Okay the video above is not me but I will not make the claim that I have never done that.
Howie announced earlier that this is $5 day at the Lake. I don't know what kind of victories we will be able to take part in on November 7 but I do feel like change is in the air and I want as many people to feel like they participated in that process as possible.
Our Blue America page isn't cynically about only backing people who look like they can win regardless of where they stand, it's about supporting progressive values. Building party identity. Making a statement about getting behind the people who care about what we care about. And when Howie Klein started his Blue America column only a few short months ago, the horizon looked nothing like what it does today. The candidates whose names are in the headlines like Charlie Brown, Jay Fawcett, John Laesch and Victoria Wulsin are old friends of FDL and we can say we were with them long before the party establishment even started returning their calls.
We took the stand to be in it for the long haul with them, and when they sit on Hardball one day and Chris Matthews turns to them and says something snide about the dirty unwashed urchins of the nutroots they are probably not going to need to rely on David Broder or Bobo Brooks for their responses. Their first-hand experience will trump slavish DC wisdom.
So here's an invitation to de-lurk. We get tens of thousands of people each day on the blog who never leave a comment. So hit the Blue America link, give $5 to one of the candidates or to our Blue America PAC, and let us know who you are and why you chose who you did. Make one small act for change.
We promise not to make anybody sing.

Jane, Howie, Christy – woo hoo!
Well maybe I do want to sing…
1,306 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
FITZ WHERE ARE YOU??!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND POUR SOME WATER ON ‘EM…MAYBE THEY’LL MELT!!
Well, as a choir member I’d be willing to sing… if you insist! Sent some bucks to Lamont and Laesch at Act Blue, and because the service was good I left a lagniappe. I presume we’re all panting to hear KO’s Special Comment???
Proudly ponied up $50, because if something’s worth doing it’s worth doing 10 times. Actually more than that, but I’ll be spreading any extra around some.
Jane – you rock! Can we please retire Senator Droopy Dog in 20 days?
EPU’d, but jane’s post makes this even more pertinent. Jane says Our Blue America page isn’t cynically about only backing people who look like they can win regardless of where they stand, it’s about supporting progressive values So, here’s my EPU’d comment from Howie’s post:
Howie, Jane, Christy, pach, egregious, angie, valley girl, Jacqrat, and everyone,
Great Work. ActBlue has made a BIG difference in Diane Benson’s campaign! Howie’s coverage of the campaign at down with tyranny has made a difference. Can’t thank you enough.
So when does Diane Benson, the woman fighting Jack Abramoff’s last man standing – Don Young – get listed as an fdl/c&l/downwithtyranny candidate? Isn’t she good enough, or what?

Wow! Another serious attempt to bid oil prices down. I don’t have a good feel for what is causing at least the third major play to break the market lower. It is borderline irrational. Gas prices continue their slowed decline.
Hi, I’m Linda and I just gave another $5 to Ned, but I promise not to sing even if you DID pay me! You’d pay me to stop believe me I’d give more but I don’t have it. I gave to Ned (not for the first time) because I’m a veteran, I was born and raised in CT and I can’t stand Joe or the rest of the DINOs here….I have to decide what to do about Rep. Jim Amman too….Arrgh!! For a blue state some of our reps have a lot of Republican tendencies. I changed my mind I want to sing Na Na Na Hey hey hey, kiss him(joe) goodbye!!
And I’m going to stay on this. Jim Webb needs and deserves support. Lamont is everyone’s favorite because he’s against the war even if he did vote like a Repub when he was a selectman (or whatever it is). Allen is every bit the swine Lieberman is.Ed*ard Teller @

it looks like Matt Stoller is trying to post a youTube of today’s Lamon-Schlessinger debate right now…….
my pledge to the FDL readership / commentariat: I’ll forego one corny pun for every $5 contribution. Can I get a match from Eli?
You’ve got nice puns.
I just gave to:
Blue America
Tony Trupiano
Why???? With the GOP imploding, the 50 state strategy is even more crucial.
Money is gravity. The weight of our contributions will be the millstone around their necks!
punaise @ 11
OOhhh, nooooo….. find something else to forego… The puns are too good….
Go D’s — I’ll plunk five on that!

Welcome. Am sitting here with three of your close relatives.
oddball @ 13
Thanks oddball. Good to be part of the millstone, huh?
punaise @ 10
Oh no – your puns are such good medicine – especially the really corny ones – so take it back punaise and I’ll match anything you want through the weekend or when I run out of dough – whichever occurs first! ;~)
Oh no, Jane said slavish! Call Michael Steele and his shrinking violets!

Red Line Blues
Already ponied up a Benjamin today to Howard Dean as a donation match, but I’m a little distressed about the announcement that the Dems are borrowing cash for the final 3 weeks, so I’m putting another $50 on ActBlue too. I expect I’ll be giving right up to the end.
Come on, people! Give ’til it hurts, cause the pain now is nothing like the pain you’d feel with a Republican congress on November 8!

Thanks, Linda. Amman is a problem, but booting Joe could get them all on the run.
LindaR,
The corny puns are the BEST ones!
Jane,
Give them an extra biscuit and a hug on our behalf. They’ve earned it.
I gave to Jerry NcNerney, Tony Trupiano, John Laesch, David Roth, Victoria Wulsin, Coleen Rowley, Act Blue and the Blue America PAC (cause I want that ad campaign for Angie). Ed*ard Teller, I gave to Diane from her site. Jane, you are so right. These are not choices between the lesser of evils. We have good candidates running these races who represent true American values.
I bear the weight of a neo-con. Mike Rogers (MI-8).
My millstone gathers no moss as I roll through the GOTV effort.
I have good news. My predominantly Republican neighborhood is not so much anymore.
This is the calling. When I told my neighbors I was their neighbor, they listened.
So I support Jim Marcinkowski as I pound the pavement.
Pick a candidate, talk about American values.
Make way for a progressive landslide.
Have you had enough.
I HAVE!
I pledge a substantial portion of my Super Lotto earnings from tonight’s draw.

I gave for the first time today, thanks to Valley Girl and FDL. Go Blue!
The Bush economy has left me overdrawn and overextended, but I am a democracy bondholder ($20 every month to the DNC for the 50 state strategy) and I will be spreading it around come payday.

According to this link: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2006/roll491.xml you’ve got a name that is cynically only about backing people who look like they can win regardless of where they stand. If you can’t stand up to torture and removal of habeas corpus, you aren’t a progressive.

Yay!! I’m a bondholder too.
Note that jerk John Barrow from Georgia voted aye.
jello5929 @ 40
Oh, Raven,
It gets even worse. The local paper made note today, on the front page no less, that there’s basically not a spit of difference between him and Max Burns, the repellant, odious bastard we booted out when we elected Barrow. And who has decided he wants his seat back…

If by this you mean Sherrod Brown, do not fear. Howie stopped fundraising for Sherrod Brown immediately after he cast that ignominious vote. If you click on the name, nothing happens, and he’s not in the roster where you put in the $$ amounts. The amount you see in the list at the top is probably the total raised before Howie ended fundraising for him.
I contributed the following:
Charlie Brown – $10… because I live in California…
Jay Fawcett – $20… I met him at Mark Warner’s party at YK, he’s bright, committed, intense, honest, he’s funny as hell, an Animal House fan and represents precisely the type of person I would like to see in Congress…
Amy Klobuchar – $10… primarily because I was so impressed with her on MTP… and so creeped out by her opponent…
John Lasech – $10… because I want to see Denny the Hutt go down in flames… like the Hindenberg…
Ned Lamont – $10… because Joementum’s gotta Gomentum…
Eric Massa – $10 a Fighting Dem whom I had the pleasure of meeting when I sang at a Wes Clark event in Little Rock.
Patrick Murphy – $10… because I was impressed with his response to the attempted Swift Boating of him… too bad John Kerry didn’t have the balls to respond to his in similar fashion…
Jon Tester – $10… because Conrad Burns is no better, and possibly worse than Avery Burns…
Victoria Wuslin – $10 because Mean Jean Schmidt is full of schidt…
And I’ll sing anytime, anywhere, Jane…
KO on absolute fire!!
Ok. Thanks. Since I haven’t tried clicking Sherrod Brown since then, I didn’t realize the link was dead.
My apologies to Jane. You are right to say that you don’t support people just because they have a D and can win.

Jane Hamsher @ 64
Well, you asked…
the best part of spreading around modest amounts to many candidates (let’s see: C. Brown, Wulsin, Benson, McNerny, Rodriguez, Massa, etc…) is that we’ll end up owning so many Congresscritters…oh, wait, that’s the GOP way. never mind.

Hi Firedogs,
I just mailed off another $25 to Colleen Rowley and Francine Busby. We’ve been the victims of identity theft so we don’t do transactions over the web any more. I feel a special kinship to these mothers and patriots.
I just wanted to re-introduce myself, I’ve posted a couple of times, but mostly I read at the lake off and on all day long. I’m the mother of 4 boys, 3 human and 1 not( he’s a pooch). I truly appreciate the passion, humanity, and fine writing I find here. It’s inspired me to become more active, and I’ve joined with some local progressive groups where I live, hoping to make a difference.
One of my sons is dyslexic, so I’ve been fighting the established order for him for years. Finding a way to change our current government is a way for me to fight for all kids.
Thanks for being here, I support Firedoglake whenever we get a few extra bucks.
P.S. A just want to send a special shout out to my favorite dinosaur. I can’t tell you how many times his late night posts have lifted my spirits. Thanks, Mr.Rex
I did the Act Blue PAC, I couldn’t resist the ‘dollah a hollah’ bargain.

Well, I just lost my job and I’m essential broke, but thank you Firedoglake for providing a wonderful opportunity to help support such worthy candidates – even if it is only a few bucks each. It felt good to give. To Colleen Rowley because she is one of our country’s great heroines; to Angie Paccione because I once lived in Colorado and there is no reason why this beautiful state should be so red. To Paul Hodges because I live in NH and if the First District cant divorce that awful Jeb Bradley, at least the 2nd District might have a chance at redemption. And to Jon Tester – just finished the Vanity Fair article on how Conrad Burns and the Bush Administration are trying to wipe out America’s great wild mustang herds. I’m a horse woman and have known a few mustangs in my day – Fuck You Senator Burns, your days are numbered, Jon Tester is going to win and long live the mustangs of the Pryor Mountain Range!

It really is fantastic. There are races out there where what you folks did here today will make a big difference!
New Cook report out on house races.
Gooper seats only
4 lean dem
26 toss up
15 lean republican
18 likely republican (but not certain)
That means 63 gooper seats are at least somewhat in play– 45 are seriously in play.
Dems need 15 of em.
Watching the Moyers internet thing on PBS, it’s obvious every “high-speed” internet user is getting royally screwed. It’s the usual Republican/corporate swindle.
Surfmom @ 90

I live in Northern Wisconsin and have Kolb, Obey and Doyle to vote for this cycle. Rather boring, but GREAT! I have contributed to several Blue America candidates this year. Today I am giving to Victoria Wulsin, just because.
Lady Bug @
98
Lady Bug, thank you so much. It really means a lot and I know it comes from the heart. You are a gem.
Okay, I’ve spent my pin money for the week.
$5 to Lamont to kick Joe’s ass
$5 to Tony Trupiano downstate to kick out a neo-con
$5 to Blue America’s pot
Tip to keep things running
And $50 for a matching donation to the DNC (yes, double your money, get a ground game to support your candidates!!)
If my indie-voting husband ever finds out how much I’ve donated in total this year, he is going to blow a gasket. I’ve already ponied up $500 to a local PAC for the first African-American candidate in a key state senate race, and it doesn’t even begin to match what I’ve ponied up in in-kind donations or spread across half a dozen local races for county commissioners, state house reps, and Congressional candidates.
Sure hope I can figure out how to redirect attention at tax time…maybe we’ll all be doing better by then and I can “hide” the donations with some income. I sure hope like hell so, for all our sakes; hope we are raising a tide to raise all boats.

Oklahoma kiddo — re: the highspeed internet users…
Actually, any and every computer user with the ability to use WiFi has been royally f*cked. A key piece of technology was prevented from getting licensed, preventing pervasive wireless across the U.S. from becoming a possibility for another couple of years at least.

We are not done with this matter, Babs. After the election, I am coming for you.
way back when, I think it was the Howie/FDL session with Rick Penberthy in FL-05 (unfortunately he didn’t make it out of the primary), I characterized the ActBlue portal as an opportunity to “think globally, act locally – all across the nation”
Did the same for Webb.

Surfmom @ 90 –
My wife is also dyslexic and she is afraid to vote with the electronic machines [ they are Diebold ] because she sees it backwards and gets confused, especially if she feels pressured. She is afraid she will vote wrong. This year we decided to try to get absentee ballots so she can take time to look it over carefully. They may not give us one because of the early voting allowance. Our plan if we have to is to let her try the machines and if she feels confused, just walk away. Better to have one less vote than a wrong one I imagine.
Jacqrat- so, this is a kinda tacky question (maybe) but if you had to give an estimate as to what your “pro bono” work- your FREE volunteer work lining up radio stations for the “Had Enough” production by Tommy and co- would have cost in billable hours, what would it be?
You might want to ignore this question, or answer in some other way… either way, I understand. But, what I am wanting to point out is that your *expertise* has made a *huge* difference in getting the message out!!! (VG slinks off)

Don’t be freaked out about the MoveOn thing, during the primary I think there were some 4000 volunteers phone banking for CT and it made a huge difference, I think some 80 or 90,000 calls went out that day. It’s a great thing to do.
I gave $100 to J. McNerney earlier (for my old home base), and for you, op99, I just matched your ****$100**** to your boyfriend, Eric Massa.
And I was so pleased when I opened my MC bill today and the balance due was $0.00.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18, 2006 — President Bush said in a one-on-one interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that a newspaper column comparing the current fighting in Iraq to the 1968 Tet offensive in Vietnam, which was widely seen as the turning point in that war, might be accurate.

todd- p.s. the Lamont campaign did not do “robo calls” and people I talked to were fed up with you-know-who’s robo calls (robo-calls = leaving recorded messages- in that case, whiny Joe messages). I got the impression that people are interested to talking to a *REAL HUMAN*… go for it.

This guy has a chance to unseat one of Tom DeLay’s hand picked a**holes. Ya wanna drill down and find a great pick up outside of the MSM spotlight? Well, here’s one for ya. And it would be a special pick up. C’mon firepups, pony up!
People running for Congress that will probably lose this time can at least signal that they are serious candidates, and they can win IN TWO YEARS. Let’s take the long view. Help all candidates who will place well now and win in two years.
An EPU from the previous thread! Thank you TT! That is a wonderful statement.
TinT @ 204
Unreal, you know what they are doing with this don’t you? The Tet offensive was a devastating military defeat for the NVA and VC but the image of Charlie in the US Embassy and the scale of the attack finally turned the US public against the war. Without even watching this I’m sure what Bush is trying to say is that we are “winning” in Iraq and we just can’t see it.

I have really been inspired by John Laesch promise to his brother in Iraq to run against Hastert. John is the best example of selfless patriotism and service to this country that best defines the greatness of America that is worth fighting for.
I gave him twenty five dollars. I wish it were a million. He is worth it.
op99 @ 130
You’re a gem. But please, save some for your mortgage payment!
Since June, I have contributed over $800 to various candidates. Please can we have some campaign finance reform? Democracy is getting awfully expensive.
todd @ 119
Hey todd,
Just go down to the office whether it’s the Democratic Party office or a candidate’s and say you want to help: you don’t have to call; you can stuff envelopes; or write out postcards; or deliver lawn signs; or precinct walk; or …? there’s any number of things you can do, but just show up and make yourself available.
Too bad my Grandma (longtime Democratic Party stalwart in L.A.) isn’t still alive because I’d point you in her direction and she’d put you to work somewhere ;-)
ps Luv you Grandma Bobby (tears rolling down my cheeks)
Just gave to Angie and Fawcett and Winter again. (I’ll weep tears of the purest joy to see them all pull this off.)
And, ‘just because’, I added all the candidates from California, plus Ned and Gillibrand. As well as the BlueAmericaPAC and something in the ‘tip jar’ for good measure.
I’ve been outraged since Nov 2000 and I felt like I was in mourning after Nov 2004. I want to know what it is again to feel proud after an election.
Tomorrow, I’ll pick another state to ‘adopt’. Or two.
MLK, Yitzhak Rabin, Anwar al-Sadat, Abe Lincoln, JFK and Rachel Corrie. They belong to the ages.
the cyberruffian @ 134
Your wish is my $ command, cyber. Great to see you.

Can Jeb Bush be far behind?
Don’t know if it was linked before. Here’s Olbermann’s special comment from earlier this evening:

Why do I get the sense that my “progressive” brothers and sisters can’t get behind anyone with a military background?

When will they take it to the Supremes?
Great catch Balrog at 6:58. That’s a huge decision in that race.

Countdown Special Comment: Death of Habeas Corpus: “Your words are lies, Sir.”
When I checked the Blue America page ~ 2 hours ago the # of donors and $$ were:

AND NOW, it’s
Total 4,165 $335,043.08
WOWSA!!! Haven’t hear from Howie lately via an update at FDL, however, as to his post office adventures to deliver checks to the candidates… Howie? Howie? Has your car been towed?
I’d like to propose a shout-out to the tireless folks at the League of Women Voters. A certain family member is quite involved at the local level (hi Mom!). They aren’t partisan, of course, but their extensive voter education and registration efforts are a critical link in the electoral process. In CA the ballot inititatives get so convoluted that I simply rely on their anaysis and recommendations.

raven says October 18th, 2006 at 7:02 pm*
Why do I get the sense that my “progressive” brothers and sisters can’t get behind anyone with a military background?
Huh?
Well, for starters, there’s
Joseph Sestak Jr at BlueAmerica:http://www.actblue.com/page/blueamerica#9375
~~~Aside from being one of the most compelling people running for Congress in 2006, Admiral Joe Sestak is taking it on himself to help rid our government of a corrupt, slimy and somewhat mad reactionary rubber-stamp Republican. etc.~~~
Oklahoma kiddo @ 142
Yes.
Gandhi and Tutu and Biko and Mandela and many, many heroes still unheard from but yet still calling us.
moms, dads, sisters and brothers, children and orphans and the bereft all over the world, still unheard.
Obvioulsy I was wrong, thanks for setting me straight.
Valley Girl @ 156
Since June, I have contributed over $800 to various candidates. Please can we have some campaign finance reform? Democracy is getting awfully expensive.
Amen to that! On the other hand, it’s money well invested, IMO. On the other other hand, it’d be wonderful if it wasn’t so necessary. So vital, at this point.
raven- also, Christy made a comment on the last thread about there being many more candidates that FDL wanted to help… etc. So, it is def. not a military issue… and, thanks for reading and responding!!! Go Sestak!!! And co!
$5 for Blue America. Go Blue.
Raven – I’m donating to Webb.
And if you’re the same Raven who used to post comments at HuffPo a lot in the past , I totally admire your intellect.
uniquely_tim @ 117
Tim, if you have a doctor’s letter, some states allow you to take an assistant into the voting booth with you. I’m a polling commissioner in my state, and this is the way we do it.
Surfmom @ 131
Wow – IIRC, the driving legal authority pushing introduction of EVMs is Federal legislation mandating that voting machines be accessible to voters with disabilities.
The above reports suggest the Diebold/et al EVMs are not compliant with the Federal legislation used to excuse introduction of EVM’s.
EVM manufacturers (and their masters) cloak the forced introduction of these election-stealing machines by claiming the machines increase civil rights.
Pretty good real estate on the moral high ground.
Now it turns out Diebold’s machines disenfranchise those with a relatively common cause of disability.
Err..uhh…
Does mean EVM’s fail to satisfy criteria for disability access?
Hmm … can litigation regarding ADA and the Federal statute(s) mandating voting procedures accessible to those with disabilities be used to dump EVM’s for this election?
This approach doesn’t address (valid) observations the machines are riggable – that path is well travelled (yay!)
If voters with learning disabilities are disenfranchised by EVMs, the machines themselves seem to be incompatible with the Federal statutes used by (partisan) Secs of State to force EVMs on the public.
I’d also wonder if voting procedures/technologies that disenfranchise voters with learning disabilities may challenged under Fourteenth Amendment concerns.
Sure hope something sinks as many EVMs as possible in the next three weeks…
(EVM = electronic voting machines)
Haven’t seen latest polling on Schlesinger effect – anyone?
Nice clarion call tonight, FDL – keep up the great work!
Most of our money has gone to Webb, Lamont, Tester, Porter and Benson.
My phone banking and physical effort is mostly here in NH for Paul Hodes.
Gregg and Sununu– watch out; we’re gonna gitcha.
Twisted Martini @ 153
Thank you Twisted Martini for your kind thoughts. No matter what our personal situation, it is a great comfort to be part of such amazing community. Our nation’s survival rests in our hands – all of our hands, no matter the individual size or grip strength. We all have a part to play in saving our battered country. Again, I take great comfort in your thoughtful comments. Thank you comrade.
I scattered five here, five there, (ten to Laesch, in honor of Ed Schultz’s ringing endorsements) — wish I could have given five to each.
Immediately after Maria Cantwell’s cloture vote on Alito, I sent her a nasty-gram, promising I’d never contribute to her campaigns again, wouldn’t vote for her in a primary, but would vote for her over her Republican opponents.
Her money went to those who won’t pander to their deep red constituents.
I spent $5 on 12 candidates on Sunday and did my first phone banking (for Martin O’Malley for Governor) tonight. It took a few times to get comfortable with the speil but mostly you get answering machines anyway. To be honest, I wonder if caller ID and people abandoning land lines are making it all that effective. But overall it made me feel good to be able to contribute something to the cause.
It’s so nice to be able to support really *good* people, even if they are somewhere else, rather than just feel sick and helpless when you have a dud. We’ve got Sen. Stabenow, who voted for torture. Thank you for making it easy for individuals like me to contribute.
I was born and raised in New York. As a grad student and for many years thereafter, I lived in Athens, GA. TRex is a *superstar* for very many reasons, not the least of which is he lives in my favorite city!
For the last 13 years I have lived just north of Columbus, OH. I abhor Mean Jean. I was (and still am) a huge fan of Paul Hackett. Hackett paved the way. I want victory in OH in every race and, even though I don’t live in Wulsin’s district, I want her to wipe the floor with that rag, Mean Jean. I don’t have much to spare but, what I can give, Wulsin gets. Thanks again.
joyous @ 185
Thanks for the link, joyous. I actually had a favorite, Ms. Buckner from Georgia. We’re not all hopeless here, after all!
Angie,
Almost the entire NH contingent is a band of 2nd and third generation lightweight legacies…
Judd Gregg has been a lifetime politician and he should be the second one sent packing, after Bass.
As much as I disliked John Sununu Sr. I have found Jr. to be the most palatable of our delegation though the fact that Mehlman and Ed Gillespie used phone jamming to help him rankles me to this day.
Also, check out Driftglass, a real spirited smackdown of the ruling religious/corporatist degenerates.
Gotta hurry – thunderstorm coming in and causing tv problems — right in the middle of Moyers’s “Net neutrality”.
But –I finished my donations of $5.00 each to 6 candidates, plus a small tip to ActBlue. I’m pretty broke, as usual, but like someone said, a little bit tighter budget is nothing compared to continuing to lose our rights if this crowd continues in office. My choices were Fawcett, Gilliland, and Wulsin, based on info found here (thanks, Howie, Jane, Christy, and everybody else), plus Cardin – because my family has lived in Maryland for 30 years, and Collen Rowley, because she did her best to keep 9/11 from happening, despite her “superiors” being total d—a—s.
Okay, gotta go. Have my NYEx (see Looseheadprop for def) setting his dvr for CSPAN tomorrow am (I don’t have cable – had to choose between that and internet. no choice for me!). Looking forward to seeing Christy in action!
Now to shut down before the lightning takes out my “new” computer!
Thanks – I feel so much better!
October Surprise 13
It’s time I came out of the closet. I am a faithful lurker of this and many other sites–the likely suspects. I only wish I could give more $$$. I chose the candidates first because of who and where they are, and second because of who they are running against. I have lots to say, but I am a slow typist and my keyboard is broken, which makes the whole enterprise that much more frustrating. FDL has done great work–I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t found the Liberal/Progressive netroots five years ago. It is great to know that there are so many who have had more than enough and are giving so much to help take our country back.
Weller, IL-10. Head’s up, in a very good way.
OK, here’s my list:
Bruce Braley (IA-01) $5.00
Coleen Rowley (MN-02) $5.00
Ned Lamont (CT-Sen) $5.00
Steven Porter (PA-03) $5.00
John Laesch (IL-14) $5.00
I didn’t know much about Braley (I think I started coming here regularly after he’d already visited), but he’s in the next state over, so it felt good to help a neighbor. Coleen Rowley is just a flat-out hero; Ned’s race is important nationally; I was really impressed with Steve Porter when he was here, and John Laesch is another neighbor, and, well, a cute one at that. Not to mention that his opponent is someone who really ought to find another job.
GSD @ 193
Totally agree about Sununu– he actually has a Brain and a Conscience. Voted to keep Habeas and other important stuff. If he didn’t have big rethug bro’ Judd and the stinko party, I do really think he would run Indy and I miggght just vote for him. He just needs our support to do the switcheroo a la Jeffords.
Todd, I hear you, I really am not great on the phone, and I loathe phone calls to my house that are any kind of sales pitch, political or otherwise.
But I did some phone banking anyway, just cringing at the thought of disturbing some little old person in the middle of their nap.
MoveOn makes it easy, gives you a script and a practice session.
And actually, people were relieved to hear from a live person. They’d all been inundated with computer generated calls.
And though many politely answered questions and hung up as soon as possible, there were a few who were happy to engage in some talk, let off some steam.
So: forget the awkwardness, you’ll get over it. Just do it, you’ll be glad.
If there is another Republican involved in an underage sex scandal the whole of DC might just immolate.
Weller is IL 11. And who knows if he had sex with a sixteen year old? “Some people” say he did!
Keith Olbermann was spectacular tonight. I wished I was taking notes. His delivery: so calm, yet so impassioned. He’s just gotten better and better.
Imm: I’m actually going on the head’s up of my bro in law’s sister, who works at HHS, so take that for what it’s worth. But we shall see.
And for anyone agonizing over whether or not to: donate, canvass, phone bank, stuff envelopes, make that call – C’mon people, don’t dream it BE IT. Lots of people here are doing things we haven’t done before and we’re not experts but we’re learning as we go and we’re getting each other’s back while we’re at it. Just get out there.
And this has been mentioned, but I’ll confirm from my end: there is still a shortage of volunteers. Canvassed here (first time for me) this weekend in a smallish city – 30,000? – there were only SIX of us. HELP.
Polls posted on MyDD today have them both ahead of their opponents for the first time, but not by enough to guarantee victory. They have to win by so much bush will be afraid to jail them as enemy combatants.
JonathanTURLEY (on Olbermann: Well, you know what? I think people are fooling themselves if they believe that the courts will once again stop this president from taking over—taking almost absolute power. It basically comes down to a single vote on the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy. And he indicated that if Congress gave the president these types of powers, that he might go along.
And so we may have, in this country, some type of uber-president, some absolute ruler, and it’ll be up to him who gets put away as an enemy combatant, held without trial.
Just dropped 5 to 6 different candidates on your page. It’s not my first contribution this cycle, but I thought I’d send some lurking love to you all.
Watch Out
Do you really think Rove is sitting around saying game over.
Seems like Karl should be arranging for some big set back for the evil secular democrats.
A few Bush & Company options.
1. Always good FEAR, FEAR, FEAR — how about a terrorist incident at a football game. This one is good for FEAR, FEAR and more FEAR, plus you don’t mess with American enjoyment of a good hard hitting game of talent, after all its not like we are at war or something like that.
2. How about a democrat in office taking money from the terrorists. This one could be leaked (planted) in about 2 weeks and of course would be found untrue a week after the election.
3. Maybe multiple unconfirmed sources could reveal a democrat in office has child porn on their computer, of course the investigation will complete after the election.
4. Better yet, simply adjust the Diebold software in the right direction.
5. I’m sure the right has a long list of real dirt on the not so clean themselves democrats. Problem may be its just not dirty enough.
6. Rumsfeld had a list of 37 items, I’m sure Rove has a much longer list of things to do.
I will be very surprised if Karl neo con smarter than the Monday night football crowd is just sitting idle.
Sorry to say it’s not me. Raven is my sweet old cocker spaniel.
OK Jane,
I just did 5bucks for each – total $170. It’s so little compared to what you guys do. I did several hundred for Lamont in the VERY early going. Let’s hope we can take back our country!
Jane and Christy, you guys are fantastic.
I gave $5 to each and a $17 tip as well for a total of $187.
Delurking to give $10 to Rodriguez in California – simply because I loved the chicken debate.
Hi Jane, I gave $5 to the following:
Charlie Brown — Because Doolittle is probably the most corrupt member of Congress.
Amy Kloubacher — Because she has such a pretty face.
John Laesch — Because any opponent of Hastert is a friend of mine.
Jerry McNerney — Because Pombo is a truly dangerous nut.
Jon Tester — Because Burns…well, what else can you say?
Bill Wintner — Because Tancredo is another truly dangerous nut.
Victoria Wulsin — Because Jean Schmidt really REALLY has to go.
I just donated to Jay Fawcett in Colorado. I grew up in that district, and the thought that it could go Blue makes me delirious with joy.
I’m in nice, safely-Democrat Boston, so it feels f’ing great to be able to kick in for a race that matters.
I’m one of those people who reads all the time but who has never left a comment. I told myself yesterday after fulfilling my DNC pledge that I couldn’t afford that I couldn’t give any more money, but then I figured in a year the money would seem insignificant compared to having a Democratic congress, so I gave more. $5.00 to John Laesch because I would love to see Hastert go down, $5.00 to Angie Paccione because she seems like the kind of person we should have in charge, plus I would love to see that hateful bitch Musgrave have to crawl back to her lair, and I gave $15.00 to Roger Sharpe because he seems like an honest, ethical guy, and he is refusing to take big business money. If somebody is willing to make that pledge it is up to us to support them, but of course I don’t need to tell you people that. I’ll research a little more and then give more. To hell with it.
Happy birthday to Christy, Christine and Siun. May this be a good year for each of you.
What to get for people who have everything: integrity, intelligence, insight, radiance and compassion? Hmmm.
How about:
$50 to the BlueAmerica PAC
in your honor and with big thanks to Howie Klein for the “Have You Had Enough?” spot for Carol Voisin’s campaign (OR-02). Folks just love it.
