Uber-prig Joe Lieberman took so much pride in standing on the floor of the Senate and scolding Bill Clinton over a blow job that you just knew he'd come out swinging over Dennis Hastert's part in the coverup of sexually predatory behavior towards minors, didn't you?
No we don't live in that world, we live in friggin' bizzaroworld. When asked whether Hastert should step down today, Joe scolded Democrats for attempting to make it a partisan issue. Of course he has no interest in holding Hastert or any other Republican to account.
Joe Lieberman just can't bring himself to hold anyone in Washington accountable, even when the safety of our children is at stake. If Dennis Hastert knew that Mark Foley was harassing minors and didn't do anything about it, he should resign immediately. Anyone who disagrees is morally tone deaf. The fact that Joe Lieberman says calling for Hastert's resignation is too "partisan" demonstrates that he's been in Washington so long that he can't recognize the difference between what's right and what's partisan. We expect Senator Lieberman to stand by President Bush on the war and other failed policies, but until now we didn't expect him to protect a public leader who put the safety of our children at risk. Connecticut deserves better than someone who puts a twisted definition of "bipartisanship" ahead of what's right for this country. It's time for a change.
Joe Lieberman does not want to take responsibility for his mismanagement of the disastrous war in Iraq, nor does he want to hold Dennis Hastert responsible for his role in this sordid affair. This may be Tortureman's definition of what it means to be "bipartisan," but it is not mine.

Jane!
Holy Joe gotta go.
So what’s the next crazy gooper scandal gonna be? Sheesh, we’ve gone beyond surreal to, well, whatever that condition is called, that exists beyond surreal hehe.
I’m voting for the next scandal involving ritual human sacrifice and cannibalism!
Wow, did Joe really say that calling for Hastert’s resignation is “partisan”? Then why is Human Events going to do just that? And the Washington Times – what about them?
The fact that Lieberman is on the wrong side of even this issue will be the last straw for many people.
I’m shocked!! (NOT)
Joe won’t say anything bad about Repugs but he sure doesn’t mind mouthin’ off about Dems.
I’m surprised he hasn’t blamed this on Ned.
Oh goody.
Joe, you get Denny’s back.
Denny, you hang in there buddy. We need you to stay tough. Throw everybody else over to save yourself. Keep up the denial.
Fox, Drudge, Dobson, Rush you guys keep backing Denny too. It makes you seem so in touch with the American people.
I have a feeling that Lieberman’s money masters haven’t informed him as to what position he should take on this Hastert matter, so he fell back on the tried and true “too-Partisan” excuse, which he has rendered utterly meaningless.
It seems like curtains for ole Joe.
Let’s see–his buddy Foley hiding out in a mistreatment center with his liver hanging out of his pant leg, Hastert’s term as Cover Boy for Foley…how does it feel to be a Republican Joe?
The GOP sewer of DC is the result of years of “Democratic” Liebermanism.
I wonder if anyone can help define what “Liebermanism” is. Let’s coin the term.
Jane, I wonder if we should have a definitions contest?
Fordham says he repeatedly told Hastert’s then-Chief of Staff Scott Palmer as far back as 2003 that there was a problem with Foley and the pages. And nothing was ever done.
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/
Face it, Joe is one strange fellow who is now in bed financially and politically with the Semblers (child torturers) of the world. He has passed into the dark side and is beyond contempt.
Go Ned Go CT Dems!
no time to check for double-postings, but this seems important:
Resignation Statement by Kirk Fordham (who said he could last until Friday?) on AmericaBlog:
Liebermanism is like Fox calling Foley a (D)
Isn’t it obvious at this point that Holy Joe has long been a Republican mole? That everything out of his mouth confirms that he is, at best, a concern troll?
Prof: This part by Fordham is going to make them drop….
I will fully disclose to the FBI and the House Ethics Committee any and all meetings and phone calls I had with senior staffers in the House Leadership about any of Foley’s inappropriate activities.
ccmask @ 14
I like Liebermanism. Maybe we should shorten it: Lieberism.
But at this point, this is what’s making my head explode: who, aside from Repubs, are seriously going to vote for him? What Dem in their right mind would vote for this Republican Lemming? Cause as we know, he will lead them right over the cliff.
Don’t you wanna go knocking door to door in Ct. and just ask, “Why?”
That statement by Ned is as solid as it gets.
If a Democrat calls for Foley-enabling/covering-up Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign, Joe Lieberman says it’s “partisan.” And, as a member of the Party of One, partisanship is anathema to him.
But what does he call it when a veteran leader of the conservative movement like Richard Vigurie, or other conservatives, call for Hastert’s resignation? Are Republicans allowed to do it, but Democrats aren’t? Or is everyone just supposed to STFU while this collossal failure of moral leadership by House Republicans continues to endanger underage Congressional pages?
What would Joe do?
And it only took Fordham a week to figure out that telling the truth was the right thing to do.
Jeesh.
Yes! MORE AGGRESSSION PLEASE! This is good stuff. Ned needs to continue to point out where he is plainspoken and right on basic common sense issues.
To defend Hastert on this is lunacy on Joe’s part.
afterthought @ 6
Don’t forget Preznit Bush. He was still staying the course the last I heard. No cut and runner, he.

I’ll bet Fordham has some good stories.
Definitions in Liebermanism:
1) partisanship is attacking Republicans
2) bipartisanship is helping Republicans attack Democrats
3) ?
Pachacutec @ 9

Muzzy @ 18

3) Change the rules in the middle of the game if you don’t think you’re winning.

Liebernamism:
Talking out both sides of your mouth AND your a** at the same time, and Lying while you do it.
Joe’s just trying to buy a little more insurance. You know, like when he decided he’d run anyway, after he lost the primary. Yup, Joe’s said it was about insurance, and if all it takes is demonstrating his complete lack of ethics, why, it seems to be something he’s OK with. What a crumb.
THE KISS FLOAT! I miss that. Is it still around? I don’t see it anymore.
I really think Lieberman’s unwillingness to take a stand against those who conspire to protect pederasts will be the last straw for all who saw him as a man of morals.
Which is exactly why Lamont needs to absolutely pound on this issue.
It is a wake up call for those who do not yet realize that Lieberman is a man of no integrity.
Lieberman lined up on the wrong side of Predatorgate. An incomprehensible act of political suicide – particularly for someone who claims not to be a Republican.
Let’s make sure the voters of Connecticut know about this.
Based on past statements, LIEberman will likely “refrain from criticizing the leadership” on such sensitive national sexcurity issues!
Now back to reality . . .
If the election were held today, Ned would lose.
IMO, his handlers need to break away from the soft sell, anti-Iraq, antiJoe approach.
He already has those votes. WE know what he stands for, but THEY don’t.
If Foley can come out of the closet and admit he’s gay then I think it’s time for Lieberman to come out of the closet and admit he’s a Republican.
Lamont’s statement is perfect for the situation. Ned is really getting his voice and getting the momentum at the perfect time. Lieberman is toast.
Great statement by Lamont. Keep it up. Go Ned!
Lessee, it’s partisan if Democrats criticize Hastert, even if they’re right. And it’s not partisan if Republicans criticize Clinton, even if they’re wrong.
Slash-and-burn partisanship is Grover Norquist’s “bipartisanship is another name for date rape.”
Liebermanism is chiming in with “she was asking for it.”
Speaking out against President Clinton on the floor of the Senate because of a overly friendly consensual sex is statemanship.
Speaking out against harassment of 16 year old pages is evil partisanship.
O-kay.

with losermon this chummy with repukelicans, it would seem ludicrous for democrats to even think about having him in their caucus (does the phrase “spy in your midst” strike a chord?). democrats should force him to declare himself the republican candidate now, kick him out NOW so he stops screwing up the election – its the only honnest thing to do. there is no way it would be wise to have him in the dem caucus if he wins.

I think they do.
Joe: “Ned has run a relentlessly negative campaign and done a lot of finger-pointing,” Lieberman said. “He is inexperienced and would just add to the partisanship and polarization in Washington that’s blocking progress on national challenges like home ownership and health care costs.”
http://www.boston.com/news/loc…..or_lamont/
snip
Joe’s been talking about health care for 18 bloody years! Let me wring out my hanky…I just found out that without Joe and his party of freakin one health care will not exist!! So what Joe is saying is that the reason Connecticut’s box of band aids is empty is because of Ned? His idea of health care is having Americans snort packs of Dr. Feelgood’s Boogie Woogie HMO Powders! Time to come home from the fair Joe.
What more evidence is required to realize that Joe Lieberman is a stain on statesmanship. This individual is grossly irresponsible. He protects the Bush administration. Turns his back on his party. And now fails to condemn Hastert for turning a deaf ear toward information presented to the Speaker three years ago surrounding the pervert-pedo Republican Congressional Representative, Mark Foley.
*xyz @

Incredibly, incredibly stupid decision by Lieberman. This was an absolute no-brainer, a freebie, and Mr. Morality lined up, not just with the Republicans, but with the pro-pedophile Republicans. Good on Ned for calling him on it.
If one couldn’t see how neatly Lieberman’s “moral” positions consistently line up with a Republican agenda, you would have to guess that Lieberman practices “Magic 8-Ball” morality – choosing whether to freak out about any given issue based on sheer chance.
Thus, Clinton warrants a full-scale dressing down on the floor of the Senate, while anyone who criticizes Hastert regarding Foley is “partisan”.
In the battle of Lamont vs. LiarMan, this is a HUGE opening in the LiarMan lines. Mr. Lamont needs to drive a freight truck thru this. No more kum-ba-ya moments, please Mr. Lamont. Stand up like a man, and take a swing.
I urge Mr. Lamont to get this latest message out to those groups who voted for LiarMan in the primary. Chip away at LiarMan’s democratic base. Well crafted messages such as the one cited by Ms. Hamsher will do the trick. It’s very very hard to convince even LiarMan’s diehards to stick with a man who excuses child molestation. LiarMan is at best, an enabler of rape of our children.
I urge Mr. Lamont to swing hard on this. Such opportunities do not come around often. Hit LiarMan, and hit him hard with this message. Start knocking down LiarMan’s base from the primary. It can be done….but you gotta be willing to fight. Now’s the time. God speed Mr. Lamont.
Ghostman
I really like “uber-prig”!
Joe is okay with endless, pointless war, Joe is okay with child molesters in the government. What *else* is Joe okay with?
Eli @ 47
Not if your main audience is diehard Repugs in CT!
You see there is principle and then there is reality. Joe will do nothing and say nothing against Republicans because they have him by the short hairs. He’s as much at their mercy as oh say, a 16 year old page.
Ghostman – Agree 100%.
Lieberman’s moral image is about to take a massive and well-deserved hit.
But I really want to hear the full quote by Lieberman saying that criticisms of Hastert and Republican leadership in the wake of Predatorgate are “partisan”. Anyone have a link?
It seems almost too good to be true that Lieberman would cause himself such an avoidable self-inflicted wound. But it would be consistent with his past behavior…
Question: Is Joe still strong among the black voters? I had heard/read that is his base and combined with republicans those are his voters.
True? Why for goodness sakes?
Bipartisan = when both Bay Buchanan and James Carville (on CNN) declare that Hastert will/should resign by this weekend, and Cafferty says “you can now describe the Speaker as ‘toast’” — is that “bipartisan” enough for Joe?
I don’t think that word means what [he] thinks it means. — Y. Montoya
tfitznc @ 52
So die-hard that they’re okay with covering up for Foley? I don’t think it would really cost him much with Republican voters to say that what Foley and the Republican leadership did was very, very wrong.
When you look up saboteur in the dictionary, you will find Lieberliar.
Throw him out.
GrandmaJ @ 55
He was a big civil rights guy 800 years ago.
dipper @ 50
Yes, the uber-pig is Hastert.
Eli at 57 – Exactly. Lieberman could have come down on the right side of predatorgate without really alienating Republicans, many of whom are outraged themselves. But he didn’t. What a fool. I can’t wait to get out to CT and start volunteering.
I think there can be multiple definitions, and I like the submissions so far. I hope people offer others. Here’s what I just worked up:
Liebermanism (n): the cultivation of political, institutional or governmental corruption, indecency or vice, abetted by superficial displays of public morality and inauthentic protestations of outrage over pious irrelevancies.
Thanks Eli for the answer. But with the torture bill passing with nary a word from Joe about ‘civil rights’ why is that not being pushed against joe?
Nevermind. There are no answers sometimes – just my brain spinning with confusion.
Oh, Joe. Didn’t you learn anything from Yom Kippur? Are you going to spend another year inscribed in the Book of Assholes?
Pachacutec @ 62
Add a little something about malignant narcissism and I think you’ve got it!
Pachacutec @ 62
Annoying whining should be in there somewhere.
Wolf’s CNN Situation Room has been nothing but “the sky is falling” —
In Iraq: Car bombings, bullet riddled bodies, more US soldiers dead, death squads infiltrating security forces — and that’s the lead in to Mike Ware, who is even more alarmist.
The reporting on Foley is — the Republican sky is falling.
Get the children indoors.
Pachacutec @ 62
I think it’s more about betrayal and collaboration for some sort of amorphous advantage (really, what exactly does Lieberman get out of it?) than it is about corruption, though.
Can anyone here imagine, in the real world, if you got caught “trolling” for page boys, the cops don’t come knocking to pick you up for questioning? Especially with a Family Morals party in power! Why, what a great arrest it would have been right before the election! If Foley wasn’t such a chickenhawk, he could have outed himself. Now, that’s courage.
If only Libby had outed Foley instead of a Plame, a mother of twins

Help me out with this one too. I got all excited but I want to see the quote. Is this all based on Imus? There I think you can read where Joe thought it was bad that Shimkus did not inform the Democratic members of the committee, and THAT act was partisan.
I’d love to think that Joe said something wrong, but we are dealing with the issue of kids, so lets not put words into his mouth that aren’t there.
Now, the lead from Joe should be… Hastert has to go because he allowed Foley to remain in his committees…. apparently he did not do that and that is a serious lapse of judgement. BUT there’s a lot of venom and no quotes yet. Help us out with some…

With apologies to the sight-impaired, I remember standing on a runway with newly-painted centerline stripes that “even Ray Charles could see” (according to the painter) … this is behavior that is so outrageous, so egregious, so utterly wrong that, yes, even the proverbial “blind man” can see it for what it is. I’d ask what it is these people are thinking, but it’s abundantly clear that thinking is an activity wholly foreign to them. And I’ll save my definition(s) for the contest.

What a godsend, for Joe to be so deaf. Ned has to get this into a TV ad soonest, get it on the radio into heavy rotation. Strike while the foot is still in the mouth!
Oh!!!! I am so glad that Lieberman said that out loud. It is straight from the BushCo. playbook, where every bit of criticism/ fair questioning/ etc. is labeled as *Partisan*. EVERYTHING. *Partisan* is BushCo’s favorite attack word. Global warming, Schiavo stuff, criticism from Union of Concerned Scientists (just to cite some things that have dropped under the radar).
Geez, I wish I could remember that phrase from some internet gamer thing that I knew nil about until TRex had it as an alternative FDL title.

Bush is as some might argue is a buffoon. And Rove is his brain. Hastert is a buffoon, many say. And Boehner is his brain. Boehner must not be allowed a pass on this pedo mess.
Bill Mahr, on CNN, just repeated “eggman’s” argument: These weren’t kids; 16 year olds are legal age; there are equally culpable.
Keith is back tonight!
woo hoo!
Ghostman @ 50 said it all…please Ned, hit the pedophile enabler upside the head with a two by four! Don’t hesitate. It’s time to start WINNING this race. NOW! Ned is in the right and Joe is in the trough with the swine covered in slop.
Go hose him down!
I hear Keith’s voice! Thank goodness-I thought they Phil Donahued him.
Oklahoma kiddo @
158
I agree.
Ebola – That was Lieberman’s.
Keith O. and David Shuster!
ccmask @ 162
if they do, I’ll become a sports fan again… he’ll be there!
Shuster reporting on Olbermann that every Republican lawmaker he has talked with has said that Hastert will not be the Speaker this time next week.
I read the Kos diary that was purported to contain Joe Lieberman’s statement that calling for Hastert’s resignation was partisan. I’m sorry, I can’t find that language. Can somebody point it out to me? (I don’t doubt that he would say it, I just don’t see it).
Once again the FBI waits until 5 days after the revelation of a possible crime to ask that records and computers be sealed for the investigation. Ya think that it takes 5 days to destroy evidence?
Then again, the master computer in the sky knows all.
John Casper @ 166
Hopefully he won’t be a *Congressman* this time next Februrary.
Keith speaks of the domino effect.
yeah, baby!
Shuster reporting that Boehner and Reynolds may go too, in addition to Hastert.
RevDeb @ 157
Thanks! But don’t declare it over yet… this topic is juicy enough to last for days.
Hastert is toast. Boehner will go. We must look beyond Boehner. To Rove.
1,293 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Firepups:
The disrobing of Joe Lieberman in front of the entire country has exposed more’n Country Joe’s shriveled up ass…it has exposed jest how far the corporate fascists have gotten in takin’ over the Democratic Party through the DLC and the old money system.
This most recent incarnation of fascism began in 1964 and metastasized in 1980…and it included developing Joe Lieberman for a strategic position of power in the Democratic Party while using him to advance the purge of “liberal” Republicans from the party by takin’ out Lowell Weicker.
We are all pretty slow to understand, but let’s get down to it…Joe Lieberman has NEVER been a democrat or a Democrat. What Lieberman represents is the face of “friendly fascism” and he is now, even in his crash landing, diverting precious resources and threatening to corrupt the effort to restore a democratic movement in our politics.
So let’s stop bein’ astounded by anything and everything Joe does and increase the pressure on the Democratic leadership to purge this fascist Quisling in public and ram him right up Rove’s ass.
KEEP THE FAITH AND YOUR EYES ON THE TARGET!!
Keith is now on the real story . . . cover up and the power of being a good fund raiser. That power buys a lot of silence.
RevDeb @ 157
I like it too.
Sen. Joe Lieberman: “Yeah I saw you ran it this morning. I mean that’s just absolutely the wrong response, and it shows how politically sick congress in Washington has become, because everything is seen through the prism of partisanship. I’m not naive, I’ve been in this business a long time, and I know that we are in an election year but my God!
Even after knowing there was a problem with Foley, Reynolds urged him to run for re-election.
Goodbye, Congressman Reynolds.
neurophius @ 178
Yep, that’s a wrap.
Eli @ 180
don’t even have to put on a tin-foil hat for that one
que saran, saran… whatever will be, will be.
SO off topic but I can’t stand myself — my diary at Kos today got front-paged, with a comment from Kos himself!
Eli @ 180
let’s not call it a bum wrap …
LindaR- congrats! Linky please.
Valley Girl @ 184
second that.
John Casper @ 163
Boehner has been very cagey in all this, slipping in the dagger where he can but otherwise keeping a low profile, and staying away from Hastert and the others.

Valley Girl @ 142
Right. What Joe does is fail to call for Hastert’s head. And he calls it ‘political’ which is lame.
But his true failure here is to assume that HIS lofty BS can fix every problem. He’s right that part of the failure was in that the Democrats were not informed. But right after that he should say Hastert needs to go. Now.
He says this was handled politically from the get go, then he says “Now to make it into a political question is wrong” which is like he forgot what he’d said a second before….
THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT JOE SPENT THE TIME DREAMING UP A SAVIOR ROLE FOR A GUY LIKE HIMSELF TO HELP OUT A GUY LIKE HASTERT. Instead of the direct action, which is to kick everyone out who knew Foley was harming kids.
NorskeFlamethrower @ 175
“The disrobing of Joe”
My God. I refuse to look at such a spectacle. I refuse to participate. I won’t do it!
Schuster on countdown says that all the goopers he has talked to say that Hastert won’t be speaker at this time next week.
It would be ironic if this were the event that finally brought down GW Clusterfuck and his fellow war criminals.
He’s murdered hundreds of thousands blown away billions of dollars- this is like him goin down for a fuckin traffic ticket when he wasn’t even driving.
Odd how things sometimes work out.
LindaR @ 183
Cool!
HoJo is so inept he can’t even pick the winning Republican side. Hastert is being abandoned and Joe embraces him. Typical.
And a big OT woot! for our own LindaR, whose diary on Charlie Brown just got front paged by the Orange Overlord himself. Kos adds, “The excitement in so many of these races is palpable. I am already committed to volunteering for Jerry McNerney at least one day. I’m now inspired to trek out to CA-04 and spend a day there as well.” Way to go!
suggested revision, though this strong statement really resonates…
Joe Lieberman just can’t bring himself to hold any
oneRepublican in Washington accountable, even when the safety of our children is at stake.I didn’t know that Reynolds wrap could be used for duck tape.

rwcole @ 192
Completely agree, like convicting Al Capone for tax evasion.
Joe Scarborough on Olbermann just called Hastert: “Dead Man Walking.”
LindaR @ 188
Well done, that! Keep it up.
angie @ 203
Okay, but remember you asked for it.
I think at Tony Snowjob’s next presser, somebody needs to ask him:
A simple Yes or No response is all we need.
Did Junya ever return Foley’s Pages?
Scarborough on the Republicans’ chances in the election this November:
“They’ve already hit the iceberg. There’s nothing to stop them from going down.”
OT – and I don’t know if anyone else saw this, but a few minutes ago on my google news screensaver there was a CBS news report to the effect that: Lazy news organizations are the reason that the Dems have been able to redefine the Foley incident in their own political terms. This tidbit is no longer up, nor is there anything on the CBS news page that I could see. (But I swear I saw it). In view of the fact that now AP and Fox have “inadvertently” identified Foley as a Dem, with this bit of additional spin, I think we now have a clear sense of where the Republicans are going with this, i.e. to sow enough confusion among the voters so that they give up on this is an issue because they can’t figure out what is real and what is not. And, where (pups) did we hear this before???? Mmmmm:the supposed “link” between Iraq and Bin Ladin, for one thing!
“Former Marine Corps Chief Cites Concerns
WASHINGTON (AP) — Gen. James L. Jones, once the Marine Corps’ top general, did not deny reports in a new book that he told a colleague Iraq was a debacle and that Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld had emasculated the service chiefs.”…….

Eli @ 212
If they try a little harder, they could probably convince the sheeple that the Democrats are the majority party in Congress…you know, the one that needs to be thrown out.
Scarborough has been fairly sane on screen for some time now. He doesn’t seem to want to get back into politics and he long ago gave up defending Clusterfuck. He’s not bad lately.
Hey *ilson! Did you get my email? I see you didn’t delete my link to your *particular* encounter. It is such a great story, but I’m not sure how much you want it passed around. Can you clarify please?

Scarb’s been off the Kool-Aid for a while now, but I think he’s pretty courageous to hit them on this issue, given his own dead-intern problems.
The Democrats were too genteel to ask questions about that, but the Republicans sure as hell won’t be. Then again, maybe they won’t say anything, because another criminal-coverup-in-the-House story is the last thing they need…
Oklahoma kiddo @ 215
Maybe he’s seen KO’s ratings.
Scarbourgh: Even Rove has given up
Bwahahaha
goopers have gotta be goin nuts. They don’t have TALKING points- and they can’t HAVE any talking points until Hastert decides whether or not he’s gonna bite the big one.

You need to give up coffee. You are a danger to yourself and those around you.
Denny Hastert- 400 pound man mountain, is about to be pinned by a 98 pound weekly.

And, LIndaR – I read your piece over at Kos before I came here. I hadn’t realized it was you. You rock, nice work!

A Tin Foley Hat might be a good idea for Halloween.
Thanks all re the Kos thing. It does feel like a perfect storm of Democrats-are-going-to-win, but sheesh knock wood on that!
If KO’s ratings stay on the up line, I will remain encouraged.
In case anyone was wondering what Bush was doing today…I don’t know where he is getting the money from. There is no money for this fence.
WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ — The following is a transcript of remarks by President Bush at signing of H.R. 5441, Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2007:The Camelback Inn. Arizona
snip
The bill I sign today includes nearly $1.2 billion in additional funding for strengthening the border, for new infrastructure and technologythat will help us do our job. It provides funding for more border fencing, vehicle barriers, and lighting, for cutting-edge technology, includingground base radar, infrared cameras, and advance sensors that will helpprevent illegal crossings along our southern border. That’s what the people of this country want. They want to know that we’re modernizing the border so we can better secure the border.
The bill also supports our efforts to increase the number of BorderPatrol agents to about 18,000 by the end of 2008. I recognized, Congress recognized that we needed more Border Patrol agents to do the job. So we were in Artesia, New Mexico earlier, and went to the Border Patrol TrainingCenter; they were thanked first-hand, the men and women who are willing togo out and do hard work and help secure a really long border. And I appreciate the service of the Border Patrol.
It provides funding for about 1,500 additional Border Patrol agents. In other words, this is part of a doubling of the Border Patrol that I called for earlier in my administration. I fully understand it’s going to take time to recruit and train these Border Patrol, and that’s why, in coordination with the governors, we deployed 6,000 National Guard members to the southern border, and they’re doing a fine job.
I remember the outcry when I thought it was a good — told the American people I thought it was a good idea to send them down there. But,
thankfully, we did. And they’re helping the Border Patrol. And when the Border Patrol agencies — number of agents double, then we’re not going to need the National Guard. But in the meantime, America owes them a debt of gratitude and thanks.

LindaR,
Went and read your Kos post, really very well done!
I remember Doolittle when he got elected, I was at UC Davis at the time and thought he was a wanker then. Age hasn’t improved him at all. I think Doolittle is a goner and Pombo is going with him. Alcatraz might want a pair of live-in re-enactors.
JupiterPluvius @ 248
Yes, great diary, LindaR. Inspiring.
Eli @ 254
ah, the Axis of Eli….
I’ve been looking at Scarborough for a couple of years. I have to say this guy seems, I said ’seems’ to have shall I say ‘come around’ on some issues. I shall reserve judgment, however. Another right winger, Tucker Carlson, appears to have a decent slant on the Iraq war. I shall ‘hold’ on Carlson too. Do we have another possible Kevin Phillips situation brewing w/ these guys? I have heard it said ‘anything is possible’.
New thread upstairs. Sorry, but i beat y’all there.
Scarborough turned against the admin during Katrina– sometimes he just gets mad and refuses to toe the party line.
Must suck to be a part of the backwash… getting lonely out there.
JupiterPluvius @ 248
That’s just great! Really, thanks everyone. It was so much fun last night — and I think this is happening all over the country. I hate to let myself hope, but I think I actually am letting myself hope.
Upstairs, new thread is: Lieberman Trashes Democrats for Making “Foley” Political — Again
Stay the course Joe: 22 US service-members now killed in the past four days in Iraq.
IMUS IS SUCH A WHORE
The only reason he supports Lieberman is because Lieberman is supporting one of his wife’s (Diedre) causes.
There are a lot of other ways to support a cause without bending over and kissing the ass of someone like Holy Joe!!!
well, well, well
As the fourth or fifth poster remarked above, this support of Hastert is probably going to sink Lieberman. What is he thinking?!
I’m sorry to put it so baldly: whatever you think of Lieberman’s politics (and I don’t care for them), this guy is just too disconnected from reality to be a senator. With respect to Iraq, he has a lot of company in Cloud Cuckoo-Land, but to support Hastert when you don’t yet know the full extent of his actions demonstrates a singular lack of understanding.
A significant number of Republicans who would have voted for Lieberman in November are now going to stay home. And if, as we all suspect, more is to come, the election may turn into a rout. It is now foolish to bet against Lamont winning. I sent money to Lamont six months ago (and am glad I did); but I never thought he would pull this off. Who knew Lieberman was so completely delusional?
David Derbes @ 267
Who knows? All I can say is that if Lieberman really wants to tar himself with Hastert’s brush, he’s welcome to it.
Juck Loe Fieberman!
Liebermanism is, and always has been what is most politically conveinient for Joe, and Joe alone.
So, I read the Imus transcript. Lieberman doesn’t condemn Hastert’s inaction, and that’s bad enough. Weirdly, he seems to be trying to advise the Republicans about how to handle it. But there’s no attack on Democrats there. Let’s not exaggerate.
Oh, what the hell, let’s exaggerate.
