The need for change has never been so great. Here is an historic opportunity to replace an incompetent, uncaring, and selfish Congressional representative with a man of itegrity, honor, vision, and superb intelligence.

UptownNYChick — don’t be intimidated by that crap.

The bigger story behind the fabled voter database is that the companies that generate the data are typically Republican. What we are not doing and should be doing is asking whether the data was a donation-in-kind to the party or campaigns that is not being reported. In some cases, expenses we see in FEC reporting do cover marketing firms, and they are the ones who are responsible for the data.

Keep in mind that apart from the political machine, there is a massive collection of information on consumer behavior out there. Your credit and debit card companies, for example, know exactly how you’ve spent your money. Your store discount cards also record your habits. And all of this information is available for a price, and is used on a commercial basis every day to promote products to you.

It’s simple marketing.

What we don’t do as progressives is make use of sound marketing principles and do this, too. Nor do we set up BLUE marketing companies that will self-fund the development of better progressive databases, i.e., create businesses that collect information about progressives so that progressive companies can do a better job of reaching them with progressive products, in turn generating a profit that will pay for the database for progressive candidates. Wouldn’t it be great if we could reach out to every progressive voter who is concerned about food safety, for example, and ask them to help on a legislative ballot initiative related to food safety?

The flip-side of this is that we can kill this abuse if we win the majority in both houses. We can make data privacy paramount and develop legislation that removes it from play — then no party can use purchasing history.

Don’t let them get to you; let’s start working on a position to take on this matter. Do we learn how to use marketing, or do we shut it down for use by political parties?

Miklazjewski [omigawd have I probably mangled that spelling…] Anyway, NBC Pentagon reporter on Imus this morning saying Baker’s Iraq Study Group is to give a graceful way to declare victory and get out of Iraq.

Baker bails out Junior again.

How many more must die and be maimed between now and Election Day to prop up Dubya’s ego…
And how many billions more of our national resources spent?

P.S. on a comment I made about Laura the Librarian a day or so back. Obviously this woman has compartmentalized that she’s out there defending her husband…while turning a blind eye, deaf ear, and cold unChristian heart to that question above. Because she’s in the bail out Junior business, too.
