They generally have the best voter lists and know which precincts and voters need to be targeted. They work closely with the local candidates and know the terrain much, much better than other orgs. In 2004, there were sometimes 5 people going to the same house within a few days (MoveOn, ACORN, Sierra Club, Dems, etc). This is a big waste of time and turns off voters. County parties–generally–are the best organized. (Disclaimer: I’ve been active with my county Party for several years.
