Tucker Carlson is on MSNBC asking Al Sharpton if, as a Democrat, he resents the fact that John Kerry is making it "all about himself" a week before the election.
Oh fer the love of Gawd. They just hate it when Democrats like Mike Stark and John Kerry fight back. This is the GOP nightmare one week before the election, that high profile Democrats start saying stuff like this:
The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.
Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they're afraid to debate real men. And this time it won't work because we're going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq."
Al Sharpton went on to observe that "If John Kerry is smart, he will keep the issue out there about what he said about Iraq" and "thanks be to Tony Snow. He's brought [the war] back front and center." Even the WSJ acknowledges that the war is what's killing the GOP at the polls. The only ones who seem to be proud of their roles in leading us into war are George Bush, Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman.
Ding-Dong Dawn Frantangelo cited the discredited Doug Schwartz two week-old outlier Q-Poll, backed up by nothing either before or since, that said Lamont is behind by 17 points.

NOT! It is about Iraq and more and Kerry made that crystal clear.

We will see what happens with this comment timestamp approx 7:54est which is 4:54pacific.

Dangerstein is hacking the toobz again?
A Lou Dobbs poll asked if Kerry should apologize to the soldiers in Iraq and 74% said NO. Sweet!
Some brighter news…Behind our manufacturing plant at work, we have a large pond. Everytime the boss looks for us, we’re usually out back feeding the fish (brim, bass, shiners, etc.) We now have a baby alligator. He is so cute and about 4 feet long. The inside of his mouth is pure white and no teeth yet. He kind of lays low and tries to play dead so that he can catch a fish as they go for the bread we throw and then he brings it to the shore and more or less gums it to death.
He is really sweet.
Well, today he swam up so fast that I thought he was after me and I tripped and fell in the water. It was so damn funny. Scared the hello out of me. Anyway, if anyone wants to see him, here’s a pic of him in the pond.

Bush and Blair sent the troops to Iraq on a lie but Kerry should apologize.
Nice!
“Bush says military is plenty smart”
Sweet Jesus, let this nightmare end soon.
Kerry has done it about half right, which is way better than what he could muster in 2004. But he has put himself in a corner with his response, so he has no choice but to fight his way out of it. He has to keep wielding this issue like a club and beat Bush and Cheney senseless with it. But he also needs to acknowledge how what he said can be misconstrued by our soldiers, because it can. The spin so far is just making him look like a weasel. Probably because he is a weasel, albeit a weasel with some medals from Vietnam. What he said sounded bad, and he has to tread carefully here because Republicans are already in overdrive to smear everybody with it. This will not die away in one news cycle if the Righties have anything to say about it, but Kerry can do himself and the democrats a huge favor by finding a creative way to placate the military over this, while still keeping the spotlight on the stupid jerks who got us into this mess in the first place.
I bet they stop talking about Kerry by tomorrow.

“They’re trying to fire up their base, cuz, well, it’s all they got…” I been sayin for 6 years that “their
base” is about 17-25% of the voting population and that they will ALWAYS vote. The key is to get the rest of the NON-fascist voting population motivated to vote and now it’s happening…the fascist message directed to their “base” is mobilizing the ANTI-fascist voters and discouraging the old Republican fascist fellow travelers.
This election is gunna be a political Hurricane Katrina for the Republican Party…the fascist party is gunna look like New Orleans on November 8. If the Democrats don’t take 40 House seats from the falangists and at least 7 or 8 Senate seats, there better be an investigation!

Republicans Say They’re Sorry
How nervous are GOPers, one week out? Just ask the candidates, at least 3 of whom are running new TV ads acknowledging the uphill challenges they face 11/7.
“People tell me, Linc, I really like you, but I want to send Bush a message,” Sen. Lincoln Chafee admits in a new ad. “I’ve always stood for principle, even if it meant standing alone.”
MN SEN candidate Mark Kennedy closes his new MN SEN ad on nat’l security by saying, “I approve this message, even though I know it may not be what you want to hear.”
In OR GOV, Ron Saxton tries to dance toward his state’s anti-GOP middle. “National politics are a mess, and I’m as angry as you are. But this election is about Oregon, and change,” he says. “I’m a Republican, but I’ll be with my party when it’s right, and against it when it’s wrong.”
While many campaigns are closing dirty, these GOP ads in blue states take a different tack. Underdogs, they’re pleading with voters to ignore nat’l dynamics and focus on the face on their TV screens. Will it succeed? Perhaps. But why is it voters don’t get ads like this, which pitch the “honesty” value only when that candidate is trailing, perhaps, trailing badly? ~~~

My original comment, after laughing about being the zero 3 times in one day, was about whether I was writing on a sufficiently serious topic given that 3,000-10,000 American troops have died[oh please, do you think they’re giving us the right number? when they don’t count anyone who dies in the helicopter or within the week at the hospital?]
My response: our joy is our life force. Our joy is the source of energy which gives us strength to pick up that fired o’glake once again and take the battle to the enemy.
Our joy: our children and grandchildren, nature, the photographs of birds and the universe Christy gives us, ideas from Pull Up A Chair, the circling of the wagons whenever an fdl member is in pain, these give us energy, strength, and POWER.
Comments seem to be stacking one upon another. My second comment was in response to punaise; it appeared as a replacement for my first comment even tho this was before punaise even chimed in.
Then I noted the strange happenings at 7:49est, and the 7:49 replaced my original comment (?) and then this comment itself was subsumed by the impostor replacement comment at 7:54. If all of this new stuff appears near the top of the thread, at the ghost time of 4:27pacific time, then the replacement comments have struck again. My words………gone……..I changed my screen name to make sure this comment didn’t replace the other 4. The first one was pretty good! Lost forever it seems. Such is life.

Glenn Greenwald has two really disturbing posts on the political director of ABC News Mark Halperin’s masochistic political fellatio of the right wing nut case Hugh Hewitt [No relation, thank God]. I don’t get to see Jon Stewart and Colbert down here in NZ (I think they may be on a pay channel we don’t get), but how in the world can they select what to cover with such an abundance of possibilities? I can hardly click the mouse fast enough to keep up anymore.
My US home has had Cheney and now Bush coming to stump for Jim Ryun, the man who thought he would always win by running on past Olympic glory and Jesus (just don’t look at the Abramoff money or lock-step support of Bush). I guess he was too famous to serve in the Vietnam, though he was born in 1947. He voted against soldiers being protected from predatory insurance policies. Wow, it’s not often you find a *real* motherfucker.
Melanie Morgan was also running but she knows when she’s outclassed
I think the term is outranked, although she’s about as rank as they can be.

I actually was in an elevator in Jerusalem with G. Gordon. I recognised him but didn’t say naything to him. This was about 1993. One thing I noticed was that he was wearing leather pants. Sort of struck me as strange but then I am not from the big city.
ewww, AZ Matt.

Leather pants.
Ready, set, go!

I’d like to know if Bill thinks Lieberman would even be in the race if Bill hadn’t given him a big bill lovefest in the primary, and if he thinks Lieberman’s donation from Mellon-Scaife has created and lieberloving remorse.

When I was sixty-three
I wore my leather pants
I wore my black leather pants, and white pirate shirt
In Jerusalem
I was so hot…so very very hot…

Her hair did look rather untended so I can only assume she sucked down all the hairspray fumes beforehand and had nothing left over for her head.M
Just another AquaNet airhead. It seems to be a Republican thing. Have you ever seen so many bad, helmeted hairstyles in your life other than on right-wing women. Saints above, I told someone last night I was afraid to spit around here because Kay Bailey Hutchinson had so much AquaNet lingering in the atmosphere, I was afraid the loogey I hocked at her would suspend in mid-air, rather than landing on her.
My favorite part of Kerry’s comeback was the I don’t need a White House mouthpiece behind a podium paragraph. And how he got a swipe in at Rush Limbaugh at the same time. Way too cool.

Believe it or not, “Pickles” is the pet name Dubya gave his wife, long ago.
He’s given everybody else a nickname. Why not her, too?

I concur and posted a comment over at Americablog that mirrors the thoughts here. My only guess is that the Thugs must have thought Kerry wouldn’t fight back since he didn’t the last time they swiftboated him.
Bet they’re sorry now. Kerry totally refocused the debate on the real liars. I’m glad to see some fight in the Dems (and Kerry for cryin’ out loud). Had they the temerity to speak up a few years ago we might not be in as deep a mess as we are now.
We should have brought the troops home as soon as (back when) we won the war.
Enjoy.
@47, If brown shirts were fashionable Allen’s body guards would be wearing them. Maybe George will declare him a terrorist and disappear him soon. These are the same kind of people that keep free citizens out of Bush campaign rallies. That’s what they all stand for.
Teddy- I’m glad someone got it :))
CNN’s Anderson Cooper has just had two or three talking heads on condemning Kerry about his “outburst” and how Kerry is “all about himself”. They really think he will hurt the party talking the truth…wimpy whiners, all of them

More like complete and utter wankers, but I think we’d otherwise agree. Christ, who were these clowns, and why wasn’t someone included who could actually say something pro-Dem and anti-Bush?
Ok, ok, we all know the answer to that question.

If Al Gore had been president, instead of that dumbass George W. Bush, then the 9/11 attacks wouldn’t have happened, and America wouldn’t be stuck in a never-ending war in Iraq.
Why?
1) Regarding 9/11, the well-oiled counter-terrorism machine, headed by Richard Clarke, that President Clinton had established, would have continued doing it’s excellent job under President Al Gore, thus leading to the capture of some, if not all, of the al Qaeda pre-9/11 conspirators in the United States. Furthermore, a President Al Gore would have probably followed through on the threat issued by President Bill Clinton to the al Qaeda leadership in Afghanistan, and once the U.S.S. Cole attackers were identified in early 2001, then President Al Gore would have vigorously engaged the right-wing religious enemy, al Qaeda, in Afghanistan…possibly even capturing or killing Osama bin Laden…before 9/11.
2) Does anyone think that a President Al Gore would have pulled the stunts and the outright lies that Bush used to start a war in Iraq? Would a President Al Gore have “fixed” the intelligence around a “regime-change” policy involving Iraq? Only a complete fool (or a Republican) would possibly think this. The only way a President Al Gore would have launched an attack against Iraq would have been if Iraq had either attacked us directly or had pulled an al Qaeda and bombed one of our overseas embassies or attacked one of our military assets (like the U.S.S. Cole).
In other words, while Donald Rumsfeld and his insane military plans have been a disaster for our military, and George W. Bush has been a disaster for our “rule of law” democracy, an Al Gore presidency would have saved countless U.S. lives and untold American taxpayer funds.
Which, of course, is why Karl rove continues to trot out the Republican talking point that the terrorists win if the Democrats win. The truth is the exact opposite. As long as Republicans keep pulling their dumbass stunts involving our military, our treasury and our diplomacy, the terrorists will keep applauding for the Republicans and secretly praying to Allah that the Republicans will continue stealing even more elections from the Democrats.
It is obvious after so much time that the best friend the terrorists have in the United States are George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and all their Republican enablers.
I read this whole blog in search of one intelligent comment. Didn’t find it.
I hope there are no sharp objects near you.
Oh, BTW, Kerry’s a dumbass. What he said makes no sense and if it were a joke it is even lamer. Bush has similar educational credentials to…..Kerry! He did not say a word about wisdom and prudence, where he might have made a case. He’s a loser, literally.
Enjoy your hatefest. Keep on the sunny side. Love to all.
Are Democrats idiots or do they just have amnesia? They are, once again, playing right into the hands of Republicans and their divide and conquer tactics. Kerry’s response to his critics was strong and persuasive. Why can’t Democrats stand behind Kerry and respond to Republican critics as forcefully as Kerry did? Instead, they are distancing themselves from him and making themselves appear, once again, like they just can’t maintain a unified front. Why can’t they seem to do this, a tactic that Republicans have, for better or worse (…for worse…), almost mastered? The Foley scandal was not just scandalous, showing just how low Republican morals can sink in the face of power, but it was DIVISIVE, and it showed a fragmented and vulnerable side to their party. By distancing themselves from Kerry, Democrats are likewise displaying a fragmented front, allowing the manipulative Republican voice to creep into the cracks. How Kerry responded was strong and resolute. It was the only time he actually came out and said how Machiavellian, devious, and cowardly Republican war-mongers actually are. Why can’t Democrats stand behind this message? Instead, they are splitting at the seams and letting the Republicans, once again, set the nature of debate and discourse. Democrats, wise up, stand firmly to a united base.
I posted these elsewhere and mailed them to the DNC. I hope that someone is thinking along these lines. The issue is not dead. It was on page one of at least two major papers today (NY Times and SF Chronicle) that I know of, Rove was interviewed by CBS news as I heard two hours ago still talking up Kerry as badmouthing the troops.
But the dems can do ju jitsu and flip it right back. I am not claiming brilliance here, just urge them to send out good spokespeople now (Dean, Murtha, Pelosi, Reid…) with something like this
About the joke:
John Kerry botched a joke about the President, not the troops. George W. Bush has botched this war, endangered our troops, and allowed nearly three thousand young americans die in this invasion and occupation.
About John Kerry as “party leader”:
John Kerry is one senator out of a hundred, and he is not running for office at this time. If you want to get us unstuck from this war, you need to elect a new democratic majority in the house and senate, because this republican congress is rubber stamping the failed policies of this administration.
About insulting the troops:
John Kerry and his democratic colleagues have consistently stood up for the troops, voting for body armor, veterans benefits, and oversight of this war when the republican congress rubber stamped Bush’s failed policies. You don’t have to believe me–the non-partisan Iraq and Afghan Veterans of America gave consistently higher ratings to democrats than republicans on supporting troops and vets.
Closer:
George W. Bush and his administration are using this distortion of John Kerry’s remarks and record to distract from their failure to lead in this war. Vote for a democratic majority in congress now to reverse the failed war leadership of the Bush Administration and the rubber stamp republican congress.
Sen. John Kerry may have botched a joke attempt, but it’s George W. Bush who is the real joke…a cruel, harsh joke of a president who invaded Iraq without provocation, an invasion that has gotten hundreds of thousands of people killed or maimed for life.
George W. Bush, a cruel, harsh joke of a president, who joked about not finding any WMD in Iraq, even as our soldiers were dying daily for his “mistake.”
