the repubs are going to steal the election like they have done in the past few. Our country is no more. better start brushing up on your bible or you may be taken as a heathen enemy combatant and tortured until 2 2=5. i am so ashamed of what we become and we are powerless.

I’m all for working for the Dems to take the House and Senate. I’m working on campaigns right now.

But these Repubs are thugs. And they proved today that they don’t respect the Constitution. So what makes us think that they’ll allow “us” to vote “them” out. I’m not talking about Diebold. I’m talking about the Executive Branch declaring some faux emergency and disbanding Congress.

Hell, they already tried to do this once—that’s what the Anthrax attack was about. Hastert closed down the House, Daschle refused to close down the Senate. So Hastert was forced to open up the House.

I hope we win big in November. But that ain’t going to end our Constitutional crisis. These thugs have no intention of going quietly or giving up power. And they don’t respect the rule of law.

Get ready for some very difficult times.

I am crying for my country as I write. How could we have come to a place where the majority party does not believe in our Constitution and a sizeable part of the opposition party doesn’t either? If the Senate Dems didn’t think Habeas was worth a filibuster, why should we bother to vote for them, much less give them money? It’s time to leave, guys. Only two countries in the world have near unanimity that torture is wrong under any circumstances: Spain and South Korea.

This nation is so deeply and evenly divided, it won’t be long now before we fall. Aren’t we all Americans? Don’t you see the manipulation on the part of both parties to retain their power and wealth? Both parties are trampling all over us, and you are all so blinded by hate (much like the Republicans were blinded by their hate for the Clintons) you’re enabling them to use you to hold onto, or reclaim, power. No Democracy has ever succeeded for much longer than 200 years. (We are a Republic, btw…and therein, hopefully, lies the difference.) Unless, of course, we move to Socialism, at which point, I’m outa here.

except the Dems have already pledged not to conduct investigations. yes, all of this sucks exactly that badly. i can count votes as well as karl rove can, and the Dems should have been able to sustain a filibuster. the fact that they couldn’t is not good. its so not good that its absolutely awful.

The first order of business should the Democrats re-take Congress should be repeal of this bill. There will likely be efforts to challenge its legality in the courts, but the real test of the Democratic Party will come when they’re given the power to reverse this travesty. If it fails that test, I will renounce my membership in it and declare myself an Independent, as should anyone who cares about justice in our society.

Once it is repealed, the House Judiciary Committee should add its drafting and passage to the catalogue of crimes already compiled by Rep. John Conyers and begin immediate investigations into the crimes of the administration and draw up bills of impeachment.

The Bush administration has killed thousands of people under false pretenses. He has looted the treasury, rendered the government a mere husk that can do nothing to protect or enrich its people’s lives, he has broken international law, engaged in torture, rendition, and pre-emptive war–this man needs to be put out of office and handed over to the International Criminal Court along with Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell, and anyone else with responsibility for the obcenity this nation has become.

We owe it to ourselves. We owe it to the world.
