GordonM @
204

Wrong about why, but possibly right. If Dems capture both houses this Nov., we will NOT get the presidency. It will be an electoral generation before the american people allow one party control.

Say what? What have we been living with the last six years? Or do you have a different view of Congress and the Presidency up there in Maine? From where I sit, we already have one party control.

Um, minor quibble. Nirvana shocked the world with FOUR chords. My reaction to all that was a little different; it was more like - hey, how did my music get on the radio?

Major slag: the shrieking mobs on the right are funny? That’s a new one. Assassinate Chavez! Haw, haw, hawr! Mexicans are lazy! AHAHAHAHAH! Macaca! Whoooo-weee! Ragpicker! HAhahahaha. Black men are bad quarterbacks! HARHRHAAHRHAAA H GAHGHGH! The Senate is vicious because there are girls in it now! Hoooo ohooooh oh ooooo ho h oo hooo! Let’s kill Supreme Court justices! AAH AHAHA HAHA TOO FUNNY!

BOR was funny once; he said that “‘God’ is not a religious term”. That was very funny. Unfortunately it doesn’t count because he was serious.

Perry Bacon, Jr? I promise to laugh every time I hear your name. And should I ever meet you face to face, I will also laugh. A little too loud, a little too long, and leaning in a little too close as I laugh, right in your face.

Look, Perry, let me explain it in terms that even you might understand. Just because Rush Limbaugh does cute impressions does not mean the Right has a sense of humor. Period.

P.S. Anyone notice how the “left is not funny like those entertainers on the right” meme always comes from those sort of people with so little sense of humor that you know that groups of small children will instinctively clown them?

Once the world heard Kurt Cobain’s guitar, all that spandex and hairspray and makeup on the likes of Ratt, Warrant, and Poison was revealed for the preening frippery that it was.

HEY, that preening frippery helped me survive the toxic musical dumping ground known as the ’80s. You think Wall of Voodoo or Men Without Hats was gonna get you outta bed and off to work in the morning. NOT. One more bad night with the Cure, and I was ready to shoot myself while jumping off the roof.

When my 12-yr-old nephew stopped by, nearly breathless, waving a tape cassette around and searching for a player, little did I know the world was about to change. I remember those first strains of “Smells like Teen Spirit,” and it was done. I was done.

Blogs are to political discourse what Nirvana was to music. Anyone writing the kind of clap trap hooey Perry Bacon did for Time has an axe to grind, period.

The Time piece said:

progressive bloggers are pushing the Democratic Party so far to the left that it will have no chance of capturing the presidency in 2008.

Wrong about why, but possibly right. If Dems capture both houses this Nov., we will NOT get the presidency. It will be an electoral generation before the american people allow one party control.

(I live in rural Maine, and help with the counting of our paper ballots. It is a very common pattern in general elections: president from one party; everybody else from the other.)

I can’t believe anyone can say this:

But even the angriest people on the right tend to be funny. Books like this one are a depressing reminder of how important it is for writers to have a slight sense of humor about themselves, if they want to be taken at all seriously

Like John Lennon once said, “Leftyblog is the ni-, uh, woman of the world.”

Too bad being peaceful, nurturing and compassionate is such a bad thing in the rough, tough USofA.

Another reason for the Blogosphere’s continuing growth at the expense of Traditional Media (beyond “It’s The War, Stupid”) is its ability to keep up in Real Time. Who wants news/opinion that’s so ‘5 minutes ago’ when you don’t have to settle for that anymore?
