[David Roth joins us today in the comments to talk about his candidacy. Please give him a warm FDL welcome. As always, please keep this Blue America thread on topic, and please be polite. Thanks! --CHS]
Mary Bono was appointed to her congressional seat (CA-45) in 1998 after her husband Sonny, Cher's former sidekick, died in a skiing accident. She has never had any serious opposition. Until now. She's an airhead and a rubber stamp with not a lick of sense. She is petrified to be seen in the same vicinity of David Roth, the progressive Democrat challenger her re-election bid, and she absolutely refuses to debate him. It would be like a slow 4 year old debating a brilliant professor.
Mary Bono has had the sense to try to cultivate a moderate image. Unfortunately, a quarter inch of scratching under the image is a stepford supporter of the most outrageous and hideous of the entire Bush/Big Business agenda. A member of the Scientology cult, she is quite used to having authority figures make decisions for her.
I don't think you will find a bigger contrast between candidates anywhere in America than the one between Mary Bono and David Roth. When I spoke to David for the first time a couple weeks ago, the very first thing he said to me was,
"I am convinced that politics is noble. I have believed for my entire life that politics is about empowering people, empowering communities."
David is a take charge kind of can-do person. But he's apprehensive that our very democracy is teetering on the brink — not just because of the excesses of the Bush Regime, but because people seem to have lost faith in our government.
Like many people in the Southern California district, David doesn't hold Bono in high regard.
"I haven't met anyone who is pleased with the direction our nation has been taken nor with the results or the actions of my opponent… She wasn't prepared for this job when she was selected for it and she hasn't been able to rise to the challenge any day since. You have to care and you have to lead and you have to stand up."
If you want to read about a leader who has a record of caring and of standing up and who accomplishes things, let me point you to David's inspiring biography.
Talk to David and everything about him reads "winner."
And he isn't taking any chances. He's put together the largest and most robust field campaign in the history of Riverside County. He's the first Democrat who has ever raised enough money to compete effectively in this district.
"My campaign is about winning," he told me, "and about change and about substance and what I can bring to the people who I will be serving… Her campaign is just a big ad buy. She's raised a great deal of money. She'll never walk a precinct or go to a house party or attend a town hall meeting. And she'll never debate me. She's refused every opportunity to debate, not just from my campaign but from community organizations like AARP and the local media."
When I asked David what the most crucial issues he's hearing about from people in the district he reels 'em right off: gas prices and energy, health care, the war in Iraq and the educational infrastructure (his specialty).
"My message resonates with the majority of the people in the district– a very diverse district; they just haven't voted in the past. My campaign has been geared to change those patterns. We've been organizing– from voter registration right up through energizing thousands of people who have never been part of the political process before."
David's campaign defines a grassroots effort, albeit a relatively well-financed one. But he has had a great deal of help from progressive luminaries, campaigning with Barbara Boxer, Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Linda Sanchez, Henry Waxman, etc. Of course, he's too progressive and anti-war to expect any assistance from Rahm Emanuel but real Democrats like Frank and Boxer see a winner in David and they're helping him get his message out.
If you'd like to lend a hand, we've added David to the Blue America ActBlue page and the first 25 contributors for his campaign there today will be mailed an exciting CD called What Is Hip?, a compilation of contemporary remixes of classic songs by Rod Stewart, the Doobie Brothers, America, DEVO, Todd Rundgren, George Benson, Gary Wright, and many others. If you just want to help David's campaign and don't want the CD, please add a penny to your donation so we'll know not to send one.

David Roth here….and hello from the Campaign to unseat Mary Bono….
David Roth!
My brother’s name is David Roth, but he’s a folk singer.
David!
Such a thrill to see David Roth featured here on my favorite site. I know plenty about Roth, and my questions were answered back in January when I started volunteering for him.
Just sending you some love, David!
David — welcome! Howie won’t be able to join us this evening, so you guys are stuck with me — but David is an awesome candidate, and I hope everyone has a great discussion. The YouTube above is one that David’s campaign put together, and it really puts his candidacy — versus Mary Bono’s — into some good perspective.
Actually, here’s one. What will your first proposed bill be, once you get to Washington?
soyinkafan @ 3
Thx so much…You are the best! Actually, it is amazing how many wonderful people have come around this campaign — more volunteers than any campaign in our area’s history!
Hi David. Thanks for entering the fray against the Airhead Mary. When you get to congress next month, what’s on the top of your agenda for January?
Thanks.
soyinkafan @ 5
My first set of bills will revolve around education, and will include a bill to (finally) raise the value of the Pell grant, and to dramatically reform the No Child Left Behind Act (otherwise known as the No Teacher Left Standing Act…)
soyinkafan @
6
Oops. I was beaten to the punch.. great minds and all that. :)
Weren’t you the guy who replaced Howard Stern?
Just kidding David, welcome to the Lake. How is the Foley deal playing in your district?
David… isn’t there a large military population in your district? How have military folk greeted your candidacy? I’m sure that they have no use for a rubber stamp.
Twisted Martini @ 10
Great question…. Mono and Foley are old friends (she sold him Sonny’s Jeep after he died!!!)…although now she says that she “does not know how really to define friendship…” Hmmmmm. Bottom line….people are tired of the flip-flops….
Christy Hardin Smith @ 5
And me.
David, welcome. So happy you are challenging Bono, and really happy you are taking on the No Teacher Left Standing Act. Thee long term damage of that monstrosity is mind boggling.
Another question: will you support lobbying and ethics reform as part of a Democratic House initiative to differentiate us from the Lying, Corrupt Bastards (aka “republic”-ans)?
soyinkafan 6 — that’s great that you are volunteering. Pach would be proud.
dannyM @ 12
Yes…there is a large military presence (mostly retired) — and they were/are not happy with her votes to cut Vet benefits and her support of taking Social Security to Wall Street…among other issues.
David, what are the demographics in your district? IIRC, it’s pretty Republican as far as registration…or is that old news?
Jo Fish @ 15
Yes, Yes and Yes! My thesis at Reed College was on Campaign Finance Reform…so I’ve been waiting to be part of the solution for many years…
David — thanks so much for putting yourself on the line to run for office in this district. Mary Bono has been SUCH a rubber stamp for the Bush Administration, and it’s high time she had a serious challenge. Is she still running from a debate with you?
MayDaze @ 18
Our County (Riverside) is the fastest growing County in the Nation…and all those new folks are coming to find cheaper housing…and are primarily Democrats. The place has changed/is changing as I write this…and that’s good news.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 20
Her office issued a statement last Friday that she will not debate me…period. It’s pathetic, really….but not surprising.
David Roth @ 9
Mr. Roth, how would you go about reforming NCLB? That sucker has tentacles everywhere! Can it actually be reformed, do you think, or is it just too bad and should be scrapped and started fresh? And, of course, what do you think will be politically possible? I guess what I am asking here, is what would you like to do, and what do you think we can actually expect to happen wrt NCLB?
Having spent most of my life in California, and having family and friends in the Golden State, from Sacramento to La Jolla, (home to my daughter), I retain much interest in the comings and goings of California. Would you care to comment on what are, in your view, the most pressing problems confronting Californians today?
David Roth @ 22
So can you accuse her of cut and run?
HotFlash @ 23
Great question… My priorities revolve around reforming NCLB’s “accountability provisions” — which are actually CAUSING schools and teachers and kids to fail…so that, and this is not hyperbole…the argument can be made for vouchers and other means of deconstructing public education. We also must reform the loan/grant process and financial aid system…so that kids are leaving school less in debt than they are now. So much to do….
jane hamsher @ 16
Now I’m blushing – I just worship you. :) Please check out the Roth diaries on Daily Kos if you want more background on this race. David is waking up an entire district here in the 45th. Just search for diaries by soyinkafan, or by the tag CA-45th.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 24
As it relates to what I will do in the House…we must move to create the incentives for those businesses and people focused on creating the “next generation” of alternative energy to come to CA and keep us in the fore of this growing field. But there are so many issues facing the Golden State…from the state of our urban schools to the destruction of our forests caused by pine beetles attacking trees that are drought-stricken…
David — I know that Bono’s record in terms of some environmental issues (CAFE standards, for example) has not been great. Is that an issue that works well in your district? Have you been able to talk much about environmental standards in the campaign? (Knowing that you haven’t been able to debate her because she is simply too chicken…but hoping you at least get to hit some of the issues in other public events.)
Tag should be: CA-45
I’m at work, therefore can’t do a proper job of this. Go, David, GO!
soyinkafan @ 27
MayDaze @ 25
not really cut and run….more like slink away and hide.
While I Was Away II: Renee’s Candle

Thanks to everyone!
Everyone, please keep comments in the Blue America thread on topic for the chat with today’s guest — David Roth, running for a win in CA-45!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 29
Yes, we have been able to bring up some important issues…like the need for growth boundries (see my earlier comment about the growth in Riverside…), and Bono’s support for mining in National Monuments. It’s an interesting area we live in…since we are only two hours from LA, but so truly isolated and dependent on scarce resources — like water!
Whoo, I just got back from your website. You have a lot of background and a fascinating family tree — Scottish and Jewish immigrant parents, one a minister the other a career educator, military connections, even a grandfather in the CIA! You’ve been a park ranger, university administrator, um, alternative fuels advisor, it goes on and on. Sounds like you come well prepared to congress — you’d be an asset to any committee or working group.
HotFlash @ 35
Thx…and yes, my mom was a minister and my dad a Jew from Oregon. And my mom’s first meal that she prepared for her in-laws was a ham. True story…
David Roth @ 36
Oh no, that’s so funny (and so Scottish!) What’ they *do*?
David Roth @ 22
Hello, David and welcome to FDL! If Mary is too scared to debate you, perhaps you could take a scene out of “Jesus Camp” and “Debate” a cardboard cut-out replica?
Hello Mr.Roth…
Good luck to you in November my question is: In three words why should people vote for you.
My answer is : Change, Better and Caring. What are yours?
Jane E. Smith
La Quinta, CA
VOTE ROTH!!!
Mr. Roth:
Thank you for joining us today and answering our questions. Mine is this:
Education is important but my parents, in Palm Desert, live on a fixed income like most typical retirees. What is your outreach to folks like my parents, lifelong Republicans?
HotFlash @ 37
Actually…so much of who I am and what I do is because my folks really taught me what real understanding and empathy was all about. You can’t grow up a Southern Minister and marry an Oregon Jew without a pretty radical revolution in thinking…just the kind of thinking that is rarely used by our current elected officials.
David Roth @ 35
That IS funny. I’m a minister, (maiden name, Roth) my dad was a Jew from the Kiev area and he lied to his family and didn’t tell them my mom was not Jewish. I don’t think she ever had an opportunity to serve them anything.
I will have to put my brother, David in contact with your campaign team. Maybe he can help in some way, but he’s not due in CA until well after the election.
The other big issue everywhere this election is theose %^&^%&^ machines. Do voters in CA-45 have (or need) a strategy such as absentee voting or such to ensure that their votes are counted correctly and recountable if necessary?
Jacqrat @ 38
Yes…we have actually done this many, many times already — and will do it again!
Also…say No-No to Bono!!!!
Thank you for caring aboutour area and beyond!

It would be a good ad, but my question is, why do they have a small picture of her (the picture on the bottom right hand side) that makes her look MUCH hotter than she actually is. I couldn’t believe she’s actually that hot, and went and googled her picture and a simple normal picture of her doesn’t look as good as she did in that ad!
WTF? Couldn’t they have found a nasty-looking picture of her that made her look fat or goofy or unkempt or something? Forget the white slinky dress! She looks like she’s some sort of model in that stupid ad!
We’re not trying to get people to want to date her!
Hi David,
My question has to do with housecleaning.
When you are elected and begin to tackle your priorities, would you get behind rolling back the unitary executive?
Thanks.
Suzanne @ 40
Another great question… I have spent many hours talking with lifelong Reps., and have yet to encounter one who is happy with the direction of our Nation. Just yesterday, I spent most of the day with seniors in Rancho Mirage…and talked about Social Security…the Iraq war and Health Care reform. They all agreed with my solutions…and the majority were Republicans.
Say NO-No to Bono!!!
Thank you for caring about our area and beyond!

Good Luck, David Roth!
If anyone else was wondering like me here’s a map of the CA-45 district.
Jane E. Smith @ 45
Thanks, Jane!!! Now go walk another precinct…
Cugel at 46 — You know, I’m not certain that David wants to discuss the dating potential of his opponent, or her appearance. I’m fairly certain he’s here to discuss more substantive issues today.
This is relevant to any discussion re: David
http://youtube.com/watch?v=s5OBo3sKrYk
Thank you for your answer Mr. Roth @ 3:12. To follow up, my mother likes Bono because “she is trying to save the Salton Sea”. The desert has special environmental needs. How can I convince my mother that you will actually “do something” about it?
HeirofPatriots @ 50
One of the most diverse areas in the Nation, really. My District includes a city with one of the highest per-capita incomes in the State (Indian Wells) only about 7 miles away from one with the lowest (Coachella). Which City do you think my opponent has served??
Hello, David. Welcome to FDL! I was wondering if you have any committee preferences and what they are. If you end up serving on a congressional committee, that would make you MY representative too, even though I’m in the third world “City of Louisiana”.
David Roth @ 44
That would make a *wonderful* ad!
Suzanne @ 54
Bottom line, Bono has done hardly anything for the Salton Sea. Only two months ago, 3 million fish died (as your folks probably remember from the smell)… My job will be to ensure that the locally created proposal (from the Salton Sea Authority) actually comes to fruition. No more consultants…no more money for studies. We need action. When Mary was “selected” by Newt Gingrich for this job, he promised $300 million for the Sea. Hardly any $$$ has ever arrived….
Good luck David getting that debate.
We have the same problem here in GA 6th where the incumbent R Tom Price keeps running and hiding from debating his challenger Steve Sinton.
Good Luck Nov 7.
David, with the long hard job ahead of rolling back the damage Bush has inflicted, what congressional committies are you going to get on.
LindyH @ 56
I am glad you asked! I wish to serve on the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (the ethics committee), the Education and Workforce Committee and the International Relations Committee. In fact, I have already indicated to Cong. Pelosi my interest in serving on the ethics committee…since we MUST restore faith that Congress can hold itself accountable. (Cong. Berman said that he has NEVER heard of someone actually wanting to serve on ethics…)…
During my last couple of years in college in California, Ronald Reagan was governor. My sense is that before Mr. Reagan took office, California was just behind New York (#1, I believe N.Y. was) in spending for higher education. Mr. Reagan attempted to gut educational spending in California. And was I believe, largely successful in his efforts. Prop. 13 came along and of course, that was the icing on the cake for downgrading spending on public education. California’s once fine educational system has never recovered. Any thoughts on ways to counteract what Reagan wrought during his years as governor respective of public education spending? The belief in this household is that quality, and affordable public higher education, is KEY to breaking the grind of poverty.
Unfortunately, I have to leave in about five minutes…to get to an event about an hour away. But this has been great…and I hope to do it again… Keep the faith!!!
David,
I have been keeping track of your race and it looks like Bono is having a very tough time of it.
I don’t know much about her work in Congress — other than she was Sonny’s wife, pushed recording industry issues and was a friend of Mark Foley’s. Did she ever do anything about the Salton Sea as she promised? It looks the same to me – dead.
Can you also tell me your views on the war in Iraq and how they may or may not differ from Mary Bono’s?
Just a few “little” topics!
Thanks!
David Roth @ 63
You know Norske? Lol.
Hi David:
Without giving away campaign secrets, does your internal polling show you have a hot at winning this district?
welcome, and good luck from a northern Californian
Oklahoma kiddo @ 62
I could talk about this for hours…but simply put — we must ensure that our public schools are serving EVERY community and kid…and we know how to do this, but don’t fund or create policy towards that end. Kids learn when they have small classes and plenty of resources — and they are NOT all cut from the same cloth.
David Roth @ 63
Thank you so much for being here! Best of luck. Watch your back and go get Bono out!
Scott Tribe @ 66
Yes. I am not only a candidate…but a political scientist…and we most certainly can win. And win big.
I have to run…my best to you all!!!
Jane and Christy, I want to tell you how MUCH it means to me to be able to question these candidates for Congress. It’s one thing to donate to a candidate, it’s quite another to be able to speak to the candidate before donating. Thank you! I feel like I’m making a real investment in my government for the first time in my life.
Hello David,
I’d like to fire a couple of fastball questions where you basically can’t win. :->
Recently, the DEA has been aggressively shutting down medical marijuana clubs in San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles and other cities in California — do you support the declassification of marijuana as a Class “A” narcotic equivalent to heroin?
Given the sheer number of laws the Bush-Cheney administration has broken in it’s un-Constitutional assertion of unchecked executive power in time of war, where do you stand on possible impeachment hearings?
TIA and good luck!
I think we have a new category of being EPU’d…
By the time I carefully crafted my questions the candidate moved to another venue!
Cliff Varnell @
73
Could we call it Over the Cliff?
David — thanks SO much for stopping by — this has been a wonderful discussion. Best of luck in November!
That is a really powerful ad. There should be an ad like that for every race in every district. Leave in all the Rumsfeld/Cheney/Bush bits and then stick in whoever the local Republican is, with their signature stupid quote–’cause they all have one.
My only complaint, is that the only words you hear are Mary Bono, in a soothing tone, saying that Iraq will blow over soon. If the average voter walks through the living room when that ad is on, that’s all they hear. The part about 2000 troops dying since she said that should be uttered aloud. Preferably by James Earl Jones.
Glancing through recent House votes,
Recently Bono voted for:
1. Military Commissions (both versions): for torture and kangaroo courts
2. Electronic Surveillance: for warrantless wiretapping
3. Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act: adults including clergy and healthcare workers can not help minors to cross statelines to get abortions
4. Immigration Law Enforcement Act of 2006: the crazy House anti-immigrant bill
5. Federal Election Integrity Act of 2006: a voter suppression bill
6. Secure Fence Act of 2006: 700 miles of fence for 2,000 miles of border. How stupid is that?
7. Estate Tax and Extension of Tax Relief Act: Welfare for the rich; crumbs for the poor
8. Legislative Line Item Veto Act: What? Signing statements aren’t enough?
Rubberstamp pretty much covers it. She could have mailed these votes in.
Hugh at 77 — she practically does. It’s one of those “how high?” on the way up sorts of jumps for her. I’d LOVE it if David wins this election — this district would be much better served by someone doing the real work for them. And we’d all be better off having an independent voice in Congress rather than the Bono rubber stamp.
Brother Klein, I believe “Linda Sanchez” is actually my friend Loretta Sanchez, “the woman who kicked B-1 Bob Dornan’s Ass – Twice.”
OK, so it’s once removed and thus not fair, but still…from Sonny and Cher’s Greatest Hits:
“Have I Stayed to Long?”
Yes.
“It’s the Little Things”
…and the big things, Mary.
Diamond Dave, I’d definitely vote for you over Sammy Hagar. Van Halen went totally downhill when you left them and he took over vocal duties.
does anybody else find that it takes a long time to load Rawstory.com?
Biggus Diggus @ 81

Bono is not the only one who’s a rubber stamp. Boxer is too…hence her lack of support for Ned Lamont. BUSH wants his girlfriend Joe re-elected, and Babs does too. After that, the rest is bullshit.
On the REALLY important stuff, not the red herring wedge issues, Boxer is with Bush more often than not. Her support of Lieberman is an unforgivable sin in my book.
Now if Bono were to sing for Van Halen that might be interesting.
What? Nobody told me it was break time.
Women and Children First
(cross-posted on Kos)
What many people do not seem to understand is that Bushco is doing EXACTLY what they intend, which is to destroy the government in all but name by the time they leave. They are in fact frightenly competent at their real goal.
There are so many truly incompetent people and cronies in the bureacracy that the truly well meaning people who do work in government cannot keep the system working.
They are destroying the essential trust, “The consent of the governed”, in the government by its citizens without which the government can do nothing to stem the corporations rapacious greed and urge to control what they can.
You can see it in the poll results where people grade both parties as equally bad on corruption and trustworthiness. Sure those polls are slanted by the corporate-owned media, but just talking to people on both sides of the spectrum will illustrate the point that people are nearly at the point where they simply do not trust the govt to do ANYTHING right. Not even national defense now. No Nation-Building either, not even here in the “homeland”.
I wish I could say that the Democrats coming into power now will fix it, but there are so many corporate lickspittles among them and the fact that they totally cooperated with the Rethugs in redistricting where the politicians pick the voters instead of the voters picking them has brought me to the point that I no longer have confidence that enough good people can take over now at the verge and stop it.
When they are all gone, their corporate buddies will take them in and the government will be powerless to stop them, no matter who is in charge of the government. Deregulation has worked so well for the corporations. There are no tools left for the government to do anything to go after them or recover their ill-gotten gains, and even when there are, the Republemmings and Democraps have reduced the penalties to the point of the cost of doing business, and even when that happens, the corporations lawyers fight it out and end up not paying anyways.
Actually, as I write this, I realize I must go further. When Democrats did not stand up with McCain, Warner, and Graham to stop TORTURE, and then some even voted for it, I say that was the moment in history when the feeding tube was pulled from Democracy’s body. It is truly over now, as all future Presidents will claim this power in law, if not in fact.
The framers tried really hard to stop this experiment from going astray and they were so brilliant in that task that it did well for almost two hundred years before it went too far. They could not stop a COMPLETELY INTENTIONAL attempt to literally break the system forever. Eisenhower warned about the military industrial complex, and it has now performed the slowest motion coup in history. We are merely spectators, not even participants at this point.
God help us all.
I met her. I covered her. She is an idiot. But that is a tough GOP district.
great advt.
Where did everyone go?
Should I start looking out for jack booted thugs?
I don’t want to be re educated!
Bustednuckles @ 90
maybe there’s a “need to know” new thread, and frankly…
Oh,
that was cold!
Kind of like an ABC thread ?
“C’ my way out of it? lol
is there a new thread? I don’t see it…
Some one must have parked one of those trucks on the toobz and cut off the flow.
Go A’s!!
looks like reids in trouble
I guess we’re gonna loose that seat.
me to me at 96 — the story is likely crap — I’ve heard from several different sources that this is the GOP story plant to try and deflect from Foley and say “everyone does it.” And I sincerly doubt we will lose the seat because John Solomon wrote a piece that, not surprisingly, Drudge and Limbaugh started hyping the instant it hit the wires (gee, wonder how that happened). Solomon tends to be a sort of GOP go-to guy for this sort of dirty story — so his by-line on this makes me very skeptical. Less Eeyore, more skepticism, m’kay?
Christy: Thanks for the opportunity to speak with Mr. Roth.
me to me at 96 — in fact, here’s a statement from the real estate attorney who handled the transaction that wasw forwarded to me when I asked someone else about this earlier:
Mitch Ogron, Real Estate Attorney who found the land purchased by Reid and Brown
Senator Reid and Jay Brown asked me to help find real estate for investment. I found the property they ultimately purchased and arranged
the deal for them. PermaBilt, ALC, and Del Webb played absolutely no role in the deal. In fact, Senator Reid and Jay Brown never even had direct contact with the owners of the real estate throughout the transaction. The details were handled by me, the title company, and the escrow agent. This was a simple and straightforward transaction.
There is a new thread.
http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..r/#respond
Suzanne at 98 — thanks for taking the time to talk with him. Hope your parents will take a peek at him — he’s a great candidate, and I’d love to see Mary Bono given her walking papers.
me to me @ 96
ummm, no (via Kos): LINK
From Big Tent Democrat
Even Professor Reynolds sees this dog wont hunt:
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn’t personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.
. . . UPDATE: Reader Anthony Calabrese thinks there’s probably less here than the AP story suggests:
I am a long time reader — also a tax lawyer. While my practice does not involve real estate investments, I think it may be much ado about nothing. Generally, if you transfer property to a company in return for an interest in the company, there is no federal income tax on the transfer. If the company was an LLC (as stated in the media reports), the company was probably a partnership for tax purposes. There would be no LLC level tax as profits and losses would pass through to the partners.
So I can see no real tax issue. The only issue is that Reid might have been hiding his ownership of the property, but holding investment property in an LLC is fairly common in order to protect the owners from torts or bankruptcy. I think this is simply an issue of someone forgetting to file a form.
Good for Professor Reynolds.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 101
Thank you all for giving Roth such a great forum, hey, for all the candidates you do this for. You, Pach, Jane, Howie, et.al., are simply brilliant, and you make me proud of America.
Late to the party, but:
I’m in.
Hey, I’m all for defeating Mary Bono and any other Republican House member, but you should correct the glaring error at the beginning of this post. No House member has ever been appointed to his/her seat (people often confuse that with Senators appointed after a vacancy). Bono was first elected in a special election called after the death of Sonny.
“Hello, David and welcome to FDL! If Mary is too scared to debate you, perhaps you could take a scene out of “Jesus Camp” and “Debate” a cardboard cut-out replica?”
When the inmates run the asylum do you dare quote George Orwell?
