what if Karl’s snarky smirk is because he and his peeps have the voting machines all figured out?

Exactly. It is not a bluff at all. The guy knows the machines have been rigged.

Christy, aside from the fact that you used a dirty word, “retail”, you’re right on. Well, you see I’ve worked retail more years than I’d care to admit.
Yes indeed, I think Rove has been a master bluffer. Emphasis on the “has been”.

In re: bluffing

In “Bush’s Brain” there’s a story of Rove’s days on a high school debate team. His squad would appear for their debates with boxes and boxes of reference cards…. many more than their opponents, who tended to be psyched out by the threat of so much preparation.

In fact, 90% of the boxes Rove’s team stacked up at their table contained blank cards. It was all a ruse to intimidate the other side.

What do the Republicans have to sell this year?

They have a bin laden with no bin Laden.

They had books, but there was the page scandal, … say no more.

Now they’re trying to sell “sex, lies and distortion”, but I don’t think the voters are interested in that ‘product’.

Bush might be preparing an overseas military show with flashing lights, explosions and such, but he’s done that before and the voters might be tired of it.

If Dubya has any say in the matter it will be something stupid, like claiming they’re going to win when every poll on the planet says “Dems win big!”

I say we march into Texas and stomp ‘em flat at the polls, take all their House seats and laugh at them.

Isn’t it sort of obvious Dems should win Mississippi and Louisiana? I wonder how anybody there could stand to vote for a Republican?

Please let me weigh in on this post–you have nailed it. I think this is the best post I have seen from you and your folks on the site in a very long time–yours on the mine tragedy of this time last year contends, and they are all excellent. To others posting later, please join the effort and help get out the vote on these issues.

Once more, thanks for all the efforts all of you make, the wit, the snark, and the commitment to improving our childrens’ future, not to mention ours.

The war games in the Persian Gulf start tomorrow.

I’m sure that Rove has planned a little Tonkin Gulf drama to happen during the exercises, a little October surprise that will make us all patriotic and vote for Bush’s little allies in the house and senate.

Dread Scot @ 119

Me too man, me too! I wonder, how did Karl “know”. And the main stream media rolled over and took it; “Sure, our exit polling has been honed to almost a fine science and sure it looks mathematically impossible that the ratios are off that far from the results, but there must simply be something wrong with our methods–not the election, surely.” How did Karl know? And does the fat, rat bastard know again?

EPU?

redstateleroy at 120 — you are correct that they aren’t quite the same thing, even though the analysis going into a bluff or semi-bluff is a bit similar. I ought to have made that more clear above that I was thinking about mental analytical process as I was writing this, and trying to juggle the writing in between phone calls, and I really appreciate you clarifying for me. Thanks!

This is psy ops, but it is aimed at Dems or Dem-leaning independents. Solely aimed at repubs. How will the base come out to vote, if all the media and pollsters are saying Dems are going to win? What Rove is saying to them is - hey, the media are wrong. We have our own polls and we are going to win.

That’s why W was disappointed when papa Bush talked about Dems taking control of the Congress. He doesn’t want to hear that kind of talk and more importantly, he doesn’t want the base to hear that or think that.
