Already, we’re hearing that their reaction to David Kuo’s book is to demonize and attack Kuo rather than face up to the truth that they’ve been done over by the Republicans.

I think they’ll do both. These are people pathologically averse to admitting they are wrong. They will expend their dying breath insisting the silver bullet in their lung is plated.

You are quite right, though, it’s amusing as all get out. We need to mete out unkind justice until the election, then (fingers crossed) pass the popcorn, and the shivs.

No doubt this will be lost in the thread, but in case you do read it… you need to pay closer attention to what your reading before responding. No doubt Wildmon is a wild man, but his quote is about a pro-gay “organization” within the Repub party. The idea that there is one is likely just another right-wing talking point (that has gone awry), but he qualified his comments with the recognition that it might be going on, not that it is.

“If you’ve got that going on, that subverts the will of the people; that subverts the voters. That is subversive activity. There should be no organization among staffers in Washington of that nature, and if they find out that they’re there and they’re a member, they oughtta be dismissed el pronto.

A pro-gay organization could have both heterosexuals and homosexuals. His point about this being subversive is also valid. If the democrats in the congress who support equal rights for homosexuals were to find an underground coalition of staffers working actively against that agenda, wouldn’t they be acting correctly in rooting them out and getting rid of them?

We have been under the most conservative admin in memory for 6 years, and I still don’t fear that I’m going to end up in an internment camp. I’m raising kids, damnit, out and open without fear. When you protect the closet, you spit in the face of all of us with the courage to be authentic. The closet is homophobia institutionalized.

It’s an especially bad time for these folks to be having their little “resolution of contradictions within the Party”, because their Leader has just gotten habeas corpus suspended, and can eliminate anyone he finds inconvenient. It’s true that the immediate effects of the Enabling Act that the Reichstag passed after the Reichstag Fire, was that a lot of Social Democrats were rounded up. But, several months later, Hitler found it necessary to have hundreds of his own supporters from opposite wings of his movement, the SA leaders and von Papen, summarily executed. More moderate folks at the time tended to take heart from the Night of the Long Knives, as if a policy of “let one reptile devour another” was a firm basis for sensible governance, yet those official murders were only the first of many.

I have always been struck at how gay male Republicans live up so much to a stereotype of repressed gays from the 1950s. They’re quoiffed in a certain way, carry themselves in a certain way. It’s very much a classic Mormon-esque gay uniform as much as the jeans and white t-shirt and baseball cap Christopher Street uniform of my local gay population. I realize some may be offended by the stereo-typing here, but I’m telling you, there’s something to this. It’s like somewhere in the nexus between repression/politics/subverted homosexuality is Buttoned Down Hyper Slick Playing-Straight Gay Man (Huffington, Mehlman, Foley, all of them). At first, kind of amusing. But then, just a little creepy.

Repugs have to come home and vote for more repugs so we can stack the court more.
