Good answer, Ned.
Meanwhile, Tony Snow was just on The Factor saying that John Kerry's apology was "sufficient."
Translation: We polled the tits off this pig and we were getting hammered. We wanted people to hear "Democrats hate our troops" and all they were hearing was "Iraq is a fucking mess."
But thanks to everyone who ignored that fact and gave us a leg up by spinning it for the GOP. We owe you one.
Update: Genuine netroots hero Mike Stark on Olbermann here.

That appears to be a very accurate translation, thank you for the service.
It’s beautiful in Connecticut this time of year…
Lamont will win.
Anybody see Mike Stark on Olbermann?
We LUUUVVVVV Mike Stark. He’s a good friend, an FDL contributor and a hero.
So, I guess we can now expect Clusterfuck to issue an apology to the troops, all Americans, and every person on the planet, for making the world a more dangerous place, and for wasting so many lives.
We’re waiting.
Olbermann was on fire tonight!
My new hero. Watch him on MSNBC.
1,321 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND …
Citizen Janie:
As far as the corporatist shills in the Democratic Party who bailed out on John Kerry today: “Never forget!! We will NEVER forget!!”
It is time to start organizin’ for state based, web organized pressure on Democratic elected officials to get the backs of Pelosi in the House and Fiengold-Kennedy-Durbin in the Senate…the Bluemutts and Mrs. Clinton must be stopped before they even get started in January.
KEEP THE FAITH THERE ARE PLENTY OF THE BASTARDS TA KEEP US BUSY!!

Yes, it was most excellent. Felix’s thugs showed their true colors.
Mike Stark was great, Jane!
And thank you for the image that’s now in my notoriously twisted mind: some poor sow is wandering the streets of D.C., looking for its tits.
Jane Hamsher @ 9
he certainly deserves it and good on the Young Turks– speaking truth to power.
Great to see Hilary Clinton piling on Kerry, eh? Has she decided to campaign for Lieberman anytime soon?
When the heros of this era are written up, Mike Stark will be among them.
And those who want to advance themselves by Sista Soldjah-ing others?
Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
KO kicked major butt, and I hope and pray C&L will have tape up.
I don’t know if it’s the same everywhere, but here in Georgia MSNBC has said that at 10:00 they will broadcast a debate between … {snicker….. snicker… giggle… laugh… GUFFAW…}
wait for it….
Katherine Harris and her opponent.
Who could ask for anything more after that KO Special Comment? Just the perfect lead-in to Jon Stewart, don’t you think???
Jane@4,
Looking forward to seeing Mike Stark tonight, soon as I’m home from work. Will try and get the clip up on YouTube soon as I can.
Translation: We polled the tits off this pig …
I read “pulled” for “polled”. ouch
Great fucking answer Ned! Yeah baby!
Keith and Stark were great too.
And Jane nailed it: “Oh, you want to talk about Iraq do you? Err, umm, Kerry’s apology is sufficient. Next topic…PLEASE!”

I want an apology from all these wingtards who haven’t had an ounce of concern for the troops until the last two days.
Every single one of them.
Riesz Fischer @ 24
I will refer you to my reply to Kevon @ 21… And I will (gratuitously) add EWWWWWWWWWW….
Jane, I think your translation is spot on. When I heard CNN tell us that the WH “accepted” the apology, it became clear that they didn’t want this to go on. My guess is they thought there were too many reporters/pundits who were starting to ask, “well shouldn’t the President apologize for . . . ?”
The proof will be in how many of the rightwing pundits and Fox news reporters get the message and talk about something else tomorrow. My litmus will be Paula Zahn. Wolf seemed ready to let it go and talk about the real war in Iraq, but Paula tonight kept asking her panelists leading questions about Kerry. Will she get the memo?
Mike Stark was terrific. Olbermann’s special comment? Words can’t do justice. Olbermann is really letting all the bums have it. He outright, repeatedly calls Bush Stupid and a Liar. That in itself, is worth turning TV on. He also bashed McCain, Pickles, the Harold Ford ad with the playboy bunny, the attack on Mike Stark, and let’s see?
If you licked your finger and touched Keith Olbermann on the wrist, steam would rise.
We’re a non TV household (Okay my son watches Sponge Bob and Jimmy Nuetron); but for Olbermann – my son my husband the dog the cats and myself all line up rapt. This man is out of sight.
I don’t know why this strikes me as so funny, but it’s certainly giving me the giggles.

I don’t think it was just appearances.
Norskeflamethrower says,
“As far as the corporatist shills in the Democratic Party who bailed out on John Kerry today: “Never forget!! We will NEVER forget!!””
I agree. I have expressed my reservations about Kerry and don’t know if I could ever vote for him in a presidential primary after his mistakes in 2004. But as our most recent presidential nominee he is, by tradition, the symbolic head of our party, and Democrats should STFU if they don’t agree with every word he says (besides, he was making a good point). We don’t need to repeat the Republicans’ talking points for them; they can hande that on their own.
Senator Clinton, “inappropriate” is kicking a fellow Democrat when he stumbles, and giving an assist to the Republicans. Stop it.

I can’t wait to see if the Charlottesville police ever give Mike the information he needs to “obtain his own arrest warrants” from the magistrate. If Felix had outstanding arrest warrants in C’ville for “fishing licenses and parking tickets”, it should be purty inneresting to see what happens after they finally “identify” his attackers and assaulters since it was caught on mainstream news and some were former “GOP officials”.
dayum, when’s it gonna happen???
Nobody I know ever had arrest warrants in C’ville when I went to UVA unless they did something BAD.
Like what the goons and Allen did to Mike. Coach Allen’s son would have maybe been given special privileges then. Tell me, please, that he is still not getting them.

She lives near the Bonaventure Cemetary. This will be the first time I get to (have to?) stay in a hotel- One of the ones down on River STreet- can’t remember the name. I don’t think it is a virus. I think CNN deliberately looks for “gush” in their hiring decisions.
Where in the world do they teach that stuff, and why?
Why would anyone think that “gushing” was an appropriate method for presenting the news?
Why am I even asking this? *g*
Apologies in advance for any redundancy – From CNN via RawStory:
Boehner: …[L]et’s not blame what’s happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld.
Blitzer: But he’s in charge of the military.
Boehner: But the fact is the generals on the ground are in charge and he works closely with them and the president.

Ned’s great. I just wish he’d pulled the trigger and asked Bush to apologize to the American people. It is such a relief to see our people fighting back. What is it with Hilary? She needs the extra three percent in the lower tier counties to make a presidential run? Please.
Snow’s backdown is, as you point out, a sign that the meme backfired. People are getting wise to the Rethug method. That method works only in a context where people assume that where there’s smoke there’s fire. It worked for them longer than they had a right to expect, but now, people think, where there’s smoke, it’s just smoke and mirrors. When that happens you’re toast. All they have left now is bombing Iran. (Did I just make a prediction?)

” Senator John Kerry called him (Bush) out, two years too late. He had been too cordial, just as Vice-President Al Gore had been too cordial in 2000, just as millions of us have been too cordial ever since. “
God damn fucking right and this is the sermon I’ve been preaching ever since I found FDL.
Someone on another thread was whining about sinking to their level…andI say this again, for nothing except emphasis –
We can raise the level of discourse, when they do. Like it or not, it’s a pro-wrestling political scene and if we try to be genteel about it, the only thing that’ll happen is we’ll get our asses handed to us again. I have no fucking intention of ever getting my ass handed to me again.

I think they’ve gotten here, just maybe hung up like mine for a bit… We must remember that a week before The Big Day next Tuesday traffic may be WAY up… (Which is a REALLY GOOD THING!)

At times I get down about the political scene. I believe we owe much to Ned Lamont for his willingness to step forward to challenge the powers on our side that acquiese to the corrupt and immoral leadership of this wonderful country. I am so amazed that it seems that CT voters don’t get the difference between the hope expressed by Ned vs the cynicism of Joe. And I am further disheartened by the calculation of Democratic “leaders”.
I am inspired by those in the netroots and elsewhere that recognize the need to truly seek out caring candidates and to clean house. I do believe that Ned can win but even if he doesn’t he has changed the political landscape. He has put his time energy and fortune on the line for the good of the community and country. How can people not see that? I am not anywhere near CT but he is my hero. My heart is with you all as you work being the change we need.
Yeah Ned! Yeah Jane and Christy and TRex! Yeah bloggers and lurkers like me. :)
Is it really all in bold as in the preview? and how did it get that way? My first post.
I suspect she knows a lot about the big bang theory.
She runs her campaign on that theory.
What I really want to know is who the hell (other than her own sweet self) thought it would be a good idea for Katie to go on Da Tube, all live and all…
And now, as a palate cleanser, we have Jon Stewart… THANK GOD….

Haha!!
It kinda freaked me out though when she looked into the camera. Thought she was looking right at me. Got a chill.
Florida makes me feel good that I live in Texas, and that’s hard to do! LOL
She so deserves to lose– stop with the purrring lapdog dance.
I am sad that an astronaut has had to stoop this low for so long.

CTBob never fails! He compares the new Lieberman ad with the “brick wall crash” ad from Ned. You’ll have to go to link above and follow the directions to see the L4L ad. He also has a link to the brick wall ad. Enjoy!

Well I certainly wouldn’t compare her with the Mona Lisa.
kirk!!! haven’t seen you in a while, but my hours have been iffy. How are the kitties? And, about that cat brush…
Did anyone else catch Janeane Garafalo (sp?) on Sam Seder’s show on Air America? She was doing a Katherine Harris bit for Halloween. It was priceless.
Valley Girl @ 188
VG, that has GOT to be the funniest thing I have seen all day… Well, actually, more pitiful than funny… um…. you know what I mean…. (SNORT… SNORT…)

they’re both painted, two-dimensional, heartless….

Marion, if you really want to know, I have to recommend the wonkette coverage. She has had all her staff quit, multiple times.
And Kitty is why we have Dubya fer preznit, by the way. (Her, and the brother Jebby who hired her.)
Oh, Kirk- p.s. LindaH (IRRC) posted this wonderful link to a cat video the other day, and I am going to use it to begin my lecture tomorrow. Trust me, you will enjoy it. It’s the best cat video I’ve seen. xxoo

does anybody remember the SNL skit right after the 2000 election that was like a soap opera with Kitty and Jeb and Will farrell playing W sitting in a corner playing with a ball of string like a cat?
Very funny.
Here is part of it.

Who could forget Katherine and “the Brooks Brothers Riot?” Oh, she’s a VERY special person… And you’re right about Wonkette… Bookmarked here…

I think this link is dead.
OT but I thought I’d share this blues tune I wrote/recorded called “I Blame Clinton“. I want to thank all the firepups for the inspiration.

Random thoughts
It’s too bad Kerry misspoke but if it had not been him the Republicans would just have found someone else to pile on to. They are in full desperation mode.
As Jane points out, the Kerry story kept Iraq in the minds of voters.
I still prefer Kerry’s talking tough on Bush and Iraq to Hillary’s gratuitous a la Lieberman backstabbing of him.
There was also a grain of truth in his statement. Not that our troops are stupid although the Army has been lowering its standards recently but that those who benefit from the Republican economy like Jenna and not-Jenna are able to keep themselves well clear of the conflict.

this wil probably be in epu lnd but does anyone know how KO is being percieved outside the progressive blogs. His special commentaries are so intelligent,.so dead on and amazing i am truly in awe of him. Is he popular at MSNBC with the other hosts? just curious.
As seen on the Lamont blog – h/t “lochness monster” – enjoy…
ZING!
She’s getting more and more obnoxious by the day:
“First lady: World listening to Iraq talk
HILLIARD, Ohio –First lady Laura Bush cautioned Wednesday that Americans discussing the war in Iraq — especially politicians — should be careful what they say because other countries are paying attention….
“Responsible candidates understand that the men and women of our military are risking their lives for us, and that we must conduct our debate here at home in a way that does not jeopardize our troops in harm’s way,” she said, calling for “conversations conducted with civility and respect.”"

Okay. I’ve had to say this earlier this evening, and I DON’T want to have to say it again… I’m old and arthritic. My sinuses are not as young as they once were, and they can’t stand tea being forced through them. DO NOT post links like this without a MAJOR spew alert…. (Oh, God help me, how I roared… I used to have a cat that did that…)
OT – this “street money” that Liarman distributed really creeps me out…
can one man go any lower?
Well, it looks like Charlie Crist has been outed. Charlie is the Republican running (and leading in the polls) for Governor of our infamous State of Florida.
Check this out.

Kerry could have still slammed Bush and knocked the legs out of this a day earlier, IMO.
If I was in Iraq this is what I’d be pissed about.
Bush: Our troops are plenty smart
WTF was that? Reinforcing that I’m an ignorant dumb ass?

We have to get the lazy, crazy incumbents out & forever on notice! Then the money has got to go and clean elections have to be the standard and then we may just be able to recover our Republic.
Just think of it, a true democracy here where we take care of our own and are truly benevolent to others with only justice and compassion in mind– think of all that it will mean for the world.

gonna just think pure thoughts tonight. Sorry if it is lame.

Hi VG -
How are you! I’ve been off the last few days….
We had the Spiral Dance here on Saturday for Samhain and I was off playing…
Then the cats and I had houseguests: two adults, two teenage women, and three dogs.
A delightful stay.
Who knew that 20th century biomedicine had the foresight to eliminate competition from midwives….
all through supporting the European witch trials of the previous centuries?
Not Galileo, I’d imagine…
Any way, the kitties are well (they’ve all come out) and they love the brush. Love, love, love it. Nudge off the table onto the floor and call to me love it!
Thanks VG, if the kitties loved the equine brush any more they’d need saddles…..
Thanks also for the linky….my home is dial-up, but I’ve saved the link for the toobz cafe
(and the welcome mat at chez Murphy may be under revison. I can endure incivility and historical ignorance, but the dogs’ present of fleas and ticks is gross.)
Speaking of gross:
Six more days to overthrow the GOP Reich!
Woo-hoo.
Valley Girl @ 215
My mom’s Uncle Mac – a country doc who made the rounds in rural Ohio – travelled with his kitty. At home, the kitty used and flushed the toilet…
kirk- are you telling me that you actually GOT the equine cat brush????!!!! For real?
Balrog, for your barbecue you don’t add trolls? WELL…. Don’t invite ME for dinner… Trolls have a certain piquant je ne sais quois without which barbecue just ain’t worth chewing on… (Yeah, I know trolls are tough, but tasty….)
Cozumel,
I think once the Republicans had latched on to the Kerry gaffe they weren’t going to let go of it for a day or two, not until they had beaten their breasts and sounded all sanctimonious over it. And again if it hadn’t been him they would have found someone else. BTW Kerry’s initial response was pretty good. His eventual apology was just part of this Republican inspired and Hillary abetted kabuki.

VG, my kitty was just fascinated by water that moved… She flushed the toilet (I guess she learned by watching), she turned the faucet on… One of her treats was to have the water in the bathroom sink turned on to a trickle so she could play with it and bite it. She was a VERY special kitty!

Please tell me how everbody! My little one has been so sick from diabetes and has gone thru so much litter(28 lbs a week) and accidents.
Marion in Savannah @ 222
Toss a troll on the grill, and they just get tougher and tougher. You’ve got to smoke them, long and slow, until the meat just drops off the bones.
Marion in Savannah @ 225
One of the house cats I stayed with in CT (of equine cat brush fame) would howl to me or others to turn on the kitchen tap, and leap up to drink. But, apparently not as smart as yours. She sounds like a VERY special kitty indeed.
oh, perhaps we can continue this on the next thread… TRex has Late Nite up!!!
Angie, I just had my second kitty diagnosed with diabetes. She is starting to do great with insulin shots (which she doesn’t even seem to feel) and the vet’s suggestion of high-protein cat food. Either Fancy Feast or Science Diet kitten food were mentioned by my vet. My guess is what I’ll spend in medicine and special food I’ll save in litter, and have a happier, healthier kitty. If you want, e-mail me at mgpaquin at aol dot com and we can compare notes. My kitty never USED the toilet, just flushed it…!
CTRex is upstairs.
One of mine stands in the bathtub and howls until I turn on the tap.
angie, Marion- best cat litter ever.

If you want to give her a REAL thrill, toss a Q-Tip into the tub… Mine go NUTS chasing it… It slides up one side of the tub, down the other, and they spin like tops chasing it… Fun for all involved.
I just posted my first YouTube on my blog. Forrest Gumped my way right through it.
Thanks for the heads up Jane on the “honorable republican”.
And now we return you to Dubyas Gestalt theory of foreign policy.
Marion in Savannah @ 230
My little one was diagnosed in April and I have been giving him shots twice a day and testing his blood sugar too, but he got so sick 3 weeks ago and we had to leave him at the vet clinic. I took him home after no answers except “there may be nothing more to do, he may have a tumor” even though all the ultrasounds and xrays and bloodwork were negative. Now he’s happy, jumping into my lap, snuggling and gaining weight… finally. His glucose is ca. 200 at peak, too. Thank you for giving me hope!
We switched out his dry food to protein rich food upon diagnosis, too. He was so finicky when we switched!
Hugh @ 223
Hugh,
I hear you, but, if Kerry would have knocked this out on day one, there wouldn’t have been Hillary on day two. It was festering and dominating the news cycle.
Thank you VG @ 233. :)
My previous kitty (now deceased from eating too many balloons left over from my grandson’s birthday party) would ONLY drink water from the bathroom sink. She would come and give me the ‘look’ and I would go and turn the bathroom faucet on. Later I would come back and turn it off. She would do her ‘business’ in the tub, which meant I had to do the sterialize bit, but otherwise she was a great kitty.
The kitty I have now does better but hates all adults (other than me) and prefers the company of children.
More great stuff on Lamont blog – again h/t “lochness monster”..
Jane,
This is my third post to you on this, because it’s that important: Bill “triangulate the Democratic party” Clinton has made robo-calls (I got one) in CT telling people to vote, but not telling them WHO to vote FOR. Why is he not supporting Ned Lamont, the winner of the Democratic primary? Could it be in some way connected to his wife’s “presidential” bid, which is growing less and less likely even as I write? Can someone please get through to Bill and tell him that he needs to come through for Ned Lamont?
My LTE published (see below) yesterday in the Danbury News Times, one of the papers in the 5th district. They endorsed Chris Murphy (Dem) against Nancy Johnson (Bush cheerleader), which is great news. And here’s what I wrote:
Send Ned Lamont to the U.S. Senate
Nov 01 2006
My husband and I were in attendance for the first Connecticut Senate debate in Stamford on Oct. 19.
Each candidate was allowed time for an opening statement. Joe Lieberman opened with a homage to his hometown city of Stamford, as well as his parents, teachers and rabbi. He thanked them for teaching him right from wrong.
Apparently, somewhere along the way, Mr. Lieberman forgot what right from wrong truly means. He forgot his so-called principles when he signed off on Senate Bill S. 3930, the Military Commissions Act of 2006 (which I prefer to call the Detainee Torture Bill).
This bill would authorize the president to establish military commissions for the trial of alien unlawful enemy combatants. The bill would authorize the secretary of defense to convene military commissions and, in concert with the attorney general, establish the rules and procedures governing military commissions.
S. 3930 also revises the War Crimes Act and would amend the habeas corpus provisions of the United States Code.
Habeas corpus, Joe? The basic right for each citizen to know why he is being held in jail?
It’s no longer enough for Mr. Lieberman to plead for “bipartisanship” any more, not when he so willingly caves to the bad leadership of the president and his party, when he is so willing to upend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Elect the true Democrat to the U.S. Senate on Nov. 7. Send Ned Lamont to Washington!
Katherine Harris is hot in a shriveled up slutty kind of way.
