It’s a keeper! Go Ned!
Wow! I’ve now achieved the coveted zero!
Hardball asks the question “is Iraq out of control?” Ask Joe Lieberman. Or for that matter, ask Senator Hillary Clinton.
That’s a damn good one.
I like the one with the little kids in it, too.
Is Ned’s campaign coffer able to get as much air time as he wishes?
How are the poll numbers trending?
In my haste to achieve a zero, I didn’t say much about the ad itself…which is very good in how it uses Joe’s own words against himself. The “now he speaks the truth” is a little lost, but it doesn’t fundamentally change the ad’s effectiveness.
Joe sure looks plegmatically goofy.
Still, I’d like also to see ads that show Lamont being senatorial, unifying, and above-it-all.
I was wondering if they were waiting to throw Joe’s words to him….it’s so lovely
Lamont knows what to do about Iraq. He is a man for the times.
Oklahoma kiddo @

Wolf covering series of explosions of US ammo depots in Baghdad. Out of control? I think so.
Ned must fight back.
Using Joe’s words is a good way to do so without
being too negative.
I think it works well, particularly with the mix of other ads like the little kid one.
Ned on Tweety now
Catch the replay in 2 hours
Matthews is an outrage. He is perpetuating the lie that Lamont is anti-Israel. Lamont is pro the sate of Israel. I’m sick of this.
Lamont knows his stuff.
Great ad, tight, focused, hits hard.
McCain criticizes Clinton on N. Korea today.
If it comes to McCain vs. Senator Clinton in 2008, this voter will go Clinton in a New York nano-second. Period.
Loved the ad.
Effective. Charming. Likable Ned. Doofus Joe.
Time for a change–yes.
Let ‘em nominate McCain. He is so thin skined his meltdown will be a matter of hours not days.
Joe looks like Bozo the clown without makeup. Is he wearing those big shoes?
Good I thought.
However if I were making ads, I think I would simply place a reasonably attractive, intelligent-faced, reptile-brain-soothing voiced, 35-45 y.o. woman, Naomi Watts-ish perhaps – and simply have her speak directly to the viewer a pithy thirty-second distillation of digby’s best.
Although a Zogby poll the same day says Lieberman 53%, Lamont 33%.
EPU’d
Great ad. Joe Liarman is a cancer on the Democratic party and must be defeated, first, for the Dems to have any chance to take back the Senate, and second, so that when he goes on Fox news, he will be a former senator. Heaven help the Dems if Lieberman wins and the senate is split, as he will switch right over to help keep a republican majority in the senate.
Tucker Carlson has this Republican Rep. from Florida prattling on about how we, the U.S. should have prevented N. Korea from getting “the bomb”. And I agree. But Israel’s nuclear arsenal worries me at least as much as N. Korea’s atomic potential. The U.S. did nothing to stop Israel from developing nuclear capability. In fact we helped assorted Israeli governments over the years to get the bomb. I don’t get it.
Well done. Nothing like seeing someone hoisted by his own petard.
The ad is decent. It doesn’t make me gasp with pleasure or anything.
Vulture Breath @
25
New around here, are you?
The ad makes me wonder if Joe hates arguing with someone who knows what they are talking about.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I didn’t think that Joe could look any nerdier than he already does. I was mistaken.
GO NED!
Hi all –
I have arrived at the Beverly Hilton, site of tonight’s PFAW event honoring Green Day and Christine Lahti. Ann so graciously invited me to share the tickets she won from Howie. I just found out they upgraded my lowly room to a SUITE! I feel like Dorothy not in Kansas. But it won’t be ready until 4 p.m.
I brought my dangly earrings that I bought at the Victoria and Albert Museum when I went to London last year, so my ears feel worthy. I have to admit, I’ve got the world’s third ugliest shoes with me. If I have time, I’ll do something about that.
I’ll check in later if anyone wants reports. I can’t wait to see Howie and Jane in person. I feel like a silly fan!

Looking forward to seeing you too, Linda.
Travel day today, so light posting but tonight should be lots of fun.
Looks as if both Iran and North Korea are getting the bomb and neither Clusterfuck nor the dems knows what the hell to do about it.
If Clusterfuck was serious about nuclear proliferation, he would have handled both India and Pakistan much differently.

Woohoo! Party like a rock star with a SUITE! Just talked to Howie, he is nervous so hug him and make him less so. AND JANE.
Darn, it’s so hard, living vicariously through others.
Have a blast, everyone! Get a photo with Amb. Wilson and the Mrs and, and… S W E E T Jane!
Love the Ned spot. If Joe’s old ad were a petard, he would now be hoist on it, would it not? (Hoist in war, hoist in peace, hoist in the minds of…)
Cozumel @ 20
So your point is what? That these are “good guys”?
That these folks did something right “once” like trimming their nosehairs doesn’t make them “good guys”.
They’re serial arsonist pundits who just love starting fires ’cause it gives ‘em woodies.
They don’t get a “pass” in my book. Not now, not ever!
Newshour profiling the Burns-Tester race now.
I haven’t kept up with all of Ned’s ads, but I hope he is running some that lists the positives he will do, and not just how bad Lieberman is. Ned seems to have a good staff, so I’m sure my view is limited to the anti-Joe stuff.
OK Kiddo– that was Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Just a quick perusal of her sponsored and co-sponsored legislation will tell you much. Very anti-Castro tops the list…

Did you know that Trader Vic’s is attached to this hotel? Killing time till my suite is available, I walked down the hallway toward the icon, thinking I’d have a fancy drink at Trader Vic’s just to say I did. The hallway is covered with glam pix of the stars: Sammy Davis, Jr. Frank and Dean and Jerry and Marilyn Monroe, a lovely shot of Elizabeth Taylor, Bogie and Bacall knoodling, Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart.
Alas! Vic’s doesn’t open till 5, but I don’t care. I’m drinking a Starbucks latte in the Beverly Hilton Lobby Bar thinking, sigh, I wanna be the kind of person who drinks latte at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, waiting for my suite and wondering what stars will be out tonight.
And, of course, meditating with all my heart on a Ned Lamont win in a few weeks.
Mad Dogs @ 35
My primary point was Chris Matthews was against invading Iraq. Although it’s constantly, by some, commented here that he was in favor of it.

flipping the script
Evidently, Ned played possum until Joe, himself, said something. That’s why Al waited until the NYT’s article to spring this. Now Joe has to explain why he called Al asking for his support.
The problem with a McCain and Clinton match-up in 2008 is that I am not at all sure Clinton can take him. I think there are several Democrats, other than Hillary, who could wipe the floor with John McCain. And most Democrat presidential hopefuls have a more realistic view on Iraq than does HRC.

Mark your calendar — first post-primary debate between Ned and Joe in Stamford, CT livestream on NBC30.com Monday the 16th. At a chamber luncheon, I believe. Shown locally live at 1pm and rebroadcast at 7pm. Joe apologist Tom Monahan, moderator (you may remember his going in the tank on the primary debate.)
This is merely the warm-up for the prime-time 10/23 in the evening — this one on the ABC affiliate WTNH, with Stephanopolous as moderator. Doubt the network will pick it up, but may be live stream or on CSPAN. Against the local NY Giants v. Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, though — not good for exposure here.
1,299 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Firepups:
Since some a the focus here seems ta be on Mrs. Clinton and her standin’ up for the Big Dog, I jest wanna state that I am VERY uncomfortable that the corporate media are settin’ up a McCain vs. Clinton ‘08 run and givin’ Mrs. Big Dog a lotta bright lights for standin’ up to Senator McWacko. The corporatists who have taken effective control of the Democratic Party are undermining every progressive advance within the party. Is anyone else mad as hell about what Josh Marshall reported this mornin’ about McCurry and Corporal Bonehead sending inside information from the Kerry camp to the Bush operation ON ELECTION NIGHT for God’s sake??!!!
Come on folks…there’s a lot more at stake in Connecticut than jest gettin’ rid of a fascist enabler, we can nail one of Mrs. Clinton’s feet to a progressive Democratic Party if we force her to come down for Ned and take out Lieberman.

It’s Ned in the flesh with Tweety trying to throw him off his game.
I remember the mea culpa the little twerp author of “A Million Little Pieces” had to do for Oprah. Is there no accountability for Lies About The Left?
ACTION REQUIRED IN CALIFORNIA
Since the CT. Primary, Barbara Boxer, who said she’d support the Democratic nominee in CT., has sent me at least 20 emails asking for money to support “progressive” candidates.
However, in none of those mailings has Ned Lamont been mentioned.
She is, by her lack of support for Ned, continuing to support Lieberman, despite her promise to “respect the voters of CT.”
I ask anyone in California to contact Senator Boxer by letter or phone (she’s stopped responding to emails to both her Senate office and her PAC) and DEMAND she get her ass out there and support Ned Lamont. She’s engaging in serious hypocrisy and Beltway insider cronyism, and betraying the party as much as Joe by her lack of support for Mr. Lamont.
I know Jane is from California and some of y’all are too. This is no time to sit on your hands, please contact Senator Boxer and demand she support Mr. Lamont.
I thank you in advance

Hastert meets with critic over scandal
PLANO, Ill. – House Speaker Dennis Hastert met Tuesday with an evangelist who hoped to persuade the Illinois Republican to step down because of the congressional page sex scandal.
Hastert had no comment after the meeting at his home with Christian evangelist K.A. Paul, founder of the Global Peace Initiative.
Paul told The Associated Press he met alone with Hastert for about 30 minutes and prayed with him.
“I am humbled with his humility and simplicity,” Paul said of Hastert.

There are indeed several real Democrats who could take McWacko out in the first round but won’t get the opportunity unless the Democratic Party takes BOTH houses of congress and purges the corporatists from power within the elected leadership.
The Lamont-Lieberman race is pivotal to takin’ back the Senate AND containin’ Mrs. Clinton. I think folks like Sharpton and Feingold and even Al Gore should come on down for Lamont and shame the Big Dog into comin’ out for Ned.
These folks need ta use Lieberman’s blatant race baiting to force progressive Jewish folks out a the closet and onta the bus ta run ol’ Joe down.
KEEP THE FAITH AND KEEP YER EYES OPEN…THERE’S A LOTTA BAD GUYS OUT THERE!!!
GPB,
I agree, this is what I have refered to as “letterhead endorsement.”
I am puzzled at the gamble Democratic leaders are taking with Joe. They do not want him anywhere near a deciding vote in Senate make-up. His decision, obviously, will be based on what is best for his party of one. Everything he has done up to this point in his life points to this fact.
It makes me seriously question the judgement of those willing to bet against these odds. Some really crazy shit.

The rate of fall in gasoline prices continues to slow. In oil, there is an attempt to bid down the market. Choose your reason: warmer winter forecast or doubts about proposed OPEC production cuts. I don’t really believe either. El Nino effects have been known for weeks although they got a lot of play on the news today. OPEC cuts you believe when you see the actual effects in the market. The one certainty is that winter will come and, even if it is milder, heating oil will still be needed so there will be a related upward pressure on gasoline prices. As for oil prices, this is a sideways market and so the bottom will be tested from time to time until something happens, like cold weather or a war.

Ned did fine on Tweety, in spite of his attempts to paint Lamont as a warmonger of Liebermanian proportions.
I dunno, it seemed like Tweety’s heart really wasn’t into it this time. Maybe he wants to see Joe go.
I wonder what the Republican Senators would offer Joe to support continued Republican majority of the Senate, thereby avoiding investigations, subpoenas, possible indictements and maybe even jail time.
What would it be worth to them to stay rich and free? Could the Democrats come close to offering Joe any such inducements to “do the right thing?”
What is going on with the thinking of Chuck Schumer?

new thread friends.
Connecticut Bob @ 99
I think Ned was smart tonight. He made all the points he needed to make, especially the point about Iraq and the Bush policies making Israel less safe. That’s a key point for him to make on national tv. Ned then stayed away from claiming Lieberman played the race card wrt to Sharpton, but Ned didn’t have to make that point. Matthews made it for him, and Sharpton is carrying that issue directly, suggesting that Lieberman was hypocritical in asking him for support first, then implying that Sharpton’s support for Ned made Ned less supportive of Israel. Ned just explained the facts: Lieberman wanted Sharpton’s support, but Al supported Lamont.
They thought this through and each man did what he needed to do. Lieberman got criticized re hurting Israel, being hypocritical and being racist,, and Ned stayed above it. This was well done.
Agh, what an evening!!
LindaR, I hope you and Jane have an incredible time — regale us with marvelous tales afterwards!!
For you Green Day freaks, I hope you have the time of your life, too, even if you can’t be there with LindaR and Jane and Howie and the Wilsons tonight.
I think I have the other end of the spectrum covered though; cosmically speaking, you folks should be good to party. Had a car accident tonight, ended up not making it to the phonebank; little old 80-year-old man who looked like he might be terminally ill (jaundiced, massive bruising under the skin of his hand, trembling) failed to yield and hit me with his damned Corvette. (Yeah, a Corvette, for crying out loud…)
He begged me not to call the cops because his license was already suspended and would probably be arrested, actually tried to get in my car to ask me not to call although I was already on the cell phone. He drove off, leaving the scene of the accident, dragging chunks of his front end with him.
Fortunately I had a witness who was kind enough to stick around and even chased the old guy to try and get his license plate number (which I was too rattled to get, should have been priority number one). The witness said the old guy actually told him he’d just been in the adjacent store to get a f*cking firearm license for deer season.
Yeah, my car looks like sh*t, I have no signals now and my passenger door is shot along with passenger side bumper. But this old guy getting arrested tonight will probably keep him from shooting somebody this deer season. Sheesh.
What a night already, and the party on the west coast hasn’t even started!!
wow, Rayne, that’s quite a saga. hope you didn’t get hurt. what a schmuck.
(Corvette? are you sure it wasn’t a little old lady from Pasadena?)
Rayne,
Are you OK?
Keith doing a special spot on habeas. Tune in if you can.
punaise — my life is like a soap opera lately, let me tell you.
Not hurt, thanks for asking; I was only doing about 30 mph and I braked and swerved away as he pulled into me. My belt was enough — but I wonder that the airbag didn’t deploy. I’m going to have it checked when they do the repair work on my car.
I’m torn between wanting to rant and rave about the guy and simply scratch my head. He was not well; if I had to guess, I’d say he had cancer, based on the bruising and the flat, yellow skin color. He may be on a lot of meds. I was more concerned that a guy who’d had his license suspended, obviously couldn’t see me, was issued a hunting license for a firearm. Jeepers!!
Definitely not Pasadena. Unless they hunt whitetail there next month…
Going to KO now, tks for the heads up.
