I agree with you, Trex. You and Markos/Bowers are saying what I thought for a long time. It is so selfish of Kerry to hold on to his 14 million that he may or may not need 2 years from now, while the chairman of the party he belong to is talking about getting a loan to come up with extra cash for this election.

P.S. I am a lurker, and I just want to tell you how much I appreciate your (and Jane, Christy, and everyone) writings. I am a grad school student and struggling financially, also. I wish you a good luck with your book (I hope you are working on one.) and have a wonderful time in Connecticut. I am looking forward to reading about it.

I’m wondering if Jane’s recent blog “Stand Up Stuff From a Stand Up Guy” about John Kerry had anything to do with your post here: “Late Nite FDL: On Getting it Wrong”.

Are you saying Kerry is a “stand up guy” just because he’s a major Democratic player willing to go to bat for your guy Ned Lamont?

Isn’t John Kerry the same John Kerry who was swiftboated in 2004 and lost that battle?

Isn’t this the same John Kerry who lost the 2004 Presidential election by fraud and conceeded quicker than you can say howdy?

Ned ought to feel real proud with a man like that backing him. Not!

You stated: I’m not going into battle with you again. When it got ugly, you took your rich white ass back to Boston even as reports were pouring in on election day 2004 that something was really wrong in Ohio. You conceded before the damn polls were even closed!

TRex, I totally agree with you John Kerry is only for John Kerry. Screw him!

Since this thread is probably dead I’m not going to take time to read all the comments. I just feel compelled to say that I find the remarks about Kerry and the Markos/Bowers thuggish threats offensive. We’ve seen enough infantilization of politics. We don’t need some of our best progressive blog voices to take the lead.

Just a note, if anyone’s still here:

Even if you fall back on John Dickerson’s brain-hemorrhaged logic of “We were right to be wrong”, which is a considerable stretch, in the final analysis, YOU WERE ALL DEAD FUCKING WRONG.

I’ve had and will no doubt continue to have my problems with Dickerson’s work, but when I went back and read the post of mine that TRex linked, it was Jacob Weisberg to whom I was referring and who has on several occasions advanced the notion that people who were right about the war were only right because we’re irrationally and reflexively opposed to anything Bush does. Dickerson hasn’t done so as far as I know, and I think it’s important to slam the right person for the right sin.

That’s all … thanks again for the link, and to everyone who stopped by my place to check out the “ask the White House” deal.

You’re absolutely correct that deficit spending on defense and manipulated oil pricing have contributed to the GDP totals reported. No disputing that. And, sure, when the government is reporting war/security/reconstruction spending in Iraq as an export, it distorts the current account balance in the administration’s favor. If they didn’t, those record deficits would be truly astronomical.

The conventional wisdom says you can’t manipulate an economy as large as that of the U.S. But, I think that the Bushies have been able to do so in some not so obvious ways. Once they’re gone, I have the feeling that some really ugly economic news is going to begin to surface–maybe even before they leave….

Definitely, the 68% of spending allocated to defense is absurd; we are absolutely no safer for this irrational percentage of spending.

I doubt the degree of independence, not that I don’t trust your word, but the pressure on virtually every other governmental agency and department to produce numbers to order has been enormous. I can think of only one person I really trust so far in this administration and it’s the OMB’s David Walker. Surprised he hasn’t yet been escorted forcibly off the OMB’s premises for his earth-shattering commentary (thanks RenaRF!).
