Reuters' loss is our gain. We're pleased to announce that Joe Maguire, author of Brainless: The Lies and Lunacy of Ann Coulter, will be our guest here on Sunday, October 22 for the FDL Book Salon.
Joe's book started at #109,000 on Amazon yesterday and by the end of the day made it to #56, so many thanks to everyone who bought it. We're looking forward to hearing Joe tell his story of liberation from gainful employment following delivery of a manuscript that Reuters well knew he was working on, as well as the many showers he took as he made his way page by painful page through all of Coulter's books.
Because there are so many books out there that we want to get to and so few Sundays we're also going to be changing the Book Salon format to one week per book (we were just turning down too many great books). Which also means more guest posters at the Book Salon, so we can do justice to them all. Our host for the Brainless book salon will be our own TRex, who delights in trolling for all manner of Coulter arcana as he watches for signs of her impending meltdown.

Joe!
This is going to be a fun one.
Leisure Guy!
Two in a row!
Nice catch!
I will be owning a copy of this.
And Trex hosting? BRILLIANT!!
oh my word– this is gonna smoke ‘em all out of their hidey holes!
The mods must have extra special intestinal fortitude for this session.
Congrats to FDL!
“We’re looking forward to hearing Joe tell his story of liberation from gainful employment following delivery of a manuscript that Reuters well knew he was working on, as well as the many showers he took as he made his way page by painful page through all of Coulter’s books.”
LMAO.
Joe is turning a crisis into an opportunity.
The book has a picture of Coulter on the cover — doncha think some of the more, er, repressed winguts will buy it just for their “collection?” I say hawk it at Red State and see if it will go into the top twenty!
What I want to know is how you could stand reading and listening to her long enough to write the book. She is a walking toxic waste site.
Susan Estrich has also come out with a book on Ann– Soulless.

click on the link and see the cover– stunning.
A trusted friend recommended this book to me for the FDL Book Salon:
“The European Dream” By Jeremy Rifkin
Booklist sez:
I had the pleasure of listening to ann last nite
I can’t believe she has an audience, her voice is like nails against a blackboard
her and thay guy mark lehVIN or something like that
did someone castrate that guy?…that’s the only think I can think to excuse that voice
how do people listen to this and how do these people get work?
angie @ 10
Damn, that black dress is getting a lot of mileage…
Aside from her role as a talking head for the right-wing propaganda machine, who is Anne Coulter? Nobody. Nobody at all.
So why would Reuters claim that Joe Maguire would need to be “impartial” regarding this non-person? She’s not an elected representative or even an actual person of consequence - she’s merely a figurehead.
If Reuters were not itself a willing agent of the right-wing propaganda machine, it would have welcomed an illuminating analysis of the lies and hyperbole employed by Coulter in her role as a right-wing mouthpiece.
I congratulate Mr. Maguire on his book and salute his willingness to face unemployment in order to fulfill his role as a journalist. Courage is facing into the storm, and he’s shown he’s willing to do that.
Reuters not only tipped its hand again as partisan tool of the Right, but hopefully their knee-jerk reaction will end up boosting sales tremendously.
I hope that TRex can find a hazmat suit big enough for a 60 foot theropod. I wouldn’t advise touching anything to do with “that woman” without one.
Heh. Ann’s going to join a prestigious sorority, including Ole 60 Grit O’Beirne and Babs Comstock.
The possibilities are mind-boggling, but I’ll leave the boggled mind to Annie and the rest of her coven (no offense meant to my Wiccan friends).
By the way, FirePups, I’m trying out a little experiment at DailyKos; call it matchmaking between progressives who need and progressive that have. Try it and let me know if you think it could work as a daily diary item. Thanks!!
p.s. TRex, I hope you’re getting those theropodian nails manicured for the occasion!!
Like Colbert, Ann Coulter plays a character. I wonder whether the depravity of her role ever gets her down.
Susan in Iowa @ 17
No, because unlike Colbert, she’s every bit as depraved as the character she plays.
Someone buy that woman a new dress. And a sandwich.

Froomkin’s latest included this transcript from Sunday’s Meet the Press about our Vice-President, Dick

and some breathmints
From Abovethelaw, Jon Stewart on mAnn:
I actually feel sorry for her. Once your career is based on denigrating 9/11 widows, what’s your second act? Unless you dig up Mother Teresa and stick a dildo in her eye, nothing could be more offensive.
OT: just got this email from Lamont campaign with the new ad
(sorry if it’s already been posted)
Wow, great spanking material for Jonah and the 101st Chairborne pajama warriors!
Al kicking butt on Tucker.
Lieberman is getting trashed beautifully.
Now he’s on to Barbra and her brilliance last nite.
Sharpton: I’m an advisor to Joe Lieberman– I am telling him to retire.
angie @ 26
Al said that?
Joe, fuhgeddabouddit!
:-)
Ya know, the only thing I ever want to read about that bitch again, is her obituary.
MSIRT From NY13 Blog
Apparently, many Republicans are running as independents these days. Perhaps a roll call of Gopers who don’t use the word Republican is in order. Is it happening in your district?
Matthews kicking the shit out of Hastert.
Tweety, “why don’t you just pick up the phone and ask them.”
Tweety: “Three words could bury Republicans this Fall, Iraq, Bush, Foley.”
Tweety is a fart in the wind. he advocates whoever has the whip hand.
Dr. Bong @ 22
My teens want to know what’s so funny.
I’m not telling them!
And to think, I know people who kind of excuse A.C. Brrr.
Does the pic of Ann on the front cover remind anyone else of a puffy coke whore?
Just wonderin…
Guitar, Tweety was complicit with Russert and many others wrt getting us into Iraq and a whole range of other issues.
Since FDL and others started holding him accountable, imo, he has been terrific on Plamegate and Iraq.
We desperately need Tweety to win both houses in November. His coverage of Ned has also has been very good.
OT, Viqueira picked up on Hastert holding his PC in front of a GRAVEYARD.
John McCain has, according to Ed Shultz, been out blaming Clinton because he appeased NK during his time in office. Ed says the Dems have to respond to this immediately and so does BC. He also says (Ed) that the R’s are going to use this and say that if the Dems get back in power NK will nuke us.
whoopsies– but who dressed David Shuster this morning and did I miss the new fashion trend?
I loved his shots of Denny with his glasses askew and the spittle in the right corner of his maw and the ones from the ground up…
pretty good videography to go along with his reporting.

John,
How so?
John Casper @ 34
What’s the betting that Tweety will pick up on what McCain has been saying today and use it against us? Tweety idolizes McCain.
angie @ 36
then there’s this outfit
Whistling past the graveyard is hard work…
jinny @ 35
From NBC’s Ken Strickland: Hillary has already answered that.
CARLSON: Yeah. I mean, I like John Warner, of course, and I respect him, but you know, more than three years after the invasion, only now coming to this conclusion? I think all of us are complicit in this war because the ideas behind the war, the ideological underpinning of the war is wrong. The idea that the Middle East needs democracy to be better off, all of us bought into that and that itself is a lie…
MATTHEWS: Not all of us, Tucker.
CARLSON: I didn’t. You didn’t. But the people who did aren’t apologizing for it. Instead of pretending it’s somehow Rumsfeld’s fault for mismanaging it, the problem is deeper than that.

jinny @ 39
I very much doubt that Tweety will go there and besides that, it’s not true. Clinton’s North Korea expert, Wendy Sherman was on Olbermann killing Bush on North Korea.
My guess is McCain is responding to her.
Is this a great country or what! What may finally do the Republicans in is a sex scandal. Not the death, destruction and chaos brought about by the Bush administration worldwide over the last six years. Not the fact that the Republicans are bringing us to the brink of nuclear war. Not that the Bush people are responsible for adding millions more poor folks to the below poverty rolls. Not the fact we have much dirtier air and water than we did before 2000. Too much.
ot
mccain is blaming clinton for the atomic test in north korea
took them long enough, didn’t it?
oops, I see I’m late with that, please delete

Holy shit. That actually came out of their mouths?
commercial for Tweety’s show in between segments was gross. Pimping the college tour it was Tweety attacking one dem after another, no repigs (just saw that on a thread last night and loved it). Made me angry, yet again.
Right now Tweety is going after Denny & co. only because he sees which way the wind is blowing. If there is a change of direction, he will be the first to pile on the dems, yet again.
Barf.
Cozumel @ 38
According to emptywheel, both Russert and Matthews testified before Fitz’s sgj. As journalists, their responsibility is to inform us. That means both should state publicly what they told the sgj. Neither have done that (and I suspect that will be some of the juiciest stuff in emptywheel’s book). If they would have come out and supported Joe Wilson, when he wrote his op-ed, maybe they, along with an equally complicit NYT’s and WaPo, could have kept us out of the war, or been more on top of the failures in Iraq sooner.
OT, Ned is coming up on Tweety, next segment.

Dru @ 41
heh…
and punaise @ 40, that watertiger pic should have included a spew warning! she is simply amazing, eh?
Ned on Hardball!
Ned is just terrific on Hardball.
Staccato bursts from the Lamont cannon are just so effective.
Hitting hard on the lack of diplomacy… and the sabre rattling by Lieberman et al.
No know
Just more evidence that Rueters is part of the gov’t lackeys. Similar to Amazon (and Wiki) who removed the book “America Deceived” at gov’t request. Or BYU who removed 21 year tenured physics professor Stephen Jones because he proved explosives, thermite in particular, brought down the WTC buildings. Censorship rears its ugly head again.
Be defiant, support indy media.

Yeah, but he brings some valid points in too… and people listen to him. When he says that he was an executive assistant to Speaker Tip O’Neil and that it was his job to know about things like the Foley e-mails and be damn certain that the Speaker knew about them fast and accurately, he points a damning finger at Hastert. **edit** was that Russert instead? I think I had a brain fart but I’ll let it ride. Too lazy to stop and look, heh.
Once in a while he says what he thinks. Actually, watching the talk shows last Sunday was remarkable, because all the panels seemed to accept failure in Iraq as a fait accompli. They sat and talked about how the Republicans would do a pullback to something resembling the Murtha/Kerry plans after the election.
How cynical is that “cut and run” line when that’s the cool plan?
Cut the bitch’s throat and run!
Amazon has run out of the book! They didnt order enough of them. Thats so great.
Bustednuckles @ 21
The Devil, or Richard Mellon Scaife (I always get the two of them confused), already bought her soul.
