What a utterly contemptible bastard he is. Video games, sex in music and movies and Bill Clinton are he attacks because of the children (they will be harmed!) but people who covered up for a 50 year old chicken-hawk (who was stalking real children) are okay?

Swine. What an utter swine.

Hi Jane,

Subject: Tar & Feathers

I have been following Jack Abramoff since watching Italia Federici’s testimony — highly recommend watching PBS Capital Crimes.

We need patriotic honest Americans by the tens of millions to start heating the tar and looking for feathers.

This problem is fundamental in our government and will not get better until those in power from “both parties” feel lots of heat.

You cannot get elected (reelected) if you do not join the club.

Merck, Exxon, Wal-Mart, etc, etc do not care who they pay to get what they want.

This is not just a repub thing, the Walton family now has over $80 Billion mostly gained via Mr. Bill while sending millions of American jobs to China during the 90’s.

Our big exports now are jobs, scrap metal, threats, war and military items. We do not export computers, cars, TV’s, furniture, coffee makers, etc., etc. so our leaders need to export something to keep us a float.

Maybe this problem is fundamental to our society — so long as my pocket is being stuffed with money all is OK, just ask a Realtor or mortgage broker between 2001 and Jan 2006 or a small business owner who got their Hummer or a stock broker between 1996 and 2000.

Hewlett Packard was the model to follow in Silicon Valley 20 years ago and look at them now.

Honesty and Integrity is for all, we must demand it from all.

I’m not sure this scandal will change any minds where we need to get them changed.

That’s where Nancy Grace and Rita Cosby come in. FoleyHastertReynoldsBoehnerGate hits directly at the Xtian Right. They watch Fox News, still give the Shrub a favorable JAR (job approval rating) and do not read FDL. This will depress their voter turnout in November, or possibly cause some to vote blue.

I do not in any way mean we can relax. The poll numbers confirm that we can’t, but this is very good news.

The Foley cover-up is just the latest in a long line of Repug cover-ups of crimes, lies, and worse.

War lies, 9/11 lies, election fraud, torture and torture lies, the PATRIOT actS, Katrina lies, war profiteering, price-fixing, other corporatist lies, filling the federal courts with fascist pigs, and raping the US Constitution. POLITICIZING abortion, religion, and homosexuality.

Give Lieberman the choice. Either he denounces this fascist regime or he’s kicked out of the Democratic party. Have some balls for once. Lieberman thinks we should show respect for Junior just because he’s the president. Get lost Joe!!!

John Casper @ 123

vidocq @ 92

Okay let me ask a really dumb question?

We make a big deal over forcing Hastert to resign as Speaker. And let’s assume he does.

Now the Republicans all get together and elect a new Speaker (meet the new boss, same as the old boss).

The new boss promises a complete in-depth investigation to clean everything up (anyone remember how Jodi Rell got so popular?) commencing November 8th.

And Pagegate is pushed back to page 10 two weeks before the election.

What have we gained?

The sex scandal becomes about 10th page news and

Not a dumb question at all.
Hastert is toast as Speaker. Once he’s gone, even more pressure will come to bear on Boehner and Reynolds to resign, because they enabled this every bit as much as Hastert. These things take time. You have a tearful apology from Hastert in his resignation speech. It’s the metaphor of DeadEye shooting Harry in the face all over the front pages day after day. The metaphor is: Republicans can’t govern. It’s a Joe and Jane sixpack story. Rita Cosby and Nancy Grace are reinforcing the metaphor.

Then you probably have the tearful resignations Boehner and Reynolds from their party offices. Or you have them fighting to retain their party office, by pointing the finger at other Republicans. (They can’t claim that is a “partisan” issue) Either way, there is no “oxygen” in the media for the GOP to spin anything. Republicans just look morally bankrupt in the month leading into midterms. As Lawrence O’Donnell said on Scarborough, “this story is out of control.” Conservatives and liberals want the truth. Karl Rove for probably the first time in the last six years, cannot control headlines or anything else, at all. The media is free to do their job on this story in a way they are not on practically every other story they cover. It is an amazing confluence of events.

I understand your scenario. And it makes a certain amount of sense. But Christ, we’re in deep doo doo if we have to depend on the likes of Rita Cosby & Nancy Grace to fight our battles.

Hell they’re still looking for that poor young woman in Aruba.

Mostly I lurk & I like the people here. But it’s a lot like kissin’ your sister.

Everytime there’s another gop scandel (how many is that now?). The conservative cable commentators at Fox, CNN & even MSNBC say:

Bill Clinton

And the viewer nod their heads: “Duh, yeah Bill Clinton.”

Did you ever try to discuss this stuff with those people?

Hell you might as well tell me about James Buchanan or Eisenhower’s wartime girlfriend or JFK gettin laid in the White House. Who cares? It aint about gettin’ even folks.

It’s about gettin’ seats.

If the issue is: “Are the Republican morale enough to govern?” Well there’s a litany of indictments, convictions and proven accusations, one piled on top of another.

And maybe a better scenario here in Connecticut is to paint Joe Lieberman with the brush he’s chosen.

His defense of Denny Hastert simply proves that Joe Lieberman is nothing more than a tool of the Washington “Old Boy” network and if we’re ever going to get the hell out of Iraq. We’re going to need to get Joe Lieberman out of the senate.

Joe Liberman & Chuck Schumer are ideologically linked & committed to doing whatever they need to do to support Israel. Our Middle East policies need a major overhaul and we’re not going to get it from these guys. They working for a constituency that doesn’t vote on this continent but does finance campaigns. Spend a few hours going over campaign contributions in the Secretary of State’s office in Hartford.

I really believe that while the morality issue might erode support in the Bible belt. The big issues are draw down & pocket book issues.

I’m not sure this scandal will change any minds where we need to get them changed.

People want answers. I only see two “exit strategies” from the media feeding frenzy for Hastert, Boehner, and Reynolds.
Option 1: full admissions of criminal negligence wrt workplace sexual harrassment and statutory rape.
Option 2: “I cannot comment, because there is an ongoing criminal investigation.”

America, conservative and liberal, doesn’t care if they resign. They can resign from their party offices. They can resign from Congress. The media will continue to hound them. What did they know? When did they know it?

Option 2: “I cannot comment, because there is an ongoing criminal investigation.”
