This is my visceral reaction to Katie Couric’s puff piece interview now on 60 Minutes…which we’ve turned off. Bigoted, bombers of Birmingham…Couric herself must’ve choked over that one…talk about a shameless reach.

Condoleeza Rice is trying to burnish her image on the coffins of four little dead girls in Birmingham…whose life experience, and the life experience of the civil rights movement, she had absolutely no connection to nor concern for.

Shameless. Feel free to correct me if you think I’m wrong. Meanwhile, having sampled Couric’s news and now Couric’s interviewing on 60 Minutes…no mas.

No offense meant, but please remember a little history.

1858. Same place in the political cycle. Dred Scott decision. A black man has no rights a white man is bound to respect.

The fact is that we’re on autopilot, Nixon’s autopilot, and we will remain there until we have leaders who will point us in a new direction rather than just argue over the current one.

And you can do a lot of that work right here, right now.

I grew up during Vietnam. A war with a draft. I grew up in a Northern California suburb, where you knew all your neighbors and you went home when the street lights came on.
In the early 70s, we had 3 of our street’s boys get drafted and shipped off to Nam.

Two out of three came home. The other two clearly had some issues. Beer and weed on the porch was tacitly accepted by the neighborhood as a returned soldier’s due.

Jimmy hung himself after three years home. He had told some of the kids he had been tortured.

Tom. who never spoke another word after arriving in SFO, walked the street, back and forth, probably 5-10 times a day. The adults used to tell us not to bother him.

Tom put a gun in his mouth in late 1976 as I was walking home from 6th grade. I will never forget the picture of his mother walking out with the gurney, leaning over and kissing him, not crying.

I remember asking my mother why his mom wasn’t crying (as my mother was sobbing)
She said he was tortured and that he had died a long time ago. And that now his mom was at peace that he was no longer in pain.

And now we’re talking about torture in America…

Had to light a candle for my own little vigil of sorts.

I am beyond disgusted. The Democrats did not stand up for PISSING ON THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS. That should have been a no-brainer. Where, exactly, is the line for these fools?
I’ve pointed this out before, but the freakin’ Geneva Conventions were ratified UNANIMOUSLY by the Senate in 1949. Memo to Harry Reid: You aren’t going way out on a limb to express support for something that EVERY senator, right after WWII, voted for. Bush’s grandfather voted for it. Joe McCarthy voted for it. To oppose it or tinker with it OR STAND BY AND WATCH IT GET TINKERED WITH now is to go to a far-right CrazyLand even Joe McCarthy would not enter. Senator Reid, it’s ok to be to the left of McCarthy. Why aren’t the Democrats pointing out 1) it was passed unanimously by post-war generation. Vague stuff doesn’t pass unanimously. 2) Bush’s grandfather was right to vote for it. Bush is wrong to oppose it. The Republican Congress has lost its principles.

This is the perfect issue to point out the difference between the GOP of today and the GOP of yore. It is the perfect wedge to make not-so-extreme Republicans and libertarian Republicans uncomfortable. Fight, you damned fools, FIGHT!

Well, watching Rice with Katie and I am flabbergasted and sickened.

She can play a piano. That’s about all she’s good for.

And some day she’s hoping to be able to drink coffee again.

What a load of crap. Pakistan sent the Taliban to ruin and then control Afghanistan. The Afghans and the Afghan mujahadin were trying to get rid of the Russian invaders, the Russian killers, and live in their country in peace.
