I’ll be on Keith Olbermann tonight at 10 minutes after the hour talking about…well, whatever it is Keith wants to talk about.
In the mean time, there’s a new ARG poll that puts Ned Lamont within two points of Joe Lieberman, the second within a week (the first was Rasmussen). It’s well within the margin of error, and Ned is ahead amongst independents for the first time. While polls vary widely in their methodology and reliability, all of them seem to be trending in Lamont’s favor.
And if you haven’t bought Keith’s new book yet, you can do so here. Remember he’ll be joining us for the FDL Book Salon on Sunday, November 5, so get it read if you wanna join the party.

Keith!
YAY Jane!!!!!
Jane, you do get around…have a good time!!
Go Jane, you give him a big ole hug for all of us!
Anyone know where we can watch this on line?
Keith!
Fitz!
Excellent! I look forward to hearing what Keith wants to talk about.
OT but, I think I just found my theme song… I’m sure some of you can relate! (plus, everyone loves Weird Al)
TRex– I don’t think they stream it but it does replay at midnight (I think that the right time for the east coast)
What a treat! My mom is tuning in too! and my dtr who has KO as a hero on her myspace page is telling all her friends …
Bolting Joe is a dependent Independent.
If you run out of things to talk about, there’s always El Diablo:
http://www.voanews.com/english…..-voa65.cfm
Rock it out, Jane…Congrats!
I was out this afternoon, and just now posted a reply to a couple of things people had asked about on the last thread for anyone looking.
I looked at the internals of the ARG poll and they had oversampled Repubs, which were 26% of respondents but, IIRC, only 22% of resgistered voters, and undersampled independents which were 39% of respondents and are 44% of resgistered voters.
If you adjusted for the partisan percentages Ned actually comes out ahead, as he led Joe 47% to 45% among Independents, and trailed 15% to 66% among Republicans. If anything this race is a dead heat. And the Joementum is going to Ned.
Do you mean you’re on RIGHT THIS MINUTE??
Did I miss it?
three two one…..
No, kristinejoy.
and a linky from our lotus…….Americans displeased……..

Yeh Jane!
It’s OUR Jane!
A Star! A Star! A Star!
Nice!
Jane is in San Francisco? That’s the famous row of victorians behind her.
natural and intelligent and lovely Jane!
awesome.
Morris Sheppard @ 14
that’s good info.
Now take a look at the Webb-Allen numbers and see if you can make me feel better about that race. (sigh).
Monk @ 24
Nob Hill… Teddy?
Yeah Jane….
You’re such a cutie!
I was going to take a nap before a board meeting, but…….?
lovin’ my new MacBook!
Youtube it please, for those of us who have a wingnut filter on their Teevees
wow what a great interview– his questions are great and she is getting it all out there.
woo hoo!!
awesome job Jane!
OMG Jane you rocked!!!!!!!!!!!
JANE! JANE! JANE! That was so great. You rock, rock, rock
WAY TO GO, JANE!!!!!
WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JANE! I’m swoooooooning! Home run!
Jane, you just finished up on Olbermann. You looked great and came off intellegent and knowledgable. Way to go.
So, what was it like to talk to Mr. O????????
Well done, Jane.
Woo Hoo, nice show Jane.
A little love from Keith before we give a lot of love to Keith!
What, no Kobe?
He missed his moment of fame.
Jane’s smile was electric.
Jane, you were very good. Smart, polished, a real natural on the tube….you’ve got to do that more often!
Good Job Hamsher.
Hey there Jane-
Funny … I’m a daily reader of Kos, DU, Atrios, WRH, MyDD, and more, so I’m surprised that I’ve never come across your blog before … but I saw your appearance on Olbermann, and girl, you were smokin’! Congrats.
Wow. I wonder what the traffic is going to be like. That was one BIG plug for the blog. How exciting! Thank you so much, Jane, for letting the world know what we are doing here and for the shout out to the amazing batch of commenters here.
Way to stick up for Clinton and the blogosphere…. I like how Keith keeps mentioning “the blogs” – (”blogosphere” sounds almost as cheesy as “the net”)
Oh yeah there isn’t a better place to be than in the company of Keith Olbermann, a brave, patriotic man!!!
WTG!
OH MY GOD!!! JANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU and F D L are WHUTS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I CANT LEAVE KEITH OUT!!!! MAN COUNTDOWN IS THE GOLD STANDARD!!!!

Now that’s what I call Live Blogging!
It’s about time. I’ve been wondering why folks like you and David Brock and Glenn Greenwald, etc., aren’t on the cable talkfests.
I’m watching you now…Good job.
On Lamont: Since he is now leading amongst Dems and Indies, and he is not likely to improve amongst Repubs (Lieberman’s crowd), couldn’t we get some benefit by helping Schlesinger pull as many votes as possible? Every vote for Schlesinger comes from Lieberman. All we have to do is push the fact that Schlesinger is the official Repub candidate and party line voters will drift his way.
Nice Jane. Incredibly relaxed and natural.
how was the hair?
WOOHOO
COOL!
I love Keith. U were great.
Didn’t have time to check FDL earlier, so what a surprise to see Jane on Countdown!
(I jumped up and down and waved my arms as you were saying goodbye, Jane. I know you couldn’t see me, but I was ‘way too amped to just sit there!)
Jane Hamsher @ 53
Gorgeous!
Jane! Great job. Countdown is a great show.
Like being on the cover of Time.
Your hair was fabulous.
Jane Hamsher @ 53
Perfect! ; ) LOL
i missed it, i didn’t even read this post till 30 minuts into olbermann’s show.
i hope john at c&l taped it and will post it.
… not too shabby, Hamsher!
Jane, you did us proud!
Jane Hamsher @ 53
Perfect, just like your performance.
Uh-oh, Jane. Stephanie Miller is going to bitch-slap you tomorrow morning ;~) Way to represent the Lake.
Keeping in mind (my mind) Senator Clinton’s support for keeping our troops in Iraq and her Middle East views in general, makes me very uncomfortable. And I resent Clinton being forced down my progressive throat. In terms of the Middle East situation, Hillary is not a progressive by any stretch of the imagination. She’s almost a neo-con in her hawkish views. As I have said before, if the Senator is forced upon me as my party’s nominee for president in 2008, I’ll vote for her. But I won’t like it one bit. I dearly wish she would change her attitude in this most critical and essential area.
Excellent interview Jane!!
WOOHOO!!
A stellar appearance on KO! Here’s to many more!
K.O. better mind that ‘The Voice‘ doesn’t get wind of this unseemly collaboration…Rupert prevails!
;>)
You clean up pretty good!
Yay Jane! You did great. You hit all the marks, and even got in plugs for “Had Enough” and ActBlue!
Fantastic job. And your hair was perfect.
The reason that Jane, Kos, Sirota, Brock, etc don’t get called for the head shows is because THEY DON’T FOLLOW THE SCRIPT!
OOHH RAAHH for not following the script!
(Not yellin’, just excited!)
Wow. What a lovely, articulate, sharp woman! Go Jane!
first visit here, thanks to your appearance on countdown. you were very articulate and there was great clarity in your answers to keith’s questions. bravo!
Fansastic and amazing!
Great job!
Oklahoma kiddo @ 65
Jane did say about the Big Dog: “…whatever you think of his politics…”
I think she was addressing that to people like you and me.
Congrats, Jane! I can’t wait to see it.
Just spoke with Jane and told her how well she did on Countdown. And that apparently her segment was only a block from my house, since the Alamo Square painted ladies Victorians behind Ms. Hamsher just scream “San Francisco.”
Yay, Jane, well done. More please!
Monk @ 24
“The Painted Ladies” Monk…home, sweet, home.
Well done.
Brava Jane.
Jane, you’re beautiful.
And that takes nothing away from your accomplishments. Just an observation, since I had never seen the real you.
Kind of lagniappe on top of the intellect.
I missed it, I hope someone posts a clip. I want to make sure Jane’s hair is in order.
Jane, You were fantastic.
diogenes @ 69
For a girl. ;)
I would just like to extend a warm welcome all visitors who recently found out about this website through Jane’s appearance on Countdown!
If you like Keith Olberman, you are going to love Jane Hamsher and the gang over here at FireDogLake!
Again, welcome! Pull up a chair and get comfortable.
Jane and Keith
Sittin’ in a tree….
Only kidding – you were great, Jane! And you guys were great together! What a team!
pssssst…did you take Keith aside after the segment and tell him to DUMP DANA MILLBANK?
Talk about your beltway WHORES – that guy is it! He says talking about the morality of torture can’t get any traction and is LESS IMPORTANT than the fact that the republicans are TALKING ABOUT NATIONAL SECURITY and getting the megaphone. Gawd, I hate that guy! How jaded can you get?
That’s the first question I’m gonna ask KO when he’s here at FDL – why why why Dana Millbank? Gack!
To Jane:
1. You ROCKED.
2. You included so many good points.
3. You are totally photogenic; TV will demand more of you.
On behalf of fdl folk who didn’t watch this yet, let’s get going on some content, shall we?
—questions about the Pres. Clinton meeting
—inevitable speculation about Hilary ‘08
—will the blogs become insiders? JH: no because commenters keep us honest
—Lieberman certainly knows who we are, haha
—WE ARE FOCUSED ON ‘06 ELECTIONS
Keith: you’ll need new material in Nov :)
Help me out here folks. I used up all my oxygen on the Howie Klein thread.
TeddySF, may I jump into this congratulatory festival and thank YOU for your “Had Enough” campaign here at the Lake!!
Jane Hamsher @ 53
I was going to make a Joe Biden hair crack, but I have too much respect for you to do that. Way to go!
Blonde on Green, quite nice-
Clear, and Smiling the WHole way thru, better and natural towards the end, when compared to the beginning-
Excellent interview-
THank you-
I liked your answer to Keith’s question about that danger that big bloggers would get too establishment or something.
As you pointed out, in an interactive blog there will always people to tell you about it if you start looking at things from the wrong place, or even seeming to.
So don’t let that meeting with Big Dog go to your head, you know you would be one of the first to hear about it if it did. ;-)
Now Jane, there you go totally ruining our reputation! How on earth can they keep thinking of us as rabid revolutionaries if you keep sounding so reasonable in public? Sheesh you could have least been wearing a Che tshirt or something! :)
KO repeats in three hours (in most time zones) for those who missed it.
We should make some of our trademark erudite comments to show off for the new traffic. Mary, ya got anything in the bank?
Jane, you looked very comfortable in front of the camera. Your answers were very natural and you did not come across as nervous.
Very nice comfortable conversation and you got many points out there without looking like you were trying to get your points out there. Nice!

Yes, you were gorgeous! But the great thing is, in addition to being gorgeous, you come across as smart, kind, and fun to listen to. I agree, you’re going to be in demand.

Don’t hit me but it looked like you were trying to channel Veronica Lake. All in all I thought you did fantastic, though.
OT
Alice S. Fisher was confirmed today 61-35 to be Assistant Attorney General to head the Criminal Division. She had served there as a recess appointment. Aside from never having prosecuted a case and having only minimal trial experience of any kind according to Sen. Leahy, her other doubtful qualifications include being big on torture, the Patriot Act, and apparently having connections to Tom Delay’s defense team. Sounds like Bush’s welfare program for incompetent cronies is still going strong.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_S._Fisher
Democrats who voted for the nomination were:
Bayh (D-IN)
Dorgan (D-ND)
Feingold (D-WI)
Lincoln (D-AR)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Roberts (R-KS)
Salazar (D-CO)
Chafee also voted for.
Perhaps lhp if she is around or one of our other attorneys has a comment?
everhopeful @ 86
There are several in addition to Millbank that have to go. It would be great to let KO know that we are thrilled with his growing success and think it would be even better if he could get a whole possee of truth tellers rather than stenographers on his show.
maybe next time you should should be clearing brush?! I’ll send you some safety glasses and gloves, show Fredo how it’s done.
Bravo, Jane!
I’m sure the opposition research had cued “strident feminist” and what they got was “pleasant, reasonable neighbor”. Just the right tone. And Keith’s hair looked fine.

Yes, I think a full vote of the assembly will be required.
Jane should replace Dana Milhack of the WaPOO and she could do the TomKat crap also. Are we ready for Countdown-FDL?
glad I watched Countdown again. Good work I think. Its good to see you are smart on TV as well, a different skill that sitting down and writting/re-writting.
I liked how you did not get all media crazy over the Hillary stuff and diffused it as just more of the same old story – but at the same time did not brush it off, etc.
Do people want more content, or to wait and watch for yourselves?
egregious @ 117
Yes.
Wow, Jane – I didn’t get the heads up in advance and this is one of the first KO shows I’ve seen live. You were absolutely fabulous, and the hair was loverly! I’ll try to contain my swooning :-)
OK, now off to buy the KO book and the usual lurking. Can’t wait for the next appearance – its just what the blogoshere (and the country) needs. Let’s hope its the first of many…
You done good!!!!
Great job!
My clueless ex was sitting next to me and said,”Now, who’s she?” (guess he noticed the vigorous nodding of approval!)
I turned, indignant, and said,: “Firedoglake. One of my favorite blogsites.”
He had passed them off as rabid progressives before. By the end of the interview, you had him impressed!
You were that good!
WooHoo!
Jane,
Are Will and James still on the job? It would be great to get this breakthrough into the trad. med. into the mix.

OK people, Swopa has spoken. As has Jane :D
Let’s see some CONTENT.
give me the Full Monty!
Great, GREAT job, Jane! I’m with Jay, et al, in suggesting that you should do this way more often…
Got the Olbermann book today via Amazon. Gonna bail for a bit!
Riesz Fischer @ 75
Strictly speaking, I disagree with Senator Clinton’s support for keeping troops in Iraq, and her Middle East views in general. As far as I know, all the other views the Senator holds I would be in tune with. But I have this, some might say silly notion, that maintaining American military presence in Iraq and not working, as did President Clinton, tirelessly, to solve the Palestinian-Israeli situation is wrong, immoral and criminal. And without world peace, nothing else matters. Period.
It is NOT the large Dog’s politics I am concerned with (I voted for him twice), it’s Senator Clinton’s views on the Middle East I find so very disquieting.
With the exception of the Senator’s position on Iraq, I think Hillary Clinton would make a fine president.
egregious @ 124
Heh, I think everyone is out having a cigarette, Egy. Check back in a few. ;)
egregious @ 117
I do, please. Even if I watch it later, I’m interested in your take on it.

http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=st…..ke&r=1
With apologies for swedish jetlag here ya go.
KO introduces Jane and she flashes her million dollar smile. Redstate faints.
The newsworthy item, bloggers meet with Bill Clinton. So what’s it all about. We are the grassroots not Washington insiders, good to talk with him about what’s going on in the country and about our concerns. Photo that shows half the table plus BC, mostly the male bloggers [what’s up with that Quaker meeting?]
Then the inevitable speculation about Hilary running in ‘08. Well of course she’s running. Peter Daou was hired to help her, he understands the importance of bloggers. [I had a little concern here that if the interview abruptly ended here it would look like a HC commercial. But there was more.]
Will you become insiders as you gain power? No because our commenters give us feedback and keep us honest. Thousands of commenters. If we would become too inside we would hear about it right away.
AT THIS POINT JANE TAKES TOTAL CONTROL. Not about the star power of the Clintons, but about what we are trying to accomplish on the blogs.
Not sure how Lamont election got raised. Lieberman certainly knows who we are! Others will take notice.
Our focus:
—WE ARE FOCUSED ON ‘06 ELECTIONS and will worry about ‘08 later. This was not in response to a question iirc. Keith responds, you’ll need new material in Nov :) Jane indicates there is plenty.
Bottom line: A STAR IS BORN. Keith was enchanted.
Your steno servant did not live blog this time, being too caught up in watching live.
Please forgive mistakes in transcription. Other content providers jump in please??
Eureka Springs, AR @ 136
Feingold has always said that he give the President wide lattitude in making appointments like this – but he views judicial nominees differently (especially for the Appellate and Supreme Courts) because they are lifetime appointments.
Somehow I’m always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Jane –
I and a couple others were “live-blogging” your appearance in the thread below. Take a peek if you like!
The main upshot of my comments was that you do a great job representing all of us here, and I for one (although I’m sure I speak for all of us) truly appreciate it.
You were even generous in mentioning us, the commenters! For those who didn’t see it, Jane said we’re the ones who keep her honest (aw shucks, Jane).
Really — this is the mark of someone special — Jane kept the focus on OTHERS. She used the opportunity to speak of Howie’s fabulous work, and about the wonderful Had Enough song, and about the commenters and readers here.
Jane projects the whole movement, all of us, the grassroots — she’s not about ME, ME, ME!
Think about it — Jane could have used her time before the camera to “talk HERSELF up,” to position HERSELF (as so many, many other talking heads do), but instead she pointed toward the glory which is the grassroots and all the individuals who care about the beloved country we so desperately want to save before it’s too late.
And she did it with grace and ease.
Jane, love, thanks (again) for all you do!
meta @ 131

You’re right. The Fisher vote was Sept. 19.

Wow. This place is getting so high class. I feel I shall have to get some fancy blogging pajamas from my local bloggery so I can post here. Wow. Now, if we can just get TRex on McLaughlin Group or something.
Other content providers jump in please??
Good job, eGreg. I also remember that she kinda laughed off that Terrie McCauliff being interviewed was a possible campaign blunder by saying that 2008 is just around the corner in political time and she (and by implication everyone else)of course is exploring all their options.
egregious,
By george, you got it!
Fine summary, telling it like it was.
Thank you.
Surely our friend at C&L will have it up as soon as humanly possible . . . hint, hint.
Mark @ News Corpse @ 51
Yes – I can say the campaign is not averse to individuals (on their own volition) helping out with the Schlesinger campaign – for all the reasons you mention.
Eureka Springs, AR @ 137
Feingold does not vote against a president’s non-judicial nominees based on ideology – he believes the president has the right to have who he wants if it’s not too egregious. He has always done this on principle.
Can’t wait to get home and watch it in repeat.
FDL is all’s growns up.
: )
great job egregious. Keith brought up that line about Lieberman first iirc. Jane also talked about Act Blue & The Squirrel Nut Zippers and Rickie Lee song.
What Suzanne said at #95
op99 @ 149
Sadly, Alice Fisher is egregious. It’s too bad that he went along with this one. IIRC Marcy had something about her and the Plame case long long ago.
op99 @ 148
Whhaaa?
A senator with principles?
little early snark. Sorry, all. ;)
I liked your shoes!
trueblue @ 154
Yeah, he also voted for Ashcroft based on the same principle. One of the few things I have trouble forgiving him for.
Thanks Mrs.K8 for live blogging and noting that our tommy yum’s Have You Had Enough and howie klein’s BlueAmerica are an important part of what we do.
Intelligence/honesty/music at the speed of thought: the new paradigm.
For history: Sadly, Alice Fisher is egregious… AHEM. Altho a girl, I am most decidedly NOT Alice Fisher.
MA Gov: Patrick’s Big Win Augers Big Changes
By Frederick Clarkson
09/20/2006 08:47:47 PM EST
Deval Patrick won a victory in the primary to be the Democratic nominee for governor of Massachussetts that was so large and so sweeping — that it signals a major shift in the state politics that everyone is still slowly taking it in. It is a victory that further confirms the meaning of Ned Lamont’s upset over Sen. Joe Lieberman in the recent Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Democrats want real Democrats and they want party and governmental policy reform.
The Patrick campaign issued a press release today with some amazing statistics: Patrick won 321 of the 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth, and every state senate district in the Democratic primary.
http://www.politicalcortex.com…..204747/636
Re: Alice Fisher
My main concern is that she’ll manage to put the kibosh on a full unearthing of the Abramoff/DeLay slime.
In particular, what IMO desperately needs to come out is the forced labor (slavery), forced prostitution, and forced abortions in the CNMI (Northern Marianas) vehemently supported by the GOP.
The slimiest of the slime has yet to be unveiled before a national audience, and it truly needs to be unveiled if the “least among us” are to be given any tiny semblance of justice.
And our guff can make a difference! Yahoo!
Well done.
We do operate at the speed of thought, but even so, any possibility to have MORE than TEN MINUTES notice next time?
Thank yew.
Jane on Olbermann and Gannon/Guckert gets fired. Good day. :)
It’s about time the good folks in media broke away from kos and interviewed others. Jane as we know was an excellent choice.
Who lost the Kobe bet? She didn’t mention him. *g*
Hugh – unfortunately. Thanks for showing us the votes.
Peterr – Glad you brought that up but look at the motley crew he stood with on that vote. Serious torture questions and a myriad of nasty affiliations in Alice’s history.
Here is a post by Jane from Jan ‘06
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..13243.html
All of a sudden, being a millionaire is a bad thing…
Meanwhile, Hong Tran was bitter in defeat, expressing hostility not only towards the state’s open primary system, but also towards Darcy Burner and Jim McDermott:
“Ned Lamont is like a trillionaire,” she said. “It’s only because he has money and he’s running against Lieberman, who everyone hates, that makes people like him. His history is not being a progressive.”
Tran says much of that critique is true of Darcy Burner, the Democrat running against Rep. Dave Reichert, and the darling of the Democrats this year.
“People have really been enamored of her. But she has no public service background. She’s another millionaire running. … Unfortunately a lot of voters think when someone has money it makes them legitimate.”

Want slime? – Elect Dems
Jane rocks
I’ll have to watch KO tonight for sure. I usually have to last to midnight bc I get home late, but I missed him last night and realized he’s become a habit. So tonight is must-see.
Here’s hoping this was just a firsty. I could do with less of a couple of regulars, but Keith does a great job with them and it confirms him as being open to playing with ideas.
I hope he does a follow up with someone like Glenn Greenwald on the “secret prisons for journalists” legislation that McNulty and DOJ are selling.
You are a force of nature MizJane.
windje @ 166
errr, not sure that’s exactly the message we want to put out there. Want slime? that would be elect Repubs.
We are the anti-slime.
Or sub-lime, in the case of Jane.
egregious @ 156
egregious, dear heart!
No one could ever confuse you with the morally compromised Alice Fisher. You are inspiring in many ways — your courage, your relentless fight for the “least of My brothers,” your honesty about what the battle is all about — your comments here have helped me on many an occasion when things have looked quite dark for me, too. Why, I should have thanked you long ago!

JANE AT C&L
egregious @ 168
Read her post – its an individualized response (and I thought the same thing you did after I saw it but have no ability to edit – bad browser)
Mrs. K8 I thank you.
You are the inspiration for us all.
Keep up the good work and the good words.
Jane, that’s so sexist of you to focus on a woman’s hair. As if women don’t have real brains and can’t be taken seriously for their minds.
I think this scandal deserves a thorough vetting on the Internet.
op99 –
Gannon/Guckert was working for the D.C. gay newspaper, The Washington Blade. They stupidly hired him, I suppose thinking that his sensationalist history may gain them new (tabloid-type) readers.
The paper got a new editor, and today one of his first acts was to fire Gannon/Guckert.
He said that it had nothing to do with politics. But that Guckert had lied, deceived, dissembled. And that having a known liar on staff was not something he could countenance.
Sounds like great promising days for The Washington Blade — they look to be wanting to recoup their credibility as genuine journalists.
egregious,
I certainly had no intention of mixing you up with the awful ‘ho, Alice Fisher. The comment was a follow-up to the earlier post.
YOU are the best! She, well . . . . Russ blew it big on this one.
George W. Bush is the president who lost Pakistan.
RevDeb @ 155
Coming from a Rev . . . that says a lot. And as a Rev with roots in Missouri, let me say that you’re definitely not alone.
One thing gives me hope, however. Suppose there’s a President Feingold making some nominations someday. Gonna be mighty hard for the Republican opposition to use his own record on confirmations against him to defeat his nominees. . .
RevDeb @ 156
I gave Russ (progressive Patriots) money today and will again on Sat.
If checks and balances are set up for approval then this was arguably a candidate for Assistant AG who might deserve additional scrutiny if not rejection (my choice for Delay and torture advocates). Just disappointed on this vote and once again my Senators had extra emails to delete this morning. *g*
WOW JANE, I just watched the clip…You go girl!!!
I need some ‘alone’ time now…back in a minute…*wink
windje @ 166
Um….that one took me aback.
Then I realized what you meant.
It’s not really a fortuitous wording, however. You seem to mean “Want all GOP slime revealed? Elect Dems.” Right?
Maybe something like “Do you want to get to the bottom of government corruption? Elect Democrats.”
test
OK everyone,
Hop on over to C&L for Jane in all her glory!
It’s up!
Pachacutec @ 174
LMAO Oh, TRex!!
FInally getting a chance to get online and wondered if anyone saw Jane on Olbermann….duhhhhhh. Jane, you were so articulate, poised, and beautiful. You have certainly smashed any conceptions that bloggers are all geeks and freaks. Splendid job m’lady. I am so proud!!! Isn’t that funny? I guess it speaks to how wonderful this community is. To feel pride and joy for the mistress of the lake for getting her due props in the spotlight. I’m all vechelemt (sp?) xo :)
Notice the in the link: “Jane hams…” LOL

Papers show Bush allies’ inside access
WASHINGTON – Republican activists Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed landed more than 100 meetings inside the Bush White House, according to documents released Wednesday that provide the first official accounting of the access and influence the two presidential allies have enjoyed.
…
Earlier this month, the White House suggested to the judge in that lawsuit that such records need not be disclosed because the information was privileged and might reveal how Bush and his staff get private advice, according to court documents obtained by The Associated Press.
===
Just 100 meetings, how many times did they meet before they moved on to a sleep-over. Freakin perv’s.

Deval Patrick Ad: Show Healy and her senior citizens are “OVERHOUSED” comment/quote. Then show seniors being bused to nursing homes since their MA Prop Tax is 100 times that of their original motgage (yea, lowering the state tax 0.75% is really going to make up for the Prop tax hike).
Oh, and then to close “…and Kerry Healy owns five houses. Lets make sure she does not get the goveners house as well.”
Gotta take the goveners as well.
Pachacutec @ 173
Ignore him.
I just realized what your hair reminds me of: Rapunzel, with the golden hair.
Remember we can multi-task here, save the nation AND comment on hair and clothes for public appearances. It’s a full service blog.

That’s so cute, thanks for the spelling laugh.
Wow, Jane, just saw you on Tivo. Smart, sensible, hit every important point, a total natural. You and Markos Moulitsas are a terrific pair of spokespeople for us in the corporate media.
Compared to the stale, canned BS of Dana Milbank, or the witless lies of your average Republican professional liar, you were a breath of fresh air. Gotta think the pundits are going to go just as berserk as the Fred Hiatts and Deborah Howells have done. They’re dinosaurs munching the ferns as the meteor is streaking across the sky. They’re about to go extinct, and give way to the Rise of the Normal Folks.
Congratulations, and deepest admiration, old blogfriend.
Jane-
Just watched the clip on C&L, that’s a keeper alright! Great job! And since I suspect KO likes intelligent and articulate guests you will probably get an encore.

The wording would have been better as follows:
Want to unveil slime – Elect Dems
*ooabby @ 191
It was a test of my impulse control, which I failed, but then passed on my second try. ;)
op99 @ 191
My grandmother would roll in her grave to know that I didn’t know how to properly speak/spell in yiddish….unfortunately she wasn’t around to school me, so I have Linda Richmond and kauffee tawk… :)
Really great job, Jane. Keith was fun, and so were you. Perfect. Hope it brings you even broader readership. And more appearances!
Jane-
Very nice job. His last questions, and your responses at the end of the segement demonstrate the long haul nature of this phenomenon we call people power. I am old enough to remember the last time serious opposition to a war lead to a popular uprising. Some of those “leaders”, i.e. the faces on a fairly nascent television media exhibited more ego than sense. Apparently, that is not your nature.
Blog On!
jmba @ 184
You mean maybe “verklemmt”? Great word, in both Yiddish and German.
meta @ 198
That’s what I was thinking, Jane could be Keith’s go to person for all topics re blogs, like Turley is to the constitution, so Jane is to the tubes….
Nate @ 190
Hey Nate, I’ve been told I’m more like Israel Bissel: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Bissell
OT – emptywheel has a nice post up on the CYA nature of Bush’s latest push to legalize torture…
Seems the CIA guys won’t do Dick’s dirty work any more…
Al Rogers at Daily Kos has the video of Jane up:

windje @ 195
Well, still, not quite. It can still be misunderstood as “when Dems appear on the stage, slime will be unveiled.” Methinks it would still backfire in this form. But I know what you MEAN! We just need to be sure everyone knows.
Pach dear – blogger ethics panel clearly needed for Hamsher sexist remark … !
too perfect Pach for words!
and Jane – S says the hair was perfect!
oh …Op99 – this press sec had nothing to do with it but it sure made me smile!
Eureka Springs, AR @ 195
Not to be contrary Eureka but the Lou I know might take umbridge at you changing him to a her.
Aunt Jane got a standing ovation at the Farr Mansion. One slight misunderstanding. Russell thought the man from Newsweek was Aunt Jane and than he fell asleep before you got on the air. We have a tape for him but I’m afraid the Wiggles will win out on his viewing schedule. At 3 1/2 he still is developing his understanding of politics.
We’re proud of you.
UNBELIEVABLE! More shenanigans in the House. Seems like the Republicans have REVOTED on the Bush Torture Bill and narrowly passed it having waited until two Dems were out of the room. Goodbye democracy, it was nice while it lasted.

Thanks for the link! Emptywheel’s the best.
Speaking of which, has there ever been a snail mail address (p.o. Box, maybe?) established to donate money to Marcy?
I remember I wasn’t the only person asking for one, but I couldn’t get back here over the last several days (and don’t have time to read the many threads I missed), and don’t know if there was a resolution to this.
Hello Loren! Hope you and your family are well.
ccmask @ 210
THIS IS SO DISGUSTING!!
Nicely done, Jane.
CCmask-thanks for the link to sore loser, Tran. While Maria certainly leaves lots to be desired, Tran really shows her true colors with that quote. To publicly chastise McDermott…what was she thinking?
orangejumpsuit @ 213
There is no language called ‘jewish” there is yiddish and there is also hebrew…., but no jewish.

Nice hair, nice antidote to the helemt hair so popular on the bobbing head dolls that populate Tv land.
Nate @ 208
THX Nate and no offense taken Eureka Springs, AR. I thought my moniker and homepage took care of any doubt.
OldCoastie @ 203
That makes sense – one of the recent reports included a quote from ex-CIA counsel, assistant counsel (?Smith?) which was to the effect that many in the CIA will be pleased with the transfer to GITMO and not having to be jailers.
OTOH -from the wider reports, it doesn’t sound like 14 transfers cover all the bases. There are also references to some having been transferred to GITMO earlier as well and I wonder if that is why there was such a fight over releasing names – they wanted to be able to bury when people who were formerly blacksited arrived to be able to discredit stories of transfer??
Not that I’ve become completely distrusting of the bizarre legalisms (it will breach privacy to release the names????) this Admin invents. *sigh*
From above:
February 1, 2009 – The WH has issued a statement that it can neither confirm nor deny that after the swearing in ceremony, GWB had President Feingold surreptitiously disappeared. Noting that the identity of the leader of the most powerful country in the world is a matter of overweaning national security, the Secret President will be
decideringkept behind a screen for all public non-appearances.The term of the Secret Presidency has also been declared classified and will continue until declassification.
In other news, Tucker Carlson has completed the trifect of being first to be voted off Dancing for the Stars, American Idol, and the Island. The Secret President will be awarding secret medal from behind the screen at a secret place and secret time to be determined secretly. Or not. Because it’s a secret.
Nate @ 209
ok- Jane who must be Revered. Leader Kos may have serious problems with this.
I think the connection Hamsher and Smith have made recently with former President Clinton could be very well helpful.
Mary,
I too have been wondering why there has been this overall agreement that the 14 Gitmo newcomers are the only ’secret prisoners’.
I mean, it’s not like we haven’t been lied to up to now.
Allee Allee in come free.
orangejumpsuit –
When I googled a bit to see how the Yiddish version varied from the German, I found a number of websites with all sorts of variations, including what looks like a listserve debating standardization of Yiddish spellings.
Versions I came across –
verklempt
verklemt
verklemmt
I went with the latter one, since I know its use not only from Yiddish, but from use by German young people, who use it just like the Yiddish meaning — “all up-tight emotionally.” [”Klemmen” means to squeeze together, and “verklemmen” means to make too tight, to restrain or inhibit.]
It’s a cool word, and much like many, many words in Yiddish, it almost needs a complete sentence to translate into English. Yiddish is very economical with highly nuanced descriptions of attitudes. I miss the time when I lived in Philly and could listen to the weekly Yiddish radio program locally broadcast.
There is a new thread, but I don’t know how to link it…

ccmask – that made me pull my hair out (and how did the Dems get so duped?). It was so nice to read earlier that it was NOT going to get passed out of committee. *sigh*
Mack – EPU’d but if you see this, Christian Scientist Monitor piece from last week exploring a lot of foreign sources and how we probably do have people still under wraps.
oops, posted 234 for lotus on the wrong thread. I can’t do anything right.
Yet another progressive linking to Amazon, a company owned by a Republican who donates heavily to Republican causes, as well as engages in questionable business practices.
Doh!
You could link to actually progressive companies like Powell’s Books and be supporting a union shop and a Democratic Party supporter at the same time.
Thanks.

I’d be happy to never see the “Noron” sub for him again!!
I have you on my screen so I can one click your blog. First I have seen of you. You are Cool !
We need to put faces to these blogs. The meeting with President Clinton was well covered but other than a few photo opts, everyone was shown in a group shot and hardly reconizable.
Keep up the good work and I will be checking in periodically.
regards: Peter in Oregon–Home of the mailin ballot.
Congrats, Jane… just saw the C&L clip. You’re a great ambassador — articulate, intelligent, reasonable. The very opposite of the shrill spitting harpy that The Old School would have us believe populates the blogosphere.
Alternet has the whole interview here:
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/41937/
Jane: You were beautiful, poised, and intelligent — awesome!
I have to disagree about the hair. I think you should keep it back out of your face for on-air appearances. It would make you look a bit more professional and less SF Lefty. This isn’t sexist, it’s strategic. I happen to love SF Lefties, but then again you don’t need to preach to the converted…
