Dear Christy,
Sound the alarm bells. I got a robo-call from Bill Clinton yesterday, and I just naturally assumed it would be to urge support for Ned Lamont, since I am a Democratic resident of Darien, CT. Imagine my chagrin when it was simply a call telling me to vote! Bill went on and on, and never even mentioned Ned Lamont. The former president said at the end he was calling on behalf of the AFL-CIO. I am astounded that Bill Clinton would pass up this opportunity so near the election to support Ned. Can somebody please clue him in to the fact that as the Democratic nominee, Ned needs and deserves his support?
Disppointed in Connecticut

Which is your favorite from this potpourri of ignorance and arrogance? Which best expresses the monumental and willful stupidity of the Bush-Cheney-Lieberman foreign policy?

I am torn by the sheer, outrageously anti-Constititutional warning about free speech in time of war undermining our President at the nation’s peril (L16) and the earlier grabbing for the credit of coming up with the whole idea of invading Iraq, along with his good friend, John McCain, and then guiding the guileless Shrub Junior into following their lead into the Quicksand of Blood and Oil (L24). I think I’m going to have to go with the pig-headed arrogance and stupidity of L24 –

“… John McCain and I gave up on containment and introduced the Iraqi Liberation Act, which, when it became law, made a change of regime in Baghdad official US policy. You might therefore say that, when it comes to Iraq, President Bush is just enforcing the McCain-Lieberman policy.” February 2003

Then there’s our President, Captain Codpiece, landing by jet on the Battleship “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” and announcing smugly less than two months after he’s lauched his adolescent deathwad on Iraq (May 1, 2003) that —

“Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country.”

And, by then, Our Leader has his head so far up into the mushroom clouds in Condi’s smoking ass that he can’t pull it out. So, some 665,000 human beings die, Americans and Iraqis alike.

Many more could be chosen, but I’m going with L24 and B12.

L8: “…It is no surprise to my colleagues that I strongly supported the war in Iraq. I was privileged to be the Democratic cosponsor…”

B5: “We know that dictators are quick to choose aggression, while free nations strive to resolve differences in peace.”

Yup, and it was no surprise to me that Joe felt ‘privileged’ to join the ranks of the dictators

L18: it shows just how enamored Lieberman is of the publicity stunts of the incumbent.

B6: It shows the inability of the incumbent to complete a thought, even with his talking points.

MarkH @ 148

I’m still amazed by the quote (don’t have it on hand) where he says something like, ‘America would be a much easier place, but only if I (Bush) were the dictator.’

He was quoted in two different news magazines for having said it on two separate occasions. I think it was very revealing.

GOV. GEORGE W. BUSH (R-TX), PRESIDENT-ELECT: I told all four that there were going to be some times where we don’t agree with each other. But that’s OK. If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator.
