Great minds … We were tossing the Paraguay thing around at the end of LateNight. Paraguay is a signer of the International Court of Justice agreement.
Economic ramifications might include 1) access to the U.S. base at Mariscal Estigarribia (a commanding position on Paraguay’s highway system); 2) water, an interest shared with HW’ buddy SMMoon—the land is near or over the Guarani Aquifer; 3) gas in nearby Bolivia, which I think is in the foothills well east of the high Andes. Bush and Rove are seemingly unaffected by the terrible poll numbers. Rove said he knows without a doubt that they will lose some seats but retain control of both houses. It’s obvious that they know something that we don’t and should know. They can only be so assured and safe in the knowledge that an election stolen is an election won. Also, on Kos 10/18 there was a great diary about the purging of Ohio voter rolls so late as to discourage voters who have to go through hell to reclaim their right to vote. Maybe a post about this with some solid ideas of how to thwart these a..holes would be helpful. Thank you all for your wonderful work on behalf of our country.

There is something so wrong in our country when this is happening. It is past time for a change. The people who “support the troops” with their little yellow magnets couldn’t care less about the troops or their families. This has got to stop!

How about Bob Herbert, NY Times columnist. He write about this type of thing frequently…recently he did a column on the unequal burden on the small part of the population bearing the burden of the war. (I think it was Herbert, NYT columns server down and can’t double check).
There’s just so much to be outraged over. I don’t weep easily, but reading of the young mother, husband in Iraq, who ran out of diapers and formula and wept for 10 min. on the phone with the food bank person nearly brought me to tears, too.

To finish his analogy of Iraq War equivalent to a knife in a victim’s chest, we’re supposed to finish the job?
Does he mean KILL the victim? Or simply twist the knife frequently for an unspecified period of time? That’s the problem; there is no clear mission in Iraq. There never was because the real underlying reasons for the war were never disclosed to the public or to the troops.
And “finishing the job” is somehow supposed to make the victim less dead, or less damaged in the eyes of the world??
What an utter fool. I sure hope the Repugs realize we are going to save their *sses if we win the majority by undoing S. 3930 and all other legislation that extends excessive powers to the executive office. It’d be too easy to begin to campaign to elect a Dem POTUS that would use S. 3930 against the likes of Goldberg.

Beautiful gifted women it’s my honor and privelege to call my friends. Happy Birthday. You know, I can remember the first moment I met each of them, and they each made me feel instantly at ease. Why is that? Because they are "real" people. They don’t traffic in artifice.
As shameful as it is, it is not anything new for the lower enlisted ranks to be without a living wage. There was news some time back about the terrible, terrible time many spouses of those killed in Iraq and Afshanistan were having in getting their rightful insurance and benefits–records had not been updated, etc. I know what it was like when I became unhooked from my career-military husband and my situation was nowhere close to what is happening today. That’s when I became a strident (nod to Froggermarch) Democrat.
Happy Birthday! You all have made a meaningful contribution to our country at a time when making meaningful contributions is a very difficult thing to do! Best wishes for continued success.

I watched CHS on the tube at the health club. I had no idea who she was until her name was posted. What a gorgeous redhead, was all I was thinking, having never seen her before. Had no earphone so couldn’t listen to what she had to say, but it appeared she had PLENTY to say and whoever it was put there to give “a fair and balanced” view just sat there looking dismal.
