Drugs have always been a thing in American culture — pot, especially has been associated with the high school set. Although I hear, its stock may be going down with the kids.
Funny how some drugs fall in and out of favor. NPR had a report on high school freshmen smoking less pot but popping more pills, mostly painkillers. So much easier and safer to score on-line then driving down to the hood. Waiting for your man is actually waiting for your Fed Ex man these days. Finally watched Walk The Line the other night. Those rockabilly boys sure liked their bop pills, which have been replaced by crystal meth in the poor white folk world.
I love how Rock Hudson mentions acid twice in the YouTube clip above. Does anyone take acid anymore? The song sings about the good old days when people were not getting high on drugs, yet in the real good old days laudanum, cocaine, opium and absinthe were all "over the counter".

Go here for latest spin from Shimkus
http://www.bradenton.com/mld/b…..691105.htm
Shimkius goes to Foley, hears his excuse (in 2005) and . . .
I think he should keep his fingers off the books too.
Great playlist this week Donita. Cool side note here, my nephew is dating a girl whose uncle is Les Paul.
My Spin this week: 70s era Motown, psychedelic era. I saw Wa Wa Watson sit in with Paul Schaeffer on the Late Show with David Letterman earlier this week and it made me drag out my old Motown favs he played on. All the Marvin Gaye stuff, Isaac Hayes and all those acts he played for between 70-76. Great era for Motown, but right before it all went to hell for Berry Gordy.
And Shimkus, who already knows that the e-mail looks like something from a sexual predator:
does what? Apparently it was Foley who replied to Shimkus in 2005:
and Shimkus just tries to explain why, to this apparent predator:
And the result of this friendly chat with a putative predator of children?

I saw Love and Rockets open for Jane’s Addiction at the Wiltern. Both bands were great.
Hey gang, just an FYI unrelated to topic –
Rumor has it that Google is in talks to buy YouTube. Personally, I’m okay with this; there could be far worse outcomes.
But if this deal came to pass, they’d need time to unwind YouTube off its current architecture and onto Google’s; they would probably institute a freeze on new accounts for a period of time until the architecture was migrated.
If you don’t have an account and you think you might want one — either to track favorite videos, comment on videos, or to upload your own — you should open an account right now.
/public_service_announcment
OMFG
It seems every YouTube trainwreck of legend includes Bea Arthur. I quit the YouTube Wars after Atrios hit me with Bea in a Star Wars Holiday Soecial as a galactic bartender.
Jeebus, that clip is horrible, and yet, perversely awesome.
Absolutely love Les Paul and Mary Ford. No matter what they did. But don’t forget the Patti Page (”the Oklahoma Rage”) rendition of “Mocking Bird Hill”. Just had to say that.
Pachacutec @
8
I saw that when he did that to you. I thought it was a bit out of line, nobody deserves to be Bea Arthur’d like that. NOBODY. I wouldn’t even do that to Hastert or Foley.
Fini FiniTOOBZ! @ 10
couldn’t be any worse than William Shatner talk-singing “Rocket Man” melodramtically, smoke in hand…
Rayne @ 7
Very useful info. Youtube is my favorite thing on the internet. I hope it only changes for the better.
I was hoping there would be a place today where I could spotlight this (via CNN):
“WASHINGTON, (Reuters) — Good news for aging hippies: Smoking pot may stave off Alzheimer’s disease.
New research shows that the active ingredient in marijuana may prevent the progression of the disease by preserving levels of an important neurotransmitter that allows the brain to function.”
Hmm, let’s see, glaucoma, chemotherapy side effects, now Alzheimers?! No wonder the kids aren’t smoking pot anymore; they think it’s for old people.
I have a Les Paul & Mary Ford album. If any of you get a chance to listen to them (even if only once) you should.
I don’t know whether they used anything to speed up their turntable, but man were they wired. Go cats go!
Shimkus knew damned well that these were not just “naughty e-mails.” He knew that the e-mails themselves, not just the recently revealed IMs, were incriminating and a danger sign showing the Foley was seeking sexual gratification:
Hmmm. And “the Speaker asked me to do this”? And he did so because he knew that Shimkus had been a “teacher” (who knows when children are at risk) and because he knew that Foley needed to be disciplined?
So Hastert knew that the e-mails showed a problem?
Can Shimkus actually be saying that the Speaker knew then?
But having said that he was asked to confront Foley in 2005 (I think) by the speaker, because he was a (former) teacher and (former) disciplinarian, he then backtracks and says that the e-mails didn’t alert him to anything:
and it goes on.
Shimkus is an idiot for having such a relaxed conversation with the reporter for the Bradenton News-Democrat (didn’t he see the title of the newspaper?!), and the reporter is smooth and good for getting Shimkus to open up.
Toast.
toast.
I’m saddened that it took a sex scandal for the media to finally shine a light on the infestation of Gopers that failed to prevent 9/11, lied us into a senseless war, ratified Bush as a de Facto Dicktater, and left New Orleans to rot like a third world backwater.
(Note that Bush finally used the term “Unitary Executive” in his most recent signing statement.)
It is beneficial and cathartic for us to see the other side squirm and stammer in their discomforture and scandal. It’s a great feeling to stare at the media with rank contempt and shout “WE TOLD YOU SO AND YOU CALLED US TRAITORS!” The media can’t be called sharks in their current feeding frenzy because they seem like pigs, wallowing all over each other for their scraps.
Over the next few news cycles we will see a parade of the Congressman’s victims, and the brownshirts are already circulating “lists” of all the gays among the Gopers.
I’m left with the bad taste that when the victims are spolighted they are victimized yet again.
MarkH @ 14
I had a party last week and was playing Les and Mary. Three people asked for a copy. I play them around the pad all the time. I saw Les Paul play in NYC last year as well. At NINETY still sounding cool.
Donita
hilarious clip today. I just love your sensibility. I just went back at looked at some of your early ones. great stuff! thanks ;-)
punaise @ 11
As bad as that William Shatner piece is I personally think we are comparing apples and oranges. The Bea Arthur piece in question was incredibly bad. The bad puns were so frequent they were coming in like Howitzer rockets out Arthur’s mouth.
Its a bit like comparing mass murders by nuclear or chemical weapons. Bea Arthur would be the nuke whereas Shatner would be the chemical weapon.

hi donita!
my condolences to your friend; that sucks.
that rock hudson/bea arthur video is amazing! a very good friend of mine sent it to me awhile ago and i still occasionally have to watch it for a chuckle! i love the fact that they’re singing about the drug-free good ole days, as their sipping on their cocktails! that’s one drug that will never go out-of-style!
fabulous playlist as always!
Fini FiniTOOBZ! @ 19
What is wrong with you guys? I’ll take Bea and Shatner over most of our oversing-ing lame pop stars of today.
The Anchorage Daily News printed my letter to the editor in less than a week for a change. Re Hastert/Foley:
Young should call for suspension and investigation of page program
As a constituent and parent planning on having my son go to Washington, D.C., in the spring as part of the Close-Up program, I find it appalling that, days after Rep. Don Young’s friend Rep. Mark Foley resigned for abusing young pages, Rep. Young is still soliciting kids and their parents to apply for entry to the program.
I call upon Rep. Young, whom I have supported many times in the past, to immediately request an independent prosecutor in this matter and to suspend the page program until the investigation is concluded and reforms put in place. I also hope Young has the courage to call for the resignation of all U.S. House representatives, whatever their political affiliation, who failed to act appropriately in this sad affair.

Donita Sparks #12 — I’m speculating, especially since the deal is still very nebulous.
But when Google acquired Writely.com, it took about 6 months for them to wind Writely off/on and re-open to new accounts. Folks with existing accounts could continue to work in Writely, but no new accounts permitted during that time.
Would hate to see FirePups miss out if they could take a simple preemptive move and get an account now; can’t hurt, might help.
FiniFini — oh, the Shatner thing was spectacularly bad, ruined a perfectly good song. I can’t think of Elton John’s Rocket Man without seeing that cigarette-puffing-tuxedoed-hairpiece-support system. Bea Arthur only conjures up mediocre television.
Donita Sparks @ 21
It was great, he was sitting in with the CBS Orchestra (hehe) so they kept playing these great old soul cuts he did from that era as they would go to and from commercial the night he was on. I think it was Tuesday night. I was impressed that Schaeffer would have an old soul guy like that on to sit in with the band, it was pretty cool.
I dug this up last night in Late Nate, as a commentary on Don Imus:
prIMUS – My Name is Mud
(great syncopated bass line)
I’ve been pulling “Cover-up” records this week, but I’m always willing to pile onto a theme. I want to thank Donita for driving my listening for the coming weekend…
The spin I’m in – ‘Gotta Cough to Get Off’ edition
“The Fuzz” – Dianne & Carole and the Latin Whatchamacallits (”don’t let the fuzz catch you dealin’…”)
“Waiting for Dave” – Cheech & Chong (my wife hates this skit. She’s never been into weed, either).
“light another” – Cypress Hill. “…stop coughing/you’re wasting the lingo.”
“Love Potion Cheeba Cheeba” – Mighty Tom Cats (this is a George Benson/Paul Winley project from the 70s. Deliciously funky).
OK, ignore what I said about the Speaker. It appears that Shimkus meant that the Speaker asked him to take on the job of being on the Page Board, not the job of handling Foley.
Also, the newspaper is the Belleville News-Democrat, not Bradenton.
But the rest of the points are still valid and revealing.
Shimkus was asked to be on the Page Board because he has experience with kids as a teacher and yet what does he do when confronted with e-mails asking for a picture (which he recognizes is a warning sign)?
http://www.bradenton.com/mld/b…..691105.htm
So imagine you are a teacher, and a parent comes to you and says that another teacher is sending e-mails to one of the just-graduated students asking for pictures, etc., but the parent says that they don’t want their son’s name to get out.
You just chat with the other teacher and tell him not to contact that former student without worrying about the fact that the teacher is continuing to be best buddies with the current crop of students?
You have got to be kidding me.
Is Shimkus a doofus for revealing all this?
Fini FiniTOOBZ! @ 26
I’ve seen Junior Brown on there a few times. I dig Paul
I can well remember when “Virtual Reality” came in sugar cubes. At age 52 I would love to go up once or twice again to tie up some pan-dimensional loose ends. My son, Conspiracy Secretary has told me that there is a thriving acid underground among the 16-30 set (that is also very spiritually oriented) and he’s said that he’s looking for a couple of hits of “white fluff” which is said to rival the original “25.”
A journey during the Spring Equinox would be superb indeed…
Looks like Shimkus and his cohorts were running a rogue version of the Page Board, and operating outside of standard operating proceedures.
Will someone PLEASE ask these jokers why they did not want these warnings to Foley documented in offical Page Board records, through proper channels, and with a paper trail?
Ah, ‘Rhubarb Red’…Only one better for me, and that’s Lenny Breau.

As much as I agree with you that today’s pop stars are in serious need of a head transplant operation and/or at minimum vocal lessons, I must quote the following for WHY I consider Arthur/Shatner as a threat to our culture:
Rayne @ 25
See the thing is, Jessica Simpson may be horrifyingly bad as a singer, but she doesn’t ruin perfectly good songs previously recorded by fantastic musicians, ruining the song for people in the process. Arthur/Shatner types ALWAYS use cover material and manage to ruin the song for people in the process. I had a lot of tunes ruined for me this way in the 70s with all the bad holiday specials.

best music to listen to while on Peruvian torch cactus: Fela Kuti
trust.
i love bea arthur! i’m dyin’ to see this video of her in a star wars skit!
Wasn’t Mary Ford among the first multi-tracked singers (if not THE first)? Again thanks to Les’s innovativeness.
I like “The World Is Waiting For the Sunrise” best. But all her vocals are great. Soulful restraint in “Vaya Con Dios” and “You Belong To Me” (nobody conjures up all the world-traveling imagery of that song for me like Mary’s rendition).
And Shimkus knew that the children brought to the Capitol are at risk?
Yet, faced with evidence of some risk from Member of Congress (Foley), he did nothing except talk to the guy who is asking for pictures of one of the kids,
Of course not. No curiosity at all:

Shimkus has a lawyer:

OH HELL NO. I had no knowledge of a Weather Report boxset. I am hitting Amazon.com right now to order mine. My mornings before 2nd and 3rd grade included a daily dose of Birdland courtesy of my older brother Kevin before we would get in the car and he would drop me off at school. Yeah, I had an interesting childhood musically.

or are they thinking they can take it out for a drive only to ‘the base’, fundraisers, etc ?

Your friend that lost the pot plants was lucky — if the smell was strong enough to let the thieves “follow their noses” to the plants — a neighbor with a grudge could easily have called the cops on him (even if it’s for medical use)
It’s really stupid to have something that illegal out in the open for everyone too see — if the cops got called to someone else’s backyard (or something happened in his own while he was away) then he would have gotten busted as well, and a drug conviction would keep him from getting any decent jobs (if that’s important to him — some people are self-employed)
Tell your friend that he is lucky to have gotten off so easily, and grow it in some hydroponic system inside with charcoal filters for the odor or something. (Not enough to get busted by the power consumption, though) Either that or they should be out in the wild somewhere where they can’t be connected with him at all.
I haven’t done anything like that myself but I think it’s very dangerous to have drugs out in the open like that in our police-state type society. The punishments end up far out of line with the offenses.
FiniFini — although I must tell you that Simpson’s “Public Affair” comes perilously close to doing the same to Madonna’s “Holiday” for me.
Ugh.

I would have to say it simply doesn’t get any better than the LP MF interp of “Vaya Con Dios”. And as for “You Belong To Me”, oh, wow!!! This tune is haunting.

OT – though bits connect. I just saw on Raw the video of the Columbia Univ students who rushed the stage there speaking on the anti-immigrant Minutemen there to speak. It was also covered by MSM. I had been wondering where the student protests were. Maybe now, as in the early “pot” era, it will all begin at Columbia. Also, anyone notice that at least in High Schools, skirts are very short again. Shades of 60s….
Don’t know anything about growin dope- not a farmin bone in my body- but interesting new polls out from Gallup on senate races.
When you combine the new gallup polls with the latest polls available in the close senate races- you get:
Penn-dems up 12 (put this one in the fridge)
Rhode Island- dems up 10- big jump from previous polling
Ohio- dem up 8
Montana- dem up 4
Missouri- dem up 3
Tenn- dem up 5
In the one close race for a dem held seat- dem leads by three in NJ
So- by the skin of their asses- dems now lead in states that would give them the six seats they need to take control.
Missouri continues to be painfully close as does New Jersey- so those are places to send some money.
And on Speaking back to power – and how it is playing (very positive)
Clinton
K.O.
Nancy Pelosi
Howard Dean
Rosie O’Donnell (ag. Elizabeth on the View)
Barbara S. (songstress, now back from retirement)
There are more. Let’s celebrate them!
Oh yeah- and Virginia remains close with Allen leading by only three.
Dems could take as many as seven seats.
I love Chet Baker’s voice.

I just don’t know why they mashed it up with a Nine Inch Nails video.
Those rockabilly boys sure liked their bop pills, which have been replaced by crystal meth in the poor white folk world. … The song sings about the good old days when people were not getting high on drugs, yet in the real good old days laudanum, cocaine, opium and absinthe were all “over the counter”.
And heroin didn’t boom until people’s access to the milder opiate derivates was curbed by law.
For their own good, you understand.
There is a pervasive dynamic of drugs such that when mild drugs are banned, what the black market produces are then the most powerful and concentrated alternatives available. Opium tonics gave way to heroin. Dexedrine was displaced by meth. And during Prohibition, wine and beer were pushed out by the hardest of spirits: super-high-proof whiskies and gin.
The incentive to smugglers and covert distributors is obvious: smaller and more easily concealed shipments.
It is of a certainty that at some point, the unending, Javert-like obsession of the federal government with suppressing the cannabis trade will spur the introduction of some synthetic successor to plant THC. One which will probably have hideous side effects, induce genuine physical addiction, produce wrenching medical and criminal sequelae, and then, of course, require even greater obsession with putting it down.

Clusterfuck’s JARs have apparently reversed course and he is headed down again.
His current performances are directed at his “base”- which means that he is alienating people left and right in blue and purple states in order to grab hold of the gooper gothics in the red states. You can see the result of this in some of the state by state polling- gooper improving a bit in Montana- but goopers in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania goin down for the count.

I don’t do drugs anymore, strictly a coffee and cigarettes man these days and trying to lay the groundwork to put the cigarettes down, but there was a time when I was the Trip Doctor in Athens. People would come to my house when their trips went bad. I would run them a bath and make my famous Comedown Punch.
Comedown Punch
1 doz. fresh limes
1 qt. (or so) of water
2/3 cup sugar
1 fifth good vodka
Pour sugar into bottom of a large pitcher, melt with just enough warm water to make the sugar liquid. Juice twelve limes into sugar-water mixture. Add vodka, then top with cold water to taste. Serve cold over ice with ten mgs. of valium.
Results guaranteed.

On a serious note, the prescription drug thing with teens now is scary. I talk with my kids about it all the time. Im probably one of the few parents who talk to their kids about the distance between the “effective” dose of a drug and the toxic/fatal dose–the point being that these engineered drugs effective dose is often very close to the toxic dose.
Not all “drugs” carry the same risk. Every try to OD on weed? I have, frequently, but always seem to wake up in the morning….
Fini FiniTOOBZ! @ 83

Vodka with valium is bad, bad karma, man. It creeps and sneaks and you wake up Karen Ann Quinlan.
But kudos to you for giving the wayward a place to crash softly – the bathtub can be a saving grace, so long as there are enough sound-absorption materials to keep the sonics down.

The limes and sugar are really for deliciousness, although some people will tell you that vitamin C is good for visuals when you’re tripping. I just found that the wonderful sourness of it cuts right through that pasty acid-mouth feeling and leaves you feeling refreshed and not quite so debilitated. Also, you can barely taste the alcohol so it goes down very smooth.
The valium is more of a garnish, really. You can skip it if you want to say, stay awake.
And yes, it is perfectly good to serve sans hallucinogens. It was just one of those things that I came up with on the spur of the moment one night and everybody liked it so much that it became a kind of tradition.
Once again, Neil nails it with just a couple of lines:
“Think I’ll roll another number for the road,
I feel able to get under any load.”
(Roll Another Number, Neil Young)
And all this talk of limes, vodka, etc., I’ll see ya’ll later, the blender and Jose Cuervo are a callin’ me.
ah Rayne,
reminds me of one of my fave quotes:
Ruby Tuesday @ 70
As filtered through an all-star drug jam…No matter what though, Barncard’s engineering puts you right there.
I wonder who they are
The men who really run this land
And I wonder why they run it
With such a thoughtless hand
Well there it is. The problem with politics is gays. And the problem with liberals is we took too many drugs in our formative years.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 100
No, the conservatives just didn’t take enough.
mc @ 97
I don’t take Jose Cuervo’s calls anymore. We used to hang out every weekend but the last time he called it was collect and I woke up far from home and surrounded by strangers with no friends in sight and no way to get home.
o/t yeah, what’s new

Buh-duh buh [rimshot]. Ladies and gentlemen, Punaise! Don’t forget to catch his second show at 9pm!
Wanted to give a thumbs-up here for Salon Magazine; I know many folks aren’t happy with the subscription model, but I must say I get my money’s worth out of it.
As a premium, I get free subscriptions to magazines so I can try them out (discovered I love New York Review of Books this way, along with Greenlight – not so much on the vichy-like The New Republic, which saves me money to know).
But the Daily Download is awesome, can try out a wide range of music without making any commitments. This past week’s dowloads:
Exclusive Daily Download: “Give All to Love,” Niobe
Posted: Fri, 06 Oct 2006 00:01:00 PDT
An exclusive free download from Germany’s mysterious Niobe.
Daily Download: “Blue Light Room,” Tara Jane O’Neil

A gorgeous, swaying, lazy-day country music waltz
Daily Download: “Pass the Hatchet, I Think I’m Goodkind,” Yo La Tengo
Posted: Wed, 04 Oct 2006 00:01:00 PDT
Yo La Tengo proves us wrong
Daily Download: “Sex & Mayhem,” Devastations
Posted: Tue, 03 Oct 2006 00:01:00 PDT
Nick Cave meets unabashed pop.
Exclusive Daily Download: “Exotic Forest,” Sun Ra
Posted: Mon, 02 Oct 2006 00:01:00 PDT
Music from Sun Ra’s “Nothing Is” — an exclusive free download
Exclusive Daily Download: “Get Over Yrself,” Oxygen Ponies
Posted: Fri, 29 Sep 2006 00:01:00 PDT

Daily Download: “I’ve Got You,” the Damnwells

Pop-oriented alt-rock that hits all the right buttons
Not much here that I wouldn’t listen to multiple times, depending on the occasion. Worth the subscription price to access all of this sans ads along with the other premiums that Salon offers.
Nope, I receive no compensation from Salon for this plug.
PUNAISE!!
The great HILARIO!!
He’ll BE HERE ALL WEEK!
…and trying to lay the groundwork to put the cigarettes down…
Ah, the most honest of all addictions.
Two keys to kicking it:
- If you can go for seven straight days without lighting up, you can quit forever.
- Parallel lifestyle changes – start exercising, biking, running, pilates, yoga, anything that makes you sweat it out (yeah, okay, y’all get your minds back on topic) You simply must find something else to do with your hands to substitute lighting up. I carried the springy things the guitar players use to strengthen their hands – if I felt like lighting up, I just squeezed the crap out of one of theose things for awhile. I had a death-grip by the time I quit.
Last thing, just a bonus: throw the money you would’ve spent on smokes in a jar. Jar gets full, go splurge – its a great gift to yourself, or to someone you love.

sigh: work intercedes. I have to go deal with a public agency (local building dept.) on a Friday afternoon. the enthusiasm is palpable. catch y’all later – try the veal!
TREX #104 — OMIGOD!!! HE KISSED THAT P*SSY ON VIDEO??? THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!!!
Heh.
cbl #97 — damn, that is a good quote, used to be a big Chopra freak too and I don’t remember hearing that one.
OOH I remembered that I specifically wanted to draw attention to another Letterman guest this week today during the Spin, you all need to check out the video from Brazilian Girls for their song Don’t Stop from their website.
Here’s the deal– Gooper head of the senate armed services committee comes back from Iraq and says that it’s a fucked up mess and that congress is goin ta have to do somethin radical ta change it. Economy is threatening to do a recession dive again.
The president of the United States- GW Clusterfuck- is out givin lyin boring speeches day after day in hopes of holding on to power.
Idea:
What if the fucker stayed in the fuckin White House and did his fuckin job and found out why in the hell everything is fucked up on his watch and what he oughta do about it? Would THAT work?
Cigarettes?
Only way I know is to prepare yourself for 60 days of HELL and stock up on nicotine gum- I prefer the safeway brand in the 4mg size (if they had 10mg I’d use it). The patch? ferget about it– might as well put a band aid on yer ass.
rwcole @ 116
Sadly, probably not.
I just can’t get Rufus Wainwright’s “Cigarettes and chocolate milk” out of my head today.
This just in. Ralston resigns.

OT – Sorry but when something makes me smile these days, I report — you decide.
Kos has another ad up by the Nebraska cowboy Kleeb (used to ride bulls in the rodeo) and there is some serious swooning going on over there. :)
He is currently tied (candidates own poll) with his opponent. But man oh man would he dress up D.C. He is a good man too. Conservative but it is Nebraska.
Sorry – old ladies’ good thoughts today. Who knew a video of a young man riding a horse would make me all atwitter. Must be the horse. :)
Balrog @

Gawd, what took her so freakin long? I thought she had decided to take leave to spend more time with her subpoenas months ago.
Balrog #117 — wow. Now THAT is some tasty news.
I note the article doesn’t say what she was doing for employment at the time of resignation; it says she was Rove’s aide, but it wasn’t written in a specific tense.
Mary, where are you? are you out there??
There are many great internet radio stations, either with Itunes or their individual web pages such as radioparadise.com, and a all Beatles station, and for 60’s music techwebsound.com
But kids you must connect your audio output to your stereo
(go to radio shack for the cable)
Balrog – Did you see that Patty is now tied with Bachman? Yaaaaaaa! Callers on NPR were amazed at how much passion Patty is showing given the topic dujour these days. That and the ad I mentioned above is making me smile a bit today.
GrandmaJ @ 121
Goodness gracious! He is a handsome one, isn’t he?
Rayne @ 123
I believe she was a food-taster for Rover. Her experience as a Ralston made her quite qualified…
GrandmaJ @ 125
Yes, not to mention Hatch in front of Pawlenty and Klobuchar thrashing Kennedy. Minnesota is looking good!
Balrog @ 127
I believe this qualifies as a triple-entendre.
TRex @ 124
Good lookin’ dude, but this photograph of him is kinda creepy. It has a kind of halo area around his head that vaguely strikes me as odd.
Trex – The link to the picture was great, but seeing the ad where he is riding a horse — ah hem, shows him at his best IMO. Sorry, I wish I could link to it – I would blow up the website if I tried. :(
GrandmaJ @ 131
I found it. Oh, yes. I found it.
Sigh.
When he comes inside, you know he takes his hat off. Probably would call your mama “ma’am”, too.
Thanks TRex – I am still smiling.
Ralston resigns? Won’t work Rove. Hastert, Boehner, Rove. And after you guys…? Guess who? There’s the scent of blood in the water. The sharks are circling. And we just love dining on big tunas.
Oy vey, I can hear the pitter patter of the 60 million year old heart of the T man from here. [Turns on a virtual fan pointed towards TRex]
Would you like a towel? Perhaps a moist towelette? Can we get a mojito over here for hims stat?
TRex @
132
Knock it off now. NPR may be lurking.
Fini – got a towel for an old Lady? Dinasaurs are a hardy breed, but old ladies need more help. Sorry, last reference to this. I am going to blush very soon.
Donita:
here’s a 90s girl doing a 60s flashback:

a great talent wasted on the Nashville set.
GrandmaJ @ 137
Oh dear, where the hell are my manners? Yes of course [pats dry her forehead] there you go!
Balrog @ 120
wouldn’t be surprised if rove used this foley mess as an opportunity to slip plenty of dirt out under the radar.
Psyilli threads, I love it! Terrence McKenna is somewhere out there smiling, along with many others.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrence_McKenna
TRex @ 103
Not the right kind, anyway. Has anybody ever had the idea of sending somebody else’s kids to get their asses blown up in an illegal, trumped-up war during a pot-smoking session? I don’t think so. That only happens on alcohol, heroin, or cocaine derivatives.
ember @ 140
Ralston chose to step down and “we support her decision and consider the matter closed,” Perino said.
LOL Fat chance
Ralston– got Purina?
ooh, blood in ze vater! woof, woof.
cbl @

Oh, cbl.. now you’ve gone and done it. Started back up my old k.d. addiction.
CHUM video interview where k.d.’s spirit shines through
One of my favs from an old Warner’s promo tape that I used to produce a “video release party” at a dyke bar on Valencia one lovely, lovely evening…
and then later, when she came to the Fillmore, all I could rave about was meeting Larry Wanagas… man, those were great times.
And this one too, I see good old jools has finally posted one of my favs.
OK pups, I have laundry to tend to now that all my towels are moistened. Have a great weekend you all!
Aloha, Fini.
Reminds me of a joke about doing laundry by hand…
great catch Balrog !
actually got up from my attempted nap thinking I might be missing the usual Friday afternoon newsdump – yeppers !
loosely related – asked this last week – Jack was scheduled for prison this week – but has now been pushed back – does anyone know why his entrance to prison was postponed ??
as a recovering Abramoff junkie, was thinking it was wildly coincidental that Jack gets a delay and all those Rove/Ralston e mails show up in press – I know, I know, I’m being greedy but if in fact there was some kind of connection . . .Jack is now scheduled to go just in time to make a big pre-election dump!

k d’s a treasure aint she ? one of the few artists we agree on with our kids
Hey, Dinita, I love Bea. I even saw her Broadway show. It’s just these particular videos we discuss are. . . singular.
Does anyone take acid anymore?
Sure. Well, not me – it’s been . . . let’s see, here . . . coming up on thirty years since my last trip. But I still hear about it from time to time.
Cannabis is pretty important to me, but I don’t think the high school set is the appropriate audience.
I get a little concerned when people call it pot because that has a negative inference much of the time. Cannabis is medicine.
I’m not going to spam you with my perspective. I’ll blogwhore a bit though, because I have a lot to say about the subject if people want to check it out.
Cannablog: Peace and love, y’all
