From Merriam-Webster Online:
projection: 6 a : the act of perceiving a mental object as spatially and sensibly objective; also : something so perceived b : the attribution of one's own ideas, feelings, or attitudes to other people or to objects; especially : the externalization of blame, guilt, or responsibility as a defense against anxiety.
The word "projection" has become a part of the pop psychology lexicon. Most of us know what it means and most of us are aware of it when we see it. It's high on the list of techniques to deploy when engaged in Rovian political combat. "Attack your opponent for your own moral and ethical failings. Blather, rinse, repeat."
Lately, though, with so much naked hypocrisy in the news, what with Reich Wing Congressmen getting busted for stalking teenage boys, Curt Weldon (who isn't half so paranoid as he is crooked) screaming that he's being unfairly railroaded by a bunch of corrupt political operatives (HA!), and men like Tom DeLay declaring themselves to be suffering at the hands of a vicious partisan hatchet job (double HA!) when in fact, he's just being called to account for his own partisan hackery and political manuevering, well, I thought we might revisit this topic tonight and discuss how it relates to some matters that are near and dear to our own hearts.
Thank freaking god for Ted Haggard, by the way, and his inability to resist drugs and dick. I thought we'd NEVER hear the end of John Kerry's political gaffe last week, his "botched joke" that ultimately meant nothing, pertained to nothing and ultimately should have gone nowhere (rather like his 2004 campaign, hey!). The Great Reich Wing Stink Machine just grabbed on to that and shook it 'til the stuffing flew out, didn't they? Of course, the real reason they did that was to deny the Great Steps Backward the situation in Iraq took over the course of those days and to fill the news cycle with a bunch of bullshit noise in these crucial pre-election broadcast hours. But Katie, bar the door, we've got another Big Gay Scandal, and as we all know, that trumps everything in corporate news. Gay sex and hard drugs or substantive debate on the War in Iraq? Dude. You have to ask?
And, oh, lordy, this time it's even better than a Republican politician. It's a Talibangelical preacher, the President of the National Association of Evangelicals! Mmmmmmm-mm! Hypocri-licious!! The brightest, hottest rising Talibangelical star, now reduced to a plummeting cinder. Gotta love it.
Of course, Haggard is denying it. Sorta. Well, maybe kinda not really. He says he bought the drugs and threw them away. (Right, threw them away up his nose!) He says he was only seeing that gay hooker for "massages". (Cos of course, everybody knows that the best place to go to find a massage therapist is rentboy.com. But you know, not all insurance companies will pay for massage, so sometimes you have to make do!)
Of course, the very thing that makes this particular scandal so delicious is that Haggard himself has authored some particularly viciously homophobic legislation that's coming up on the ballot this Election Day, another anti-gay marriage amendment. He has a history of attacks on gays, and that my friends, is another textbook case of projection.
"But TRex," you may ask, "What in the world does all of this have to do with Joe Lieberman?"
This:
Lieberman, who regularly decries negative campaigning, has complained that Lamont has intentionally distorted his record and, during a recent debate, directly accused Lamont of lying.
(snip)
That has from time to time visibly angered Lieberman, who has had to spend nights flying to fundraisers in California, Florida, and Illinois while Lamont and his checkbook have been on the hustings in Connecticut.
The senator says Lamont is trying to buy the election, and he's charged that since Lamont has refused to make public more than a year's worth of his federal tax returns, he's "hiding" the primary source of his war chest.
Um, Joe, you're "hiding" where that $387,000 dollars went that you spent paying thugs and buying votes, but this has been your tactic all along, hasn't it? You're running a vicious, bitchy, lying campaign, and then wah-wah-waaaaaah-ing all the way home about how "Negative Ned" and all those bad old bloggers are lying about you and ganging up on you and it's all so unfair and why can't we all just get along?
Projection, bitchez. It ain't pretty.

… since it’s just us, dear theropod, how cute is matt stoller?
TeddySanFran @ 3
He’s adorable, but David Sirota is haaawwwwwt. Ooh, lordy.
… see-wrote-a-blog, indeed.
TRex @ 4
Someone last night asked me if you were taking the piss when you said Sirota was hot and I said no, TRex really means it.
Now if you said “Dangerstein is hot,” we’d know what happened to Haggard’s meth.
TRex-
Please roar loud enough to scare them all into telling the truth.
OK?
I saw Dangerstein today. He was taller than I expected, and losing his hair.
Road trip pix!
I love how those Talibangicals love their vices. Ole Ted just loves the gutter of gutterest drugs, CRANK BABY, I just bet he gets raging for those jousts and then goes up on the pulpit to keep the FEAR of god in his sheep, that are searching for the perfect place to live, Colorado Springs welcome the new Holy Land. Whatch gona do when the Crank Man comes looking for you.
Hey Jane,
Any chance you’ll be on the teevee election night?
Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re NOT out to get you.
TRex @ 8
I’d like to think he’s pulling it out.
TRex- any update on videos from the “bar the bus door” episode today? And, any more bus encouters with the LieberThugs?
Haggard’s wife knows where his meth went — that interview in the car was particularly tragic, when she swung around from the camera to him as he said, “Yes, I bought meth.”
EPU’d
It looks like he threw the drugs away more than once ; )
“Hi Mike, this is Art,” one call began, according to the report. “Hey, I was just calling to see if we could get any more. Either $100 or $200 supply.”

Hypocritical fundie. What a surprise.
I’m not even a Xian and I can click off plenty of Xian-y examples of what’s gonna make Haggard’s stay in the afterlife a great deal warmer than that of others (if such a place exists). It ain’t the gay that’ll send him a on a one-way ticket to be the slave boy polishing Satan’s nails. It ain’t even the drugs. That judge not lest ye be judged might be a big part of it. And that bearing false witness thing. That’s in the 10 commandments. And that adultery thing. Oops, that’s in the XC hit parade, too.
Of course, I’m sure we can’t accuse him of not turning the other cheek. I’m sure Ted’s turned a few cheeks in his day.

Rove must not be on the damage control on this one. Rove hid Foley deep deep deep and kept the Congressional Inquiry quiet. Rule Number One, hide the Bad Actor, Rule Two, Never EVER allow the Bad Actor to talk to the press, use a mouth piece, Rule Three, blame loose morals on the Democrats especially Billy Bob Clinton, Fourth, find a Catholic Priest that molested Ted and used Crank on his Johnson to make a better party.
I gotta wonder what W saw in Ted Haggard, with that full head of hair. Thought the Preznit liked the bald-headed daddies.
TeddySanFran @ 23
I just bet ole Ted logged in many trips to the White House and the Texas White house….There have been rumors of Shrubs Peccadilloes with men

Speaking of mouthpieces not chosen by Karl Rove: Ted Haggard’s replacement Ross Parsley, Acting Pastor of the New Life Church, is useful in case your personal gaydar needs tuning (Aravosis, with GMA link to the new pastor stabbing Ted in the back):

dab from CT @ 27
I hadn’t thought about that, but maybe so. I still kind of think DANGERSTEIN has no idea who I am, but of course, he probably does.
The nominations for Projectionist of the Year, from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, are:
-Dubya, for his “vote for the Dems, and the terrorists win” speech;
-Joe Lieberman, for his “where does Joe get his money?” whining;
-Ann Coulter, for her “Dems are treasonist, and ought to be hung” spew; and
-Mark Foley, for his “I’m just here for the children” justification.
And the Oscar™ goes to . . . Dubya, for trashing the constitution!
TeddySanFran @ 28
Parsley?

This reminds of a story from Louisville politics. A mayor snuck out of town for a weekend with his mistress. Everything would have been fine except it was just as a fireman’s strike started. Everyone ran around trying to find this guy so he could declare an emergency and end the strike. It took a while but they eventually tracked him to New Orleans, and the whole mistress thing came out. The mayor denied everything, of course. The next day a TV reporter went to the mayor’s house. His wife answered the door and the reporter asked, “Do you believe your husband’s story?” The wife replied, “Which one?” That pretty much said it all.
So, CTRex, you gonna interview Dangerstein, or not?
A mock interview might be better than the real thing.
Hey Teddy SanFran:
Ya wonder if Haggard turned his cheek if it’s slapped for another slap, like the good book says?
Ooh, kinky!

W being the shoo-in for the Prez nomination by the time BigTime headed up the search committee, it wasn’t hard to get every upwardly mobile gooper to submit personal, financial, and family records (and oppo research) to Cheney for review in 2000.

Under Karl Rove’s sorcerer’s spell, Republicans learned how to exploit the intelligence gap, herding the dopey faithful to the polls, and depending on their docility between elections. “Karl Rove was there to recognize that there were substantial powers to be obtained by catering to stupid stubborn people, and George W. At least you would think putting atom bomb Arabic manuals on the web would be grounds to lose your damn job, arrested and have the key thrown away.
Rogers is my district and I so want him to get taken down on Tuesday. I’m also looking forward to not having to see DeVos’ smarmy mug on the TV anymore either, he’s such a creepy fuck.
Okay, I’m going to run over to New Haven and see if we can find Tommy Yum and Ken!! They just phoned to let me know that they’ve landed.

TeddySanFran @ 52
Doh! hitting hand to forehead!
Of course, between him and Rove they know where all the bodies are buried. Target marketing anyone?
lurkers’r’us @ 72
Let me just try to correct one possible misunderstanding – the Army Times is not part of the U.S. military. According to an earlier commenter, it’s owned by Gannett, but in any event it’s a specialty mag pitched to the Army. Of course, many of the people who work and write for it were in the military, but it’s not an official publication.
Still, I think you’re right that this is significant, because the Army Times doesn’t want to honk off their readership by making a political statement that most of its readers will vehemently disagree with. It’s another sign that all is not well within the military.
I would think that Gannett wouldn’t want scoop their own publications, op ed’s … There’s a poll at MSNBC to go with the story … Rummy’s down by 86% and over 21,438 votes. That’s a lot traffic for so little time being up. On a Friday night.

thanks for the clarification cujo, i assumed they were a military thing. but still it is huge. that and the vanity fair article. a one-two punch.
HotFlash, my sister lives in Port Huron… and yes DeVos is still behind Granholm, they ‘claim’ by not much, 5 points or so, haven’t checked today at all. Your bro is correct on the ads, new ones everyday from him, all say somberly “she is a failure”. No she isn’t, and she had to clean up Engler’s 12 year mess he left her. What has made my blood boil is to see DeVos even has ads on the IE/AOL browser online, he’s flooded all the markets.
Last night I was in East Lansing at a friends house, she has a different cable system and I couldn’t help notice all the political ads showing there that I haven’t seen before. For some reason they seemed even more dirty and negative if that’s possible.
I’m glad I’m not the Republican booked Meet the Press this week, or Face the Nation.
An amazing rant on Taylor Marsh’s blog by Ed Encho titled: Tilting at Straw Men
an excerpt:
The right wing echo chamber was humming for days and until the wonderful revelation that yet another one of the bigtime ‘family values’ guys, Pastor Ted Haggard a rising star in the reactionary theocratic movement was outed as just another member of the Republican sodomite Cabal. Haggard who bragged of his influence with George W. Bush himself had a tendency to wander from his mammoth 14,000 member Colorado Springs megachurch just down the road from Dobson’s evil empire to the big city of Denver on a pilgrimage for meth and cock. The empire is still trying to find a way to spin this disaster and we will see how the MSM servants of the oligarchy react. This should be big time fucking news in a nation weaned on the twisted exploits of very local news pervert story all the way on up to Michael Jackson. The Haggard revelations could be the proverbial turd in the punchbowl for Rove’s Wednesday victory parties.
(snip)
Incidentally, our press has recently been ‘honored’ by Reporters Without Borders as the 53rd freest in the world (we are tied with Croatia, Botswana and Tonga) although still comfortably ahead of our good friends the Bush Family loving Saudis and the holders of billions of dollars in national debt that is China which incidentally the top importer of much of the cheap shit that Americans buy on credit by the cartload at their neighborhood Walmarts as the ever patient sleeping giant laughs at our short-sighted ignorance.
When will this country wake up? Let us all hope for the sake of freedom and liberty that the answer comes before Tuesday.

To amplify: these MilitaryTimes publications are sold on every base/post/installation, in the checkout line of the BX or PX or NEX (the on-base department stores) or the shoppettes (the on-base convenience stores). They’re in the base libraries. They’re mid-brow weekly newspapers aimed at the vast center of military readership. Sometimes they’re a little alarmist or sensationalist, and leadership doesn’t always like them, but they indeed try to stay attuned with their readership. You can usually find one or two copies floating around a military workplace.
In total, they will reach a HUGE percentage of the military population.
Respectful Dissent, thanks. I was hoping the audience reach of these MilitaryTimes publications would be great — and to be released on Monday, the day before the election!

I heard something really appalling about DeVos on the radio today or yesterday. Seems he has had more campaign ads on various media this season than anyone else in the country. I don’t recall the number, but it was certainly more than 20,000. Now, even taking into account that many of those run in non-overlapping state markets, that’s a whole freaking lot of Dick DeVos.
From Froomkin’s column today:
Heck, they could have joked about their favorite drugs of choice.
Curious in Central Texas @ 82
Tonight’s Now, the PBS show, was about the Ft. Hood/Killeen congressional district race. The impression I got was that while the majority in the area still support the Iraq war, a growing number are rethinking that idea, and many lifelong Republicans are either going to sit out the election or vote Democratic this one time.
Curious in Central Texas @ 82
Could definitely have some impact, yah. Then again, many military people vote absentee ballot … either from overseas or for their home of record as opposed to where they’re based.
That being said, military retirees are another part of the MilitaryTimes demographic, and I bet they’re pretty reliably civic minded and go vote.

I am starting to see a pattern here, lots and lots of pattern. Jeff Gannon running loose to service those in-need in the White House and then Monday Morning calls with Haggard to compare notes. Absolutely, these things are everywhere on a military base, in all the places listed above, but also laying on a bench at the military gym, or a coffee table at the hospital. It truly is a ubiquitous publication for military people. Don’t know how many of them read the editorial page (most people seem to focus on pay issues, transfers (hey! wonder who Sgt. X pissed off to get sent there?), new uniform regs, new regs in general, and the like. But a goodly number of the troops will read an editorial. And some of those articles spread like wildfire through the military, everybody showing it to other troops.
I have a feeling this will be one of them.

Benson 41%, Young 48%
Anchorage – Hays Research Group has released its most recent poll tracking the Alaska
Congressional race between Don Young and Diane Benson. Conducted Nov. 1st & 2nd,
the results of the latest poll show the gap between the two continuing to close with Young
garnering 48% of those polled to Benson’s 41%. The poll was commissioned by Anne
Hays, President and Research Director of Hays Research Group and was not conducted
on behalf of any candidate or group.
The poll sample was 400 registered voters who indicated they are likely to vote in the
upcoming election. The margin of error in the poll is 5%, with a 95% confidence level;
meaning that we can be 95% sure that if every resident of the state was actually surveyed,
the results would vary by no more than 5 percentage points in either direction.
Respondents were asked “If the election for U.S. Congress were held today, who would
you vote for?” Of the 400 responses, Benson received 41%, Young received 48%, and
“Other” received 6% while 6% were undecided. When asked whom they would lean
toward, the undecided respondents who expressed a preference broke out two to one for
Young, although fifty percent of the undecided continued to remain uncommitted in the
race.
Hays Research Group and its predecessor Elliott Bay Research have been conducting
professional survey research in Alaska since 2002 and has earned a reputation as an
independent and thorough survey research firm. The HRG client list includes the
Anchorage Police Department (MOA PO # 24010), the Anchorage School District (RFP
2003-607), Blomfield Corporation and Waste Management Corporation.

I was thinking 40 and 10. That last one’s really optimistic, but I’m not betting any money….

If that has happened, it has been extremely rare.
I find it very encouraging, ET. I’ve heard it bantered about that for an incumbent to poll below 50% is serious cause for alarm.
Benson appears to still be increasing in numbers while Young continues to drop. Fingers and toes crossed that the wave increases and Young (R-Crook)finds himself unemployed.
There was a sledgehammer by the front door and really, as I watched Cheney and George S. tonight, I thought seriously of putting it right through the flat screen, the disconnect between Cheney and the people of this country WHOM HE REPRESENTS AND WORKS FOR is wider than all the black holes in the universe!
4 more days, spiderpaws.

Whoa! From the Military Times editorial over at Americablog:
The Military Times is saying what can not be said by the active duty personnel.
Happy birthday, ET and many, many more.
(Waving at Suzie) Yeah but to hear Cheney tell it, don’t matter if aliens get into the House & Senate…he & the president hold the cards and NOTHING WILL CHANGE!!! What we need is a good, old fashioned COUP!!!
lurkers’r’us
A big Semper Fi to those folks for laying their cards on the table for all of us to see. You can bet they speak for a large percentage of the military community.
BTW, next Friday is the Corps Birthday & Saturday is Veterans Day (be sure and hug a veteran if you can & think about those not with us anymore…)
“Every once in a while, you’ve got to do something hard, do something you’re not comfortable with. A person needs a gut check.” – Corporal Chad Ritchie, U.S.M.C.
Oh man, I missed the news. Happy Birthday ET!
Happy D’Day E.T. It was my wife’s B’day today as well.
Preview is my good friend. Happy Birthday E.Teller!
WHOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO!!
*hic!*
I just got in from hanging out with the amazing Tommy Yum and friends.
And boy are my arms tired.
*hic!*
I’ll be here all week.
Oh, lord, it’s *hic!* five in the morning…
I think it was Countdown, but one of the commentators hit the Haggard story home — what do they talk about during those Monday phone calls in Rove’s office? Well, they settle on Judgeships, they decide on policy fights on reproductive issues, such as Plan B or whether HHS websites should falsely claim that abortion causes breast cancer. They decide on whether AIDS funds should be distributed to service groups organized on a secular basis, or those that carry a faith based message. The decide Foreign Policy as related to Israel and the expected Armageddon. They decide on sex education programs in the public schools. They decide on whether African AIDS projects should include Condom use. They also talk about the administration’s science programs, such matters as whether to promote creationism or intelligent design. They certainly talk about Stem Cell Research, and what things NIH should fund. They probably talk about late term abortion. One would imagine they coordinate on which states should put anti-Gay Marriage propositions on the ballot. We know they have talked about using the US Military to protect Christian Missionaries in Muslim countries. They have a whole lot of common interests around which to have conversations. I wouldn’t doubt if they talked a lot about Terri Schivo.
So Ted Haggard was positioned to have very special input on these policy issues, issues that matter to lots of us. So in the end it does matter that Hypocrites and other scum had this kind of access, and assumed they were speaking for 30 million evangelicals who vote, and when the truth came out, we discover that Bush’s relationship with Ted was on the level of his earlier relationship with “kennyboy” — ops, I mean Mr.Lay.
Much as the sleeze is of some interest, our hard questions for some good time should be what kind of influence did these characters have on Policy?
I will take this a step further — we all know the saga of Ralph Reed’s partnership with Grover Nordquist and Jack Abramoff and the plans they executed to extract money from Indian Casino Owners, and play the evangelicals in such a way as to benefit one tribe over another, but come out rich from stealing from the Indians in the process. We need to see if a parallel scheme might not be involved here. Has Bush or his associates been blackmailing any of these Megachurch Pastors with knowledge that — leaked to the press — could ruin them? I would not be at all surprised, and I think inquisitive reporters ought to take a good look. How involved were they in fundraising? This needs to be about following the money.
TRex… Still around?
So they said they are going to steal the election. To your face. What ever are you going to do? Not much. If you were Mexican, any Latin American, or any Eastern European much could be expected. But you are American. I predict the variance from the exit polls will once again exceed statistical norms and nothing. You will take it like the wimps you are.
From the Weekly Standard 3/20/2006 :
It was not the first time Bush has made clear his desire to see the Iraq documents released. On November 30, 2005, he gave a speech at the U.S. Naval Academy. Four members of Congress attended: Rep. Pete Hoekstra, the Michigan Republican who chairs the House Intelligence Committee; Sen. John Warner, the Virginia Republican who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee; Rep. John Shadegg of Arizona; and Pence. After his speech, Bush visited with the lawmakers for 10 minutes in a holding room to the side of the stage. Hoekstra asked Bush about the documents and the president said he was pressing to have them released.
Says Pence: “I left both meetings with the unambiguous impression that the president of the United States wants these documents to reach the American people.”
Negroponte never got the message. Or he is choosing to ignore it. He has done nothing to expedite the exploitation of the documents. And he continues to block the growing congressional effort, led by Hoekstra, to have the documents released.

Are pastor Ted’s church & congregation now to be known as “crystal meth-odists?”
OT:
Has anyone been looking at the 08 Senate races? Are more repugs expected to slink away into oblivion? Are some of those who didn’t have to face the voters this round gonna take some heat from the media and the Senate the next two terms? They have a roster of really awful people in there still.
Mornin’.
Good Old Pastor Ted. I probably shouldn’t be enjoying his downfall as much as I am,but it’s guys like him who turned my family against me. Not that my family isn’t crazy all on their own mind you,but this new brand of “christianity”takes family weaknesses and exploits them. We were an Amway family too,a nexus of god, politics and big bidness. I’m lucky I made it out somewhat sane, lol.
The concept of God being your own personal vending machine apalls me. And that pretty much sums up what these people believe. I think of all the money these so called “clergy”people have spent on huge multi-million dollar churches and it makes me SO angry. That money could have helped so many people in need, but instead they sneer at the poor. God only loves the rich, don’tcha know.
I truly hope that Haggard’s downfall is only the first in a long line of dominos to topple. And someone PLEASE start looking at this man’s tax records, please.
I wonder if this Parsley guy who was the spokesperson for Haggard’s church is related to Rod Parsley in Ohio, another megachurch leader.
From today’s lead editorial, NYT:
Grandma Pelosi would never tolerate this mischief. Throw the bums out. GOTV.
Blinding the taxpayers on Iraq [this is behind the wall, which continues to be stupid if you want your opinions read in today’s world]
COLORAD BOB — great find.
DefJef–
in broad terms 08 looks much better than ‘06. As I recall we’re defending about 20 seats this time around, the Republicans about 13–about as unfavorable a split as can be imagined, and it makes the fact that we might gain six all the more astounding. In ‘08 I think we’re only defending 12 seats. So for the most part, we’ll be playing ‘08 on their end of the field.
In detail (which incumbents and how vulnerable), I don’t know how ‘08 looks. You can read here about some possible retirements.
Happy birthday to Nate!
btw, someone tell Dorothy that it’s “taking a piss,” not “taking the piss.” This ain’t the google, you know. ;)
This mornings WaPo has a good editorial from Eugene Robinson about Bush and his sleazy tactics:
snip
Money quote: None of this is pretty, and all of it demeans American politics. But claiming that “the terrorists win” if Democrats are elected to Congress — a statement whose only conceivable purpose is to make Americans afraid — is something entirely different.
Tell me about it.
The Military Times call for Rummy’s firing/resignation is a lead story on CNN this a.m. The next story they ran was the posting of the nuclear secrets on the web. Massive.Criminal.Negligence
scarecrow at 145 — kos has a great piece on that at DKos. That is such a huge thing — all of the papers printing it at once. This forces a decision by voters with military connections — or, truly, any thinking voters — do you stand up for George Bush and more of the same with Rummy, or do you stand up for our troops? I know which side of that equation that I am on, I can tell you that much.
MoDo nails it this morning:

I’m sorry these monsters play these wretched games, and that you have paid the price for them, AOB. I see a lot of the divide and conquer bullshit here in San Antonio, home of Hagee’s Horrorstone. They’re Moonies for Christ (only not a Christ anyone sane person knows). They take them and warp their brains and turn them against rational life, slowly but surely, then their family and friends, too. Their family is the church. Their best friend is the church. Nothing can compare. How can a mere mortal compare to Jaysus and Gawd and the blessed Pastor? But how many friends expect you to support their sorry asses? And if your family was constantly hitting you up for cash, and giving you only honeyed promises in return, you’d tell them to grow up and get a damned job (or something).
I would dearly love for these fuckers to have their books publicly audited. I’ve known some of these holy-rolling bastards when they came to town with barely a shirt on their back, and within a few years they’re buying a mansion and European cars and letting the wifey go to the Promised land every year? Tell me how the fuck that works.
My mother-in-law once joked about her tugboat that it was a hole in the water to throw money into. Well, that’s pretty much what these cults are for the followers: A hole to throw money into. No, I don’t take back calling them cults. That’s what they are. It’s the only explanation for what I see of families torn apart for Jaysus, families who can barely eat giving their hard-earned money to “Pastor,” and the whole rest of it, that you probably know well.
These con artists wrapped in the flag and dragging a cross before them are a scourge upon this land and against humanity.

Papers sold to military: ‘Rumsfeld must go’
Mornin’ all
It seems that Fox is shifting it’s weekend schedule to all fear all the time. Glenn has the goods.
And Juan Cole has an easy Top Ten Ways We Know We’ve Lost in Iraq
Other than that, how’s it going?
Happy Birthday ET and Nate! Hope all your election birthday wishes come true on Tuesday.

I see Tom Friedman is jumping ship and throwing the Bushies under the bus.

What a bunch of losers…..He left the best for Miss Piggy, Fist Queen of 2001 Unka Karl.
———————————————-NY Times’ Friedman: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld think you’re stupid
“Everyone says that Karl Rove is a genius. Yeah, right. So are cigarette companies. They get you to buy cigarettes even though we know they cause cancer. That is the kind of genius Karl Rove is. He is not a man who has designed a strategy to reunite our country around an agenda of renewal for the 21st century — to bring out the best in us. His “genius” is taking some irrelevant aside by John Kerry and twisting it to bring out the worst in us, so you will ignore the mess that the Bush team has visited on this country.”
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh for fuck’s sake!
Josh at TPM: Swiftboaters against Jon Tester in MT put Tester’s home phone number on their TV ad smearing him!
Is this even LEGAL?
LJ/Aquaria @ 155
I sure hope not, but they probably checked in advance.
If I were Tester, I’d set the call forwarding to go to hmmmm? who? Then change my phone number pronto. Most of the people who need to get to him now are using the cell I would imagine.
Worse, it puts the number up there, under “Tell Jon Tester you can’t afford higher taxes.” And puts the number right below it.
Putting a candidate’s home phone number in a TV ad is far, far beyond the pale.
Nice summary of Bush’s campaign tactics of the last few weeks, and the facts contradicting what he’s saying to his hand-picked crowds in Robert Parry’s latest.
The end of the article pretty much says it all:
Lots of Bush quotes and chanted replies from his hives of drones out in the so-called heartland….
RevDeb @ 157
Apparently, the Testers have a machine answering at home now. But I wouldn’t bet these jerks checked the legality. This is the guy who financed the swiftboat of Kerry. I don’t think he cares about legality.
LJ/Aquaria @ 157
Pale? What pale? we are surely not surprised by this are we?
Sent Tester some more money yesterday through MoveOn.
3 MORE DAYS.
RevDeb, I’ve been in Texas politics a long, long time. I’ve seen some sleazy things happen in politics. I worked on a campaign as a teen with a guy who helped LBJ spread the pig-fucker story.
And I have never, ever seen crap as vile as what I’ve seen this year.
I certainly haven’t seen people invade the privacy of a politician over a frickin’ policy difference, not campaign shenanigans.
So forgive me if I have a bit of outrage here, but I am outraged.
I mean, when LBJ or Edwin Edwards (relatted to my best friend) wouldn’t stoop that damned low, you know something’s sleazy.
