Reference #34:
I interact a lot with right-wingers down here in the Redneck Belt, and the two candidates they seem most afeared of in 2008 are Feingold and Clark. They lust longingly for Hilary to get the nomination, but they get really nervous at the thought of Clark. Clark would likely play better in the south than Feingold. I like Feingold a lot, but I’ve got to say, Clark has been more visible working for candidates in 2006, which counts for a lot.

Sounds like a Clark/Feingold ticket would play well in the South.

One thing Clark has over Gore: he definitely won’t be picking Holy Joe as a running mate.

Clark sold me in 2004 when he had a comprehensive plan for the future, and the future wasn’t the next year but the next ten years.
I keep picking Clark in Kos’s presidential poll. He’s my man.

Actually, he had a plan for the next 100 years.

I see Howie, but no Jane or Christy listed as contributors to Ned in his FEC filings. Odd.

why did’t the campaign invite Rep. Murtha after he said he would come to campaign for Ned if asked?

As I’ve written, I’d like to see Bill Clinton give a speech from Arkansas and an Al Gore speaking from Nashville (both shown on C-SPAN).

Also, immediately after, I’d like a fire-breathing speaker, such as Jesse Jackson, mowin’ ‘em down across the South, from Louisiana to Mississippi to Georgia, like General Sherman scorching the ground. This might not convince Southerners to vote Dem, but it could discourage them thoroughly, so they won’t vote at all. You could call it a Get Out The Vote for Democracy Speaking Tour.

As George Allen is going to be tough to stop, the final big speech might have to be Howard Dean speaking in Richmond VA, just as Grant accepted Lee’s surrender.

Time that the Democratic party had our own Eisenhower: It’s Wesley Clark! I will never forget that he was there on the ground for Ned Lamont when so many other Senate Dems were “washing their hair”. Cowards!

Ahhh if memory serves, wasn’t biden the guy who had to quit a presidential bid some years ago because it turns out he’s a plagiarist? Thought so. Personal honor indeed!

I like clark alot too. Myself, I am not so much worried about gov’t experience. That’s not a sure thing. But I understand it is for some.
He would be the strong compliment to another candidate. He’d be a strong VP.

Wes Clark almost never has a written speech, but may have jotted a few talking points down.

As far as governing is concerned, as NATO Supreme Commander he certainly got extensive political experience (negotiating Peace Treaties and dealing with political disagreements at the highest levels of our own country’s leadership). Clark has long had real responsibility for many important domestic issues at the many bases he commanded. He initiated improvements in health care, education and other basic needs - and he was beloved for taking good care of his people. Clark even had to make sure the potholes were filled! Over 550,000 people serve under the NATO Supreme Commander, which is like being Governor of a small state. Even better, Clark never treated anyone as “less than.” The military has a high percentage of minorities - and Wes Clark was known for diversity in his promotions and challenging inequalities in the system. He’s a man of principle who has shown his willingness and ability to make change for the better. America desperately needs Clark’s higher standard of leadership.
