Why vote for Joe?

If you’re a Republican, the answer’s a no-brainer.

But if you’re a Connecticut Democrat who currently intends to vote for Joe, please consider the consequences of doing so.

A vote for Lieberman is a vote to place the party’s agenda into the hands of a blackmailer.

Under the BEST case scenario the Democrats will gain majority control of the Senate with 51 vs 49 seats.

That 51st seat will be held by Lamont or Lieberman.

If Lieberman is the victor we can forget about:

Health care reform.
Checking the expansion of excutive power.
Blocking the confirmation of right wing judges.
Changing course in our foreign policy.
Conducting meaningful oversight hearings.

Every action or legislation contemplated by the party will be held hostage to the personal ideology of Joe Lieberman. Why? Because if Joe don’t like it, he simply walks across the aisle. Bye bye committee chairs. Bye bye majority control. Bye bye progressive legislation. Joe doesn’t even have to articulate the threat. The Democratic party will KNOW what’s at stake, and they won’t risk a return to minority status. This is why the Republican party is so supportive of Lieberman.

Recent polling shows that 35% of the Democrats in Connecticut currently intend to vote for Lieberman. Undoubtedly these voters think the election is about one Democrat versus another. In reality, it’s about a Democrat versus an Opportunist. Ask yourself, do you want to give Joe the opportunity to ensure that nothing changes for the next two years?

The senate race in Connecticut is the single most important contest on November 7. Please vote responsibly.

Ned won.

Code Pink just lost a third of their sympathizers.

please, a request…. are you sure it was a code pink action (and not a provocature)? and if not, would it be ok to condemn the action w/o blaming code pink?

You’re right, I apologize. I have no knowledge of who it is, just piling on based on rumors. I’m sorry.

I was surprised by that, but it must be the judgment of Swan that it was better handled another way. I trust him. Good czar above the fray?

T. Atkinson at 372 — aw, thanks much. I appreciate it. I still haven’t gotten up the nerve to watch our TIVO of it. *g* But I got a lot of complimentary e-mails from self-identified Republicans, so I’m hoping that means something good for our side for the upcoming election. And we do talk a LOT about other races — take a peek at our Blue America topic link on the right hand column and see how many candidates we’ve been able to cover. Between that and adwatch, we’ve hit just about every major race at one point or another. :)

Thanks for clearing that up. I was about to jump to a conclusion :). Whoever they were, they weren’t doing themselves or us any favors.

dab- and if you can’t breathe, at least try to inhale and exhale in alternation.. ;)

707!

If you feel like there is too much pressure on you, there are really only three things that are truly necessary:

1. Breathe in
2. Breathe out
3. Care for your babies (or elderly)

That’s it! EVERYTHING else can wait.

Christy, thanks for the response. I’ve read FDL, and your comments, for a while, and I appreciate your taking the time to respond. Nice appearance on C-Span the other day, as well. I heard it on the radio here in D.C.

T. Atkinson @ 366

I want to ask a question as someone who doesn’t post here (or on any political site, really), but I don’t want to get jumped on as a “concern troll”.

I’m a registered Democrat in Maryland, so I don’t have any constituent stake in the Connecticut race (although I recognize the stakes at a larger level). I read new media far more than newspapers, and I don’t watch cable TV anymore (it’s insipid), so I consider myself well informed on the issues, the races, etc.

The question I have is why is everyone so exorcized about this particular race? The races between Allen and Web and Ford and Corker and Talent and McCaskill–all of those are much closer, and just as critical to the balance of the Senate. And yet I come to FDL every day, and I would bet one-third of the stories are Lieberman related. And in reading them I can see that Joe Lieberman causes absolute teeth-grinding anger in people–and people not from Connecticut–like no other race.

Although I don’t think it makes a lot of sense, I’m not criticizing that view, that passion. I’m just curip]ous what it is about this race that drives people the most.

Someone lay it out for a smart guy from MD. Help me understand.

Speaking for myself only. There are many reasons I don’t like Lieberman. Chief among these is the fact that Mr. Lieberman lost the Democratic primary. Lieberman should not be in this race and should be supporting Ned Lamont, the winner of the primary. And of course there is the matter of Lieberman’s continued support for the Iraq war.

T Atkinson, we need Ned for so many reasons, but a big one for me is that Lieberman, when the Ds take the senate, he would be chair of the committee that would head governmental affair investigations. Can you see Bush’s BFF Joe really digging into the muck, or do you think he will just blow smoke up our skirts? I’m betting on smoke, Joe has to go.
