[Angie Paccione joins us in the comments today to discuss her candidacy in the CO-04. Please stop by and give her a great FDL welcome. As always in Blue America threads, please stay on topic and please be polite. Welcome, Angie! -- CHS]
Last week I saw a very disturbing movie called Jesus Camp. You can read my reactions and thoughts at the link. But one thing I have been pondering ever since, was who the hell is bat-shit crazy enough to buy into this severe form of mass psychosis?
My interview with Angie Paccione was a little later on Sunday than I had wanted it to be because she was at church. A lot of Americans go to church on Sundays and Angie descrbed herself to me as "a born again, spirit-filled, evenagelical Christian, one who believes in living it, not legislating it."
I think most Christians who see Jesus Camp will be revolted by many of the scenes: like teaching little children to worship a cardboard cutout of George Bush or the scene defending indoctrination and brainwashing or the scene lamenting that American children don’t love their religion as much as suicide bombers from other religions and are willing to die more readily for those who manipulate religion for political ends. I mean who could relate to this crap?
Marilyn Musgrave (CO-04) is considered to be one of the most fanatic, off-the-wall extremists in the entire spectrum of far right loons running around in Congress. She was even endorsed by the KKK!
This weekend, the widely read Coloradoan published a pre-election profile of their district’s congresswoman.
"Protecting traditional marriage is the most important issue Americans face today, Rep. Marilyn Musgrave said Friday, as she called on social conservatives to support candidates like herself who oppose same-sex marriages. Speaking at the Family Research Council’s 2006 Values Voter Summit, Musgrave, a Fort Morgan Republican, said she agrees with those who say legalized gay marriage would destroy religious freedoms… The Colorado District 4 House member is sponsoring legislation that would amend the U.S. Constitution to ban same-sex marriages. Colorado Sen. Wayne Allard is pushing a similar bill in the Senate. Neither measure has won enough votes to go to the states for ratification."
The cult gathering at which she spoke seeks to recruit mostly feeble-minded people obsessed with a pseudo-religionist mania to work for Republican candidates. Musgrave "urged participants to get involved in politics and elect leaders who share their world view."
Angie Paccione is a normal American. She is secure in her faith and has no problem telling people in her conservative district that she supports marriage equality and, like most Americans, and like most Coloradoans, doesn’t have the same set of priorities as Musgrave.
"It’s one more example of how out of touch she is with Colorado. Holy smokes, we’re at war, we’ve lost nearly 3,000 people and thousands more are maimed. We have over 46 million Americans without health insurance. Weld County, one of her counties, led the country in mortgage foreclosures. You think they care about the federal marriage amendment? This is a fear campaign. [Same-sex marriage] is a civil issue. The churches can decide what they want to sanctify."
Angie supports marriage equality and compares the discrimination faced by gay couples to the discrimination faced by her parents, one of whom is white and one of whom is black.
Angie has spent her entire life building bridges. An educator, former professional basketball player with a Ph.D, she is the much respected Chair of the Democratic Majority Caucus in the Colorado House of Representatives. She looks forward to joining the Congressional Black Caucus and providing the impetus necessary to push through the long-stalled New Homesetad Act, crucial to revitalize devastated rural communities like the ones that dot Colorado’s 4th CD, the Great Plains part of the state.
Unlike most of the Democrats we’ve been talking with at Blue America, Angie feels her race overwhelmningly revolves around local issues.
"It’s not the national sentiment alone that the district is feeling. There’s a unique and very specific ‘Musgrave fatigue’ factor. People are just tired of her; I hear it from farmers, from ranchers, from small businesspeople, from Republicans, Democrats, independents… they’re tired of her ineffectiveness in Congress… People see how she has marginalized her effectiveness with her extremism."
And "extremism" is no exaggeration. Musgrave has the most far right voting record of any of Colorado’s representatives and, in fact, except for two other fanatic maniacs, Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Cathy McMorris (R-WA), has the most reactionary voting record of any woman in Congress– even worse than Mean Jean Schmidt!
Interestingly, Angie thinks the district would let Musgrave slide on the extremism if she could ever get anything constructive done in Congress. But she’s failed… consistently.
Picking a nasty public fight with GOP pork barrel king Don Young (R-AK), Musgrave was able to guarantee that her sprawling rural district got no help with much needed highway projects. And that was just in Musgrave’s first term. While she spent virtually all her time obsessed with the private lives of gay Americans, Colorado’s Eastern Plains have been in the midst of a catastrophic drought, a major calamity for ranchers and farmers. While Ken Salazar, the state’s Democratic Senator was able to get the Republican-controlled Senate to pass a $4 billion agricultural relief bill, he watched helplessly as Musgrave badly bungled the whole thing in the House while the GOP leadership rejected it. Musgrave’s hostile relationship with Speaker Hastert is probably what killed the relief effort.
"People here know how tied she is to special interests and they’ve become acutely aware that she isn’t doing her job… 200 wells were shut down; that means no growing and no harvesting… and no health care premiums. I know how to fight for the people I represent,"Angie told me, who, unlike Musgrave, has a legislative record of major accomplishment
And Musgrave’s 2 terms haven’t only meant health care problems for farmers and ranchers. She’s another Republican who talks about supporting the troops but then screws them with her votes.
"She voted against healthcare for national guard and reservists," Angie explained. "We have to hold these incumbents accountable when they say they support the troops and then vote against adequate armor and healthcare. Just wearing a yellow ribbon isn’t what I call supporting the troops."
So can Angie win? In 2004, even before Musgrave fatigue had sunk in, Stan Matsunkaka came close. Angie has raised far more money than he did, over a million dollars, almost all of it from within Colorado — and 85% of it from people donating less than $100.
All the recent polls show a deadheat within the margin of error. "The code of the West, says Angie, "is ‘live and let live,’ not ‘my way or the highway.’"
She’s an extraordinary candidate and she would be great for Colorado and great for America. We should all do our part at the Blue America ActBlue Page. First 20 donors today get a signed copy of the new book by Judah Freed, GLOBAL SENSE, of which Thom Hartman wrote: "Freed asked himself, what would Tom Paine write today? The result is a provocative, inspiring essay that offers fresh hope for liberty."

Thanks for having me! It was great talking to Howie on Sunday.
GO BLUE!
Welcome to Firedoglake, Angie
Did you see the Think Progress post yet? It has part of the FRC video.
Over at Down With Tyranny I used a picture of Bush and Musgrave making out. I hope that picture is getting a lot of use in the campaign.
Yes, it’s been going all over the Internet in the last hour. She’s her own worst enemy
Hi Howie,
I had been having fun driving around playing “Had Enough” loud enough for people to hear. Windows open, yeah!
Got my “Had Enough, Vote Democratic” stickers on order.
Rock On.
Angie Paccione is running a dynamite radio commerical accusing her opponent, right-wing nutjob Marilyn Musgrave, of “cutting and running” on benefits for veterans.
It’s a wonderful use of the phrase “cut and run.”
I heard Angie on Jay Marvin’s 760am morning show a few weeks back: she really sounded sharp. I seem to recall that Angie is some kind of athelete…is it basketball or track, Angie?
afterthought @ 7
I hope I can get one on my car before the election.
Basketball. I got a scholarship to Stanford, and I was on the US Team. I still got game!!!
Basketball, now I see it…did you coach, too?
Angie, I noticed that Musgrave has a batch of attack ads on YouTube. Is this going to be one of the dirty campaigns of this cycle. She seems like a no-holds-barred kind of extremist.
I coached boys high school basketball at Smoky Hill High School. I was the first and only woman to coach boys varsity at the large school level.
It’s Smear & Fear. That’s all she’s got.
OT? Drumbeating on the last thread, I got EPU’ed on my last comment, still timely I think. And in any event, another example of why taking back the Congress is so important.
Thanks for the illuminating portrait. This shows that when the only bar to public service is ideology, the ideologues you get are often just idiots.
I get the sense that the “third party,” that mass of voters alternately called populist, libertarian, or independent, are now abandoning the Republican party en masse. If that happens, let’s hope that the Democrats know how to act like a proper ruling party and start taking care of the working poor, middle class, and rural Americans who all have been left out of the political debate for too long.
Ritter’s gonna win big in Colorado over Beauprez…I hope the coat tail effect is enough to bring you on over, Angie.
My very best regards.
Angie, I didn’t have room to talk about the 3rd Party candidate in your race. Is this going to help you?
Angie,
It was a pleasure meeting you in Longmont on Saturday (I was one of the Boulder canvassers).
I was originally supporting you because I thought Musgrave was such a terrible Representative, but after hearing the interview on your website, I was really inspired. You’re a great candidate, and I think you’re going to win this one. I’ll certainly keep donating and volunteering; thanks for giving us something to fight for!
Take it back, district by district.
The 3rd party candidate is a former Reagan appointee, and was a Republican for decades. He left the GOP because of the way Musgrave’s people treated him. I don’t blame him for being alienated by the extremist politics.
I should add that he’s definitely drawing votes from Musgrave.
Steve,
Thank you so much for coming from Boulder to walk in Longmont for me! It was great meeting you. That entire day was so inspiring.
According to this poll, the Reform candidate gets 8%, with Musgrave at 46% and Paccione at 42% of likely voters. If we can turn out our side well, we definitely take this one. Musgrave’s supporters are not energized at all (I’ve not seen a single yard sign), while Paccione’s very much are.
Ms. Paccione:
PLEASE tell me you’re going to take your opponent’s remarks about gay marriage being the important issue of our time and contrast them with images of the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, the spiraling deficit, New Orleans, et cetera, for your next campaign ad.
Angie, with the doughnut hole kicking in for seniors all this month, are people understanding that Musgrave = doughnut hole and that it was you who sponsored an anti-price gouging drug bill in the state legislature? Is that dichotomy gaining any traction?
Raptavio,
Done.
Howie,
Now that seniors are being gouged by the donut hole, they are looking for someone with a strong record on protecting retirees. Not only will I push for Medicare reform to permit competitive buying of prescription drugs, I will oppose any efforts to privatize Social Security.
Marilyn is on record supporting a Social Security privatization scheme that would have cost the American people triple what Bush was trying to push through!
Angie, just sent $10 to you just based on what Ive seen on Kos and your site, Best of luck to and turn Colorado BLUE!
Thank you, Kann!
The support from grass roots donors has made my race one of the most competitive in the country!
Great job, Angie, you’re way ahead of me I see. :)
Just received a phone call from a friend who was watching CNN.
CNN are reporting that the Defense Department (Rummy) just hired a PRIVATE company to MONITOR some NEWS CORP for MILLIONS of $$ AND CNN is one of the corporations they are monitoring.
Angie,
Can you tell us a wee bit more about the demographics in your district?
Blue collar, racially mixed, income levels, etc.?
And how much support are you getting from the national party for your GOTV effort?
Thanks in advance for your answers and your willingness to step up to the plate!
It’s a 40% R district, 25% D, and 34% unaffiliated. 85% of the geography is rural — ranches and farms. However, 85% of the people live in the urban/suburban areas in Larimer and Weld counties. Some counties have nearly 40% Hispanic population. Right now, Weld County is leading the country in mortgage foreclosures, and the rural economy is suffering because of a 7-year drought.
Just yesterday I called on Marilyn to sign on to a discharge petition to force the Republican leadership to address agriculture disaster assistance. Today she signed it.
85% of the geography is rural — ranches and farms. However, 85% of the population is urban/suburan in Weld and Larimer Counties.
Right now, Weld County leads the nation in mortgage foreclosures, while the rural economy is suffering because of a 7-year drought.
The district is 40% Republican, 25% Democrat, and 34% unaffilitated. Some counties have as high as 40% Hispanic population.
Hmm. I’m trying to reply, but it’s not going through.
ot
any information about the graymail applications in the spy case/
Okay. It’s working again.
The voter registration of the district is 40% R, 24% D, and 34% unaffiliated. I have a lot of Republicans supporting me, because of the failed leadership in this administration and Musgrave’s extremism.
Geographically, the district is 85% rural. However, 85% of the population is urban/rural in Larimer and Weld Counties. Some communities have Hispanic populations as high as 40%, but overall they are about 8% of the district.
From what I’ve read the district is about 18% Hispanic and the rest 80% white.
You can see a map of the district here.
Hi Angie,
thanks for doing this, and thanks FDL for sponsoring. We just highlighted your opponent’s, ahem, priority over at Daily Kos, and you’re getting much love from the Kossacks. Keep up the good fight! We’re with you all the way.
How much of your state legislative district overlaps with the 4th CD?
Hi, Angie. I did my bit for your campaign. I wish you every success. I’m originally from a rural area and still have family there. They are having very hard times.
I’m glad to hear that your future constituents are tired of the crap.
House District 53 is half of the city of Fort Collins, Larimer County. It’s the largest city in the CD-4.
I’ve been campaigning for over 15 months now, because I want to make sure that everyone in the district has a chance to meet me. That’s the difference btw me and Marilyn. You can’t find her in this district.
Many people say I’ve been to their town more times in 1 year than Marilyn has in the 4 years that she’s been in Congress!
LindyH, Angie’s rural constituents are having an even tougher time than most rural folks. They’re in the midst of a 7 year drought and having a bungling imbecile for a representative who can’t get anything done for them because all she cares about is who’s sleeping with who.
Angie
Coming late to the party as usual, but I had to stop by ActBlue for you. Go get ‘em
Hi Firepups –
What is the URL to spotlight other web sites’ posts? I need your help to SPOTLIGHT a post on Howie’s page. His post is about the ADOPT A CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT campaign.
IF we can get enough coverage in local media, we might be able to make a big difference.
Thank you, Jim. You are going to help me get my message out!
Back in a second. Have to talk to the Rocky Mountain News.
Howie Klein @ 42
Howie, I saw that. I’m all for a candidate who cares for the constituents. That’s what they’re all supposed to do…and don’t.
Hi Howie and Angie!
Being at work, it’s hard to chat much. Keep up the fight for all of us, and I’ll help out at ACT BLUE when I get home.
Thank you!
I love ActBlue, and will be making a small donation tonight.
Thanks for appearing at FDL.

Here’s an idea I saw used. Buy the silver duct tape, (the shiny stuff they use on actual DUCTS – not the grey mucky stuff) and cut out the letters “H A D – E N O U G H?”
You could even buy an alphabet stencil, so you can cut out the letters, peel the tape backing off and artfully display your angst anywhere you like on your car…
LindyH,
Thank you for your support. The communities on the Plains are looking for real leadership, someone who is community to revitalizing rural economies. It is one of the central planks of my campaign!
Marilyn’s priorities lay elsewhere, I’m afraid.
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 47
Thanks. We crossed $208,000 this morning. My goal for November has always been to raise at least $250,000 and I think we’re getting there. And the candidates are getting better and better. Angie’s one of the most remarkable I’ve talked to in the whole season. The idea of getting rid of Musgrave is incredible, of course, but after I met Angie, it almost didn’t even matter how terrible Musgave is because of how phenomenal Angie is. The idea of having a woman like this in Congress is breathtaking.
Oh, wow!
Howie, you’re making me blush!
I didn’t want to embarrass you, Angie/ I thought you were doing an interview with a newspaper. But that’s honestly how I feel.
The Rocky Mountain News wanted a quote, because Marilyn is the only Republican to sign the discharge petition for ag disaster relief. She only did it after I called on her to sign it!

Hi Angie!
It’s good to see your campaign doing so great — Musgrave is really in trouble, and honest Republicans are definitely looking for alternatives.
Have you seen the Democracy Corps Memo on Rural Voters? They are in play for Democrats, because of the incompetence and corruption of the Bush Republicans like Marilyn Musgrave.
I have! Right you are.
I know they included CD-4 in that poll, and it corresponds to what we know. Our rural communities are suffering from Marilyn Fatigue, because she ignores them, and they are tired of her ineffectiveness.
One of my conservative Republican supporters on the Plains puts it this way: Marilyn comes back from Washington to tell us what George Bush wants. We needs someone who will go to Washington to fight for what we need.
Thank you Howie for bringing Angie here. Angie, I’ve been lobbying to get you here for some time.
Angie, between Rep. Musgrave’s efforts to get rid of Bacon-Davis protections after Katrina, her fight to eliminate any of the requirements that guns have child-safety locks and her unending push to legislate morality and destroy the separation of Church and State, there are plenty of things to get me riled up. Do you think she has the support of her (and hopefully soon your) constituents in all of those areas?
Dover B,
In 2004, a lot of people held their nose and voted for her. They gave her a pass. Now they are ready to revoke that pass! They gave her a chance, but now they are looking for a compelling alternative. And I’m it!

Hi Angie,
I met you in Pittsburgh at National Stonewall Democrats Convention back in June (or was it July) where you gave a tremendous and firey speech about the importance of your Congressional race.
Is your support of marriage equality an impediment? Do you think civil unions would be more tolerable to your voters? Or do people just not care (except for the wingnuts that is)?
Also, have you been endorsed by any local Colorado Stonewall Dem clubs?
By the way, if I lived in Colorado I would be knocking in doors for you. :)
Pardon me, but Lou Dobbs is trying to slam the Dem’s efforts to defeat the ID bills that would discourage likely Dems from voting. His “poll” could use a little love:
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/lou.dobbs.tonight/
Apologies to Angie, but these are also her constituents.
Angie Paccione @ 61
AMEN, Sister!!!! It’s like night and day. I was especially taken with what you said about living your faith, not legislating it.
I want to see Marilyn Musgrave coach a men’s high school basketball team.
Roozbeh,
The Declaration of Independence say we are all equal. It’s a truth that is SELF EVIDENT. Therefore, I have no problem supporting marriage EQUALITY!
I have the endorsement of the Colorado Stonewall Democrats and that National.
The people of the Fourth just aren’t buying what Marilyn’s selling. They want results!
Go, Angie, go! I’m one of those proud CO-4 Democrats. I just got my Angie yard sign up at my home in Loveland on Monday night. The pin is on my purse. The bumper stickers go on as soon as I clean a spot on the bumper. ;-) I’ve donated about $120 to your campaign so far, with another $100 to come on payday. My mom is volunteering for the Weld Dems.
And I’m telling everybody I know to vote for you! I met you at the NewWestFest back in 2004, when Stan almost beat Nutball Marilyn and I volunteered at the Democratic booth. I really respected Stan, but I think you have the verve to send Marilyn packing. I haven’t felt this excited about an election since ‘92.
Angie,
I, too, have contributed to your campaign through ActBlue. Thanks to Howie Klein I’ve been able to find out about and support candidates from around the country – it would have been very time consuming to do this type of research on my own.
It’s so refreshing to find a “born again” Christian in public life who supports marriage equality. And in a conservative district, no less.
I hope people respect your honesty even if they don’t agree with you.
Best of luck!
BuggyQ,
Neither have I!
That sounds great Buggy! Is there much of that kind of spirit around Weld County?
dab,
As I say, my values are the most important thing in the world to me. However, I don’t see my values are something to impose on the lives of others. As I tell audiences everywhere: I believe elected officials should live their faith, not legislate it!
Howie Klein @ 66
It’s important for Christians all over this country to recognize that you can be a Christian and vote for a Democrat. You’re on the right track, patiently telling voters who you are and what you stand for, and spelling out the differences between you and the incumbent. We must fight against blind allegiance to the party line.
As an elected official, I believe my duty is to represent all the people in my district, not just those who go to church with me.
Well, Howie, I’m in a difficult position to tell. I work at a community college, which even in a relatively red district is pretty blue. I do know that the people that I talk to are pretty fired up. It’s not just that they’re going to vote Dem, it’s that they’re both excited about Angie and mad as hell at Marilyn.
Now, I’m not likely to hear much from them (I’m pretty outspoken about my political views), but I don’t think the Republican voters are anywhere near that excited. I remember hearing Marilyn at a debate with Stan back in ‘04, and she wasn’t just bad, she was loony. It’s hard to get excited about somebody you have to keep making excuses for.
Hello Angie –
I was born and raised in Colorado and if I still lived there, I’d be pounding the pavement for you. Your kind of attitude is exactly what my home state is desperate for.
I am going to copy and paste this thread for my mom though — she still lives there. And she takes her faith — and especially the living it — very seriously herself. She lives in Colorado Springs, but I’m pretty sure she’ll want to send a donation your way; plus, she’s got a couple of sisters who live in your district who will probably be getting a phone call real soon.
Good luck to you — my home state needs you!!
Welcome Angie, I can feel your energy and hope right through the toobz! We at Firedoglake can see a winner miles away, but we love a little help from Howie. (Hi Howie)
Best of luck and Act Blue, here I come.
Angie,
I’m not a Coloradoan, but I consider every congressional race to be important. That’s why I sent the follow letter to five Colorado newspapers. I hope one of them prints it, and it wins you some votes:
Iraq is fueling terrorism worldwide, the Taliban is resurging in Afghanistan, Iran is pursuing nuclear weaponry, wages for millions of Americans are stagnant, 45 million Americans don’t have healthcare, and Rep. Musgrave still believes that gay marriage “is the most important issue that we face today.”
Or so she declared, to thunderous applause, at last week’s Values Voter Summit in Washington DC. Talk about a one-issue candidate.
If Coloradoans really believe that our nation’s “future is grim” because Congress failed to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment, as Musgrave claimed, by all means, they should reelect Ms. Musgrave. If, on the other hand, they believe it is grim because Musgrave and the do-nothing Republicans have ignored the real business of the country during the last two years, they should vote for change.
Angie,
I live in Atlanta, but have had previous dealings in Colorado. I want to wish you the very best in turfing out Musgrave, and providing real leadership and constituent services in your district.
Thank you, rufo! I hope we can get your aunts out knocking on doors this month!
When I was a sophomore in college, I got involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. That involvement changed my life. I’m not a Johnny Come Lately to this arena. I mean it when I say I live it.
BTW, Angie, my mom had a great letter to the editor in the Greeley Tribune last week. My favorite line was, “I could go on all day about why Marilyn is bad for our district, but I’d much rather talk about how good Angie will be!” I may use it in my letter to the Reporter-Herald!
unpoetaloco,
The future is not grim! I look to a future where these kinds of wedge issue politics that set Americans against each other are over and done with. I want to see a united America again! That is the kind of strong America I believe in!!!
How can anyone say that extending basic civil rights to minorities creates a “grim future”? Are you kidding me?
Buggy,
That was a great letter!
Howie,
Are you going to be in New York on October 6?
Angie,
Thanks for joining us and thanks for the fight you’re waging in your district. It’s an honor to have you here with us.
Hi Angie!
Welcome to Firedoglake and Blue America!
I have a friend from high school living in CO who served in the Navy and is on the opposite of the political spectrum from me. (He listens to Rush and watches Fox News, religiously).
What can I say to him to help him “WAKE UP” to what the Rubber Stamp Republicans like Marilyn have done to damage our Republic?
Angie Paccione @ 85
I’m a major traveller Angie, and I’ve vowed to not leave home until after the eelction. Why, what’s going on in NY on the 6th?
Jacqrat,
One thing he can do is ask Marilyn herself what she’s done for the district.
Another thing he can do is visit http://specialinterestmarilyn.com to get a look at what Marilyn has been doing for Tom DeLay and the special interests in Congress.
My website, http://angie2006.com, has a lot of information about my record and where I stand!
Ask him, do you think the country is on the right track. Or ask him the Reagan Question: Are you better off than you were four years ago?
Howie,
Give Andy a call tomorrow.
Angie,
I read somewhere (SquareState?) that down in the Springs people are getting fed up with tht Republicans because they take the electorate for granted, and assume they will get everyone’s vote. Have you noticed this while campaigning?
Thanks for coming on, and best of luck. Denver is rooting for you!
Angie Paccione @ 75
As a pastor, I agree! Thanks for taking on this race, and for taking on the questionable religious views that some are presenting as the “only” Christian views.
(Some of my women’s hoops friends in nearby Berkeley would have a great deal of trouble with me saying anything nice about a Stanford Cardinal . . . but I’ll explain it to them, and I’m sure they’ll get over it. Eventually.)
PeteCO,
Thanks for reminding me to recommend http://squarestate.net
pacified and the gang at that community are amazing!
I think you are right that Republicans are tired of being taken advantage of. They are tired of having their love of country taken advantage of. They are tired of seeing their liberties being bargained away. They are tired of the 2 2=5 logic of this leadership that has left this country less secure!
sorry for OT, Barack is on the floor.
SquareState, and Colorado Confidential both rock. CoCo is doing some great stuff with the Trailhead thing, and SquareState is a revelation in its coverage of the situation in the Springs. As you’re probably aware, the local tv news coverage covers Denver metro, and not much else, unless it’s snowing.
I’m off to a board meeting of the local domestic violence shelter.
Thank you for having me, Howie and firedoglake. This has been a great experience. Thank you for all of the contributions, and for taking the time to highlight my campaign here.
We’re going to retire Marilyn Musgrave in November. We’re going to win this thing, and I want to thank you for being a part of that!
Best to you,
Angie Paccione
http://angie2006.com
good luck Angie! I saw part of Musgrave’s address to that FRC from this weekend, blech.
She is perfectly awful and a perfect example of what is deeply wrong with our country.
You certainly have what it takes to be a great stateswoman!
Thanks so much for spending some time with us, Angie. Stop by anytime and let us know how we can help ypu. We’re proud to be on the same team with you!

From the Seattle airport… The Spotlight Project now supports Down With Tyranny. You will need to visit the Spotlight page and paste the permalink, but it works. :-)
Murtha event on CSpan2.
Have to sleep, got an early inservice.
Blessings to all of you.
hello and thanks for coming by Ms Paccione, I went over to your website, and was interested in some of your general statements about water issues and the environment. One of the biggest impacts that we are seeing in the Interior West of global warming are long term droughts, the reduction of water sources from snowmelt, the loss of playas and other seasonal wetlands, streams and creeks.
I live down in New Mexico, and travel thru and visit in eastern Colorado often. Some of the problems you’re experiencing up in Colorado we’re also suffering.
So, all of this is the lead up to my questions:
What can you do in Congress and across our mutual state borders to help all of us who live in the interior western states to protect and conserve our water sources? Will you work to make oil & gas exploration less toxic to our land and water? How can we support and protect our rural communities as the urban sprawl edges ever outward?
OK, that was three questions, sorry about that. You don’t have to answer them all. I just don’t get to ask questions of a Congressional candidate that often.
It looks like you’ve got a very interesting district to run in, a few dense population centers, exurban sprawl, and genuine farm and cattle-growing areas. Good luck, I wish you all the best.
PS: CSpan 2 is a VetPac event featuring Vet candidates, if you’re interested.
xo
took me so long to write up my questions, Ms Paccione left the building.
dangit, it this is what being EPU’ed means?

Thanks again, Mark.
Vets running for office, not sure if only Fighting Dems, on c-span 2 now.
Ruby Tuesday @ 103
Yep. The classic.
On C-SPAN2, just heard Jay Fawcett, who is a retired AF LTC, speak. He’s impressive – he’s at ease while speaking, can make small jokes (”It’s good to have a Marine ahead of you”), and chose to talk about today’s votes on the “Military Commissions Act”. He’s running for the CO-5 district. Who is he? Is he a progressive?
Update: Nevermind. He’s on the Blue America page.

Murtha speaking with the vets:
“There’s an intensity out there I’ve never seen before.”
His time includes Watergate.
It’s happening, people, keep it coming.
Cujo359 @ 107
Don’t know much about Fawcett yet, but he’s running against a real gem in Doug Lamborn. Lamborn won a five-way race for the Republican nomination by using every dirty trick in the book. Joel Hefley, the guy they’re running to replace, was so appalled by Lamborn that he refused to endorse him. This has given Fawcett a big leg up. There are a bunch of folks–including a bunch of Republicans–endorsing Fawcett. Don’t let that turn you off–it’s about the only way a Dem can win in CO-5, which is the home of Focus on the Family. He’s also been endorsed by Wes Clark.
I hope that helps!
Jack Murtha on CSPAN2: State Dept. poll released today says that 80 percent of Iraqis want us out of Iraq. Anyone see this poll yet?
Cujo– I think this is the one– wolfie said it was 70%.

what is not funny at all is the difference in the two headlines here:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/w…..nion_x.htm
and from the Sydney Morning Herald linked to above:
spin? Sorta like the different covers of Newsweek this week. International vs Domestic. Same poll.
Iraqi civilian and security force deaths in 2006. Notice the lack of commas.

Anyone who sees this movie, JesusCamp, who is not convinced that this form of brainwashing of children is a form of child abuse, is crazy.
Wow, isn’t this kind of what happened when The great flood was forced onto the earth and only one ark was saved? People are crazed in the name of God !
angie @ 5:21 pm (#111) Actually, that appears to be a different poll that shows similar results (they didn’t ask quite the same questions). Here’s the WaPo article about State’s poll:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..01561.html
And yes, it looks like it’s more like 70 percent than 80.
hmmm, all three articles cite the U of Maryland…
KO ripping the NY Post a new one!
Olbermann talking about the awful NY Post story about the white powder he received in the mail.
The Post revealed details that the government asked people not to reveal, in order to help the investigation.
He was in the hospital for 10 hours even though he repeatedly asked to be sent home.
“WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED HERE.”–Olbermann
Choosing between the terrorists and the FBI, the Post chose…to run a story that the FBI *begged* everyone to play low key so they could do their investigation.
When the Fox reporter was kidnapped in Iraq they called CNN and asked that the story be kept quiet. CNN was happy to comply. Now a Murdoch paper is to release confidential details of a story that the FBI wished to keep quiet. Olbermann says the next time the right wants cooperation in such a case, they will…do the right thing, because “we are still human beings here.”
There was so much more. Hope c&l got this.
angie @ 116
Must be why the numbers look so similar …
Here’s what fooled me, from the Sydney paper:
Which, I suppose, is why they were similar.
*Keith O eviscerated the NY Post with his commentary.
*Drudge is running a header that the Senate is in play for the Dems…..
*Washington Times employee nabbed in sting.
*Giuliani defends Bill Clinton’s efforts in fighting terrorism.
*K Street lobbyists start hedging money to Democrats—yuck…….
The democracy is hanging by a thread.

egregious @ 5:39 pm (#117)
The NYP story mentioned the substance that was mailed in the letter. Normally, that’s one of those things that investigators will keep to themselves since it does nothing to inform the public and it’s a way to know if someone offering information about a crime knows something he didn’t read in a newspaper.
New thread, yesterday’s warnings, or something like that.
hi this is a bit off topic but my winger buddy was going off on clinton and quoting some book written by one of his military staffers … possibly the guy who carried the “football”…claiming clinton had snipers calling in saying they had bin laden in their sights and clinton being too busy to respond with the kill order…this sounds like typical winger b.s. but i’m curious as to where/who is pushing it seeing as all the ridiculing him for being obsessed with osama at the time
o/t o/t been lurking here for 2-3 yrs thanx for all the good writng and hard work
reddog @ 122
Reddog, you can tell your buddy that is a debunked rumor that was recycled on Disney’s 9-11 mockumentary. It has as much truth to it as “Salman-Pak” and “Able Danger”.
thanks ifthet…
still curious as too where they got it from and who did the debunking..
has anyone ever commented that that arguing with wingers is like an infinite game of whack-a-mole
Delurking, too, to say I’m tickled to see Angie here at FDL. I’m a Denverite who used to live in Fort Collins … wish I were there so I could vote with you, Angie. Good luck!
I am a Minnesotan who thinks the future of the Democratic party is in 2 areas… the first is Barack Obama and what he represents.. young , intelligent, and the best of diverse America and the second is the wave of Democrats coming from the Intermountain West states including Colorado (Montana, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming) … keep pounding away with commonsense Angie and show how ridiculous and truly marginal and out of the mainstream your opponent is…
reddog @ 124
Yes, it is. Although I think moles suffer by the comparison.
Wingnut fantasy debunked
Howie wrote: “But one thing I have been pondering ever since, was who the hell is bat-shit crazy enough to buy into this severe form of mass psychosis?”
Millions of them, Howie. Millions.
For them, being batshit crazy is a STRENGTH, not a weakness.
Christianity has always been the lazy man’s religion. The particular evil genius of St. Paul of Tarsus was in how he set it up that way. In most religions prior to Pauline Christianity (and even in some with us today, particularly in the Orient), those who subscribe to the religion must DO SOMETHING in order to practice it. With Christianity, you must do nothing but BELIEVE, and follow the commands of the priesthood. Thinking for yourself is dangerous, doubt of any kind is forbidden. To many people, such submissivness is desireable for the very reason that they DON’T have to think for themsleves. It makes their brains hurt. It’s so much easier to surrender and give up any personal responsibility for your own soul.
Sadly, none of this doctrine can really be traced directly to the humble rabbi-carpenter from Galilee. “Saint” Paul is the one responsible.
