Loopholes mean fence may never be built, at least not as advertised

The office of Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-
Tex.) yesterday released a letter from House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) promising to ensure that Chertoff has discretion over whether to build a fence or choose other options. Homeland Security officials must also consult with U.S., state and local representatives on where structures are placed.

This brings to mind an old Doonesbury cartoon. IIRC, Zonker and Mike are hanging out, and Mike tells Zonker that he’s got good news and bad news. The bad news is that the President is instituting draft registration again. Zonker makes noises about Canada, but then Mike stops him. “The good news is they’re putting the Post Office in charge of it.” Zonker feels much better.

Tell my aching feet and back and shoulders that postal workers are inefficient and lazy and incompetent and all the usual bitch moan and groan that we get from the IDIOT PUBLIC. I can assure all of you on this board that 90% of postal customers are stupid, lazy, rude, presumptuous, condescending and inconsiderate. Want to know why it takes forever for mail to get anywhere and why we’re all so pissed off? Look in the mirror. People don’t know how to address mail, don’t know how to put postage on mail, don’t put return addresses on things, don’t let us know when they move (yeah, we’re psychic about your NEW address!), try to mail something for nothing, try to mail goofy ass shit like WRENCHES in regular envelopes–you name it. We see it. Why? Because we’re the only business in America that has to deal with every stinking American, and I can assure all of you that this experience has verified in my mind that Americans are the stupidest people, as a whole, on earth. Nobody else has to deal with so many morons, EVERY. FUCKING. DAY (yes, we work on Sundays). Think about it.

When Hastert said he “takes responsibility,” what exactly did he take responsibility for?

Read his statement, and he actually takes no responsibility for anything. Foley is responsible for sending the emails, of course. The Dems and George Soros are responsible for leaking them. He’s asked about his staff’s role, but answers with doublespeak – which says in essence, “I’m not responsible for my staff.”

Hastert’s statement accepting responsibility seems to be little more than a sentence that says “my name is at the top of the House table of organization.” Everyone else is to blame for this mess, it seems, but not Dear Denny.

John might want to ask Denny to make his acceptance of responsibility a bit more specific. Any enterprising reporters lurking around here might want to do the same.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that I have read, but don’t remeber where, that Brian Ross has indicated that his source is a Republican. I have been wondering who it is since the story broke as I am sure the GOP has also. My gut feel is that this whole mess has been known about for years and both parties let it go on. That’s why I think it is tied into the NIE and a member of the CIA is Ross’s source. I am sure it is not the Democratic party because they would have used it in 2000 or 2002 and of course in 2004 to derail the GOP juggernaught. Whoever exposed it, all I want to say is Thank you!!!
