[Please welcome Joel Silberman, a fantastic person and PFAW advocate. And one of the most amazing people that I know. -- CHS]
America’s true democracy lives in a coffee house in the Adams Morgan section of DC. Tonight I am the guest of CNN where I’m in the company of some of the most read bloggers in the country. The election of 2006 will go down in history as a moment when the netroots changed America’s political conversation; when the mainstream moved from the far right of center to the center.
While Ned Lamont may have lost his race to be the Senator from Connecticut all Democrats who are winning tonight owe him a debt of gratitude for being the first candidate to make Iraq the center of this electoral season. And it was the blogosphere that fueled that conversation turning it into a referendum on accountability and the need for checks and balances on a President run amok.
When we win tonight we will see Democrats who are unapologetic progressives leading the way. And I believe this is only the edge of the progressive wave of people powered politics. I write tonight in admiration of every individual sitting at their computer participating in tonight’s political dialogue. This is 21st century democracy at its best.

R- Hayworth in AZ is GOING DOWN!! This bodes well for the AZ Senate race too! D- Napalitano is leading something like 64% to 34% over the R- Munsil. This is in a very “red” state. Hope this means Kyl could go down too in the Senate. Keep an eye on AZ!!!

So that’s what it’s like to be EPU’d. I’m no longer a virgin.LOL
3 senior Repub house seats have gone Dem.
All the closely contested senate seats which have been called have gone Dem.
It’s still looking good even though it’s mostly been the so-called “low-hanging fruit” which has been called so far.
Drink coffee or tea, but stay up. The VA race looks to be a nail-biter, along with MO and perhaps even AZ.
Hopefully, our long national nightmare may soon be over.
Although I’m not sure it will.
My god, the shrieking harpies of the right will be in an uproar for the next two years.
Speaker Pelosi! Damn. A woman in the third highest elected office in the nation. We are almost in the 20th century!

Agreed. Can’t someone in power just tell her if she runs for president she’s giving power to the republicans?
Hello Speaker Pelosi, goody by Denny “cover up” Hastert
So… lemme guess here… they put KO on MSNBC doing election coverage just to be a beard for Tweety? I intend to let MSNBC know that I will only watch them for one hour in the evening, and only if KO is on during that hour… SNARL….

The Senate will depend on Virginia. Virginia will go to a recount that will take a long time, and then come out with a tiny lead by the Republicans. Riots will ensue. People will begin to take sides for ‘08.
I hope to be wrong. But the main thing is that people have awoken, and they have HAD ENOUGH. They will not easily be lulled to sleep again. We are now deep into the race for the country two years from now.
And in the meantime, we have SUBPOENA POWER, and INVESTIGATIONS.
GOOD BEGINNING!! KEEP WORKING!!
I do like the sound of “Speaker Pelosi”!

Hello, guys – re Ned Lamont conceeding – here’s why = there were poll standers in every district (i was one). We all stayed at our assigned voting place until after 8 PM and witnessed the counting of the votes. Then we called in to the Lamont headquarters. So, headquarters got all the districts, precincts within 1/2 hour. So Ned had the numbers right away.
He gave a classy speech. it will resonate as to what we are all about. And we will keep fighting for these values.

Barfed Canvas
Well, in KS it looks like we had a good night. Besides the Gov’s re-election which was expected, it’s likely we elected a Democrat, Nancy Boyda, in KS-2, defeating a Repug incumbent who Bush flew in to try to salvage on Sunday (ha!) It’s not final yet, but looks good. And we re-elected our one Democratic incumbent congressman, Dennis Moore, for a 50/50 split.
We also elected a Democrtic attorney general for the first time in 32 years, beating a real slimeball incumbent who liked to seize women’s (and girl’s) medical records from abortion clinics and ran a really dirty campaign.
So things are looking good here–IN KANSAS!
Eyes on the prize people, we have WON THE HOUSE, which means Speaker Pelosi, investigations, and subpoena power.
MANY of the candidates we have supported in BlueAmerica are winning. The Lamont primary victory electrified progressive races across the nation. Tonight’s victory is in large part due to his courage in battling the current pro-war, pro-stay the course Congress.
Teddysanfran,
High five dude.
Virginia’s nasty anti-gay Amendment just passed. I just sent my folks (who live in northern Virginia) an e-mail saying I won’t be home for Christmas. I’m kind of annoyed that I already have tickets for Thanksgiving.
cbl @ 109
This is great news. Blue America candidate. So glad he won- and there were some really really nasty GOP doings there.
VA Absentees:
From Washington Post.com tonight:
Marc Fisher: Ok, I got a quick primer on the Virginia absentee ballot situation from our Richmond bureau expert on these things, Michael Shear. Absentee ballots are counted as an extra precinct in each county in the state. Some of those counties have already fed their absentee ballots into the machine and those votes are reflected in your statewide totals. Others, such as Arlington, have not yet posted their absentee results, but all counties are expected to do so tonight. So any impression I gave earlier in the evening that absentees would have to wait some days to be counted is incorrect. (That delay does happen in many other states, but Virginia is getting them all done tonight.)
So…stay tuned.
(Courtesy Billvabeach at nls)

If the Dems don’t win the Senate, Lieberman should be kicked out of the party caucus. Won’t happen. But, it should.
I hope Peter Daou is reading tonight.

How can we take the Senate if MO goes for Talent, and Arizona goes for Kyl (I read he is ahead)? The only ones left are Montana and Virginia, but that only makes 5? Maybe I cannot count.
Hoorah for all the Blue Voters!
This is just the beginning. We’ll take more ground in 2008 and start that battle tomorrow.
I’m so sorry that Ned didn’t win but all that he did do for our country will never be forgotten. He brought back reality and truth and hope and was the catalyst that helped to restore our democracy. Better days are ahead because of Ned Lamont.

Mr. Bush has all the powers that Hitler had and if you think he won’t use them then your not really living in reality.
Only the World standing up against him will stop the death and destruction that he will bring upon the World in his quest for more power.
Cheney already said that him and bush don’t have to answer to congress even if the congress supeonas them to testify before them.
You did a terrific job trying to get the american people to wake up and attempt to take our country back, but it appears they don’t want the freedoms our forefathers fought and died for it give it too them.
Only time will tell if I am right or wrong and like Bush said about the War in Iraq my opinion will only be just a comma.
God Bless American.
If Bush is the motivation for the end of this dark era, and it looks like he may be, we should thank him. If no Bush is ever elected again anywhere, we should praise him.

Joe has already said he will caucas with the Dems.
If Dems only get to 49, Joe may go over to GOP.
If Dems get to 50, it’s a lot more likely imvho that Joe will go over to GOP, or take Rumsfeld’s place and let Jodi Rell (CT’s GOP governor) appoint a GOP replacement, same difference.
If Dems get to 51, it’s worth it to give Joe whatever he wants to keep him from going over to the darkside. (50 50 means DeadEye casts the tiebreaker). To really castrate Joe, Dems have to get to 52 and I think both Webb and Ford have to win, along with everyone else, for that to happen (since Kyl won in AZ). I’m guessing at the numbers here, welcome input.

MSNBC said something about having to pay for the recount, do we need to start donating for that? I want GOOD lawyers this time.
Treacle on a cold day would move faster than the results coming in from Montana. There are about 56 counties in the state and results have come in for 7.

Now that I’ll awaken to prospects of a blue House in the morning and all the investigations and oversight that will follow, I’m off to bed for some sweet dreams.
The last 4 days of GOTV have been worth the sleep deprivation and sore muscles. Goodnight all.
VG, thank you for all your FDL work, too!
Go Trauner..I get tears in my eyes when I remember the four years I lived in Jackson Wyo. About two miles from chez Cheney(YUK). (BTW the wife got the house)
We’ve been at these numbers quite a while now (relatively speaking for this site). Wonder what’s up with those remaining precincts, if it’s as Grandma speculated upstairs.
Bush is pulling up the floorboards in the Lincoln bedroom right about now looking for those missing WMD’s….
George A. @ 146
Please, my training is primary education, so I’d ask you to check your grammar and then your history. After those corrections, perhaps I’ll consider your pessimism.
Thank you! Any similar site for Missouri / Montana?
ccmask @ 213
He’s not looking for WMDs, he’s trying to find the stash of Wild Turkey he has hidden from the LauraBot2000.
Excellent news about SD!!
IA 02 Loebsack is still ahead with 50% of the vote . Johnson county absentee ballots are delayed 4 hours by machine counting glitch. Johnson co is heavily democratic. 51% to 49% Culver has won the Governor race over Nussle!!!!! Yay!
Frank Probst @ 186
“And oh btw Junya, I’m afraid you can’t pardon yourself. Have you closed on Paraquay yet?”
Valley Girl @ 167
Hey VG -
the well-groomed kitties and I hope you chase off the viruses soon!
thanks to you and all the mods for looking after the lake tonight….
30000 absentee balletts in fairfax county!; how long do those take to count?John Casper @ 198
Youre pretty much right i think, but it assumes that some more moderate republicans will STAY republican- if they see that in 08 theyre screated they might jump ship; theres been alot of silent angry republicans who’ve jsut been voting with the status quo but really theyre republicans for social change- if the democrats create social change they might run on over
Twisted Martini @ 185
from your sips to god’s ears
punaise @ 205
Punaise- you’d be a great mod. Do you want to take that on? Prepare to be consumed…. still? You are a TRUSTED MEMBER!!! (I dare you to get going on that one…) No, please don’t…. ;)
My next donation is going for a pedicure…for me!
New thread
I believe that Dr. Bloor. If Dumbya got caught driving drunk, Laura wouldn’t know whether to call AA or AAA.
For Missouri:

U.S. Senator Precincts Reporting 1930 of 3746
Talent, Jim REP 548,338 51.4%
McCaskill, Claire DEM 481,240 45.1%
The sad thing is that anti-gay marriage ammendments seem to be approved my more and more states. Have any states actually rejected it?
The VA race is way closer than it should be. Allen is a jackass and I am shocked that anyone would actually vote for him. I know the South is tough for Democrats, but Allen is hardly a decent GOP candidate; he’s the Anti-Christ.
dr. bloor @ 219
I think its some of that crystal meth he bought on paypal (tracts) from the right reverend Haggard.
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 210
And thank you for all of your great comments. The downside of being a mod is that it becomes hard to follow conversations on particular threads in a reasonable way- just reduced to looking at incoming comments in WP “comments” thread, w/o context.
Minimum wage raises are going to pass in Missouri, Montana, Nevada, and Ohio, with Colorado and Arizona just starting to count.
Matt’s going to be happy, as are a bunch of minimum wage workers!

Thanks – it was a pleasure working for him. He is a very decent and deserved much better than the treatment he got from many.
is my tv screen failing? it’s tuned to MSNBC and …
Ken Mehlmann is losing his hair and has lost weight, now Ed Gillespie appears to have lost about fifteen to twenry pounds too?
ccmask @ 213
nope, he’s looking for the little crystals the nice preacher man gave him….
dab from CT @ 233
I hope Ned seeks political office again – he’ll have a built-in following. Thanks, dab: it was the good fight.
I will be so angry if McCaskill doesn’t win. I will have to leave MO, even if just in spirit.
John Casper @ 198
No no no. If the last six years have taught us anyone, it’s that you shouldn’t make a deal with the devil. Just ask Colin Powell. If it’s 50 Dems, 49 Repubs, and 1 Joe Lieberman, Joe should be told that he’s welcome to caucus with the Dems as a freshman Senator. If he wants to jump ship, hand him an anchor and let him go. A 50-50 split means that the Shooter has to come our of hiding to break all ties. So your choice is: (A) Cut a deal with Joe and take the Senate, knowing that Joe will stab you in the back on a daily basis for the next two years, versus (B) lose the Senate, get Joe to show his true colors, and know exactly where the Shooter is. I’ll take Plan B.
Lieberman will caucus with the Democrats because he knows that the Senate will go Democratic in 2008 and he would not want to end up in the minority. Joe thinks about Joe first. Of course he will vote for Bush judicial nominees as usual and keep doing the bidding of the credit card companies and other various bloodsuckers out there.
