Tommy and Ken of the Squirrel Nut Zippers appeared for Ned Lamont last night in New Haven, and today they're appearing for Chris Murphy (I spoke with Tommy and he said there was one mic and another plugged into the wall — he says their touring conditions may be a bit remedial but they are determined to have a good time.)
Please stop by in the comments and thank them for taking the time to do this. It was a huge morale booster and the spirit of the show was so hopeful, so good natured and fun it was infectious. TRex was there also and will no doubt have more tonight, but I'm thinking we need more of this for '08. A lot more. How about you?
(video thanks to Matt Stoller)

Tommy and Ken!
Squirrel Nut Zippers!
We’ve had enough!
Olbermann will be here at 2pm pt/5pm et sharp.
Tommy and Ken of the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
The cat’s pj’s. THANKS.
Thanks Jane. Appreciate it.
GO NED!!!
Thank you Tommy and Ken and indeed we need more of this in ‘08.
I wish like hell my band could play for a Ned crowd. CT’s a long way from California…and we’re not famous…but we’re good. ;)
Great clip. Makes me wish I could see y’all in person.
Back to phonebanking now.
Keep barnstorming for democracy, bebes.
Bravo!

NED !!
Last night I was watching the movie A Life Less Ordinary, and all of a sudden I heard “the had enough song”! It was a gas.
tommy and the band!!!!!!!!!!
you guys seriously rock!!!!!
You guys pulled out all the stops. A great rendition of “Had Enough?”
Gotta say Tommy, you look GOOD in a buzz cut!
Ken can really play! Who knew?
Oh, and all you nutmeg staters? PLEASE throw Joe out a second time!!!
We were there last night and had a great time.
It was so good to be with upbeat, happy excited people – excited and united around a common cause…IT’S TIME TO THROW JOE LIEBERMAN OUT!
Go Ned.
Too fun! Man, I wish I were there…Tom and Ken were clearly having a blast, and the crowd was, too. :) That “throw him out a second time” line is my all-time favorite. hehehehe
It was cold, but the energy warmed us all. (plus the Stand For Change hats that were passed out to the crowd helped too)
Ned was so gracious, bowing in gratitude for all the support he’s getting. We’ll take him to the finish line on Tuesday. Rock the vote!
Excellent set guys! I’ve sent this thing to about a gazillion friends and relatives over the past month. Who wrote this tune? Was it Rickie Lee Jones? Just curios.
Tommy your Esten haircut is really cute. I think it’ll start a fad.
New lyrics! Would like to see them written down for us slow people :)
Great feeling to wake up to…thank you’s to the Zippers and Trex and Jane and Christy. Would like to add (off thread) if I may, in the calling to voters I’ve been doing for the past week, I’m finding that people in the midwest are not very well informed. They blame “them Korean people” for various troubles and say the wierdest stuff to me as to why they are or are not voting for certain candidates. Somehow I feel the candidates messages are not getting through and it is very frustrating because honestly I don’t know where to start to correct misconceptions.
I got a sweet little note of thank you (which I will definitly save) from Diane Benson who is running against Don Young in Alaska. Charming. We could be so lucky to have her representing Alaska.
Great post Jane, but did you mean to say morale booster rather than moral booster?
Given the total meltdown true confession of Ted Haggart, wonder how many Republican wives are looking at their political/sanctimonious anti-gay ranting spouses and saying, hmmmmm, is he deceiving me? Just a thought….
{{{{{tommy and ken}}}}}
Go NED!
Tommy and Ken, THANK YOU!
OT kind of — re Bush’s statement at the plane this morning: he looks like sh*t. Has his hair gone completely white?
OK at 20 — Tom and Ken wrote it. :)
Oklahoma kiddo @ 20
The tune is an old SNZ hit “Put a lid on it”. Lyrics were re-written by tommy and ken. They asked Howie who would be good to sing the lead, and Howie got Rickie on board. Full story at this link: http://downwithtyranny.blogspo…..hange.html
wow, jackie, you fast linkee!
Yee-Friggin-Ha !!!
thanks Tommy and Ken – could actually sense the energy and love from those boys !
Thanks for posting Jane – was also taking a quick break from phone-banking – started w/ a party of 6 yesterday, we have 9 today – our boss is providing pizza and drinks – the kidz caught the fever and our pushing each other towards 1200 calls – holy laptops batgirl !
back to work – Go Dogs Go !
And I keep on fighting for the things I want
Though I know that when you’re dead you can’t
But I’d rather be a free man in my grave
Than living as a puppet or a slave

Hey, I have it bookmarked. Send it to radio stations and news outlets for the Blue America thing. So, in the vein of full disclosure, a’la Ted Haggard: I cheated!
Tommy and Ken, BRAVO! I love this song. I’d love to hear an Ohio version…so much good material, it would be hard to get it all into a song.
Jacqrat!
Not content with subverting democracy in the last NH election. The NRCC is back to slimy flithy dirty tricks in NH using robocalls again.
They have a message that sounds like it is from Democratic congressional candidate Paul Hodes that repeatedly dials numbers and causes people to think that they are being harrassed by the Democrats.
They are intent on stealing this race and turning this nation into a banana republic.
I am sick of them all. Dick Bag Darth Cheney, Twitchy Bush, lying Rove, facelifted loudmouth Liddy Dole.
The lying Neo-cons, the pervert priests and smarmy ministers.
Please make them stop.

Since you brought up The Reverend Ted, Jackie, I have to post this blog’s glamour shots of the New Life Church’s young male staff members:

Oh so inspiring – Ned Lamont must be thrilled – great work everyone! Back to phone banking before Keith comes on. Those wonderful MoveOn folks make it so easy so if you haven’t signed up please do for this is much to do between now and Tuesday!
Where was the study done that showed strongly anti-gay men were excited by naked men and normal men were not (statistically speaking)? I had thought it was a university in GA but can’t find a reference.
Y’know, YouTube and dial-up is like waiting for the elevator in the lobby of the Fourth Circle of Hell…. :(
Normal hetro men or normal gay men?
start_beating_around_the_bush @ 49
montag @ 50
Montag, been there. Done that. When I evacuated to alabama, I spent 9 months on dial-up. I was on a waiting list for dsl, but, hey…the list was long and it was very rural.
This may be the researcher.

Terrific news. Thanks for the update.
Well, if tunes could win elections, this one would be in the bag. :) Great stuff.

thank you
Haggard said yesterday he bought meth and got a massage from the male escort, but did not have sex with him.
Haggard today confessed to “sexual immorality.”
What’s next–that he seduced underage choir boys? Then on to rehab…
That choir director’s pix… Speaking as a tenor, you just don’t have a decent choir if you’re going to draw the line, ya’ know?
“The fact is I am guilty of sexual immorality. And I take responsibility for the entire problem. I am a deceiver and a liar. There’s a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I have been warring against it for all of my adult life,” he said.
neurophius @ 57
Normal hetro.
raven @ 51
@49 I don’t have the link, but I think the research was done at the Univ. of Georgia and published in 1995(?). The study used penile plethysmography to evaluate a subjects response to gay erotic pictures. The results showed that men who expressed strong anti-gay feelings on a pre-study interview were more likely to respond to gay porn.
Watertiger’s offering a mighty fine Face The Snark upstairs.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Squirrel Nut Zippers (and to Rickie Lee Jones)! Let’s use the song again in ‘08, with the same band, and on to victory!
Thanks, that does sound right. I saw it on CNN or Yahoo or some other news page in the past year or so. Maybe they included Zell and Ralph in the study.

Sweet. Just went running into the other room cuz I heard…”Have you had enough…” It was Carol Voisin’s ad!
Thanks, guys. This little ditty plays through my head, a LOT, but Rickie Lee is usually singing. Your anthem for change has brought me a smile many times throughout this campaign.
Back to call for change! Thanx

Not just face-lifted, honey, that bloviating bitch has had cheek and chin implants and likely more, but that’s all that was showing. Probably had va-jay-jay work done, too. Which I didn’t even know existed until I ran into this site:

I love this song, and it looks like everyone was having such a great time. Thanks, guys.
DAMMIT!!
I was going to use this clip tonight for Late Nite.
CURSE YOU, HAMSHER!!
SOL, TRex
Late Nite is a different crowd. I wouldn’t mind seeing it again. Great clip.
Tommy and Ken – thanks so much for coming all the way to CT to play at our Ned celebration. You guys rock – everyone was swaying, dancing and singing (and you were much better than the canned music -though the Rocky theme was pretty funny)
Was wonderful to see everyone and feel all the energy going into the final stretch.
Keep the faith and keep on doing the GOTV work

I’m thrilled to see my pals Tom and Ken getting the love for stepping up. They’ve earned it. But they’re not Squirrel Nut Zippers … they’re “formerly of the Squirrel Nut Zippers”. Some bloggers seem to be getting this wrong today, so I thought I’d point it out. They’d probably tell you the same thing.
Ken took my picture with the Kiss float last night! THANKS, KEN!!!!
And thank you SO MUCH for coming to New Haven in support of Ned. It was a great night, in no small part thanks to you.
GO NED!
I’m glad I bought your CDs. Thanks for helping your country, and us.
