Here's the Sunday Talking Head line-up. Read it and…well, just read it and you'll know what to do:
C-Span's Washington Journal: 7:30am – John Mercurio, Hotline, Senior Editor & Mary Plotkin, WTOP Radio – Washington, DC, Political Analyst; 8:45am – Evan Tracey, Campaign Media Analysis Group, CEO; 9:15am – Penny Lee, Democratic Governors Association, Executive Director & Philip Musser, Republican Governors Association, Executive Director.

Barney Frank: D-Massachusetts; Candy Crowley: CNN senior political correspondent; John King: CNN chief national correspondent; Dana Bash: CNN congressional correspondent; Bob Franken: CNN national correspondent.
It is week two of the big creepy photo of Chris Wallace front and center on the FNS website. Be forewarned if you click the link above.
C-Span has some great analysis in the line-up this morning, including thoughts on the governor's races that are far too often overlooked in the discussion — this is where the meat and potatoes work gets done, and Democrats are poised to do very well indeed. Should be fun.
Meet the Press ought to be renamed "Our Big Egos" this morning. Ditto for Face the Nation, with the exception of Stu Rothenberg's analysis, which should be interesting.
ABC's This Week has already gotten some interesting leaks from the Cheney interview, including the following quote from Cheney:
"It may not be popular with the public. It doesn't matter in the sense that we have to continue what we think is right. That's exactly what we're doing. We're not running for office."
Shorter Dead-Eye: "Screw the public, we'll do exactly as we please." Tuesday cannot come soon enough for me. If there were ever an argument for going flat out on GOTV efforts, this is it. It's the United States, Dick, you don't get to rule by fiat. Haven't heard anything about the Dean portion, since he'll no doubt do his interview live. But that ought to be a fascinating moment of follow-up, don't you think?
And CNN has a very interesting line-up. With Hoekstra in the mix, you can bet there will be some CYA tapdancing around the nuke-u-lar moh-rons mess, and a lot of talk about the Saddam Hussein verdict. Well, here's a thought: Saddam has been in custody for months, and on trial, and the violence has only gotten worse in Iraq, hasn't it? Oh, and by the way, where's Osama?
The lovely photo at the top of today's post comes to us from reader T-, who also sent along a couple of additional shots. See if you can figure out why the hummingbirds are doing (which all look like ruby-throats to me, btw…anyone else have a different ID on them?).
Have you guessed yet? How about after seeing this one:
For those that are still guessing, here's the description that T- sent along with the photos:
Hand Feeding Hummingbirds:
This is something I have never seen before, or ever even heard of. This lady lives in a Hummingbird fly zone. As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard. Just for a lark, she took the little red dish and filled it with sugar water and this is the result.
Amazing shots, aren't they? Just gorgeous, like little, live jewels sitting on her hands. I thought something this lovely would be a great way to start this Sunday prior to the election. Hope you all enjoyed them as much as I did — and a huge thank you to reader T- for sending these so we could share them this morning. Thanks much!
For those who have been asking, here is the information that I have from CNN on the election night coverage/blogger event that they are doing, and which TRex and I will be attending (yay, I got to bring a guest along!):
America Votes 2006 Election Night Blog Party
On Election Night, Tuesday, November 7th, CNN is hosting prominent bloggers from across the country – and across the ideological spectrum – to Washington, D.C. to watch returns, blog alongside one another, and share political insights during its live election coverage. Parts of the event will be streamed live on CNN Pipeline and from time to time broadcasted live on CNN's televised Election Night coverage starting at 7 PM E.T. Blogging begins at 4 PM and may continue into the early morning hours. CNN's Internet reporters Abbi Tatton and Jacki Schechner will be joined by bloggers from Captain's Quarters, Huffington Post, Crooks and Liars, Ankle Biting Pundits, Think Progress, National Review Online, Firedoglake, AmericaBlog, Redstate, La Shawn Barber's Corner, MyDD, Townhall and many more for this first-of-its-kind event.
Should be fun — I'll get to meet John Amato and TRex in person for the first time, and I'm looking forward to that quite a bit. Beyond that, I'll be blogging from the event, and commenting, and trying to keep up with all the news as we get it. I'm just wondering if they will have any popcorn…

Simply amazing hummingbird photos, Christy! Thanks for posting them!
I have a corner in my backyard with Mexican bird of paradize, Red Yuca, jasmine, Lantana and purple sage where the Hummingbirds feed throughout the year. In the house behind me, they nest in their Lemon tree. They bathe in my foutain which is a delight to watch them dancing in the water.
Christy,
Awesome Pictures, Awesome story. I would feel honored to have these wonders of nature feeding from my hand.
Thanks for the levity.
Now our job is to send all the chickenhawks home to roost!
When you meet TRex, offer up the republican herd for an appetizer and you will be forever in good graces with the beast.
On another note, I want to thank you and the other miscreants for providing a forum and a tool for the masses to institute change.
This is not over. We will take control of congress and then we will remember and purge the enablers.
This means you….

I could name plenty.
Heres to the GOTV effort.
It must be a landslide!
Congratulations CHS!
I will be watching CNN for you and T-Rex.
Popcorn will be ready.
‘Morning, Christy and FirePups!!
Will have to share these hummingbird pics with my folks; they have quite a number of them at their northern summer home — although I don’t know if they’d cooperate with hand feeding. The males are so aggressive and noisily territorial, I can’t imagine them cooperating.
Cooking soup right now to take to the Dem organization office for lunch after literature drops at 10am this morning. Stracciatelli and bean soup on the menu, followed by phonebanking.
Doubtful I can squeeze in KO at the Book Salon, hope the rest of you can attend for me!!

The Public Editor
Listening to Both Sides, in the Pursuit of Fairness
By BYRON CALAME
GETTING both sides of a story and sorting them out for readers is the basic job of newspaper reporters and editors. This is a key to creating a newspaper that is fair — both to readers and to the people and institutions that are the subjects of stories.
Seeking comment from those written about, especially when they are put in an unfavorable light, is a particularly important aspect of fair coverage. It helps ensure that readers get the most complete and accurate view possible of a newsworthy development. Unfortunately, The Times has had too many cases recently where subjects weren’t given a chance to comment, or the attempt to reach them was insufficient.
Last month, for example, the error in an enterprising story on the Senate race in Connecticut could have been prevented had the principle of fair comment been followed. The article dealt with what it termed the “war of words over the war in Iraq” between the incumbent, Joseph I. Lieberman, who is running as an independent, and Ned Lamont, who upset him in the Democratic primary.

why does this make me feel dirty and ashamed?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..am_verdict
so we successfully shamed and now condemned a leader of a country after we murdered his sons and put all of those demeaning and dastardly pictures on teevee.
I never liked Saddam, but he was THEIR head of state. To humiliate and shame him was their right , not ours. (and it is indeed a very big deal in that culture to shame someone. shame or dishonor does not mean that much in the West, really– just check into the nearest rehab)
If Ramsey Clark calls it a travesty, it is.

Mind boggling. Have a great time!

Oh! Medaka–good to see you!
What’s new?
Good Mornin’ all,
Looks like Georgie Porgie got revenge on Saddam for his daddy. Maybe HW will love him a little more now.
Headed to Church. Ya’ll hold down the fort and do what you can to GOTV!
The one with the tail feathers that have the long white tips is probably a first year bird. The tail feather tips get worn down has they get older. This is one way to guess the age of the birds.
For anyone interested, the CT Network (our version of C-SPAN) is running debates all day today and streaming — at http://www.ctn.state.ct.us/

Not completely OT, I hope…

small anecdote on “the nature”. it’s been quite chilly here in Dresden, off and on, the past ten days. we’ve had a little snow and some strong winds and rain. on thursday, as i left the building where i work i happened to look down and notice a butterfly, shivvering, on the cobblestones near my foot. it was orange/brown with two blue spots on each wing. i picked it up and covered it with my fingers and stuffed it in my jacket pocket as i made my way home. when i got home i put it on a lily plant i have. a while later it had moved over to a window where it stayed until sometime last night. it has disappeared so i’m hoping that it has hibernated in some dark corner and will reappear in the spring….
after we have that democratic house and, even, senate we’ve been working for.
?;-)
Just a question — I tried to leave a reply at the last post downstairs but got a “comments closed” message, and comments have, indeed, been closed. I’ve never seen that before and I’m just curious about it. (It would prevent people from being EPU’d!)
CNN – chimpy will make a statement on saddam verdict at 2:25 ET. No doubt will claim mission has been accomplished.

Good morning all! And now a little Irving Berlin:
WILL WONDERS EVER CEASE!
The right-wing Danbury (CT) News-Times just endorsed Ned Lamont.
And they did it clearly. Succintly. And without hesitation.
Be still my heart!!!
I want to know if we’re going to be able to watch the public hanging of Saddam on a split screen with the public stoning of Pastor Ted.
And why just a hanging? Why not drawn and quartered?
You know, in keeping with our medieval theme of late: torture, indefinite detainment, etc.

hey, egregious!
not much new here, except that i finally have time to myself. i’ve had houseguests coming and going for the past 6 weeks — i’m exhausted. apologies for lapsing with the dialogue! things are well, i’m walking lots, biking a bit, blogging textiles, and — get this — i just might get to meet HH the DL this week, as he is supposed to address the students at my high school!
i’m checking in here a bit more regularly now. and still have trouble keeping up with all the brilliance!
i hope you’re well and happy!
When George Bush should have been fighting the war on terror, he detoured to settle a family grudge with Saddam. He lied us into a false war.
When George Bush should have been fighting the war on disease, he declared war on victims of disease instead.
When George Bush should have been protecting our own home and hearth, he ignored illegal immigration so his business buddies could break the backs of American labor.
When George Bush should have been restoring our cities after natural disaster, he flew over and played air guitar instead.
George Bush and Dick Cheney thumb their noses at American democracy and plan to do to Social Security what they’ve done for everything else…destroy it and leave it in shambles.
These are the stakes. Re-electing Rubbers will give them cover to stay the course on their destroy American democracy project. This is why it’s so important what we can do for our country:
Get Out Our Vote.
Good morning folks. Those pictures are terrific, thanks CHS and T-!

Editorial
The Difference Two Years Made
On Tuesday, when this page runs the list of people it has endorsed for election, we will include no Republican Congressional candidates for the first time in our memory. Although Times editorials tend to agree with Democrats on national policy, we have proudly and consistently endorsed a long line of moderate Republicans, particularly for the House. Our only political loyalty is to making the two-party system as vital and responsible as possible.
That is why things are different this year.
To begin with, the Republican majority that has run the House — and for the most part, the Senate — during President Bush’s tenure has done a terrible job on the basics. Its tax-cutting-above-all-else has wrecked the budget, hobbled the middle class and endangered the long-term economy. It has refused to face up to global warming and done pathetically little about the country’s dependence on foreign oil.
Republican leaders, particularly in the House, have developed toxic symptoms of an overconfident majority that has been too long in power. They methodically shut the opposition — and even the more moderate members of their own party — out of any role in the legislative process. Their only mission seems to be self-perpetuation.
(snip)
For us, the breaking point came over the Republicans’ attempt to undermine the fundamental checks and balances that have safeguarded American democracy since its inception. The fact that the White House, House and Senate are all controlled by one party is not a threat to the balance of powers, as long as everyone understands the roles assigned to each by the Constitution. But over the past two years, the White House has made it clear that it claims sweeping powers that go well beyond any acceptable limits. Rather than doing their duty to curb these excesses, the Congressional Republicans have dedicated themselves to removing restraints on the president’s ability to do whatever he wants. To paraphrase Tom DeLay, the Republicans feel you don’t need to have oversight hearings if your party is in control of everything.

dean has to challenge cheney even though chenet won’t be there
he’s GOT to say something like;
THE REPUBLICANS put saddam in power, the REPUBLICANS embraced him WHILE WE KNEW HE WAS DOING THE VERY CRIMES HE IS CONVICTED OF TODAY
he has to say;
the DEMOCRATS removed the weapons the republicans gave him, the DEMOCRATS removed the threat
the REPUBLICANS have TRASHED the armed forces of the united states of America, they have ABUSED our children FOR THE SICK MECHINATIONS OF THEIR SICK FRATERNITY
the republicans attacked IRAQ fro what afghainistan did, they captured SADDAM for what OSAMAM BIN LADEN DID
the REPUBLICANS OWN PAPERS TELLS US THEY HAVE CREATED MORE TERRORISTS
the REPUBLICANS have grown government EXPONENTIALLY, we how china A TRILLION DOLLARS, the REPUBLICANS took funds earmarked to PROTECT OUR PORTS and gave those funds TO PEOPLE SO WEALTHY THEY WILL NEVER SPEND IT
it’s time we REBUILT America, it’s time we REBUILT the RESPECT this admiinistration has TRASHED”
you know, stuff like that.

Marian, that link doesn’t work for me.
Hummingbirds are beautiful birds. Please don’t link them with the buzzards that populate the Sunday AM windstorms. In particular, The Timmeh Hour this week should beat anything Lewis Carroll had to offer.
Here’s hoping Dean and Halperin appear in the same segment on The Fabulous George Comedy Hour. Love to see the good doctor rip Markie a new one. In a medically sound manner, of course.
I like your talking points for Dr. Dean, me to me, but Afghanistan and her people did not attack us.

ya, I should have said “for what came from afghanistan”
but you get the idea
OT – I read last night that the Clinton DoD had studied an invasion of Iraq in ‘99 and concluded it would take at least 400,000 troops. There is a link now at Josh’s site. Does anybody recall that being made public back during the build up to war? (Not that msm would have paid attention.) What angers me is that the Clintons both backed Georgie’s endeavor, despite their own study.

HEY FIREDOGS! What are you doing Tuesday? I will be poll watching, and I have already voted. I did vote against the soccer fields. $75 million for soccer fields !!! I do not think so.)
But we have lots of news today. And that includes Keith Olbermann. There is an article by Aaron Barnhart in the Kansas City Star but it has not been posted yet.
One of the worst persons in the world-Bill the Liar from Fox News, and his new friend, and another worst person in the world-Phill Kline Kansas Attorney General ( vs. Paul Morrison) has been posted:
Attorneys for abortion clinics targeted by Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline said Saturday that they want an investigation into concerns that patients’ medical records may have been made public. The source of the attorneys’ concern was statements made Friday evening on the Fox News Channel show The OReilly Factor” on which Kline appeared as a guest. Host Bill OReilly told a national audience that a ’source inside’ told the show that Kansas physician George Tiller performs late-term abortion when a patient is depressed. OReilly called that “executing babies”
In a statement Saturday, attorneys for the clinics said they will ask the state Supreme Court on Monday to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Kline and OReilly. Calling the accusations “absolutely false,” they also want the prosecutor to seize medical files obtained by Kline.
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/…..932453.htm
Sherriene Jones, communications director for the attorney general, said if Kline’s camp wanted to make the records a campaign issue, “we would have been telling people the judge had the records in August.” Kline requested abortion records of 90 patients, looking for cases where a child was raped and it wasn’t reported or where a late-term abortion was performed. It could be weeks, maybe months, before the complete review is finished.
“The women and children are not under investigation,” Jones said. “The child rapists, abortion doctors and confirming doctors are…It took the attorney general’s office two years to get these medical records, you can be rest assured the records will be reviewed very carefully.”

Perhaps I should have said detritus. I have been pretty sceptical until recently, but I think there is enough of a wave to overcome the evote problem at this stage. I just got an email this morning from a group with a pack of lawyers and poll watchers in 37 counties all over the US who are locked and loaded for any trouble.
GdP @ 39, the Clintons and a lot of other people knew about the study. If no one mentioned it when it just might have helped to avoid the Iraq catastrophe, let’s hear them explain their criminal silence. Oh, yeah, for all the good it will do now. The elected Democrats had better be thinking about doing their jobs and forget about the goodies they can gather before the next election might just trip them up. Grandma Pelosi must keep the reps feet to the fire and the Senate had better get an honest broker riding herd on that crew.
This time of year, I get to finally enjoy living 150 miles south of

Timmeh brings up the VF article and Dole goes into full spin mode. She doesn’t want to talk about Adelman or Perle. No, her source of authority is the third person mentioned in the article. David Frum. The frickin’ speechwriter.
Fargo’s Forum newspaper has a great op-ed by Jane Ahlin this morning saying only a Democratic Congress can force this President to deal with the realities in Iraq. A great read. A source she cites: Dick Armey, who grew up in ND. And the Forum endorsed both Conrad and Pomeroy in their races.

me to me @ 33
me to me, everytime I get nervous about what needs to be said (by Dean, in particular), I go back and view this video, where Dean shuts Katy Couric down. He thinks fast on his feet and has irrefutable answers. Though the last part is the best, I also enjoy his answers when Katy gives him 30 seconds to say what the Democratic party stands for. He didn’t even blink, nor did he stutter. He gave her the 30 seconds and made the most succinct statement of progressive values I had ever heard up to that point.
I had the chance to see one on a nest one time in the San Juans … that was nothing short of amazing too !

(Several other Connecticut Newspapers have as well – The Meriden Record-Journal and The Westport/Stamford/Greenwich News.)
I have found, at this point, that 95% of the population in CT have made up their minds – though going door to door we do find some who willing to chat and are persuadable.
My canvassing partner also included Republican voters in his canvassing effort (I don’t have the stomach for it) and an amazing number of them are either voting for Ned or voting for Schlesinger (I’m still betting he gets around 15%)
Did not see Bloomberg’s mighty army of canvassers – no one has. Someone from the campaign said it was basically part of the head game going on between the two campaigns.
People are sick & tired of political ad, political mailings, phone calls and, yes, canvassing. Connecticut is not used to being ground zero.
Code Pink is still focusing on Lieberman the warmonger. They have an “event” planned for him today in Hartford…
Join us in Hartford as we plan a big visual display on Sunday, November 5. We will be outside Joe Lieberman’s HQ in Hartford with a visual to keep Iraq in the conversation.
Shoes, like this pair representing the 3-year-old daughter of Hussein al Tarish, help people visualize unspeakable pain and suffering this war has inflicted on the Iraqi people. We hope to have rows of shoes to represent the dead in Iraq since our invasion and occupation. The banner will say WALK IN THEIR SHOES give peace a vote.
Outside Joe Lieberman’s HQ in Hartford, CT
Where: Meet across the street from the HQ (HQ address is 10 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT 06106)
When: Sunday, November 5th meet at 4pm

Cheney: I Would ‘Probably Not’ Testify Before Congress, Even If Subpoenaed
This morning on ABC, George Stephanopoulos asked Vice President Cheney if he would testify before Congress if he was subpoenaed. Cheney said “probably not in the sense at that vice president and president and constitutional officers don’t appear before the Congress.”
P.S. I wanted to tell you all about my voting experience in this very Red area last week: I walked in to an overcrowded room and was asked, “Do you want a paper or electronic ballot?” My jaw dropped, lieterally. Of course I took paper, along with a lot of others in the room. Later I read that the reason we had both types was that the county did not have enough money to completely switch to e-voting. Being tight with the pork works out sometimes.
Medaka–
Thanks for the update, just glad to hear you are doing ok. I’m same as ever, doing a little bit better on being honest with myself.
But my manicurist is gonna give me a scolding when she sees what I’ve done to my poor nails the last couple weeks :)

Hummingbirds signify hope to me.
Butterflies do too.
all winged creatures.
They work hard, flapping their wings and making life happen by eating and dropping seeds and pollinating our earth.
They work much harder than dubya.
P.S. Fish are cool, too.
I forget exactly when- was it 8 mths. ago?- the line was that the Saddaam trial was being delayed for “security” reasons to November.
It was pretty clear at the time whose “security” they were concerned with, but the sheer audacity of Bush admin. hypocrisy still manages to shock. Who says justice delayed is justice denied, right?
you know what?
if cheney is claiming he won’t appear under subpoena that means he knows the supreme court will back that point of view
he’s gonna have to be threatened with impeachment, NOT a supreme court challenge
the dems have to be prepared for that IMMEDIATELY, and NOT take it through the courts
Hummingbirds. They’ve left Minnesota as any sensible creature does between October and May. I wrote about them earlier this fall:
A couple of days ago, we were eating dinner when one of “our” tiny hummingbirds perched at the window feeder. She seemed to be staring back at us. Given our eyeball ratio, it was hard to tell if we were making eye contact. But it felt that way. She hung around for quite a while. Longer than usual. I knew she was saying goodbye. Getting ready for the long migration south. And as I became more certain that she was really leaving, big tears plopped onto my pork chops. Suddenly, she flew away. She has not been back.
Yesterday, I brought in the hummingbird feeders. It was time for the sad annual ritual of emptying, cleaning and putting them away until spring.
I think the hummingbirds will be back. I know they’ll be back.
Hummingbirds give me hope.
In this weekend of occasional hopelessness, sometimes the smallest things can revive our spirits. Thanks for this, Christy.
Let’s go get ‘em, folks!
Here’s a couple of Saddam verdict stories:
Reuters, and A.P..
Neither of them mentions that the verdict was originally scheduled for October 16, and no reason for postponing it until November 5 was ever given.
Meanwhile, the Republican Foley investigation? Oh, it’ll be out someday. Someday after November 7, that is.
Christy – I got to meet TRex last night – he is adorable (for a 60 foot tyrannosaurus). Also finally got to meet selise, scarecrow, SharonW and tommy yum.
We had a great time at Ned’s final rally. Tommy’s group rocked and the whole crowd was singing “Had Enough” at the top of their lungs. At one point, as Ned arrived, they started playing the theme to Rocky. I think it’s hard to remember where Ned started out a little over a year ago, and where he is now. Amazing to watch real democracy in progress.
After the event, many of us went to dinner at Sullivan’s. Got to meet Matt Stoller, spazeboy and, of course, CTBob and his lovely wife.
Win, lose or draw – Ned has had amazing people working to help him get elected. I am so impressed by folks like selise, RevDeb, scarecrow, xyz, VG, Jane and all the other firepups who have come from other states to give their time and talent to help Ned. I’ll remember that the next time Lieberliar makes a derogatory crack about people power.

It’s possible, but you need patience, at least at our house. We’re not in that incredibly busy migration fly-zone, but we always have those sweeties nesting in the summer.
I have had them feed from a feeder I was holding, but only when it had been taken down for awhile to refill, & they were REALLY glad to see it again(!)
Even if they won’t feed right from your hand, these guys are amazingly tame. We hang feeders from the eaves of the house right next to our windows. They just ignore us, except to hover right at the window and stare-down the cats inside, before taking a sip of nectar.
As for peaceful???? NOT! Never met such feisty, fierce-tempered birds in my life! They’re really nasty defending their food sources in the summer; you can actually hear them hit eachother in the air, HARD.
Sure are cuter than that face-shooter, though, nasty-temper & all ;->
Oh. In January, can we PULLLEEEEZE start impeachment proceedings agnst deadeye ASAP?????

Another Hamas Peace Plan Ignored
“And the Israeli public relations machinery is working as effectively as ever to shape U.S. public opinion, too. The latest Hamas offer of hudna, like the ones before it, have been totally ignored in the U.S. media. If Israel had offered a radical new peace plan for the Middle East, it would have been headline news everywhere. But Ahmed Yousef’s proposal got absolutely zero coverage. So very few Americans are even aware that the Palestinians have once again tried to push open the door to peace, only to have the Israelis slam it shut again.”
“This offer of hudna is no ruse, as some assert, to strengthen our military machine,” Yousef pleaded. And he offered several reasons to believe it: “A hudna is recognized in Islamic jurisprudence as a legitimate and binding contract. . It goes back to the Koran itself. . When Hamas gives its word to an international agreement, it does so in the name of God and will therefore keep its word. Hamas has honored its previous cease-fires, as Israelis grudgingly note with the oft-heard words, ‘At least with Hamas they mean what they say.’”

You’re lucky, you haven’t missed anything of interest. Brooks is behind the NYTimes “select” money firewall. The New York Times doesn’t seem to realize, not only will I not pay money to read Bobo, they would actually have to send money to me, to compensate me for the time wasted on his drivel, same goes for the dumb little rich boy Fried(brain)man.
If the Times could figure out a reduced rate which would only give me access to Rich, Krugman and Dowd, we could talk about it. As it is I just save the time my masochistic nature would make me waste reading those idiots, Tom and David.

Trial ‘proof that you’ve got an independent judiciary in Iraq,’ Snow says
I don’t really have a problem with the Saddam verdict. But “independent judiciary”? And where was this “trial” held? Inside the American controlled “Green Zone”. Would that Bush, Cheney, Rove, the A.G., Rice and others could be tried for the murders they are responsible for in Iraq, Lebanon, the Gaza and elsewhere.

See, that’s the beauty of taking the house and (oh please oh please) the senate…the subpoenas arrive and the masters at the WH disdainfully reject them as beneath their Royal Privilege, the right wing talking machine floods the airwaves with their blame-everyone-else lies, and—
America hurls. 73% or America continues to be turned off, disgusted, and maybe even angry at the ass*oles in the White House and all the GOP defending them.
Meanwhile Rumsfeld and the WH continue the war, fighting a Dem-lead congress all the way, and that 73% of America turns them off.
If (big if) we can find and promote a good presidential candidate, and find some more excellent congressional candidates, well—

MTP: they’re finally discussing the Iraq war (thanks to the Vanity Fair article where several Repubs have come out saying that the war was a terrible mistake). I wonder if they’ll ever discuss the calls for Rummy’s resignation.
Related to this, I was amazed by this poll on MSNBC.com, asking whether or not Rumsfeld should step down/be removed from his job:
Wow, 12% of respondents could answer that “he has ably overseen” these wars? They made the poll questions rather divisive, but I still am amazed that hundreds of people could check the “no” button when it requires saying Rumsfeld has “ably” managed these wars.

I have to say, when I awoke to my clock radio (CBS radio) saying that Saddam Hussein had been convicted and sentenced to death for killing 148 Shiites in 1982, I couldn’t help but think about how many people have been killed in Iraq every month since we invaded. I couldn’t help but think of the genocide that is happening in that country as a result of our country’s brazen, unjustifiable actions to overthrow a sovereign government and our tragic inability to manage the war we created.
It’s good to see that Saddam gets justice for his wrongdoings. However, the human price paid in exchange for Saddam’s conviction makes my stomach turn.

The hummingbird picture reminds me of a restaurant near the entrance to Sequoia National Park here in CA. It’s called Three Rivers Inn, I think. Stretched across the lenght of their dining patio is a wire withbright red hummingbird feeders every 3 feet.
The birds are really quite aggressive about protecting their favorite feeder/turf. They flit and fly all around the deck and the restaurant has removed all red plates and bowls from their inventory, as the birds would fly to the tables if they were bumped from the feeders. I keep an eye out for hummingbirds falling into bowls of soup whenever we eat there, but so far no luck.

ah, those beautiful little jewels, what a delight to see in the morning. Lovely and so tough – I’ve seen them fighting over the hummingbird mint bush, with one emerald hummer lurking in the apple tree, his plumage blending in so well if I took my eyes off him for a second I couldn’t find him again until he came roaring out again to chase off an interloper.
Right now, I’m still suffering from a vicious cold and fever, my head is filled with liquid concrete and all my bones ache. But I don’t think I’ll die, and yesterday dying seemed like a good alternative to the suffering.
In other birding news, I’ve got a young male Northern Flicker drilling his way into my house, right through the brand-new stucco, under the new roof eaves that the contractors finished a week ago. The noise he’s making is astounding. I can hear it even with the concrete sloshing around in my skull. It sounds like Buddy Rich on a full drum kit.
I don’t want to chase him away. The development in my area has taken down so many trees and eaten up so much habitat, he’s just looking for a place to live.
I’ve ordered a flicker box from the local Wild Birds, should be in sometime this week. My kind-hearted contractor has said he’ll patch the stucco and hang the box as soon as it arrives.
Ya’ll have a lovely day, and do what you can to help take our country forward to a brighter day. If I continue to recover, Monday and Tuesday I’ll just work hard for my local Dems until I fall over.

The News The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has launched an inquiry into the advertising and promotion of Zicam Cold Remedy and half a dozen similar over-the-counter cold products manufactured by Matrixx Initiatives of Phoenix. The company disclosed the investigation last week in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission, saying it was designed to determine whether Matrixx engaged in “unfair or deceptive acts or practices.” Matrixx has been asked to provide information to the agency by April 27.

Zicam, the popular Zinc nasal cold gel, has been linked to a condition known as Anosmia. Anosmics cannot detect scents or smells of any kind, and the loss of smell greatly reduces the sense of taste. In addition to not being able to taste food, Anosmia is a dangerous condition, as the sense of smell and taste alert people to fires, poisonous fumes, and leaking gas.

Two things going on in Ohio. First, a lot more people have had enough because of a number of state scandals, in addition to federal ones.
Counteracting that are voting suppression efforts, voting machine problems up the wazoo, Blackwell still sec.state, and some nifty new laws that prevent recounts. Those new laws were ‘passed’ by referendum by about 2/1 when the polls showed them losing by 2/1. Just a coincidence I’m sure.
My mother, lifelong Republican, is asking her friends to vote Dem for checks and balances.
Hanging. We’re going to hang Saddam. Now, I want to state that I think he’s a purely evil individual who led a government that ranks among the most brutal on Earth. What does hanging say about us, though. Yeah, sure, it was an Iraqi court that convicted and sentenced him but we’ll all know it was really the US that was in control. What happened to America? Remember when we were doing our best to be a moral model for the world? Whatever happened to all that? This is just one more illustration of how far we’ve fallen under Bush. I don’t support the death penalty, but if I did, I would think there were preferrable ways to kill him if they’re set on doing so.
Elizabeth Dole on Meet the Press “……..the Republicans don’t have talking points, and are not a rubber stamp.” Who’s she kidding? If that bloviating lunatic ever had an independent thought it would die of loneliness.

Zinc Product Ruined Users’
Sense of SmellBy Sandra G. Boodman

The manufacturer of Zicam Cold Remedy has agreed to pay $12 million to settle
340 lawsuits brought by consumers who claim the popular over-the-counter zinc
nasal gel damaged or destroyed their sense of smell. The Phoenix-based
manufacturer, Matrixx Initatives, says the agreement announced Jan. 19 is not an
admission of liability, but rather an effort to end most of the litigation over the
homeopathic remedy.
coz- if their sense of smell was damaged it may have been bec. of zinc overdose, or something else in the spray. Zn is a cofactor for olfactory receptors- needed for them to function properly.

it had just broke on air. now on cnn.com at top – “Scandal-hit evangelical pastor Ted Haggard in a letter to his congregation confesses to a “lifelong” sexual problem.”
egregious, you are a wonderful human.
ted haggard is not and he used the pulpit to preach hate hidden inside religion… he got exposed and he lied and he and his ilk have tried to hijack our country with their hatred and their Jesus Kamps.
he got caught, but he knew what he was doing.
I hope the same happens to dubya and dick et al.
I am about to start day 2 of GOTV so I’ll miss Keith Olbermann. I bet there are many of us who can not be here to partake in the discussion of his book, because we are out doing the GOTV. Tell Keith I think he’s the best and on the cutting edge of journalism. I look forward to how he will cover the corrupt Congressman Doolittle – could you pass this on to Keith for me? Thanks!

– IVE BEEN IN THE CORNER HERE, READING. NOW, I’D LIKE TO ADVANCE THESE IDEAS — WHEN YOU BUY AN AUTOMOBILE THAT IS A LEMON, THERES A LAW ALLOWING YOU TO TAKE IT BACK — THE LEMON LAW — [ FOR THE SAKE OF MY DISCUSSION ] SO, WHY, WHEN DIEBOLD CAN MAKE ATMs WHO SPIT A PAPER TRAIL OUT — CAN WE NOT TURN IN EVERY DAMMNED DIEBOLD MACHINE AS DEFECTIVE? WHY DID ALL THE LEMMINGS BUY DIEBLOLD THE DISABLER?? THE STATE OF AFFAIRS REQUIRING LAWYERS IN SUCH NUMBERS SURELY PORTENDS THEFT, DISHONESTY, AND CROOKEDNESS WORSE THAN 2000 AND 2004 — WHAT WILL BE CHANGED BEFORE 2008? IT ISNT LIKE WE DONT HAVE A CLUE. WHEN WE WIN TUESDAY, I HOPE WE REMEMBER THE DIEBOLDS EXPLOITATION. ARE WE SO SPEED IT UP HUNGRY WE CANT GO BACK TO PAPER BALLOTS AND SKIP THE WHIZZ BANGING COUNT TO HAVE, IN THREE HOURS, OUR TELEVISION RESULTS? RECOUNTS? NONE OF THEM WORKED IN ANY SATISFYING WAY. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? IF YOU CANT BE VOTED IN, MAKES THE REST OF THE EFFORTS MOOT. IM REMINDED OF MY DAD TELLING ME ABOUT LYING: “YOU’RE LIKE A COYOTEE, CAUGHT IN A TRAP. YOU’VE CHEWED OFF THREE LEGS AND YOURE STILL IN THE TRAP. DIEBOLD IS THE TRAP.
Delbert at 218 — Just FYI, typing your comment entirely in all caps is considered shouting. If you could please use regular font, and only use all caps for emphasis, it would be much appreciated. Sometimes folks don’t realize this, and I thought you’d want to know. :)
Elizabeth Dole’s fixed smile, condescending attitude, and not-to-be interrupted jabbering all add up to one annoying talking head.
GHenry at 220 — every time I see her interviewed, I think about what a lovely time dinner with the Dole’s must be. Blergh. You get that “plastic person” feel from her, don’t you?
Unfortunately, Pastor Ted is apologizing for being gay. Might as well be apologizing for being black or Latino, or Italian, aw hell why not Irish. An apology for being a hypocrite and trying to cripple the social advancement of a class people of which you are a member would be nice. Whether you believe in Karma or the scriptures “as you sew, so shall ye reap,” I always found it interesting that when George Wallace was shot, he ended up in a wheelchair instead of dead. The perfect challenge for a man who crippled the opportunities for so many people. He must of thought so too, because he sure changed his tune. So Ted, your sin is hypocrisy, maybe your challenge should be to undo some of the damage you’ve caused.
I can slam Rham with the best of them, but we need to give him credit for his efforts today.
“Just for a lark”? Now really…

Sha – that’s wonderful. Wasn’t it great!!!!
I think everyone feels good about putting their heart & soul into the campaign. It starts from the top, down. Ned is simply a class act.
