New Ned ad. That sound you hear? Turncoat Joe's head exploding.
(H/T to dab from CT for the heads up.)
NED!
CHRISTY
Time to fold Joey!
Great ad, nothing like the sound of Joe’s head exploding to get the day off to a good start.
GrandmaJ and Dab from Ct.,
Left you a note at the end of the last thread.
EPU’d as usual.
Christy,
Thank you for the Fitz fix yesterday. I had Parent/Teacher Conferences in the morning so would check in periodically. I could not hit the “refresh” button fast enough.
The “grilling” article that Disgusted in St. Louis cited was awesome too.
OMG that ad is great! I can hear the sound clear to AZ….. teehee..
I cannot and I will not let this ad stand.
dab — I read your comments below and feel bad that I got you all worked up last night. I really, truly do believe that Bloomberg’s political machine is more hype than actual power.
Remember these are paid people. Keep saying Lobbyists for Lieberman — it’s catchy and makes me laugh.
fantastic
This will really hit home.
It amazes me how little the people of CT know about what Joey’s really been up to the past six years. They still think of him as 1988 Joe. Sorry to say, that Joe no longer exists.
Can’t wait to hear Joey whine about this.
Joe Leaverman @ 6
LOL – I bet the Lamont campaign gets a cease and desist letter – um – right about now
Remember what Joe said – if he were still AG in CT, he’d come down on Ned like a ton of bricks – lol
what an excellent ad! almost makes up for no canvassing for ned today – too much rain :(
There are three things that can happen if Lieberman should win and Democrats take six Rep. Senate seats:
1) He will become a member of the Democratic Caucus and form part of the Democratic majority.
2) He will officially “go Indy” and join the Republican Caucus thereby turning the Senate over to the Republicans.
3) He will accept a Cabinet Appointment (S.O.D.?) which will require Connecticut’s Republican Governor to appoint his replacement, thereby turning the Senate over to the Republicans.
I don’t believe #1 will happen. Democrats need six plus Ned or seven without (God forbid) Ned.
If Democrats only get five, and (again God forbid) Lieberman wins, then ol’ Turncoat Joe probably stays nominally in the Democratic party and continues to cause mischief.
selise @ 11
There will be canvassing tomorrow – I know RevDeb probably has other plans (lol)
OK spot, a little too hokey / Harry & Louise-ish perhaps.
BobbyG @ 14
i like that aspect of it. to me it makes it less slick the those produced by Lobbyists for Lieberman.
UptownNYChick @ 7
Please don’t blame yourself – I would have come across it sooner or later somewhere else.
Personally, having digested the news and listened to what others have to say, I think this move may backfire for Joe.
And it is true, if his internal polling numbers were so great, he wouldn’t be doing this.
BobbyG @ 14
It’s perfect for CT – what can I say.
Rootz
Oooh Jim Webb giving the Democratic response to the president’s address.
He smacks them down on Iraq.

Here is a bit:
It was open to every individual, with no barriers to entry, save the necessity of literacy. This access, it is crucial to add, applied not only to the receipt of information but also to the ability to contribute information directly into the flow of ideas that was available to all;
The fate of ideas contributed by individuals depended, for the most part, on an emergent Meritocracy of Ideas. Those judged by the market to be good rose to the top, regardless of the wealth or class of the individual responsible for them;
The accepted rules of discourse presumed that the participants were all governed by an unspoken duty to search for general agreement.
That is what a “Conversation of Democracy” is all about. What resulted from this shared democratic enterprise was a startling new development in human history: for the first time, knowledge regularly mediated between wealth and power.
The liberating force of this new American reality was thrilling to all humankind. Thomas Jefferson declared, “I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” It ennobled the individual and unleashed the creativity of the human spirit. It inspired people everywhere to dream of what they could yet become. And it emboldened Americans to bravely explore the farther frontiers of freedom — for African Americans, for women, and eventually, we still dream, for all.
This is what we aspire to here on this blog – with accepted rules of discourse, we search for general agreement. Trolls have criticized us as being a closed clique, but i think, by not participating over a long course of time, they haven’t seen many different ideas being mulled around into forms we generally agree on. this is indeed thrilling.
Too little, to late.
The message all along was so simple that even I get it:
Holy Joe=Iraq
Holy Joe=Big Business
Holy Joe=Bush
Why did it take Neds people so long to figure that one out?
Face facts, Neds campaign ads have sucked. School teacher in Bridgeport. Lame. Holy Joe’s attendance. Worse. (People in Connecticut do remember that in the summer and fall of ‘00 Holy Joe was busy with something else.) The new ad is OK, but does not come close to the quality of the negatives the DCCC is running in our 3 competitive congressional districts. Too bad. He could have been a Senator.
letsgetreal @ 21 — I was about to print something much ruder – but stopped myself. I beg to differ about Ned’s ads. You’re new around here – right?
letsgetreal at 21 — we’re going to have to agree to disagree on that one. The schoolteacher in Bridgeport ad was amazing — those kids were fantastic in it. And if you have a question on where the DSCC is in running additional ads on Ned’s behalf, you’ll just have to join the freaking club…
Christy – if you are moderating – can you take away the blockquote from my response in 22. Don’t want to give the concern troll more exposure than he/she already has.
Bloomberg is a Conn. whore. He’s now on my radio begging fo Chris Shays. Interestingly, there is never a mention of the R word and Bloomberg and Shays both stress the word independent and independence
letsgetreal @ 21
Is that you Joe – or one of your alter egos – don’t you have better things to do. You know, like packing up your office in Washington?
Not a troll, clown. I voted for Ned, Have talked him up to doubters and even gave him $50. So f off , Bolshevik.
Sorry, but do you want to beat Holy Joe or Not?
dab from CT @ 13
good guess, but not this time! RevDeb has tomorrow off work… so she’s off to CT with scarecrow, Kathryn in MA and possibly me.
OT– Mohamed El Baradei on cspan now and he’s pretty darn brilliant.
Great ad Ned!
Go Lamont!
OT, but I miss *ilson, when will he be back?
Kathryn in MA @ 20 – glad you like that al gore speech too!
sofistic at 30 — *ilson has been doing some amazing work for a local campaign, and has been swamped. We miss him also. :)
NYT lead editorial: Conserving that Compassion [behind wall]
I win. Just had a bet with my significant other about how my post would get the fur flying. I was right. Ha!
Still like Ned, just think his campaign has sucked. (Post primary)
scarecrow @ 33
wow. gail collins (i presume?) is going out with a bang.
All I can say is I’ll be really depressed if we have the same cast of characters in CT come Nov 8th. I wish at least one contest was other than a dead heat.
I still find it odd that there have been no polls since all three debates.
Great news – selise
Re: Bloomberg – I wonder how Hillary, Bill & Chuck feel about Bloomberg messing around with the Congressional races in CT. They may be ambivalent about Lamont – but this is different. Bloomberg’s GOTV will benefit Chris Shays and Nancy Johnson, too.
Still going to sit on your hands, Dems?
letsgetreal – really? that’s interesting that you’re a supporter and yet will post something that is totally negative and concludes that Ned won’t win. That’s certainly not the sense on the ground in CT. And Joey wouldn’t be calling in Bloomberg if he weren’t concerned.
Lamont has had some good ads and some not so good ads – as have all the other candidates. Personally I think the debates, interviews and town hall events he is doing have more of an impact than some 30 second ads. But I’m just a resident of CT – what do I know.
For those of you in CT regretting that the rain is keeping you from canvassing. I’m in NYC and the rain has stopped. So has the wind. I’m planning to head up tomorrow. I hate to say it, but it will be my first time on the ground. To much keyboard, not enough shoe leather.
I’m glad you find the reaction to your statement that Ned’s campaign has sucked and he’s not going to win amusing. Good for you.
another excellent ned ad (wesley clark) just up on the blog.
iraq? a mistake.
re-electing joe? a mistake
Frankly, I find it difficult to evaluate a campaign by looking at the ads. Lots of times I like em and they do nothing- on the other hand, sometimes I hate em and they work. It’s what they’re doin 24 hours a day on the cable networks. It only matters if they effect the race.

Nice!
Just checked weather underground, and it looks like it will be partly cloudy in Hartford tomorrow and clear through Tuesday. Highs in the 50’s, lows in the 40’s
Sparcatus @ 38
I have Monday and Friday off and heading up from NYC then.
Does anyone know if there are there car-pooling sites?
selise @ 40
Payback’s a bitch, eh Joe?
The General’s got enough spine for the whole Democratic Party. Where’s Obama?
dab at 39 — let it go, man. It’s Saturday, and you have more important things to do…like make yourself a cuppa tea before you go phone bank. :)
Man, good to see Wes Clark isn’t afraid of hurting Lieberman’s feelings
This ad is designed to appeal to older Connecticut residents who have voted for Lieberman two or three times before. Good psychology. It is difficult for people to acknowldege that a person who previously merited their vote may not merit their vote this time. Put another way…Lamont is trying to convince people who previously voted for Joe Lieberman to vote for him this time.Very difficult…has something to do with cognitative dissonance.
BobbyG @

Hi Bobby! were on at the same time for a change! I think the ad is hilarious- engaging and with a very targeted simple message. People will pay attention it.
Christy – I know, I know – I will. I’m about to go visit my mother and play with her puppy.
Nothing like playing with puppies to lower the blood pressure and get out of “election head”.
Thanks for editing my previous comment. I did a Homer Simpson “Duh” after I hit Submit.
dab from CT @

Yes, and it’s what needs to be said. Note Ned is also focusing on what got him into the race to begin with: Iraq. First the Lieberman rhetoric/delusion = Nixon rhetoric/deception; then Lieberman rhetoric/flip-flop = Bush rhetoric flip-flop. He’s made those links very effectively, with their own words/video clips.
I’d like to see one more ad on the Iraq thing, and that’s one with the quote from Germany speech with Joe claiming credit that Bush has just implemented the Lieberman/McCain policy — then link that with how that’s hurt US security and Israeli Security. That would help offset the Bloomberg effect. Final message: after 18 years, Joe hasn’t learned the the most important lessons of US history.
UptownNYChick @ 49
There’s not a lot of fear in that man. Turncoat Joe has had it coming since the ‘04 debates, and as I’ve said: payback’s a bitch.
The General supported Ned in the primary and has no compunction about saying it straight.
Don’t let ‘em rain on your parade. Christy, are you getting sick of Spirit yet?
ARRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!
This is only the FIRST half of the message, Ned. They know now what Joe has been up to but you forgot to tell them what you would do. Voters need to hear the positive message as well. Now, go back and make the Aces, part 2 ad where you tell seniors how you fight to protect Social Security from the Republicans who want to replace it with a 401K. Tell them how you will fight for prescription drug coverage in your universal health plan and will require the government to negotiate with drug companies right now. Then follow it up with how your office will be responsive to the needs of the elderly and disabled in CT in getting SS and medicare/caid benefits resolved for them.
It’s great to make the senoirs question Joe but now you have to give them a reason to jump ship.
Get back to work, Ned.
One week and change to go- this thing’s about over- those candidates who are behind outside the margin of error need to do something other than “more of the same”. Frankly they need to throw mud- and lots of it.
Ned’s best chance is if he collected some oppo research that he’s holding back. Some gets held back because you only want to use it if it’s two minutes left and you’re behind by a couple of touchdowns. There is other stuff that gets held back because you don’t want to give your opponent time to deny it. We’ll know by thursday or so if Ned’s got any of that. It appears that he needs it.
Inventor @ 54
I agree. That ad needs a lot of air play.
selise @ 40
Another great ad.
As for our detractor, it’s easy to win a bet based on how people will react to being insulted; it’s much harder to earn respect back once you’ve lost it by insulting us. An apology would be useful.
selise at 9:01
Thanks for the link to the Clark ad, I hadn’t seen it.
Inventor @ 54
Wes Clark is one of the few Democrats who can actually get the attention of the former Bush voter. He commands respect. He is authoritative, not authoritarian, He gives orders that others feel comfortable following because he knows his $%#^. Wingers and voters with winger tendencies like that. They like being told what to do. The don’t want to be convinced. They want to follow. Lead on, Wes, lead on.
Nothing like a bunch of bad actors reading obviously scripted lines without a shred of authenticity to change people’s minds. I’m embarrassed by the execution of this spot. Do you guys really think it will work? Or are you viewing it through the wishful thinking filter.
I hope Ned trounces Joes… or at least squeaks through. But I don’t think this ad will do Ned much good.
Hey, gang, just popping in; I’m off to the Webb/Warner/Kaine/Feder/Hurst/Moran rally, and then more lit drop.
If any local firepups want to try to meet up there, I’ll be the one in the Webb t-shirt! ;-)
(Oh, okay, and a ponytail; that narrows it down a bit.)

Good luck. I am so sick of Allen.
Hopefully the power of words will be the nail in Lieberman’s political coffin. Monday.

bar graph comparing petty cash from various campaigns.
also in article ~~”Also, today is October 28th – five days after Tom Swan filed a complaint against the Lieberman campaign and Joe Lieberman for their use of petty cash to the FEC. The FEC response should be received by today. Anyone heard anything?”~~
I assumed that this meant five working days- so that would be Monday, not today. Anyone know?
I know this will probably get me labeled a “concern troll” but I agree with letsgetreal that the ads run since the primary have been fairly weak. Cristy, you say the kids in the Bridgeport ad were wonderful and yes I agree, they were quite charming. But will that ad win Ned any votes? The polls don’t show it.
I feel that Lieberman was particularly vulnerable this fall. He got into bed with Bush and should be paying a price, yet, so far he is not. If folks posting here can’t respond to the question of why Lieberman was not thrashed over and over again in Ned’s ads about this (until now, maybe?) then they are not facing reality. And reality right now is 10 points down. (at least) So, please, no huffing and puffing and insults. How about a real discussion?
Stoller has a post up about the two new Lamont ads.
I’d like to know more about these polls???

My sister will be there!
Joy!
Over at MyLeftNutmeg, Matt Browner-Hamlin has done a great job compiling data from FEC expense reports filed by 16 Senate candidates around the country. All candidates spent small amounts, at most a few hundred dollars; Joe spent over $387,000 that he can’t/won’t account for.
Why did Joe use all that cash
Great, thanks!
Hamden Connecticut Person @ 70
Can’t figure out why Ned didn’t nail Ol Joe with the campaign funds issue at the debates- seemed the perfect opportunity. If Ned thinks its demeaning to call yer opponent a liar- then he’s in for a long tuesday night.
To raven,
Its a very cool site.
Your Welcome!
CT Bob has a couple of new good videos, one his interview with Ned about the debates — the last question and Ned’s answer are funny. The other is spazeboy’s piece asking about where the slush fund went. These guys are great.
http://ctbob.blogspot.com/
I am from Maryland, and how I hope that the people of CT elect NED LAMONT. HIS vote also Effects me because I have RETIRED. WES CLARK just hit my top of the list of WHO I AM for PRES. It was Russ Feingold but all of a sudden HE got cold FEET. SO I will be FOLLOWING WES CLARK NOW.
Blackjack @ 77
He has a great PAC, he’s done a really good job helping veterans run as dems.
He has done more for this election than any of the others.
There continues to be a lot of emotion everywhere about NED vs. LIEberman.
I think that all of us supporters of Ned (whatever we think of his campaign management) need to move to whatever can be done to GOOV. At this point in time, the ads are in the can and the money is in the conduit. Its all about ‘on the ground’ efforts.
I for one will be perfectly pleased to eat a full plate of crow should NED persevere!
Bob Kerrey’s interview last night on Hardball.
Kerrey on Iraq
At one point, he agrees with Matthews that we were led into the war by people who lied to us — but never makes the link to what Clark says in the Ned ad — that one of those people was the guy he just endorsed in Connecticut. And even after Nam, he claims he never foresaw that Iraq might object to an American occupation.
[banging head on keyboard; pulling straw out of head]
There is no need to give up on Ned. Even if the polls are right, Joe does not have an effective GOTV, so that will take care of some of the difference. Joe also seems to have a negative momentum since the debates, he did not look senatorial. Lots can change in 10 days, Joe’s negative momentum will snowball. I still believe in a senator Ned Lamont.
Maybe Joe’s petty cash is being used to pay for Bloomberg’s help.
Hardball interview with Dick Durbin — one of the better Dem interviews I’ve seen.
Durbin interview on Hardball
My favorite question: “Could Dick Cheney have passed a lie detector test. . . ?”
Per Charlie Cook- a good GOTV effort is worth two points.

Titanyum @ 81
NYCeve at DKos had a diary about how Bloomberg has been heavily involved in GOTV for Lieberman and that they won’t be hurting.
Ok, let’s face it, we’ve been in denial about this race. It’s sort of like having cancer. If we want to live, we have to take steps to get rid of it. Pretending that it doesn’t exist or that some miracle cure is going to magically appear at the last minute isn’t going to cut it. So, I’m going to CT tomorrow. Was going to go today but got sidelined by a cold. Tomorrow, I’m putting on my boogie shoes and hitting the streets. Everybody who wants Lamont to win and lives in the multi state area should do the same.
New thread
Sorry wrong link, but there is a new thread.
Just saw this posted over at the Lamont campaign website. Maybe we can help out??

Nah, I think the cheeseburgers will get him first!
Reviewing this thread there are clearly a few newbies here to “very reasonably” pooh, pooh the new ad in particular, and Ned Lamont in general.

The ad must be rather effective if the Liebertroll minions were sent here to tag team & comment.
Wonder how much “petty cash” is being paid to the concern troll patrol? (They are popping up everywhere)
I lost an election once and it was a difficult time for me. So I’m certain Joe is hurting bad right now. We should all send him a note of condolence with a nice sentence or two recognizing his 18 years of service. It’ll help ease his pain.
I’m new to this blog, and I need some clarification on what would cause someone to be labeled a “troll” or a “concern troll.” If anyone who does not support 100% of Ned’s positions, campaign activities, or statements is automatically a troll, that’s fine, it would just be useful to understand that protocol in advance of posting a comment. Hopefully this post won’t make me a “question troll.”
