Pulling any assets out of Virginia, NJ, Tn, or Mo right now would be total stupidity.

Jeesh!

True. We need to be frugal and use money in the hottest races to run ads and use great public speakers like Bill Clinton and Al Gore in states which have been held by Republicans for a while, but might now be swung in the final days of this race. On top of that I think there’s a chance for future potential Democratic Party presidential hopefuls (who aren’t tied up with tough races) to go to Cincinnati, Ohio and Orlando, Florida to convince those voters.

We might tackle some other states like Louisiana and Mississippi with nationally funded radio campaigns reminding the public of how the Republicans abandoned them.

Tackling states like Texas would be much tougher because they’ve already rigged machines to ensure ’success’. Perhaps just revealing the Republican criminality would be enough to swing some races to Dems down there.

RawStory.com is reporting on the bought judgeships mentioned on this blog yesterday.

Clusterfuck is the commander in chief. No one can force him to withdraw troops. Dems could threaten to cut off funding- but they’d never get the votes and it’s political suicide.

Clusterfuck can keep the troops in Iraq as long as he wants- up to the impending in of his term. After that it’s up to a new pres.

He is starting to think about his “legacy” which at the moment is bankrupt. He needs to get out of the major commitment to Iraq and show some progress temporarily. If it all blows up in a few years- well that’s someone else’s fault.

I think that after the elections- the goopers and the dems are going to take on this issue seriously and give Clusterfuck some firm marching orders. There will be a change.

I doubt that the Dem powers-that-be could ever get enough together to simply repeal the Iraq AUMF. But, that would do it. Withdrawing the AUMF is very plain. The CIC no longer has Congressional authority and the troops have to go to home or perhaps to Kuwait, if Kuwait would have them.

That would put Bush in the uncomfortable position of having to veto that bill. From then on, no matter what happens, Bush couldn’t blame Democrats. He would own it, lock, stock and barrel.

That’s one of the things he’s afraid of with a change of leadership in Congress. They’ll suddenly be able to start making him pay directly. No more blaming everyone else.

GREAT NEWS FROM MI-8!!! And the candidacy of Jim Marcinkowski.

The GOP incumbent and current Deputy Whip Mike Rogers is starting to panic. Evidentially he has seen THE MATH, and it is disturbing. He has refused to release the results of two internal polls taken in his backyard to the papers. He was a no show last night to a cable TV debate. And he has only just asked the Oakland County GOP for help with the ground-game. In September this district was rated as Republican Safe. It recently changed to Leans Republican. That may be about to change.

Plus, Joe Wilson (yes, that Joe Wilson) will be campaigning with Jim in the area tomorrow.

WOOOO! and likewise HOOOOOO! I’m checking my address book to see if I have any rellies there that need calling. : )

That’s one of the few places where the candidate (Max Burns) is willing to be seen with him.

btw, toobz are really slow again today - took 10 minutes to load the page on dial-up, must be another DOS attack.

Great idea! Mr HotFlash and I were discussing stuff to take to the polls (cell phone so folks can call to say they will be late due to lines at polling places, cameras to record whats going on, bottled H2O and healthy snacks in backpack, enough to pass around in case people get faint) and wondered if there was a song list? I always hated We Shall Overcome, sounds like a dirge to me. These’ll do fine. Any other suggestions?

Another “nagathon” post over at Lamont’s. I will help. Will you?

Nag-A-Thon 2006: Attorney General Blumenthal

On the day of the primary, Blumenthal leaped at the chance to investigate the bogus Lieberman “website hack”. Even though it’s now months later, we’ve heard not a single peep about what really happened. The silence speaks volumes, doesn’t it?

So doesn’t it seem a little odd that Connecticut’s esteemed Attorney General would be uninterested in a substantive claim of campaign finance fraud clearly shown by Lieberman’s own filings?

Let’s show Mr. Blumenthal that we’re awake, and that we want some action from him on Lieberman’s ridiculous efforts to subvert democracy. Without further ado, here is today’s nag:

Attorney General Blumenthal:

Recent FEC filings by the Lieberman senatorial campaign seem to indicate that his campaign is in violation of campaign finance laws. The primary issue appears to be a “slush fund”, which the campaign appears to have used for illicit purposes. The funds in question appear as “petty cash” in the Lieberman FEC filing, for an astonishing $387,561, with no details as to the disbursement of these funds.

Lieberman’s massive slush fund comprised almost 8% of all of his expenditures in the reporting period. That’s almost one out of every $12 that Lieberman is effectively hiding. His campaign disbursed $387,000 in unmarked “petty cash” in just 12 days. That’s $32,000 every single day, with no accounting at all for how it was spent. Worst of all, this abuse occurred immediately before the Connecticut democratic primary, and probably influenced the election. Lieberman’s slush fund seems illegal to us, since the relevant campaign finance statute reads:

A political committee may maintain a petty cash fund out of which it may make expenditures not in excess of $100 to any person per purchase or transaction. If a petty cash fund is maintained, it shall be the duty of the treasurer of the political committee to keep and maintain a written journal of all disbursements. This written journal shall include the name and address of every person to whom any disbursement is made, as well as the date, amount, and purpose of such disbursement. In addition, if any disbursement is made for a candidate, the journal shall include the name of that candidate and the office (including State and Congressional district) sought by such candidate.

11 CFR 102.11.

We are calling on you to perform a rapid and thorough investigation of this matter. On the surface, Lieberman’s campaign finances are blatantly illegal, and are exactly what our country doesn’t need right now. Our country is at a critical juncture, and we all need the voice of Connecticut voters to be heard in November, without undue influence from Lieberman’s corrupt campaign.
