bdu — Friday night is high school football, and in some towns it’s Homecoming game. Many folks are getting ready for the game, others finishing dinner, and still more commuting home.

It may be a bit quiet until 8:00 pm EDT.

And hopefully it’s quiet here tomorrow from 10am to 4pm while everybody is out beating the pavement going door-to-door in their neighborhoods.

Argh. I’ll probably be sleeping. This new schedule change (5 p.m. - 1.30 a.m., plus a longer commute) is driving me batty. I like it. But it’s still a big change.

If I get used to it soon enough, I’ll be pounding some pavement for Ciro. I haven’t seen one sign up for him yet, and I’d really like to have him for a Congressman. Anyone but Bonilla! Hm. Maybe it’s time to do a bit of snooping for photos of Bonilla smiling beside Hastert or Foley. And hm… Wonder about his campaign contributions. That puto would take money from Satan if it would keep him in Washington (which, honestly, is better than having the cabron here-but not as my Rep!).

Yes, that is me asking the “Hastert question” of Ned and Wes Clark. Average people, like the nurses I work with, just don’t have the time or inclination to learn about the Geneva Conventions or habeus issues. But when they hear in passing while they are doing 4 things and the news is on, that kids are at risk — they stop and listen. Yes, the war is critical, but for the average “soccer mom” here, I think this story has legs.

More grist for the war mill from last night when Spazeboy and I interviewed Brigadier General John H. Johns. Talk about a man from West Point who us just so mad — everything he has stood for as a proud military man is being shredded in front of his eyes. (you can see it here or here

We’re all pitching in and helping each other — Joe was close to Bob today, so he nailed him on Hastert — while Spazeboy and I were at UConn. Lots of energy from the students at the rally.

People are rumbling about the campaign — hey, this is a marathon. We’re at about mile 10 of 27. At this point in August, we were 20 points down, now it’s about 10. Ned’s fear ad, first broadcast yesterday demands your attention by starting with that scream and being in B&W like the Iraq ad. IMHO, Lieberman is still polling well because of the name recognition. When people get in that booth, and have to go down SEVEN lines to Lieberman, we’ll see the real results.

What’s really needed at this point is phone canvassing. People are not tuned in yet the way we junkies are. When Lamont callers and canvassers start telling people about Joe — they nearly fall over. It is all about the one-to-one education effort — and you all can phone from wherever you are. Check the Lamont Web site.

Ned still has great crowds while Joe does very few public appearances that aren’t set up with carefully screened attendees. The debate Monday even 10/23 with Stephanopoulous moderating should be interesting. I’m betting it will be live on C-SPAN. But, against the home NY Giants playing Monday night football, it won’t get the greatest viewership.

We’re doing well, working hard and trying to pace ourselves over the next 30 days, while we all work at our full-time jobs and miss our significant others. Thanks for all of your support!

Hastert’s so radioactive right now that a growing number of Congresscritters are suddenly cancelling fundraisers where he was supposed to be the lead draw.

And Denny’s odd belief that he could get out from under the cover-up charge by blaming everything on Bill Clinton and George Soros isn’t working either, even with other Republicans:

Comments that Hastert made in a Tribune interview suggesting the scandal had been orchestrated by ABC News, Democratic political operatives aligned with the Clinton White House and liberal activist George Soros were considered a serious misstep in national Republican circles, an official said. Senior Republican officials contacted Hastert’s office before his news conference Thursday to urge that he not repeat the charges, and he backed away from them in his news conference.

“The Chicago Tribune interview last night–the George Soros defense–was viewed as incredibly inept,” a national Republican official said. “It could have been written by [comedian] Jon Stewart.”

Thanks for the background on Tony Kline. I was relieved there was one dissent anyway. On to the California Supreme Court!

Yes, it was great to see Dennis Herrera, our city attorney, say that this was a three-round fight, and that we’d lost the second, but the third would really tell the tale.
