A closeted Republican builder here, who was also not entirely honest about his age, although that was more of a sin of omission. Do Republicans think that NOBODY will ever ask them questions?

Honestly, I just sat and listened to a guy who’s working to re-elect Jon Kyl. Actively.

Does anybody know how moveon.org decides what candidates to support?

Tonight I drove 30 miles from home to attend a home party screening of Iraq for Sale. When I got there I learned that they wanted us to do an hour of cell phone banking before watching the film. moveon had sent calling lists to the host. It turned out the district we were calling into was not ours, but Mark Foley’s (I live in the Midwest). After reading about Tim Mahoney on Howie’s thread today, I was not happy. He doesn’t sound like much of a Democrat, but I made the calls.

I just wonder about their strategy.

I hosted one of these parties. It’s not a scam at all–the parties were very clearly advertised as people phoning for about an hour, followed by watching the movie.

I think MoveOn randomly assigns you a district that they’re targeting in their time zone unless you’re in a targeted district. I’m in Boston and we called Ohio for Sherrod Brown (senate).

After several really bad dates I had learned the “coffee only” rule already, so we met at my favorite neighborhood coffee shop. After placing our order my “date” decided to take issue with the attitude of the counter person and started into a racist diatribe “You people think…” I was so horrified I was frozen to the spot.

Until he decided to try to jump over the counter at the woman, at which point I existed post-haste. Turned out her boyfriend was sitting over at the nearest table and a melee ensued.

As the other patrons whipped out their cell phones to either call for the police or share this horror with their friends and loved ones I sat in the pizza joint on the corner ruing the loss of my favorite coffee hangout forever. I never did have the nerve to go back in there.

DefJef: This is one way to BUILD community — by sharing common experiences and laughing together at our lessons learned. Not every damn post has to be about empowering. Sounds to me like this embarrasses you and you fear negative reactions from homophobes on the other side. Get over it.

Jane, I can’t bring myself to share the x-rated “sex with Republicans” story I have because it makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit even today, all these years later. Let’s just say that it echoes T-Rex’s crazy date and mine pulled out a switchblade and started ranting about those “crazy damned liberals that are ruining my f-ing country!” He was an ex-marine. Thankful I survived that one and I learned my lesson….
