(dab adds in the comments: live feed to the debate now)
At first glance they were the odd couple. Ned, the successful businessman and pragmatic progressive who had united grassroots constituents behind him with the help of innovative technology and online media. Alan, the blue collar guy who didn't like illegal immigrants much but sure enjoyed blackjack and the broads. What did they have in common?
Well for one thing, they had both won their parties' nominations for the Connecticut Senate race fair and square. And their respecive Senatorial Campaign Committees were much more interested in seeing the Lieberman4Lieberman candidate elected then they were in following their own organizational mandates and supporting the party candidate. But what finally united them was a desire to call Joe Lieberman on his ever-shifting political positions as he tried to run first as a Democrat, and then as a Republican. They came together to tell him to get out of their damn yards.
Tonight the debate is being broadcast on Channel 3 in Connecticut. Ned's campaign manager, Tom Swan, sent this letter today:
Four days. Two debates. One brand new race.
As Ned's message of change at home and abroad continues to resonate with the people of Connecticut, Joe Lieberman finds himself locked in a partisan Republican primary with Alan Schlesinger.
This after already losing the Democratic primary in August.
The candidates met yesterday for the second time in three days, but the debate won't air on television until tonight.
Click the link to view the video clips and pictures of Ned's victory before anyone else.
http://www.nedlamont.com/debate2preview
After we beat Joe Lieberman the first time, Dick Cheney and an army of well-connected Republican D.C. lobbyists decided to roll over for George Bush's favorite "independent."
After all, the president has no greater ally than Joe Lieberman in the effort to privatize social security and continue the war in Iraq.
Unfortunately for them, someone forgot to tell their party's nominee, Alan Schlesinger.
Get the behind-the-scenes look at Ned's best performance to date, before it hits television tonight at 7pm on WFSB-3 and on C-SPAN in the coming days.
It's less than three weeks until election day.
While Alan and Joe duke it out for the Republican vote, Ned's mainstream plan for change in Iraq, universal health care and energy independence is gaining momentum surpassing the frenzy that accompanied the primary campaign.
Can you pledge to volunteer some time down the stretch? We need you now.

NED! JANE! and Alan…ALAN?..ALLLAAANNN!
Whaaa! I wanna see the debate! But I’m not in CT and I can’t find that the brodacast is on Live Feed like the first one. Anyone know when it will be on CSPAN?
http://www.wfsb.com/index.html
Live feed to the debate
Fitz! Rootz!
Christy’s birthday and smash success on c-span!
I watching the debate from CA. The internets sure are cool!
My hero!!! Thanks Dab from CT!!
How have I ended up rooting for a Republican candidate for anything?!
Oh, well, go Alan!
AnnieOh @ 2
8pm EST c-span one, at least in DC.
Alan is a hoot. I am all for the Ned & Alan show. They should take it on the road and have debates once a week for the next three weeks.
Yeah! TRex in da house!
TRex @ 7
Life is full of strange contradictions. Necessary to keep a sense of humor. Feminist home raising 3 childen–brain exploding–yet it was the best decision I ever made.
I love that Lieberman says he doesn’t want to leave Iraq but he wants permanent military bases. So we can what, refurbish them as nice hotels?
Alan got a good one off — he says I know what I”m running for — Lieberman doesn’t seem to know that the role of a Senator is advise and consent, he thinks he’s part of the executive branch.
So true.
Anyone know what the state of play is in terms of the ground game of each of the candidates?
Loserman seems to blanketing with TV ads and getting the faux media fawning.
Alan has had some credible debate performances. Does he any cash to compete and get his message out? And are there signs that the Repubs will come back to their party’s nominee?
Is Ned gaining momentum after the post-primary lull? Does the GOTV effort have the same energy as during the primary? Is Ned competitve on the air? How are local TV media getting out the Ned candidacy?
EPU’d – Jozo whining that Ned’s making a media buy and airing ads, but Ned says there’s no whining in politics:
http://www.boston.com/news/loc…..nate_seat/
—–
…”"If he thinks complaining about the fact that we’re talking about his record is negative, I’d say he’s wrong — you’ve got to stand up for your record,” Lamont said.”…
——-
listening to Lieberman, I wonder. Who is coming out with the first “Droopy Dawg” t-shirt?
WHINE? Oh, a tad…
I’m watching it right now. I really like the fast pace they came up with! I hope next Monday’s debate is just as much fun.
And (of course) I have to mention that my new video of the CT House Speaker (and my representative here in Milford) is now online. It’s a fun little outburst starring CT Keith (and I think you can glimpse Branford Boy lurking behind him), but I’m worried that I may have to leave town for a while.
Does anyone know the best way to go on the lam?
Blank Kludge @ 15
“I’ve invested in it because I think we have a strong message,” he said.
Um, I think your wife invested in it. :)
Al Initio @ 14
You asked: Is Ned gaining momentum after the post-primary lull? Does the GOTV effort have the same energy as during the primary? Is Ned competitve on the air? How are local TV media getting out the Ned candidacy?
————-
Yes, yes, yes and yes.
Things had begun to shift a week or so before the debates. This week all bets are off.
Schlesinger is bound to get at least 10% – some folks vote straight Republican and the popular governor is Republican.
Any Republican support going to Alan is support not going to Lieberliar.
The Lamont campaign has lots of ads on the air and are making large ad buys for the last few weeks. A huge grassroots effort has been ongoing. The mood here is the same as the primary.
“Sent America Free Act.” How many of your Republican friends did you get to join you on that, Joe?
It was all for show.
Jack Cafferty has a new show on CNN which is basically- “get rid of everyone in the fuckin govt.- they’re crooks, liars, and incompetents. Dobbs has been giving a toned down version of the same message for years.
This may be where the “talk show” momentum is going- anti government- a curse on everybody’s house!
I’m starting to think very seriously about being in CT for the elections.
Hmmmmmmmm.
We might have to do another bleg-a-thon.
The Republican Party will begin airing a hard-hitting ad this weekend that warns of more cataclysmic terror attacks against the U.S. homeland.
The ad portrays Osama bin Laden and quotes his threats against America dating to February 1998. “These are the stakes,” the ad concludes. “Vote November 7.”
Brian Jones, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said the ad would run on national cable beginning Sunday, but he declined to discuss specifics of the buy.
The commercial tracks with Republican Party strategy to make the war on terrorism a central theme of this election. It will air as recent polls show Republicans losing ground as the party best able to combat terrorism.
Last month, President Bush made the war against terrorism a recurrent topic in public appearances. But his message was drowned out by the e- mail sex scandal involving former Republican Rep. Mark Foley of Florida and by increasing fatalities in Iraq.
TRex @ 22
I would be happy to contribute. I would love to meet you.
TRex – Go.
hey Trex, have you recovered from last night?
Ned got a good one off — “I hear a lot about experience on this campaign but I don’t see a lot of results.”
OT
I finally saw the recent Frontline documentary “The Lost Year in Iraq”. It was brilliant depicting the year following the fall of Saddam to the departure of Paul Bremer and the end of the CPA. I thought it was especially effective showing how a multiplicity of power centers: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell, Garner, Bremer, the uniformed military, and eventually the Iraqis interacted intermittently and usually at crossed-purposes with each other. The result was often no plan or plans made on the fly with no grown ups in the room. Some had zero relation with reality. Others simply ignored it.
Essentially, that first year Bush was AWOL (surprise) and with no one else in charge, his subordinates fought for control among themselves and virtually no one thought about Iraq, how to fix it or more importantly how to get out of it. Most of this has been said before but it is an amazing story and Frontline does a first rate job telling it.
Waaaaaah…my computer connection keeps timing out on the damn livestream. Guess I’ll have to wait for the 8 pm showing on C-Span. Phoooey. (Yeah, I know, what do political nerds do on their birthday? Watch debates. *g*)
This format, and maybe the dynamics of the campaign, make Jozo’s incumbency irrelevant. (I surmised post-primary that Joe wouldn’t be able to run away from his record or himself. This is truer every day.) He really is just another face. Ned is pumped and dynamic. He really DOES have a strong message.
oh…and Jozo does go over his alloted time, just about every time. Good on Bob S. from CBS to cut him off.
“Senator, your time is UP!”
—
Oh. Ned – “I hear lots about seniority, but not aboout results.” Then tears into security. And by immplication, Jozo.
Then Alan gets in a dig on Ned?
Jozo defends seniority…and then, ‘Senator, your time’s up.” (agai…) LOVE IT.
TRex @ 22
Oh, please do! We need some giant reptiles on OUR side up here during the final push.
And everyone better hurry; rooms are getting booked up fast at the Sheraton Four Points in Meriden.
Hugh @ 28
Great piece. Seems to combine Hubris, Assassin Gate, Fiasco, State of Denial and a few others I can’t remember.
The Bush administration couldn’t find their own a55holes with both hands and a roadmap.
Connecticut Bob @ 31
saturday before last, when revdeb told ned that she had already booked a room for the days leading up to the election… ned’s response was something like: oh yeah, i better do that too!
Then Alan gets in a dig on Ned?
————
Well, he IS a Republican. Actually, a wingnut – but he clearly likes Ned & I think the feeling is mutual.
I also think the fact that Lieberman clearly detests Lamont doesn’t help Joey come across as an elder stateman. Rather, a petulant, out of touch, entitled SOB.
And everyone better hurry; rooms are getting booked up fast at the Sheraton Four Points in Meriden.
Uh oh. Double hmmmmmmmmm.
I had SUCH a good time in August.
Think, TRex, think!
Maybe I will post about it tonight.
hey Trex, have you recovered from last night?
That’s a good question. I’m still pretty annoyed at having what could have been a great thread hijacked by internal concern trolls. It’s had me thinking that I may want to take some threads off in the future here, spend less time obsessively tracking the conversation if I’m going to get that wound up. I was ready to tear out some throats last night. I’m 60 million years old. It’s not good for my blood pressure.
Is Joe saying he was against the ports deal?
And I’m sure Joe had plenty of statements in favor of privatization before he switched his position to run with Gore.
OT, CHRISTY, happy birthday, I just finished watching your appearance on cspan. Wow, what a good job.
dab from CT @ 34
i disagree with most of alan’s positions… but, he gives the impression of saying what he really believes…. i like that much better than joe’s bs.
MIAMI (AFP) – The top US general defended the leadership of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, saying it is inspired by God.
“He leads in a way that the good Lord tells him is best for our country,” said Marine General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Unfuckin believable- Clusterfuck puts a religious nut case in charge of the military- and this bozo says that God is guiding Rummy’s hand in causing him to lose the fuckin war in Iraq.
So, General, why does God hate the USA?
windje @ 32
it was well done and exceedlingly gut-wrenching. Michael Kirk– the writer, producer and director of it was online at wapo yesterday and the chat is VERY interesting.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..00400.html
JPL at 37 — awww, thanks. I had to sit at a really weird angle because of a problem with the earpiece, so I hope it didn’t look too wonky. I’ve been too nervous to watch my tape just yet. I’m glad you enjoyed it, though. :)
TRex @ 35
sorry to bring up a sore subject. your banter in the comments is integral to the appeal of Late Nite, but we wouldn’t want you to burn out.
Jane Hamsher @ 4:43 pm (#36)
I’m sure you’re right about that, because I’m pretty sure that someone compiled a list of them. Wasn’t that someone who writes for this blog?
Has the Knibbs guy said “Lieberman” every single time he addressed something about Joe? I bet that seriously pissed off Joe-nertia.
TRex @ 35
trex! please come to CT again! it was so much fun getting to meet you… and your lucky tie REALLY needs to be there. how will you feel if ned loses, all for the lack of your lucky tie? maybe we could fit in another little fund raiser for such a good cause?
wrt to last night’s thread… i missed that, but now you’ve piqued my curiousity – i’ll have to go take a look.
TRex @ 35
TRex, please don’t stop. For some of us this issue is FUCKING personal.
When you protect the closet, you spit in the face of all of us with the courage to be authentic. The closet is homophobia institutionalized.
I want this to be a better world for MY children, and I will not compromise. Neither should you.
punaise @ 42
T-Rex I’m an early riser and the first thing I read in the morning are your comments. Please don’t burn out. It’s funny I live in the 30075 zip and at times wake up while you’re still posting. Keep up the good work.
I know everybody’s watching the debate, but Cafferty just had an hour on CNN. Man did he rip the Pres, VP, Rummy, and Congress.
He started with “Had Enough” – not the video (unfortunately) but the term, and the sentiment.
Lotta pissed off people in America right now.
Had Enough?
Joe would like us to think of him as “serious.” I’m getting more of a “droopy” feeling from him, though.
wrt to last night’s thread… i missed that, but now you’ve piqued my curiousity – i’ll have to go take a look.
Oh, god, please don’t.
Happy Birthday to Christy and Siun. My aren’t we Librans a thoughtful bunch.
TRex, I thought it was a great piece and was so distraught when it was hijacked. It felt like a bar room brawl where the bully is holding a broken bottle and jabbing it in everyone’s face.
I thought you were extremely patient.
Gosh, Joe wants to do it all, but he never does.
Urban Pirate at 48 — I talked to a number of pissed off people on C-Span this morning — curiously, more of them on the Republican line than the Dem one this morning. And they were pissed at the GOP. It was a little surreal for me — last time I had a lot of screamers, but this morning, most of them were agreeing with me.
Wow, Busy busy day.
Happy Birthday Christy!
Surrounded on all sides… ‘Nothing to do but cut and run, huh?’ …
;>)
Alan Schlesinger is cracking me up…
darkblack @ 56
hah! the (Charles Bronson?) hair…
Lamont sounds great!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 54
You were great Redd! All the call- in segments had the same feel today.
R’s saying they were voting straight D.
oh darkblack 56 — genius.
R’s saying they were voting straight D.
Hell.
Yeah.
That’s what I like to hear.
Lamont’s closing statement was great. I was glad that he brought up Joe’s support in the Terri Shiavo mess but I’m especially glad that they are repeating this debate on Sunday.
*xyz @ 59
he sound like a senator! i hope lots of nutmeggers are seeing this.
BTW I posted it in the last thread but today is the first day since early August that the average price for gasoline nationally rose, if only slightly, instead of falling. This likely indicates that the bottom for gasoline prices may not be far off.
Ct governors debate now on c span 1
Then Missouri
Texas
Ohio
but when is NED?
Did I just miss the whole thing?
………………………….
TRex @

Thanks for all that you give to the fdl community, Trex.
Hugh at 65 — didn’t OPEC announce that they were going to meet to discuss cutting production even more this week or next? (And how lovely is it that they are thinking of doing that right before winter, when poor folks have to fill up their heating oil tanks…SIGH)
selise @ 64
Agreed. Depending on how many do/will (on Sunday…or stream it on the web…and how it gets played in trad/med) I’d say this race is now tied…or maybe leaning Lamont. Good performance. The last debate could seal the deal.
I missed the debate…I think I’m gonna cry…is there any video or audio? :(
punaise @ 58
Jane Hamsher @ 61
You know, I try my best, but I just can’t make Joe look good…I don’t know why that is
;>)
TRex, my feeling has been that coming up with content for that many posts a week has become a bit stressful lately. Cutting back may not be such a bad idea. On the other hand it’s not late nite without you.
I liked Ned’s closing better in this debate than the last one. “Can’t we do better?” Mwee heeeee. No wonder Joe ran out of the building and wouldn’t talk with the press gaggle after the debates (the only candidate to hightail it out of the building, btw, according to Stoller — what a poor sport).

tonight 1am, c-span1
Blank Kludge @ 69:
I hate to sound like a (Canadian) Kos… but its all going to come down to voter enthusiasm and GOTV efforts on Lamont’s campaign.
Fern at 72 — it’s awfully tough coming up with something good day in and day out, especially when you have to follow my morning shift and Jane’s evening, and any guests — we’ve often slogged through a lot of the really meaty stuff by the time late nite comes around — I don’t know how TRex does it some days, frankly. He’s a peach of a man, though. :)
MyDD.com has a link to the debate.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 78
a georgia peach!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 78
That’s kinda what I figured.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 78
that’s why he gets the big bucks.
egregious @ 70
According to the Lamont campaign, C-Span hasn’t announced yet when they’ll show it. I was surprised when you said it was showing in the DC area at 8:00
Scott at 77 — what’s I’m hearing from on-the-ground sources is that there is that same feel of enthusiasm right now in the Ned volunteers that everyone was seeing in the primary. And that there are LOADS of Ned signs popping up everywhere again — along with great ads on teevee and radio. If that holds between now and election day, I say Joe’s going to be more whiny.
And a reminder to everyone: in my state, early voting has begun. If your state allows for early voting, it’s a good idea to go and do that — that way, if there is a problem with your voter registration for some reason, you can get it straightened out BEFORE election day, so you won’t have to vote via provisional ballot. (One of the many, many reasons it pays to be a Type-A kinda gal and plan ahead…)
Christy Hardin Smith @ 68
OPEC I believe announced a million bbl/day cutback but they need to meet to decide whose quota gets cut and by how much. Several OPEC members cheat already on their quotas. I doubt that this would change. Mostly all of that is kabuki and the only way you can tell if it is real is if inventories and markets tighten.
dab from CT @ 83
it’s listed on the c-span schedule now for 1:05am tonight
Bustednuckles @ 75
Well, you can …But it’s a shitty job that rubs off on you.

selise @ 80
That was cobbled together well.
;>)
punaise at 82 — oh yeah, we all do…
O.o
Mwahahahaha…okay, seriously, I’d do this for free. Just don’t tell Jane…
Christy Hardin Smith @ 78
TRex is seriously fantastic. He covers the full spectrum from snark to pathos. NPR would be lucky to have him! In the meantime, we are.
I’m not good at linking but go to wfsb.com and you can access the debate on their home page.
dab from CT @
9
That would be so sweet — Ned out-Democrating Joe, Alan out-Republicaning him, and the two of them out-bipartisaning him. If Joe won’t show, they can always use a cardboard like Roberto Rodriguez does. I suppose an inflatable Joe would be too rude?
“can’t polish a turd”
Were that true- then politics would be dead. Fortunately it can be done- freeze the sucker first.
rwcole @ 92
that explains a lot!
rwcole @ 23
Excuse me WHERE is Osama? And why have we just given Pakistan a pass to keep hiding him? Don’t get me started on AQ Khan, nuclear expert who is exporting to North Korea and elsewhere, protected by the Pakistan govt, we know exactly where he lives but he is “protected” somehow. Hmmm.
It feels like they are counting on no one paying attention, and the few people that do pay attention are powerless. Let’s change that, ok?
unsubtle new ad released today by the Republican National Committee features fleeting video of Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and other terrorist imagery.
Entitled “The Stakes,” the ad also highlights snippets of statements–one over eight years old–from the two al-Qaeda leaders, both still at large. Certain menacing phrases are repeated twice (e.g., “kill the Americans,” “suitcase bombs”) to reinforce the message.
A ticking sound reminiscent of a bomb timer grows progressively louder until the last repeated phrase (”What is yet to come will be even greater”) is shown, followed by the sound of a beating heart, fleeting images of explosions and terrorists in training, and ending with the message “These Are The Stakes. Vote Nov. 7.”
Christy Hardin Smith @ 54
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could reunite with our brethren who have been voting against their own interests for so long?
rwcole @ 95
And hundreds of billions of dollars later, why are they still at large, unless it serves the interests of the powers that be?
See you in the camps, folks. R.I.P. habeus corpus, 17 October 2006.
You know, unless the Supreme Court overturns this new odious law. Sometime in the future. MAYBE.
rwcole at 95 — it’s eerily similar to the “Daisy” at that LBJ was going to run…which says the cynical bastards are hoping to get free media hyping it before they run it, never have to actually sink the money into the ad…and then cackle about the sheeple in the media and elsewhere.
Um…where’s Osama?
HotFlash @ 91
Aside from everything else – the two debates have totally neutralized Joe’s “I’m the one who can work across the aisle and Lamont is a polarizing meany” Clearly Lamont (D) and Schlesinger (R) can work together – kicking Lieberman to the curb
a georgia peach!
That was cobbled together well.
just don’t go all upper crust on us
I assume the RNC ads are aimed at their base, probably outtakes from DisneyABC’s PATH TO 9/11.
The PRNK test made the WH look bad. They tried to blame it on Clinton and people just laughed. Two weeks ago, if you would have told me that, I wouldn’t have believed you.
rwcole @ 95
Well, the national Dems should put out an ad quoting the former Inspector General of the DHS who says BushCo has no interest in national security and the DHS is a joke used only as a device to hand out pork.
BushCo makes it too easy
punaise @ 100
no buckling or crumbling, either!
Jane Hamsher @ 13
…but pretty ironic coming from a Republican these days.
Well, I saw Christy and missed Ned. It’s still been a good day. Did you like the steno su joke?
HotFlash @ 91
Inflatable Joe, they all said! Well he’s just an Inflatable Joe!
today’s round of polls contains a few setbacks. As Kos says, “this … should temper some of the giddiness over numbers showing Democrats sweeping out most of the GOP dreck …”
thoughts?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 98
Did anyone ever put together a Where’s Waldo book for Osama? Imagine the possibilities, especially all those Bush and Cheney photo-ops and wait, who is that shadowy guy in the background?
punaise @ 100
I’ll pastry not to

that’s why he gets the big bucks.

I truly think it will come down to Lamont/Lieberman. Lie will find some horrid excuse to caucus w the Repubs. It will keep the Senate Republican.
WE MUST WIN IN CONNECTICUT. EVERYONE, PLEASE CONSIDER GOING UP THERE FOR GET OUT THE VOTE.
LOT of normal people getting it about Iraq being based on lies and being a distraction from the REAL war on terror [whatever yr opinions on that, and that is a different subject not relevant in the next 3 wks].
We need to pound into the media that Bush took us away from the real threat into a phony war based on lies. They wasted American lives and a hell of a lot of money on a sideshow totally unrelated to the real threat. Oh, and DELIBERATELY outed the #1 CIA person responsible for evaluating Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. Why. Think about it.
Where is Osama? The most powerful country in the world can’t find one sick man during 5 years? Well no if they’re not really looking…/foil off
Boo? A bit too early for Halloween.
But I’m a shell of my former self these days
don’t shell yourself, sort.
Punaise– the famous dem “lead” has been overblown daily- I’m not sure why.
Dems are in pretty good shape- but they don’t lead in enough house races outside the margin of error yet to take the house and to win the senate they have to win three out of four tough races (New Jersey, Missouri, Tennessee, and Virginia).
This thing is far from a lead pipe cinch.
punaise @ 116
Well, that takes the cake!
Just when I was wondering what on earth to write about tonight, Sadly, No has put up the new Atlas Pam vlog!!
Whooo-hoooooooooooo!!

TRex, please don’t abandon us!!! This might be the time to trot out a few contests. As I recall a few days ago there was a thread that was virtually hijacked by the “I Blame Clinton” contest. Come up with a few more, sit back, munch on a young, tender brontosaurus and pick the winner. Just hang out with us, okay??
By the way, I was driving home to Danbury from Mass on I 84 today and saw the torture billboard. The backdrop is a cliff with orange/red autumnal leaves behind – the contrast between the beauty of nature and the man being tortured is stark.
Each and every person who drives east on 84 toward Hartford sees that billboard.
Top of the local TV news tonight, first story on 6 p.m. WTNH, tee up one whiny, whiny Joe. I was about to gag, but the reporting covered all bases and then seemed rather funny. One thing’s for sure, Schlesinger’s new found success at the debates is now guaranteeing him free face-time on any Senate election coverage now which is sure to help him out.
Watch or read the report here. You’ll really want to see how nutmeggers are getting this. The end of the report is the best.

rwcole – I responded to you about polls on the bottom of The Real Turncoat Joe thread.
National pollsters know that state polls are iffy at best. That’s why you can have two polls published the same day based on two different samples from the same state – one says candidate X is up 10 and the other says candidate X is down 10. The polling methodology they use for state races was designed to track national elections and national trends. Each state is idiosyncratic.
We need to look at polls for what they are – a snapshot of a race (maybe) at one particular point in time. These polls don’t take into consideration newly registered voters. They don’t take into account first time voters. The list goes on and on.
Still, the trend is very much in favor of the Dems – particularly the national trend polls.
I used to be a pollster with Peter Hart in the early 80’s and believe me, I know the shortcomings of polls. The only one’s that are half way accurate are the 24 hour polls that the campaigns do leading up to an election.

I’ve been reading about the particular problems concerning polling congressional races- seems to make state polling a piece of cake by comparison. At least with a state you don’t have divided area codes. Seems to be a real problem to sample a congressional district- unless it’s Wyoming.
Here’s the channel 3 link to the debate:
Ned’s closing is just perfect…looking right into the camera.
Let’s GO NED!!!
TRex @ 122
Oh. Dear….
I had never seen her before. Wow. What on EARTH is that dead, hairy thing that hangs over her right shoulder that doesn’t move when she shakes and tosses her hair??? Oh, dear, sweet Jesus…
TRex, if you have the strength please explain this to me. Are we SURE she’s not a Democratic {sorry, Democrat…} plant? She cannot possibly be real, can she?
CAN SHE????
Hugh, a propos de torte, you’ll probably appreciate this one.
short version, without the setup, talking about recipes:
La Tourte au Caille de Louis*
became
La Tarte aux Couilles de Louis
Louis, a colleague of Mme. punaise, did not appreciate the transliteration.
DAB–Read your note in previous thread about polls. I’ve been watching these things through enough elections to know their limits. Still- they’re about all we’ve got to measure process.
TRex @ 122
Could you throw in a link to the shrieking harpy, Trex?
It’s still not googling up correctly. (Unlike GOOG, which is up $32 at the moment.)
New post upstairs. Don’t rush, I have the Zero.
TRex @ 122
“Cognitit dishanitz”? WTF? Festinger should sue her.
rwcole @ 144
Just as difficult with a state. Has to do with sample size, determining the right distribution of Dems & Republicans, etc.
An average of polls can give general information – but being up or down x number of points is fairly irrelevant in a state race.
By all means, follow the polls – put I don’t think they are cause for jubilation or despair – unless it’s a 30 point rout.
Joe showing the new Repub ad.

OMG, Christy, you nailed it! I knew there was a cartoon character that Joe reminded me of. It’s Droopy Dog!
Why this picture looks just like Joe rooting for his party of one. :)
TRex @ 122
Cognita dissonance?
She has pronunciation issues similar to those of Bush. How very Staten Island.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 88
Wait. You guys get paid???!!!
Pamdemonium strikes again.
I had to cut out at ‘cognita dissonance’.
Jacqrat at 156 — think pennies…when I contemplate what I could be making at my former hourly rate, I cringe…but then I remember how much happier I am doing this. :) Plus, a lot of months, the ad revenue and other things barely make our monthly nut in terms of server costs and everything else cost wise…frankly, I don’t know how Jane keeps this place floating sometimes, and everyone’s donations that come in on occasion make all the difference for us to be able to pay for expenses.

“unless it’s a thirty point rout”
Well now you’re bein a bit excessive aren’t you.
Several consecutive polls from different sources showing double digit leads are significant. Politicians who don’t pay attention to something like that aren’t gonna win.

I read on the AFL-CIO site that in 1994 many of the seats won by the Repubs was with a margin of just around 1000 votes. Many of the races currently are really tight. The margin of victory will be small. So it will all depend on how many Dems turnout and vote. I still think its 50-50 as it takes so few votes to turn it either way. On the optimistic side there are many more credible Dem challengers of Repub incumbents. Probabilities therefore lead to some victories. Will it be enough to have a decisive seat advantage in the House? Unless there is a clear wave by Halloween its going to be very tough to win the Senate.
Alan would DAMM sure would have MY VOTE if the race turned on people think the should be rewarded for BREAKING THE LAW !!
I’m with TRex, that was just unpleasant last night. It takes all the fun out of this when people just obsess about something in a post, and lead a thread into the thickets.
TRex, and all our hosts, have earned plenty of points, and if they cross some personal line I might have from time to time, I just ignore it. If it happens too often, I’ll go somewhere else. If it really bothers you, well, why hi-jack a thread? Send an e-mail. But, let’s not drag the rest of us into meta blogging, like this post, which I never will do again.

OPEC may be “cutting” production because they have no other choice because their oil fields are entering depletion and they can’t keep their oil production up. The US did the same thing when it peaked in 1971: “voluntary” production cuts.
Of course, after that, when oil prices went through the roof, oil companies in Texas put in hundred of new oil wells spurred by the high prices, and were rewarded by a 30% *drop* in oil production. Once you hit peak, it’s over.
Unfortunately the latest post debate poll shows a big and expanded Lieberman lead in the wake of the debate.
Shut up, “Swannie.” As for you, Jane, “fun,” my ass. Ned’s getting killed and I want my money and caring back. I hope his little family enjoyed Maine after the primary, where instead of crushing Joe’s throat with his boot, he waited while ‘really important DC people talked to Joe about maybe please dropping out.’ Yeah, right. Maybe they should have talked to the sun about rising in the west from now on.
Say it loud, say it proud.
Senator Joe Lieberman (I). Will be REAL funny if his vote leaves the Senate effectively controlled by the Republicans.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Congratulations on the stunning manner in which this and other blogs have helped Ned soar from the depths of a 51% victory to the heights of nearly 36%. Anymore help from the likes of you, and he’ll rival Bush’s approval!
Of the three candidates running, Lieberman is the only who has a proven record of supporting a strong national security policy. The other two have nice sound bites, but that’s pretty much it. Even though I’m a conservative, I’d choose a moderate who’ll stand firm against radical Islam over even a republican who hasn’t proven much. I’d certainly choose Lieberman over a wishy-washy Democrat who fails to acknowledge that radical Islamists are enemies that we’ll be defending against for the next few decades.
