137

…there’s more a-foot here in the realm of absentee ballots that may not reach their destinations because of a requirement for extra postage…

Why would there be a requirement for extra postage in some areas of OH? Are the ballots larger? Consisting of more pages? Using bigger envelopes? What?

Because where you are doesn’t determine if you need to pay extra postage. It’s the size and weight of the envelope.

I haven’t seen any of the actual ballots. I just read about the problem in the local newspaper. Supposedly thousands of ballots might be involved, though, and in a reasonably Democratic-leaning area. So it could significantly influence the election if things aren’t straightened out.

Thanks for your response, & the info. ;->

This return address = mailing address is a trick that big corp’s like Citibank use, to make sure you don’t do the “got the payment back because I didn’t put enough postage on my envelope” delaying tactic that some customers use. They’ve been doing this for years. If they can… YOU can. Don’t make a habit of this for yourself, though, to defraud the postal service.

I’d also check with your local statutes to see if absentee ballots must be mailed with the sender’s return address listed on the envelope. Some states can be weird about things like this.

Jane? anyone? Especially Ohio-ans…

Kos contributor describes most of it pretty well (at link above), but there’s more a-foot here in the realm of absentee ballots that may not reach their destinations because of a requirement for extra postage, in some areas of OH (e.g., Summit County, home to plenty Dem. votes if they can JUST manage to be counted!?!)

As it is, and I did NOT tell you this: if you really want to reduce the chances that the ballots won’t get there, make sure that all of the mailing envelopes for ballots have the return address the same as the mailing address. This will make sure the envelope gets to the election office, even if someone forgets to put enough postage on it.

If Lieberman is running as an Independant then the Democrats owe him nothing, bubkis, nada. He joins the other Independants on their lonely seats shouting into the wind. If the Democrats give him a Chairmanship after this race then they deserve the condemnation that is sure to follow. He jumped ship, let him sink on his own.

With Ned down only 8% in the latest polls, all it would take is Obama and other bigs coming into close it to perhaps several %. Then ballot efficiency would do it for Ned. When 2008 rolls around, we are not going to forget this betrayal.

I can’t stand the DC Dems and as a former Connecticut resident, I strongly support Ned Lamont. But I am appalled that on this site too, the Matt Stoller quote about only Kerry and Clark helping Lamont is being repeated. Matt may be rooting for Clark, but he has no business not mentioning that John Edwards did not hesitate but went right to Connecticut to rally with Ned. He raised money and brought to the foreground the issue most dear to his heart, poverty and fighting for the middle class. Don’t you see what they are doing? The insiders don’t want an economic populist to win. Be that Lamont or Edwards. The Democratic party is dead if we are not for the working man and women which we all are except for those of us with trust funds.

Thanks so much for the wealth of links. Golden!

I’ll fire all these off to state level Dem. campaign-meisters & candidates, run a copy over to our feisty Medina County Dem. crew, share with some other activist types I know, & try to fire off a letter to the editor or several before the election.

YES, I too believe Blackwell’s going to JAIL! HAH! . . . e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y. . .

In the meantime, we’ve got an election to [try to] save. “there is no try. there is only do” pops into the noggin from grade B moviedom?/StarWars?

Wish us all luck here in OH. I don’t scare easily, but after 2000 & everything since, I’m shaking, mostly with pure raw ANGER!

(main picture in my head has always been of DeLay’s henchmen storming the Miami-Dade Board of Elections, and GETTING AWAY WITH IT! Never will understand why those scum didn’t go to jail!)
