…I suspect there is going to emerge a common theme among Republicans, a declaration that the political environment was so toxic that no incumbent party could expect to emerge unscathed. The more brash will declare that the GOP did quite well given the circumstances. What will be missing is any sense that the Republicans made their own bed and were forced to lay in it. …

I hope that when the political history of the last half century is written it will show, as it should, that the Republicans engaged in a brand of divisive electoral politics that pitted Americans against each other… Republicans deserve to be tarred by history for exploiting our weaknesses, our prejudices, and our lesser selves for their own political gain….Removing the Republicans from power will only be a temporary fix unless we fundamentally fix ourselves so that no one, no party, no movement can exploit those same weaknesses again.

The big story- the November surprise- is the news today that GW Clusterfuck insisted on putting thousands of pages of documents on a website which includes directions for making an atomic bomb. The Intelligence Czar told Clusterfuck that this was criminally insane- but Clusterfuck went ahead. It’s treason of course- and according to Kay- the weapons inspector- violates several international laws.

The trouble is- that what Clusterfuck did is SO incredibly criminal and stupid- that people won’t really believe that he did it- but he DID!

As a final note, if people are looking or a single hero to rally around in the Democratic resurgence, I think the clear answer is Howard Dean. It was Howard Dean who was the first Democratic leaders ready to rally the grassroots would opposed the war. It was Howard Dean who rallied and gave belief to the netroots that have since supplied the decisive infrastructure improvements for the progressive netroots. It was Howard Dean who urged the rise of the fifty-state strategy, the silent revolution, the small-donor explosion, the rebirth of Democratic volunteer activism, standing up on Iraq, a politics of contrast, and the rise of progressive media in the form of the blogosphere. All of those things which many Democrats now take for granted came primarily form Howard Dean’s Presidential campaign. Basically, every non-Democracy Alliance improvement since 2002 came from Howard Dean and his netroots followers. A Democratic victory in 2006 will be the ultimate coming to fruition of the rise of the Dean movement back in early 2003. Even when Dean’s bid for the Presidency failed, the movement never stopped. When people write articles and blog posts and book about how Democrats came back to life in 2005-2006, they should look back to 2003 and once again figure out what happened in Howard Dean’s Presidential campaign. That is where all of this started, even if it took longer than we wanted to pull off our first major victory. It turns out that we did have the power after all. We just had to keep plugging away.

Ok I just wrote to my sister in law in CT who is very conservative and asked her and her husband to please vote for Lamont or at least Schlesinger over Lieberman. It’s using up credits within the family. Now I owe her one. I wrote to another family member from CT but he has changed his voting place from there to where he is in college. The only other person I know there is someone with whom I have a shaky relationship, and cannot put any additional burden on it. I have gone as far as I can with people that I know in CT. Hope it’s enough.

As a mom, I’m interested in your take on this. Kids in schools around CT have been “voting” for Senator. In Wilton and other schools, Lamont has been winning the straw polls by a landslide.

I remember when my kids were in elementary and intermediary school and they would do straw polls. Kids that age almost always vote the way their parents are - based on what they hear at home.

Do you agree? I realize it means nothing - but still it’s interesting, i.e. out of the mouths of babes.

OKK, I think any forced change gets those cards tumbling at this point, as Clusterator is so dug in he can hardly move (oh is that ever a bad mixed metaphor, but hey)—and make no mistake, that’s the one that has to be moved. Cheney is the hired help, paid in whatever he can loot, as I suspect he is weeks from finding out.
