within 3000!
Ned was great, and he provided a spark, but, really, if you want to know how to thank for waking up America, look around you right now. That’s right. It was US.
Now I don’t want to sound like sour grapes but I get a strong feeling Joe will end up leaving the Senate in disgrace sooner than later. It is after all the current Republican way and Joe has definatly proved who’s team he really plays on…

Christy Hardin Smith @ 46
It would be nice to see more of you on the TV, CHS. You were great!
Jeebus, many of the precincts outstanding are from Fairfax, Prince William, etc.

Thank you Janie, Christy, T-REx and all of you. You were the standard bearers. Living in California and not having the resources to travel (you wouldn’t want me there anyway) I could not join you in person, but I am proud of y’all.
I hope, starting Thursday (yeah, y’all need to rest tomorrow) you will begin to start the purging of Dems like Rahm Emanual, Barbara Boxer, DiFi, Hilary Clinton and the rest of the “Blue Dog” Dems who would sell us out for a place at the trough of Saudi Oil. Never forget, Saudi oil is what this election is about. We must make Saudi Oil so unpalatable that the riches are not worth the trouble.
I thank you for your efforts, I wish I had more to offrer than money, but like I said, you wouldn’t want me, I tend to be a bit too…assertive in situations like you’ve found yourselves.
