op99 at 41 — how are things going with the Massa canvassing? Still good momentum going into the next 15 days, do you think? You guys still getting a good reception for the most part — and quite a bit of enthusiasm?

Christy, it’s very hard for me to judge off my little sample, which right now is possibly a state secret, but it’s NOT Dems who vote. Most people do not reveal their leanings. (Neither do they pull a gun on me, so I guess that’s good.) Latest independent poll shows Eric leading 52 to 40, and the mood at campaign HQ is ebullient. Nobody is taking anything for granted, though. We are working harder than ever.

There is a fundraiser for him here tonight with Nancy Pelosi. I am sitting with grandmother today (pneumonia) or I would go. It’s reasonable – $100 minimum donation.

Too bad you’ll miss him – he gives a rousing speech – he’s quite a leader. Out of the limelight, he surprised me with what an egghead he is. Quite a history buff – he has done a “stump the expert” schtick on local radio call-in shows.

I heard him speak back in May. I just stumbled onto him, actually. I was speaking at Fordham U and he was speaking in the same building. I caught most of his talk and was vry impressed. Got to meet him after and have been sending small donations when I can.

Lamont campaign to file formal FEC complaint regarding Lieberman’s alleged ’slush fund’

The Ned Lamont campaign is planning to file a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission over Connectictut Senator Joe Lieberman’s alleged “slush fund,” according to a press release obtained by RAW STORY.

“After President Richard Nixon abused campaign finance law through his Committee to Reelect the President (CREEP), laws were passed to force candidates to disclose how they spend campaign funds,” the press release states. “But over the weekend, it became clear Senator Joe Lieberman may be ignoring those laws, as the Senator’s FEC reports uncovered $387,000 “petty cash” slush fund that could be called the Committee to Reelect Lieberman (CREEL).”

“During the 14 days around the August 8th primary, Lieberman’s campaign spent over $387,000 on un-itemized, un-identified, and un-disclosed disbursements,” the press release continues. “By contrast, Ned Lamont’s campaign spent just $500 on petty cash in the entire reporting period.”

The Lamont campaign asks the following questions: “What was this spent on? Who was it spent on? And why weren’t the expenses itemized, as the FEC requires?”

“Today, the Lamont campaign will be filing a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission, demanding an investigation into possible wrongdoing,” the press release announces.
