HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTINA !!!
thanks Jane
Happy Birthday!!!
Libras rock! (My bday was a week ago)
Christy - I’m watching you right now and you’re doing a great job. Can’t believe that idiot just said that he would rather cut off his hands than vote for a Democrat. Makes you proud to be an American.
(Love your hair)
Have a Happy Day Cristy and Cristina!
I’m in a Mineapolis airport and quite nearly willing to walk into a sports bar & change the channel to CSPAN and see if I live.
I have no doubt Christy is mopping the floor w/Farmer Ted.
There’s more than one airport there?

Hey, let’s do lunch. How long is your layover?
caller from ala repub afraid dems will take away his guns, but see in 5 years repubs havent acted on abortion. he is tired of being lied to and tired of being scammed on things like iraq. so he doesnt know who he is going to vote for but it wont just be pulling the repub lever.
sounds to me like he’s HAD ENOUGH.–eg
christy ends by saying people in congress work for us, we need to hold them accountable, not only by voting but calling, writing.
Happy birthday Christy and Christina, hope you both get a whole bunch of progressives elected to office for your belated birthday presents. Christy, you rock, got you TIVOed for later.
CHS does the job on CSPAN. Of course.
And so says all of us
jane hamsher @

She didn’t just mop the floor. She wrung him out. I’m glad I got to see it.
Everyday is your B’Day, Christina. Surely do appreciate how you toil for us!!!
lots of libras at the lake, natch
and yeah, Mirengoff reached into his ACME Talking Points kit a lot more this appearance
Or listen to it… C-Span radio works quite nicely!
Christy is a star!
She looked beautiful, she spoke brilliantly, she did us proud.
I hope the rest of her birthday is as wonderful as the beginning of it!

good news - Bagdad blogger Riverbend surfaces, is safe, and hasn’t lost a step
http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/
Christy rocks. She was magnificant on cspan today and came off so much better informed and intellegent over powerline. All he could do was parrot wingnut talking points.
And that one guy who came on toward the end who sounded like a typical limbaughbot and his “I’d rather loose both my arms…” shows how the right cannot think intellegently for themselves.
Congrats. And happy b-day.
You were really really good.
Happy Birthday Christy
Happy Birthday Christiana
Lots of Twisted Martini birthday love for both of you guys!
I predict a political future for Christy Hardin Smith commensurate with her abilities. How great will that be!
Summary of egregious blogging.
CHS on c span one NOW…well it was live.
chs dems will take house, and extra seats. senate tight, comes down to tenn, va, missoui. war is very important esp here in wva where i make calls for the local dem party. we have a high rate of service, people serving in the military, we are proud of that, we worry what is happening to our sons daughters fathers brothers sisters in iraq.
somebody help me out here. i havent had my coffee yet and neither has bunny.
chisty you look FABulous, the pin is very pretty and your hair is super.
question the congressman in wva being investigated for scandal. chs says dems are showing how to investigate, he is off the committee and he is cooperating. paul says people in both parties are justifying earmarks. chs says ney and others will get their pensions in prison because rep congress refused to pass legislation taking away pension for federal felony. now about war again. people, help me out here.
iraq as wackamole poor planning, osama still at large, not enough troops, most violence this month, british commander says his troops making things worse in iraq, james baker calls it a mess.
caller asking about media, suspending habeus corpus.
they each gave history of respective blogs. jane stated fdl after 2004 election, talked w chs at kos then later on chs joined fdl.
why tenn mo va, 3 closest races that will determine control. reps shifted money from oh and penn in the last couple of weeks.
all of those are going to come down to the wire.
paul is following new jersey, within the margin of error. chs says corruption is a republican problem in nj
caller “we put innocent people in iraq in jail that were on our side but now they hate us.”
chs we’re creating more terrorists. we are being attacked just not here. need to think of longterm implications of our iraq policy.
both of them like obama as a communicator, chs would like to hear more from him on the floor of the senate. chs trying to keep up with congressional races right now and not looking at ‘08. chs scolds paul for putting words in her mouth about iraq policy. now talking about corruption, she hears about it in her calls to voters in wva. checks and balances needed and also a public interested in holding their representatives accountable. why havent questions been asked about iraq and war profiteering, time for another truman commission, how is the war going and how is the money being spent.
relationship of polling to voting results. caller twilight zone, loss of habeus corpus.
chs history of habeus corpus going back to magna carta. dems did oppose this law, leahy, fine–from reagan administration conservative libertarian. need to know what you are charged with and why you are in jail. the only right in the constitution itself not the bill of rights. prisoners from bounty hunters, innocent people held for years for no reason.
caller from ala repub afraid dems will take away his guns, but see in 5 years repubs havent acted on abortion. he is tired of being lied to and tired of being scammed on things like iraq. so he doesnt know who he is going to vote for but it wont just be pulling the repub lever.
sounds to me like he’s HAD ENOUGH.–eg

Happy Birthday Christy & Christina!
Christy - great job on C-Span. Spent the morning watching C-Span, first the Big Dawg speech at Georgetown University & then your segment. I can’t think of a better way to start the day.
Plan to check out the Blue State website later in the day and make some sort of donation.
Peace

Good old Sally Quinn. She must be getting the inside scoop from the Washington establishment “ladies that lunch.”
So that’s the meme, Rummy’s a good guy who has played the role of sacrificial lamb for the administration and he’ll go gently into the night. Good lord.
Poor Rummy will retire to his palatial estate on the Eastern Shore of MD, bought by the megaprofits he’s reaped from his defense industry investments. (Isn’t he a member of the Carlyle Group?)
Happy Birthday to the ladies of the lake. Christy was great this morning. That Powerline blogger really really really likes his Gop friends. Why, those Gop guys can just come into Paul’s home, poop on his coffee table while reading his praise of them over at his blog. Paul just had to mention that “if the Dems take control, they will have INVESTIGATIONS!!!!!!!! Well, Paul, in my business world, that’s how we do it. That’s what keep a democracy going. I guess Bush and his friends will be really really happy at Bush’s new ranch overseas….
Usually we give gifts to people celebrating their birthdays, but Christy and Christina are the ones giving us the gift of progressive activism.
We need you and we’re lucky to have you. Thank you both, and also to everyone else who posts here at FDL.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :-)
Happy Birthday Christy & Christina! What a way to celebrate! I didn’t know Christy would be on CSpan today, imagine my suprise when I got out of the shower & saw that red head on my toob.
Christy, you were articulate, poised, and communicated your thoughts confidently. Couldn’t peel myself away, ended up a half hour late for work.

Heard Christy on c-span this morning .. great job!
thanks egregious - that’s damn near dead solid perfect
You were mahhvelous Christy!
Thank you so much for representing ME!
And a Big Hug for your eloquent, impassioned, and non-confusing explanation on how the loss Habeus Corpus affects the Average Jane and Joe!
Well done!

P.S. Nice work Christy.
Christy, I didn’t know you knew how to use PowerTools!
Happy birthday. We are lucky to have you in our midst! So is America, whether they believe it or not. Great patriotism, here.
Ack! Downsizing at NBC!
I hope K.O. isn’t affected. Link.
Yes, thanks egregious and RevDeb — great reading your comments on Christy’s cspan gig.
Oh and Happy Birthday to both women.
As I remember, when Jack and Jackie Kennedy took up residence in the White House they didn’t do Sally Quinn’s bidding and then the Clintons arrived (from Arkansas yet!)and “trashed SQ’s town” so she switched to Cheney and Company who I’m sure are more her type. Let’s know her by the company she keeps.
I’d sing the Mongol Birthday song for you both, but well, if it isn’t Patsy Cline tunes, you don’t want to hear me sing. So instead…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and thank you for the many gifts you’ve given us.
G’ Morning, all! Coffee for everyone!
Happy Birthday, Redd and Siun!
CNN reporting that the General in Iraq just announced that the Baghdad security isn’t working and changes will have to be made and that Foley’s abuser is in Itay…
Delurking to say–it’s my birthday, too, and what a very special present to know I share it with such amazing women!
Caught a little of Christy on CSPAN this morning–as always, intelligent, articulate, compassionate, and beautiful. Thank you.
Happy Birthday! Saw you on CSPAN: you definitely cleaned the Powerline creeps clock!

OK, I read about this new ranch somewhere also. Not here though. Like huge ranch in Paraquay?? Do you have details?
Happy Birthday, Christy and Christina! My own was last Sunday - looks like we have lots of Libras here.
Frustrated this am - thanks REvDeb for the summary of Christy’s C-Span performance — I’ve been trying to get C-Span live video online to work (no cable)but can only watch archives, not live. I should be able to see it later, but really wanted to watch in real time. Of course she kicked the wingnut’s butt - looking forward to watching it. Thanks for the habeas corpus lesson - maybe it will start to dawn on Americans what they have already lost.
Happy birthday to you both!
I’m a Libra as well. I had a birthday a couple of weeks back, but I didn’t feel much like celebrating. Maybe I’ll have a belated celebration after the election.
HAppy Birthday Ladies…AND….MANY MANY MORE!
Thanks for all that you to give to us!
Libra also-last week.

OldCoastie (51), Foley’s abuser in Italy? I would have bet the reports would be he’s dead.

That’s it, Redshift! After the election celebration, we’ll have a virtual belated October birthday party–virutal chocolate pumpkin cake (my new favorite), virtual hot cider…something else to look forward to after our anticipated Nov. 7th present.
Bush Buys Land in Northern Paraguay
Buenos Aires, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) An Argentine official regarded the intention of the George W. Bush family to settle on the Acuifero Guarani (Paraguay) as surprising, besides being a bad signal for the governments of the region.
Luis D Elia, undersecretary for the Social Habitat in the Argentine Federal Planning Ministry, issued a memo partially reproduced by digital INFOBAE.com, in which he spoke of the purchase by Bush of a 98,842-acre farm in northern Paraguay, between Brazil and Bolivia.
The news circulated Thursday in non-official sources in Asuncion, Paraguay.
D Elia considered this Bush step counterproductive for the regional power expressed by Presidents Nestor Kirchner, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Evo Morales, Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro.
He said that “it is a bad signal that the Bush family is doing business with natural resources linked to the future of MERCOSUR.”
The official pointed out that this situation could cause a hypothetical conflict of all the armies in the region, and called attention to the Bush family habit of associating business and politics.

What angjiesan said above @ 5:53 - you two get the birthdays, and we get the gifts!
Thanks, ladies!
Happy Birthday, Christy!
And Happy Birthday, Christina!
Congratulations to Christy on the C-SPAN appearance. That Powerline guy will be missing planes and trains for months trying to get used to the change.
Happy birthday, Christy and Christina, with best wishes!

ccmask (60), I hope Paraguay has an extradition policy.
and
Happy Birthday to all.
ccmask @ 60
Wh-a-a-at? Bush, who practically never left the country before he got this current gig - settling in Paraguy? I find this hard to believe - but then, a lot of their actions lately seem to be aimed at preventing criminal charges against them…
If true, he will find out how laughable his supposed fluent Spanish really is.
Well, I prefer to see him in custody and convicted, but out of hair and quiet in some remote Paraguayan ranch would almost do…
that Foley’s abuser is in Itay…
Priest tells of Foley relationship
Sally @ 70
Sally, that’s actually the point. Paraguay has been the country of refuge for Nazis, fleeing bank robbers and tax evaders forever because they DON’T extradite.
Happy Birthday, ladies.
While it would be tempting to make some political birthday wishes, please make sure that you save a few for yourselves!

Redshift @ 54
Sally Quinn is a *itch - and a Washington insider’s insider. I respected Ben Bradley until he married her. She has absolutely no moral compass - none whatsoever.
Don’t think many people are going to swallow the poor Rummy he’s a scapegoat thing, except maybe Rummy’s wife and their cocktail party friends (like Quinn). Rummy has all but destroyed America’s armed forces, many a promising military career and is responsible in large part for the fiasco in Iraq and all the lives lost, there.
It will take generations for this country to recover from this disaster. Rummy should be tarred and feathered and run out of town
tejanarusa (73), darn, foiled again. It seems GWB won’t get his comeuppance until the rapture. He’ll be in good company in Paraguay with any Nazi who still live, bank robbers, tax evaders and other low life he hearts. Let’s hope he takes his thugs (and Babs) with him.
I’ve got to write some proposals….see you guys later!
Great minds … We were tossing the Paraguay thing around at the end of LateNight. Paraguay is a signer of the International Court of Justice agreement.
Economic ramifications might include 1) access to the U.S. base at Mariscal Estigarribia (a commanding position on Paraguay’s highway system); 2) water, an interest shared with HW’ buddy SMMoon—the land is near or over the Guarani Aquifer; 3) gas in nearby Bolivia, which I think is in the foothills well east of the high Andes. The area is also Paraguay’s prime farming zone. Pretty good article at Wikipedia on the Aquifer:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guarani_aquifer
Btw, the Guarani are the same people depicted in the film The Mission.

Heh - as if I knew anything.
Seems like the Dems in Kansas are showing the moderate Republicans how to stand up when they’ve had enough. From page one of the WaPo:
If this can happen in Kansas, it can happen anywhere - but only if progressives make the case to their reachable Republican friends.

That’s exactly what I was going to say, on both points - great minds…. (it pays to read before posting).
so when does pumpkin head ask Ken: Ken, you are gay. It is not something you hide in Washington. How do you square that with serving a party that runs on an attack-gay-lifestyle program in many states, and opposes gay marriage?
Christina,
Need to give you your B’Day greetings all by yourself. ‘Twas a pleasure meeting you at YKos and then working with you in CT. You talent adds immeasurably to the FDL “enterprise.” You, like the other ladies of the lake are a class act! Have a great day and find some good chocolate to sweeten it up.

Jonah Goldberg can’t write himself out of a wet paper bag in this morning’s LA Times. What a thing to find on my breakfast table! If I were grading his essay in high school it’d be somewhere in the C category.
Huh? This makes sense and is worthy of publication in one of the major papers? And check out his conclusion,
No sense whatsoever. Why the hell isn’t he running down to the recruiter’s office? It’s right down at the strip mall by the doughnut shop.

BobbyG (92), Senator Goofball Cornyn sent me an e-mail about the torture bill which I haven’t risked higher blood pressure to read. I had told him he should resign from the Senate since he wasn’t going to uphold the Constitution, as he swore to do. What is it with these lawless Texans? Got to rid the Senate of Cornyn and Hutchinson. Got to.

Christy, You were great on C-Span! I was trying to call in to get you to address the following:
Bush and Rove are seemingly unaffected by the terrible poll numbers. Rove said he knows without a doubt that they will lose some seats but retain control of both houses. It’s obvious that they know something that we don’t and should know. They can only be so assured and safe in the knowledge that an election stolen is an election won. Also, on Kos 10/18 there was a great diary about the purging of Ohio voter rolls so late as to discourage voters who have to go through hell to reclaim their right to vote. Maybe a post about this with some solid ideas of how to thwart these a..holes would be helpful. Thank you all for your wonderful work on behalf of our country.

There is something so wrong in our country when this is happening. It is past time for a change. The people who “support the troops” with their little yellow magnets couldn’t care less about the troops or their families. This has got to stop!
cbl @ 99
Too, too infuriating. This while the rich get richer from their tax cuts, Rumsfeld says “stuff happens,” Congress gives themselves yet another raise…
How about Bob Herbert, NY Times columnist. He write about this type of thing frequently…recently he did a column on the unequal burden on the small part of the population bearing the burden of the war. (I think it was Herbert, NYT columns server down and can’t double check).
There’s just so much to be outraged over. I don’t weep easily, but reading of the young mother, husband in Iraq, wh
