My favorite email of the day:
Dear fellow bloggers,
Mr. Howie Klein of BlueAmerica and http://downwithtyrrany.blogspot.com has been kind enough to let us use his campaign song for our District 36 Florida House race. He's posted about it here:
http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/2006/11/had-enough-in-central-florida-time-to.html
Howie has asked me to forward this link to everyone on my reading list, so here goes! Hope to see great things on Tuesday night!

Mr. Howie Klein sure does rock.

Another 0, woo hoo!
I better go play the lottery.
BTW: Is anyone else having trouble getting Crooks and Liars to load?
Keith Olbermann and FDL!
Scarborough is saying Republican hopes for keeping control of the House AND the Senate are fading.
Howie is one of my new Heroes!
FDL Rocks!
Triple whoa for Keith O’s ‘Special Comment’ tonight.
Wowza. He’s definitely been working on that one. His commentary and the visual montage that matched his points was intense and smart.
A must see/read.

Brokaw is saying on Scarborough that American voters are wanting accountability on Iraq tomorrow. Can you smell and taste the victory yet? I sure can!
I just received a call from Gen. Clark asking me to vote for Mary Beth Harrell. She would replace Republican Congressman Carter from Texas. I voted for her during Early Voting.
Let’s keep pushing — ignore the polls like someone suggested earlier today, and just concentrate on GOTV! Thanks everybody.

Monk thank you for the Keith graphic, it was really wonderful. Everyone loved it.

fingers and toes crossed– GOTV.
Now they’re talking about a possible Democratic “landslide” tomorrow on Scarborough.
I just went to a local board meeting of our county’s Democratic Party- Even though we have totally kicked butt in our election efforts, there were some seriously cranky people there. I think lots of folks are on edge. There is so much at stake!angie @ 12

What was it Jane said earlier?
Comic Gold.
I can’t decide if Jane has not been back on Olbermann’s show because she is to smart or to purty. Could it be both reasons?
Not to be a buzz-killer, but what will we all do for humor when Katherine Harris augers in? Wait for her book?
OOOH, and for those of you who couldn’t make yesterday’s KO book discussion, he’s going to come out with a book of Special Comments! FDL heard it first, maybe…
Good point from Carville on CNN a bit ago… he pointed out that in the 94′ elections the Republicans were polling only 6 pts above the Democrats on election day and that yielded them 50 seats.
Regardless of the difference in the current polls, they average out to give democrats a 11 point lead.

Hey SharonW!!!
Nice to see Chairman Dean’s 50 state strategy talked up on Larry King, by Leslie Blitzer no less. And did anybody else think JCWatts looked terribly conflicted about his buddy Harold Ford — I could tell JC wants him to win and couldn’t say so, good GOPer that he is.
It’s so wonderful to see that old chestnut, first used by the GOP to take control of a senescent Congress in 1946, come out of retirement for a spin around the block at every level of Democratic campaigns. I have to wonder if my co-champion of the slogan has seen any of these wonderful videos, and what Newt thinks about them.

Angie, I could go off with another Goat’s Head soup angle, but flip ain’t in it when the stakes are high. Take a deep breath, we’ll make it home somehow. There’s gonna be a reckoning, if not now, just bigger and better later. If the authoritarians are smart, they’ll take it now. Even the true neocons want it that way. Did you read the Vanity Fair article with Richard Perle laying it out? True conservatives are sick of the shite too. The question is whether or not the message has gotten to the back rooms.

Scarborough has a lot to answer for, yet as self-reflective people, don’t we all? But you know, he is an evolving human being which should be an inspiration for a lot of other people on TV.
I would like his physical features to be not the issue. We have a lot of fellow bloggers with physical disabilities and deformities. [I’m not saying he has a physical deformity, only that his looks shouldn’t be our issue.] Let’s look at inner beauty.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt, as we wait on the other side of the Looking Glass for people to come thru once they GET IT. Let us show mercy for them. People make mistakes. It is painful to admit one has made a mistake as I am newly aware this very week.
Marion in Savannah @ 25
I’d be as eager for that book as you are, but for the sake of accuracy, I’ll note that KO said there were discussions under way for such a book…it’s not necessarily a done deal.

I have a hunch JC Watts will be a whole lot nicer to Democrats come Wednesday.
This from Digby re Rove’s comments in Florida this morning before Bush’s Pensacola speech which featured – ta-daaa – Katherine Harris:
One can only imagine what kind of tongue lashing he just took from the spoiled brat in chief over this bungle. The pictures of this trainwreck of a rally with the all-star team of George and Jeb up there alone with nutty election fixer Katherine Harris are going to be precious.

Dean’s 50 State Strategy is probably the best thing that has happened in politics in the last 20 years. And, by the way, IT’S WORKING!!!
And I believe it will keep on working. GO ROOTZ!

I have to share with you all that my Election Day present for TRex arrived in the mail here today from the Clare Booth Luce Institute — the Great American Conservative Women calendar for 2007. I wonder whether his favorite pinup will be Miss May (Michelle Malkin) or Miss December (Annthrax)?
I’m going over to spend the night with my almost 100 year old Auntie in a bit. And will be taking her to the polls early before I go to work. She’s voting a straight Demo ticket (always has) tomorrow, and doesn’t need me or anyone else to tell her how to vote. This old girl knows right from wrong. And she ain’t nervous either. This woman is amazing. She’s articulate, and knows the issues and the candidates. How many 99 year old Progressives do you know?

Anybody else notice lately how bad Ken Mehlmann looks lately. HE’s on Larry King now, and actually doesn’t look as bad as he has in the past few weeks, but still. Must be hell to be Republican. Not to mention closeted.

This is from Pat Buchanan’s magazine, American Conservative:
GOP Must Go
Next week Americans will vote for candidates who have spent much of their campaigns addressing state and local issues. But no future historian will linger over the ideas put forth for improving schools or directing funds to highway projects.
-snip-
The war will continue as long as Bush is in office, for no other reason than the feckless president can’t face the embarrassment of admitting defeat. The chain of events is not complete: Bush, having learned little from his mistakes, may yet seek to embroil America in new wars against Iran and Syria.
-snip- (but you should read it)
On Nov. 7, the world will be watching as we go to the polls, seeking to ascertain whether the American people have the wisdom to try to correct a disastrous course. Posterity will note too if their collective decision is one that captured the attention of historians—that of a people voting, again and again, to endorse a leader taking a country in a catastrophic direction. The choice is in our hands.
Does anybody else feel like we’re having a party? The phone keeps ringing with robocalls and I keep running back and forth from the teevee to the computer to the kitchen. I am making pre-election night chickeny goulashy stuff:
Boil three chicken breasts with bones for broth to use later and yummy tender chicken for this stuff. Throw in some parsely sage rosemary and thyme (or whatever herbs you like).
In big huge pan saute in olive oil:
onions, mushrooms, garlic, red peppers, yellow squash, zucchini. Add some stewed tomatoes. Put in a bunch of spices (make sure there is some oregano in there). Cook for a long time. Bone the chicken, add it (the chicken, not the bones) to the goulash (oops, I forgot the eggplant; guess it isn’t goulash). Cook forever, Later boil some pasta — shells or bowties or something fun — then drain the pasta, add the pasta to the other stuff. Put some in bowls, top with romano cheese. Have a glass of red wine with it (unless you are TRex).
yum.
So I’m running back and forth and it just feels like a party.

If it’s not a heavy Dem county, the GOP has to be shitting right about now. They turned out a higher percentage of their voters early/absentee, and the Dems crushed them anyway.
raven @ 91
Dade (Miami) Broward (Ft. Lauderdale) and Palm Beach counties do tend to be pretty blue areas, though only about 90 minutes away on the other side of the state, my town, Naples, is VERY RED. But we have a superb GOTV effort here, so we are very hopeful. But there are twice as many Republicans here as Dems.

Holy Crap! You caught me from the last thread? And here I am, dragging my ass in late on this thread. Sorry.
Hey, I hear from a Republican insider that Joe is really worried and didn’t think the Q-Poll was accurate. Their inside numbers have Schlesinger around 15% not 8%.
Oh man, on tonight’s news Joe actually said he didn’t believe the Q’s numbers. Now we know why!
Incidentally, I hear that Joe’s out to blanket minority areas with crappy “Greenwich country club” flyers tomorrow…again.
Last two days of canvassing in Ct, with Selise, RevDeb, lisadawn, Jen for Denmark, Rae from New Mexico, and others — in various communities. We’re seeing movement; lot’s of Ned supporters, fewer Joes, and some still undecideds but all who were willing to talk were dissatisfied with Joe and open to Ned. My sense from those I talked to the last two days was that they’re breaking strongly for Ned, and they very definitely want change. This is all anecdotal, but the “wave” seems very credible. Coming back to watch/read the news, it’s depressing to hear about robo-calls, voter suppression, counter-waves — but we didn’t here any of that out there.
This is still doable. And no matter what happens tomorrow, we progressives won. We’ve come farther than anyone expected, and we’re still learning and getting stronger, and we’re not going to go way or give up. This is just the beginning.
egregious @ 66

GREAT to hear from you scarecrow. It sounds as though Bloomberg’s GOP “on the ground” support for Lieberman4Lieberman hasn’t materialized, Joe is “all hat and no cattle.” Stay safe.
File it under: And you thought we had it bad here or a little distraction
I haven’t checked out Haaretz for a few days but there was definitely a hallucinatory quality to the stories in today’s online edition.
The Israeli general staff is preparing for a war with Syria next year, because you know the war with Hezbollah went so well this summer.
Israeli politician Avigdor Lieberman now a member of the government wants a two state solution, one Jewish, one Arab. His twist is he wants the 20% of Israel’s population which is Arab to be made part of any new Palestinian state, whether they like it or not.
Still in comparison this seems more reasonable than Knesset member Benny Elon’s plan to have the US government and the American Jewish community pay $100 billion to send the whole of the Palestinian population to Bulgaria and Bosnia “voluntarily”.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Mazuz decided to wait for Israel’s President Katsav to step down before continuing his investigation of Katsav for rape.
And then there was this. In response to a gay pride march in Jerusalem to be held later this week, Israel’s chief rabbinate issued the following plea for tolerance:
Insert comment on religion and compassion here.
Finally, Israel killed another 6 Palestinians in Gaza bringing the number of dead to 53 since the most recent raid began.
Repeat Calls Spur a Debate Over Tactics
Karyn Hollis, an English professor at Villanova University, just outside Philadelphia, said the same computerized calls had been ringing her telephone as often as five times a day for more than a week.
They all start with a simple, if somewhat ambiguous, statement: “Hello, I’m calling with information about Lois Murphy,” a Pennsylvania Democrat who is the challenger in one of the hottest House races. That opening sounds “kind of positive in tone,” Ms. Hollis said. But the message quickly turns negative, blasting Ms. Murphy’s political views. After she hangs up, the phone rings again later with the same message. And again. And again.

And, of course, WAY too many nested quotes!
Thanks Teddy!I’m in the loop, now!
Whoa! I just caught a Paul Newman commercial for Ned Lamont! I had heard that he had spoken out for Lamont, but not that he did a commercial for him.
Go Paul!
Ziggurat, not to be confused with a Zagnut.

OT= On Smehlman and the early Fla and Missouri vote information. Drudge has posted both the Missouri early vote tabulations (no numbers given) and the recent Florida Sun-Sentinel results. Why? Perhaps Melhman & the Repubs are planning on moving to disqualify votes that were counted before the polls are closed tomorrow. Melhman has indicated that the Dems will try to win the election in the courts. Is this part of the plan – to discount Dems legal actions to counter this move?

Ziggurats can be kind of addictive like nicotine. They can be both filtered and unfiltered. FDL’s are filtered, but you can still roll your own.

I particularly liked this one:

MD-Sen: More dirty tricks
http://www.dailykos.com/
It’s increasingly looking like to me that Maryland is Ground Zero in the GOP play book of dirty tricks. If they are successful there, toss in Tennessee, and that’s the Senate, game over.
All of their wacko talking heads have been pumping Maryland on Cable TV in the last week as a win for them. Mary Matilin, Ole’ 60 Grit, etc. They know.
Richmond @ 129
Well, they can try that tapdance, but the numbers being released are the number received, not ballots counted. In most states, the early voting gets totaled and absentee ballots get counted on election day, not before.
If the `pugs try taking that assertion into court, they’re going to get thrown out–probably bodily–for wasting the judges’ time.

I am a volunteer here in the 4th for Lamont and I have heard the following:
They did not get in touch with everyone who wanted to volunteer tomorrow, Nov. 7th. If you wanted to volunteer but have not been contacted yet do not worry, just come into our office at 25 Van Zant st in Norwalk and we’ll send you out. If you can’t do that, go ahead and drive right to a polling location and stay as long as you can.
Eureka Springs, AR @ 149
I’ll ask Christy at lunch tomorrow.
Excuse me:
Eeeeeeeeeek! Thank you.
SharonW, we are asking for bets on the number of Senate seats gained, and House seats gained. Please don’t make me subtract, it makes me cross. Watertiger hold the record for optimism, that every single seat in the entire Congress will go Dem despite the fact that they are not all up for election. Of course there are seats abandoned for corruption. Maybe watertiger will win after all….
Okay, after reading the proceeding comments to mine, I can see it’s a race outcome guess. D’oh, dopey me!

Please send your $49.99 to the paypal or credit card button at the top of the fdl page. You don’t have to do this thru paypal even if you hae an account w them; when you get to the page asking for your paypal input just click that you don’t have an account. That then takes you to a regular credit card page. Disclaimer: until noon tomorrow I have had no actual contact with anyone from fdl. After that you may consider me corrupted. It happens to the best of us. Oh well.
I don’t know if Jane and Christy lose a little money or a humongous amount of money. They certainly are not getting ahead on fdl income.

SharonW @ 161
CNN coverage starts at 7pm. If they’re smart they’ll start with CHS.
The NYTimes will be running with the GOP harrassing phone call story tomorrow.
So on election day we should be hearing about a major effort on the part of the Karl Rove and the New Ba’ath Party trying to subvert American Democracy.

Anybody in Cali have any thoughts on CA-50? I’m still unbelievably po’d at that district for being lame enough a nearly indicted rethug (Bilbray, R-doesn’t live in district) to replace a convicted rethug (Cunningham, R-Dept of Corrections). If you use CQ’s funky equation, it predicts a very narrow Busby victory if Bush is at 35% but a very narrow Bilbray victory if Bush is at 40%… Polls are in the margin of error with the challenger rallying but most of the MSM cognoscent still have the district labeled in various shades of red.
By the way, what are we voting on (Egregious’ list)? The BOP in the House? Senate?
I think I was the first person at fdl to suggest having contests in general. At least from the period October 2005 onward. I could be wrong, it happens often.

bestcase: we add we add 7 to 52, and really 52 and our Connecticutian friend is left whimpering in the gutter
