Comments on: Taking Issue with “Just a Comma”

I am amazed that nobody here understands what Bush’s “comma” comment really meant.

It comes from a fundamentalist code-speak reference: “Never put a period where God puts a comma”.

Bush was signalling his fundie base that things would get better, so they shouldn’t worry.

This is Fundie-speak, or as Steve Gilliard so eloquently termed it, “dog whistle speak”.

If you listen carefully to Bush, a lot of what we normal humans hear as bizarre mumbo-jumbo coming out of his mouth is really deliberate “dog whistle speak” reassurances to the ultra-conservative Fundies that make up much of that 30% that we just can’t comprehend.

Frightening isn’t it? There is a huge underbelly of America that not only harbours strange creepy beliefs, but they also speak in their own secret code language to each other.

If only they didn’t wear shoes, so we could see their cloven hooves….

I noticed that three and half years into the Iraq war Bush still confused Iraq with Iran at least momentarily in that comma interview. Was he subconsciously let it slip his real intention to invade Iran soon?

I was watching CNN yesterday………Jack received thousands of emails…….

Over at ePM we have been working on a piece re: FDR and the New Deal. Now FDR had to deal with Hoover’s policies that did not work. FDR asked academia for help “Brain Trust”. Okay, FDR had balls…..big ones!!! But he had help from American Citizens.

Hey…let’s be the “Brain Trust” and get the vote out……let’s vote a congress in that will turn the corner. We need change NO FEAR.

I found the “comma” remark weird. Was he grasping for a word like “footnote?”

OT..Just finished reading 584 comments at Late Nite. There was no trash.. there is no other site that I know of where I could read the comment section and not have to read through a ton of trash. The amazing thing to me is that this is true for every thread.. day after day. How do you do it?

It was all Condi’s fault, she was the National Security Advisor, but no one told her how to do her job. She was playing her piano for the Pres when she should have set his ass down and told him to stop clearing brush at the ranch and pay attention to the assessment that someone might use airplanes to attack us. And instead he said to the CIA briefer-O.K. you’ve done your job, go back to Washington. Help may be on the way with our next elections.

I was listening to ‘the Young Turks’ on air America this morning while driving to work and they were all over the ‘comma’ quote. I decided that I am not doing enough to fight this regime and resolved that even if I only talk to every neighbor I see on my daily dog walks, it would at least be a start.
